‘Let’s eat Grandma’ OR ‘Let’s eat, Grandma’? This fun yet informative book offers bite-sized tips and advice on everything you need to know about grammar – including common misspellings, how to use punctuation correctly, applying the right tense – and will turn you from a logophobe to a grammarphile in no time!
If you're a fan of Lynne Truss's Eats, Shoots & Leaves: The Zero Tolerance Approach to Punctuation, you'll love this little gem from Joanne Adams. It's a small book packed with tips for the modern writer. While the author is clearly British, the sample sentences still make their points to the American reader. Recommended for grammar nerds and everyday people alike.
This is a clever and somewhat fun grammar book, although it certainly isn't a reference book (& doesn't really present itself as such). Its primary value is as an occasional source of shortcuts or ways of remembering and understanding the rules of grammar and English usage. For American readers, there's also the fact that it is based on British English, so the differences with American English should be kept in mind.
I got this as (what I am faithfully ensured was) a “Joke Present.” Yes okay, that maybe or may not be so, but actually this was very entertaining & it never hurts to brush up on grammar skills!
I’ve definitely fallen into some terrible habits; rest assured these will now be amended.
My only criticism is that there were a few points missed which I think would be beneficial to those who really need this book.
As a reader and an English Language student, I am currently very conscious of my grammar as I am writing this review, but I would like to say I genuinely feel that my grammar has improved!
Grammar: Know Your Shit or Know You're Shit is an entertaining guide to grammar rules - from word classes to punctuation to tricky spellings - in a non-snobbish way.
Thank you Joanne Adams for your engaging and enlightening guide to grammar!
A great little refresher guide. It’s not as complete as the Oxford guide, for example, but it’s packed with lots of tips for most common issues. Read it!
