Vengeance: A Sting In Every Tale

Rate this book
A Wrimo India Anthology

A reply to a perceived injustice can take many forms one of which is vengeance. An eye for an eye can only end up making the whole world blind, is what Mahatma Gandhi once said. And it seems to be coming quite true, if latest events world-wide are an indication.
Is there any hope or are we hurtling towards extinction.

Hopefully, the stories will explore some of these questions.

But that is on the macro level. It might be easy to look at things objectively, in black and white, when it is other nations involved. Or even other people. We are able to be more forgiving of transgressions when they don’t involve us personally.

But how would one react if they found themselves in the maelstrom of situations that do fall somewhere in the grey area of life. With no definite black and white answers?

How would a jilted lover react in face of infidelity? Or how would a friend avenge the murder of her best friend? Or, is it fair to be punished for a crime that you were not brave enough to prevent?
These and many more questions connected to vengeance have been grappled with in this anthology by writers who are first and foremost Wrimos homed in to Asia::India region. Most of them are also published writers of short fiction and novels.

We hope you enjoy reading these stories.

Of course, the fuel for a writer is the feedback they get from the reader.
Do post your review on Amazon if you loved the book. We’d appreciate it.

When reviewing your own work- be it anything - there's always the chance of an element of bias at work, but I'll try to give an honest review here.

The idea for an anthology involving the writers of Wrimo India came to me in December 2014, just after the conclusion of NaNoWrimo. After pitching it to the admins, the idea got a go ahead and over the next couple of weeks, the theme was decided. As fate would have it, the theme of 'Vengeance' suggested by yours truly was selected, and soon the show was on the road and submission for stories was opened. Over the course of the next month-month and a half, they were collected and curated, and those of us on the editing committee reviewed and passed it on to the core peeps who would have the final call on the stories. After another round of editing- to give the authors the chance to further polish their stories - the book slowly but surely came into being.
Finally, one year after its conception, the book was in my hands, and I devoured it eagerly. Some of the stories are quite good, some others are a bit hit-and-miss, while again some others are the kinds which will move the reader to emotion.
With stories from a variety of genres travelling under the theme of Vengeance, the anthology has a representation from all circles. Released at Mumbai's newest (at the time of writing) Litfest called Lituventure, the anthology is a solid read, and gets a solid 3/5, and is a strong entrant into the world of anthologies - which are usually not prone to doing well.

Watch out for some of these authors, they're sure to be be pioneers among the changing scene of Indian literature today.

Vengeance is a compilation of Short stories (Fiction) which gives us a glimpse on different shades of revenge. Most of the stories are a slice from life and you get The genres covered are Romance, Suspense, Realistic fiction, Science fiction, Myth/Magical realism, Folklore, Drama, Teen Fiction, and War Fiction. It covers important issues like Female empowerment, bullying, rebellion.

The stories I enjoyed reading were: The murder of a dying man, Music of Death, Shadows of the Past, Alheims , Damned for Eternity and The Shattered Melody.

The cover page is what got people interested in what I was reading during my commute. A great read overall. Once bitten by Vengeance you can’t keep it down.

While it's amusing how we have all come to relate vengeance to be a woman's thing now, it's rather shocking to see the perseverance and extent of such brutality, be it traumatising or physical, that a person can be capable of. A Sting in the Tale promises no mercy and delivers none. It is a knife in the heart of the deserving ones, and a place in the minds of everyone who can remember.

I have read lots of anthologies and I must say one which is bound by a theme works the best. It is amazing to see the plethora of ideas which have emerged under the chosen theme in this collection.

Its difficult to give an unbiased review when you are one of the authors and love the writing style of most of your co-authors.

'Vengeance: A sting in every tale' is definitely a book to savour by all the readers who love crime and its just end. One of the best collections I have ever read.

A brilliant collection of tales of a very high standard that kept me wondering what was going to happen next. Altough I enjoyed them all my favourites were the ones by Shail Raghuvanshi, Ruchi Singh and Sonia Rao. Definitely a very thrilling and enjoyable book.
