4 - "I will keep you safe. Depend on it." Stars.
Pushing the Limit is the third installment in Emmy Curtis' Alpha Ops series. Each book is very much it's own story, but the characters have been pulled through. We were given a very brief introduction to Matt and Henrietta (Harry) in book 2 Over the Line, but this story although in essence begins whilst that book takes place, it is still wholly Matt and Harry's.
"My friends call me Harry." ...
"What can I can you?" ...
"Henrietta."
This couple literally hit the ground running in this story, and the sexy/dirty short length of time they both spent together at a mutual friends wedding seems to be something neither can forget, but has little or no chance of ever happening again. That is unless you happen to be working at a site-survey in Iraq, that turns up a small piece of metal, that may-or-may-not have belonged to a missing USAF plane.
Turns out it is a small world after all!

If you have read previous books in this series you will know that Emmy manages to pack a fair amount of punch into her stories. Yes they are sexy-hot, but you are also given a little intrigue, some action, and most importantly characters that you want to read about.
"Do you want to... come up and see my apple?"
I loved Matt, buy I do love my guys that are battling a few demons. Harry was likeable in her ballsy, take-no-shit way as well, but there were a couple of points when I wanted to slap her and say step back woman he is trying to keep you safe. For all that though, if she had done that the story probably would have ended a lot sooner!
She was electricity to him. Powerful and necessary and dangerous.
I liked the twist in this one too, I didn't see it coming and that in itself earns the author a huge round of applause from me. As does the fact that she took a totally inhospitable environment and turned it into an arena for adventure, romance and intrigue to run riot.
If they did have a tomorrow, he was going to get her, and keep her, come hell or high water.
I have really enjoyed this series, and I hope this book isn't the last installment, Emmy Curtis has a real talent, and her imagination as well as the quality of her writing is absolutely something I want too see more of.

This is the third book in the Alpha Ops series and Emmy Curtis has given us an exciting and fast paced story blending an unfolding love story, a years-old mystery and a dangerous military conspiracy all set against a harsh background in post-war Iraq.
Harry (Henrietta) and Matt had a ‘moment’ in the last book of the series, and the start of this book shows us just how intense and steamy that moment was. Wow! 3 months later and they haven’t seen each other since that night, but neither of them have forgotten the connection that they shared on their first meeting.
Harry is an Archaeologist and has been sent to Iraq on a dig. She lost her soldier husband to the war in the country 7 years previously, but she has grown to love it, and has just discovered an unusual find on her dig – a shard of metal that may or may not have come from an American Air Force plane, even though there is no record of a plane going down in that area.
When a specialist from the military is called in to investigate with her, it is none other than Matt, and it is clear from the beginning that their attraction is still raging. They soon cave in to the chemistry between them, only for Matt to discover that Harry’s late husband was a part of his unit and his best friend who was killed in front of him.
It’s a difficult situation for sure, but it doesn’t dissolve into unnecessary angst or stupid behaviour. They are both in Iraq to do a job, and while the relationship drama does form an important part of the story, it’s the mystery that they are both there to investigate that forms the core of the book, especially when they discover that their lives, and the lives of Harry’s crew, are in danger.
Harry is strong, brave and honest, and I really like her. She wants Matt and she goes for it, but she also struggles to come to terms with moving on for real, and not just having a fling. I could understand what she was feeling, and I thought her part of the story was dealt with really well. She didn’t get whiny or stupid, and doesn’t hold back from telling Matt how she really feels, and I loved that about her.
I loved Matt! He’s a badass, of course, but he is still struggling to come to terms with Danny’s death, so he initially refuses to entertain the idea of anything happening between him and his best friend’s wife. But he can’t deny the fact that he is falling for her, and I loved watching his slow realisation of exactly what she means to him.
The romantic storyline plays out nicely alongside their investigation, and I thought the whole story was put together really well. I really liked the mystery part of the storyline - there are twists and turns, double crosses and deadly danger as they work to uncover the conspiracy. The military aspect of it was handled really well, and I liked the fact that we get a bit of ‘the other side’ of the story. There is excitement and some great surprises, and I really liked the way the whole story played out.
I really enjoyed this book. Written in dual POV, it’s fast moving and the mystery element is interesting and exciting and kept me guessing right until the end. And, of course, the love story is really sweet with a nice amount of sexy time and lots of heart.
I’m not sure if there will be more books to this series, but I’m definitely keen for more.

I'm not sure but I think this may have been my favorite. Which is kind of unusual for me because I tend to prefer a little lovin/sexytines between the MCs. The STORY in this one was sooooo good and the combination of romance and suspense was perfect. I think it was because the mystery subplot was so interesting and it helped that I just realllllly liked Matt. Matt. Matt. MMMMMmmmmatt.
Harry=Henrietta, who we met in the previous book was kind of a mystery to me. In Over The Line, she seems kind of insecure and a ninny at times. ( I think it was the circumstances of that book, more than her being actual ninny. ) Which, really couldn't be further from the truth. She's freaking archaeologist in the freaking desert...she's really kind of badass in her own way. When she and Matt meet initially, she is not afraid to take what she needs from him and when they run across each other again, she does not back down then either. So, she was pretty awesome. She was dealing with some pretty serious baggage in her own life and I found it very interesting how her and Matt's lives intersected with each other. Matt and Harry had absolutely crack-a-lackin' chemistry and I'm telling you, do not miss this one!
This was such a fun book to read! I found myself sighing, laughing and turning the pages as fast as I could! Sadly, I do not have another Emmy Curtis book to look forward to but we meet some characters in this one, a guy and girl that I would absolutely LOVE to read about again. So, my fingers are crossed for more from this series and this author.

The third offering in the Alpha Ops series, Pushing the Limit is Matt and Harry's story. Although easily a standalone, if you read Over the Line, this explains what went down (ahem) at the wedding between them and continues their story.
If you're looking for a book that oozes romance, this isn't it (that said, chapter one was one of the hottest openers I have read in a while). It's more than that and gritty action and suspense form a huge part of the story. Set in post-war Iraq, when archaeologist Harry discovers a piece of metal that appears to be from a military aircraft, Matt is sent to confirm her find. And discoveries from the dig aren't all that are made, because our couple have chemistry.
Pushing the Limit brought the action and location setting I felt was missing in Over the Line, and whilst I felt there was a bit of a lull in the middle, one the whole it was a great read. With surprises I never anticipated, I've been left wanting more from this series. Emmy Curtis is a skilled writer - she creates likeable characters with a journey that draws you in, holds emotion, humour and when we are given some between-the-sheets action it's worth the wait.

My Review:
Wow...how about Indiana Jones meets Military Romantic Suspense? This book was fun just in that it was such a different side to both Iraq and some different aspects of the military that you usually don't get to see in romantic fiction.
Harry is an archeologist. She's been hired to check out a site in Iraq for a well-reputed, well-funded company with her two students. It's a surprise when she arrives and realizes that they aren't the only team that's been hired by this company...and that's just the first of a long string of oddities, coincidences, and curiosities that occur to Harry and her team in this book. When Harry finds a piece of charred metal with some distinctive numbers on it in the sand, then the military and Matt get involved.
Matt works in the branch of the government who finds and claims military service members remains. Seven years ago, he was EOD and watched his best friend get blown up. To say that he's suffering from PTSD is putting it very mildly. Matt needs to get some mental care because he still has issues with crowds and various other things. Coming back to Iraq and finding Harry, his best friend's widow there, are certainly not helping esp. since he slept with her before he realized who she was.
This is an action-packed read. There are a lot of different characters in it and trying to figure out how they all fit into what is happening here is a HUGE puzzle. Emmy Curtis did a great job at creating the layers of suspense. I never knew who the bad guy was and guessed wrong many, many times before it was all revealed. And then when it all came out, I was gasping, because 'duh, I should have seen that'...but I didn't and that makes the suspense story line fabulous.
I also really loved Harry and Matt together. Their combined tie to Danny was horribly tragic and it makes their relationship seemingly impossible as they are both still grieving for Danny, but wow, I loved them together. They really work and the chemistry is amazing.
It's also really nice to see a more real-side to everyday life in Iraq. So much of our western viewpoint is through the TV lens of the war. Harry is in a small village where everyone is welcoming and friendly. It was nice to see that and to see her relationship with Ain and Mueen and eventually even the Sheik and how he influences his area of control.
I've said it before and I'll definitely say it again. Emmy Curtis is definitely a rising star in the romantic/military suspense genre. This book had a totally different feel from the first two, but I still enjoyed it. It will be interesting to see where she takes the series from here.

Harry and Matt meet at a friend's wedding and have the best almost sex of their lives. Then never see each other again. Harry is an archaeologist and Matt is in the military and works for JPAC(they find and locate troop's bodies and bring them home). Matt used to be EOD(Explosive Ordinance Disposal)but after what happened to his best friend Danny he transferred to JPAC. When Harry finds a military plane part at one of her digs and Matt comes to investigate. They are throw together again. When all the secrets are revealed will Matt and Harry has a chance to find out if they have just a sexual attraction or could it be something more?
Matt is really messed up after watching his best friend get blown into pieces in front of him 7 years ago. I can't begin to imagine having to watch your best friend die in front of you. It is very understandable that Matt is still really messed up. I loved Matt. He has a lot of scars but he is brave,caring,and trustworthy. But he doesn't trust easily but I wouldn't either after what he saw at war. Harry is a great heroine. I loved how she never let anyone boss her around and how independent she is. After the death of her husband Harry never wants to risk her heart again and I can understand that.
I liked how Harry had a friendship with some of the local Iraq people. All the little details the author put in this book made it so real. The prayer mats facing Mecca,how Matt's training made him more suspicious of everyone,the parts of the houses only women could enter,and other small things that made the story come to life in a different country. I also enjoyed all the military jargon. I am a huge fan of the TV Shows NCIS,JAG,NCIS:LA,and NCIS:New Orleans so I knew what most of it meant without explanation but she does tell you what all the jargon means for people who don't know much about the military.
One of my favorite moments is when Harry first realized she had feelings for Matt. I really loved Harry's c0-worker Molly. She was a doll and I loved her advise about men. This book was really exciting and I loved the mystery and suspense. I was shocked and surprised at a few of the twists. One had me yelling OMG. Most of the book I didn't know who to trust. This book really does have it all passion,action,adventure,romance,exotic location, murder,a sexy hero,and a feisty independent heroine. Harry and Matt's story is easy to get sucked into and I didn't want to put this book down. Emmy Curtis is an author to watch.

Over the Line by Emmy Curtis ~ my review of the 1st book in the series.
In Pushing the Limits, Henrietta (Harry) who we meet in the first book, is sent to Iraq on a dig. There, she finds what appears to be a piece of an aircraft. A man is sent to investigate and it just happens to be the same man she met at the wedding (in the first book) whom she had a passing erotic encounter with that night. Matt is thrilled to have found Harry again, until he finds out she's the widow of his fallen best friend.
Together they are trying to figure out the mystery of what went down and who all the people are that are also looking in the same area. Danger looms, as does their desire for each other.
This book was very different than the first. The first book was all about the sex and romance with a little bit of action thrown in. This one a little more action, a lot more questions and a lot less sex and romance. I liked Harry and Matt but the others were marginally unlikable in certain ways. The storyline was OK. While I had to laugh at Harry's stating that The Mummy movie helped her decide to become an archeologist (that's my favorite movie) that kind of stuff doesn't really appeal to me so I found some of the talk about the actual dig and what they were doing to be boring, but all the action was fantastic. I also thought I had the "bad guy" figured out from the start and I was pleasantly surprised to be mainly wrong. Yay for not making it obvious!!
Overall this book was a fairly action packed romantic suspense, light on the romance a bit more on the action. It has good characters, a good story and it keeps your attention to the end. I suggest this series for any fans of romantic suspense, particularly with a military aspect to it.

A 4 1/2 Star read - another great part to the series
Seven years ago Harry's husband was killed in Iraq. Today she is a respected archeologist on a dig in Iraq and finds what she thinks is a piece of a military plane; not knowing what to do she calls a friend. That call brings Matt to the site. Soon they will realize they have more connection than a few stolen moments at a friend's wedding.
I will be honest, Harry was not my favorite person in the last book in this series. I was unsure if I could enjoy a book with her as the heroine, well Emmy Curtis wrote her so wonderfully that she stole my heart. Harry does not see how broken she is until she sees herself through Matt's eyes. And what wonderful eyes does Matt have! He is stubborn, he is hunky, he is gentle and he is caring, and he is everything that Harry needs. I really enjoyed the two of them together and hope I get to see more of them in the future.
The plot has twists and turns and kept me guessing at times. What I like best is that I have never read a plot quite like this, it was fresh and new but still dealt with traditional romantic suspense elements. I am being purposely vague because I want you to go "Wow" just like I did.
There are a group of men who are tied to Harry's past that are introduced at the end of the book that I would love to learn more about and see in future books. Notice I used plural - I want many more books in this series. Emmy Curtis has quickly turned into an auto read author for me.

This is the 3rd book in the series, and it is for adults only due to the steamy scenes. This is another full length novel.
This is Stanning and Harry’s story. You are introduced to them in book 2. While I don’t think it is mandatory to read them in order, I think you will enjoy it that much more if you do. Both Matt and Harry have issues that they need to deal with as well as all the trouble brewing around them. So much going on that you won’t want to put it down.
I’m not one for realistic fiction, but Emmy does a fantastic job keeping you gripped into the story and making my memories of the Air Force come back to life. I never had the pleasure to meet anyone from EOD, but all airmen rock whether men or women! I have come to love this series! Emmy makes the adventure and world come alive, and you won’t want to put the story down. I have already went out and bought the next 3 books in the series to read!
I highly recommend this series to all the military romance fans out there especially if you hold the Air Force in your heart! I love this series!

I find that I enjoy the action and mystery in Romantic Suspense more and more. There is more to the story than the romance and that, somehow, makes it more real. The mystery of what's happening has me looking for clues. I enjoy that. I trust no one. And I really enjoy how the danger brings the couple together in ways they never would have without it.
This book has all of that and more. I loved the characters. I loved the premise. I loved not knowing what was happening. I loved the story.
I did want to smack Harry a few times. She's a little reckless and has her heart encased in protective armor. I get why she is that way, it just frustrated me some. And that is a good thing. Because that means she was real to me. I adored Matt. Functioning military but with nightmares that have not resolved themselves over time. He needs to get his head together and he's resisted that for seven long years. But his heart may be what finally gets him to do that.
If you enjoy a good romantic suspense that will keep you guessing about who to trust along with some pretty high heat, then this one needs to go on your list.

Henrietta (Harry) hadn't seen Matt since their fling at a friend's wedding three months ago. When she runs into him in Iraq, she is thrilled to have a second chance to explore their chemistry. What neither of them anticipated was learning that Harry is Matt's best friend's widow. He feels as if he betrayed his best friend and is determined to quickly finish his job in Iraq so that he isn't tempted by Harry. Matt has the difficult job of keeping Harry safe from harm while keeping his heart safe from her. Pushing the Limit is full of suspense and unexpected twists.
Even though this is the third book in the series, Pushing the Limit can be read as a standalone. I look forward to catching up on all of the other books in the Alpha Ops series.

This is the first book I've read in this series. Early on we get a steamy scene between Matt and Henrietta (Harry) in which they don't have any expectations of ever seeing the other again. Three months later their paths cross again when Harry uncovers a piece from an airplane and Matt's sent to investigate. There are plenty of potential bad guys, lots of suspense, and plenty of chemistry between Harry and Matt.

Full disclosure. I know the author. First time reading one of Emmys books. Loved reading it. Tread with caution..it's very steamy! But done in a tasteful way and from a female perspective. So not paperback porn for guys but guys will love it still. Had a good plot line and overall a fun read. Very proud of my friend!

Good plot with some very nice twists, good romance, excellent smut. The hero likes women and respect them, what else is there to say?
Emmy Curtis is really shining for me, even tho some things that come with the genre can annoy me a little, but that's not the author's fault. Overall a very solid book. It's super refreshing to read a story about a soldier that doesn't preach anything.

Excellent writing; so glad to be reading this author. Great story, plot, fast-paced, realistic characters, tension, true romance. An old mystery and a military conspiracy all set in post-war Iraq.

Henrietta is attending her best friend's wedding but she would rather be somewhere else. She's not one for happily ever afters--especially since she lost her soul mate years ago to the war. Thankfully, a handsome stranger joins her table and things get interesting fast.
And interesting they get, indeed!
Matt doesn't do relationships but he does have an immediate urge to do the beautiful stranger sitting next to him. Her witty comebacks and innocent good looks draw him in like no woman before and when she appears willing to go further with him, he can't help but be up for the challenge.
What's the harm in a hook-up with a stranger you most likely won't ever see again? Well, for these two their encounter soon becomes an issue--especially when Matt finds out Henrietta's true identity.
I met Henrietta and Matt briefly in Over the Line , the previous installment in the series, when they were attending the same wedding Beth and James were guests in. Henrietta was linked to James since they shared a past and Matt was a friend of the groom. They were referenced briefly in that story which led me to be curious about them.
In this installment we soon find out where Henry and Matt escaped too and just what they were up to during the wedding. Their encounter was brief, but passionate and set the tone for the rest of the story.
I enjoyed the conflicted emotions that arose in Matt once he found out who Henrietta was and how deeply affected he seemed to be by the situation. I admired Matt's caring and loyal side even as I tried to smother my urge to throttle him for being a fool and not allowing himself the chance to explore his attraction to Henrietta to the fullest.
But thankfully, Henrietta had a back bone. She accepted and understood Matt's reasons for his hesitation but didn't back down when she realized there could be something more between them.
What I like most about this series is that the author does a great job of mixing the suspense with the romance without taking away from either of the elements and without overwhelming the reader with useless details. Emmy Curtis goes right to the heart of the matter setting up the plot and conflict while allowing the connection between Henry and Matt to settle and grow.
Once again, the author did a wonderful job in captivating my attention in regards to the plot and making me melt during the sex scenes. The conflict was easy to follow but riveting nonetheless with key players that added the twist and turns necessary to keep me guessing as to what the hell was truly going on.
The were some emotions from both characters thrown into the mix the served to help the reader relate to the character's situation and state of mind. These ranged from the most subtle to the most intense, allowing the reader to truly understand how deeply connected these two characters had become. I enjoyed their banter, their flirtatious dialogue and their honest confessions. All their interactions led them to establish and grow the initial connection they shared when they met at the weeding.
Keep in mind that although this is the third book in the series it can certainly be read as a stand alone. Although the author references the wedding that took place in Over the Line, the story centers solely on the events and actions that affect Matt and Henry after they met at the wedding.
All in all, a fantastic intriguing read and a great addition to the series!

Henrietta “Harry” Markowitz lost her husband seven years ago, and although not emotionally, she’s moved on in every other way. Danny was the love of her life, she knows she’ll never love again, but that doesn’t make her dead or incapable of feeling sexual attraction. Senior Master Sergeant Matt Stanning has left his former occupation of finding and getting rid of explosive devices behind after losing his best friend to one of them in the Iraqi desert. Now he’s tasked with retrieving fellow soldiers that were taken prisoner or killed in action and reuniting them with their families. But the death of his best friend still haunts him, and the only way to forget is in the arms of a willing female or with a bottle of JD (or maybe both).
But there is one woman who’s remained in his memory for the past three months. Henrietta who let him touch her and touched him in return only to disappear from his life.
Now she’s back, or he’s back in her life, due to her archaeological discovery in the Iraqi desert, and neither Harry nor Matt find anything wrong with resuming their fling...Until Matt discovers Harry is his dead best friend’s wife. Which is quickly pushed to the side, since someone is determined to do whatever it takes to get their hands on whatever Harry found in the desert.
While Dangerous Territory was great, and Over the Line not so much, but it still had its moments, this third installment in this series lacked even those moments.
I disliked themerry widow heroine with her emotional cripple-ness and blindness to what was really going on in her head and in her heart. Not to mention her almost TSTL tendency of refusing to budge as the hero was trying to keep her safe from whatever was coming. I was rather ambivalent toward the hero, empathizing on one side, disliking him on the other. His issues could’ve been solved by talking to someone (as his friend did), and refusing to solve anything brought him to where he was, in love with his best friend’s wife, and guilty about it.
The romance was non-existent, where I’m concerned. Pushing the Limit starts with a sensual, passionate encounter between two people that have no idea that they both share stories about a man that died too early but soon that truth will come out.
Henrietta “Harry” Markowitz is a great woman that has learned how to live with her husband’s death. It has been seven years since he passed away and she knows that life goes on. She is a brilliant archaeologist and in this story she finds something that spikes her curiosity. She ends up emailing her friend and lets her know what she has found but she had no idea that they would have send someone so quickly but not only that the man that she can’t stop thinking about is the person there to figure out what exactly she found.
Air Force Sergeant Matt Stanning got out of the EOD (Explosive Ordinance Disposal) and is now working as a JPAC. He was a military man that went through so much and was at least know returning military people back to their loved ones whether they were alive or dead. He still had not been able to get over the death of his best friend but the worst part was how he died. When he attended a friends wedding he never would have thought that he would end up having a passionate night out in the gardens with a beautiful woman. When he ends up going to Iraq because someone found out something interesting and he needed to know what it was. But he ends up seeing a woman that he has been thinking about and things go get hot and steamy between them. It was only the morning after when Matt says something horrible to Harry that things deflate between them.
Matt apologizes to Harry for his behavior and what he said to her and things are okay between them but no matter what they both have a job to do. Matt needs to investigate the item that Harry and her crew found but things get out of control. Harry has a person in her crew that is there to protect them and Matt has his one contact and they are going to need them. The more time that Matt and Harry spend together the more intense their relationship becomes. Matt ends up struggling with his feelings towards Harry but the passion that he feels for her is so strong. He knows that he is falling in love and he can’t let Harry go he needs to make peace with the death of his best friend. The investigation ends up turning to the worst when everyone’s lives are in danger. There are twists and turns, lots of mystery when I saw reading this story.

Matt and Henrietta (aka Harry) met at their friends’ wedding and had a little naked sexy time in the garden in the rain. Neither one has been able to foget about that short but wonderful time in their lives.
Harry is an archaeologist who is working for a private company in Iraq. Matt Stanning shows up after Harry puts in a call about a piece of metal she found that might possibly belong to a downed military plane. From the minute that Matt shows up he and Harry cllick once again. They end up sleeping together – finally! – but that all turns a little nuts when Matt realizes that Harry is the widow of his best friend who died seven years earlier. Matt is mortified that he’s betrayed his best friend but Harry doesn’t see the issue. Yes, she loved her husband so very much and feels that she’ll never let anyone into her heart again, but she sees no problem in sleeping with Matt as it won’t mean a relationship.
While the two are dealing with the “sleeping” arrangements their lives are in danger. There is someone out there who wants whatever is below the surface at Harry’s dig site and will stop at nothing to get it.
This was another great story in the Alpha Ops series. So far I’ve really enjoyed reading about the different characters that we met in the previous book. I think that both the suspense part of the story as well as the romance was well done and blended nicely with each other.
The dig site and what’s underneath the sand in Iraq is a major part of the story but it provides a nice catalyst for bringing our two MC’s together. Both Harry and Matt had dealt with Danny’s death in their own way. Matt felt incredibly responsible for Danny’s death even though Danny was a man who worked with explosives and nothing Matt could have done would have saved Danny’s life. Despite that Matt had deeply mourned his friend for the past seven years and hasn’t moved on.
Harry knew that Danny had been her one true love and that she’d never love anyone the way she’d loved her husband. Knowing that, she had allowed herself the rare sexual partner but had always held herself apart from any true connection. When she met Matt she thought that they could just sleep together and have some fun but she soon realized that Matt meant more to her than even she thought possible. Each of them had to come to terms with their feelings about each other and I really liked how Curtis took us on their individual journey’s in dealing with their grief and recovery. I did want to slap Matt a time or two near the end of the book because he was acting like an ass but other than that I loved reading about the romance between these two characters.
The other parts of the book that dealt with the suspense portion were incredibly interesting. I found myself completely absorbed with the story which is always a good thing.
Overall the book was well done and I can’t wait for the next installment in the series.

4.5 Wine Glasses
First off I have to give it to the Forever Yours art department. Because that cover? That cover! Do you see this man? Taunt, tan skin. Dark scruff. Chiseled jaw line. Those arms. Those abs! And the colors contrast well. I would read this book based on the cover alone. Now onto the story...
Archaeologist Henrietta “Harry” Markowitz and Air Force Sergeant Matt Stanning shared one sizzling night together at a friend's wedding (Over the Line) but never expected to see each other again. That hasn't stopped them from replaying that night over and over again in their heads though... When a special military team is called in to examine a possible military plane crash on one of Harry's dig sites, they are both stunned and thrilled to see each other again. But those feelings soon to turn dismay and guilt when Matt learns that Harry is the widowed wife of a friend who was killed in action. However, that's the least of their worries when they discover a possible military cover up and government conspiracy. Dodging danger, and the passion that ignites around them, Harry and Matt must piece together this mystery before whoever is behind it catches up to them and before their hearts cross the line of no return.
Action, intrigue, military heroes, a smart heroine, and a slow-burning but passionate romance is just some of what you'll find in Emmy Curtis' Pushing the Limit. The Alpha Ops is a series that has gotten better and better with each new release and I am absolutely loving it, and this new author. Each book makes for a well-rounded stand alone as well, with a contained story centering on the H/h. The writing is imaginative and descriptive with easily relatable characters and a well paced plot. There are also some emotional moments centered on the military aspect of the story that caused me to become teary eyed but made me empathize with the story that much more. The romance was slow to build because of some inner conflict but there was no denying the chemistry Matt and Harry shared nor the hotness when they did succumb to it.
All in all, Pushing the Limits was a superb military romance and Emmy Curtis' Alpha Ops is one of my favorite new series of the year! A recommended read for 2014!

Pushing the Limit is the third book in the Alpha Ops series. I think that this could be read as a stand alone novel, but reading the previous book Over the Line, will help you understand where the book opens up at.
The story opens with the main characters, Matt and Harry, meeting at the wedding. After flirting with each other at the reception, we are given one of the most hottest scenes between them. Things get pretty interesting in the gardens of the restaurant during a rain storm. They go their separate ways until three months later they are reunited. Harry is in Iraq on an assignment and come across what she thinks is part of a military aircraft. Being curious, she gets in contact with a friend in the Department of defense to pass on what she's discovered. She is soon notified that the Pentagon will be sending someone from JPAC to look at the site. Little does she know that that person is none other than Matt. His arrival brings all kinds of emotions for them both. Neither one of them have forgotten about each other. They soon finish what they started back in the garden, but a misunderstand leaves her hurt and confused afterwards. They both struggle to keep their feeling in check and keep a professional relationship. While investigating Harry's discovery, many strange things begin to happen. It becomes difficult to know who to trust when their lives become endangered. But at Harry insistence, they push forward for the truth.
The story started out with a bang but then as the story was building it was a little bit drawn out. Then the story got very suspenseful and exciting. There was twists and turns that you were not expecting. That keeps you wanting to read more and not put the book down.
I really liked this story. It kept me guessing and trying to figure out what was going on. There wasn't too much romance as the previous book, but when there was it was pretty hot. They suspense and action make up for it. I would definitely recommend this book, as well as the series.
I give this book a 4.5 out of 5 stars only because of the long necessary build up of the story. Other than that it is a pretty awesome book and look forward to reading more of this series!

This is another book in the “Alpha Ops” series by Emmy Curtis. This story picks up where the last one left off when “Harry” short for Henrietta is at her friend’s wedding and meets a guy named matt there is an attraction but because of the events of the day nothing ever really gets started. Present day she is an archaeologist working on a dig in Iraq, when they discover a piece of metal with numbers and she discovers that it was a military plane. She the site and around the area, e-mails her friend at the Department or Defense, Sadie. She can’t help but think of her husband and back when she lost him to the war in Iraq. Then she gets a message that someone from JAPC, who were in charge of finding the remains of U.S. military service members and bringing them back to their families. The man that sent is senior Air Force Master Sergeant Matt Stanning, and when he gets their she can’t believe it not expecting to see him but hoping she would somehow. The same was going on in his mind. Then when he finds out a little later that her deceased husband was his best friend he starts to act weird and can’t get his friend out of his mind. She is telling him that it has been 7 years and she must live her life that she cannot be locked up and afraid to go out in the world because that is not what he wanted for her. That if Matt still had problems he needed to work through them himself and not include her she already done her fixing. There is a lot going on in this story and once again this is a great read. For me this story was as good as her first book and I was able to read it in one day. There is love story, drama of who is really after the down plane, why now are there a private security team showing up that was not there before. Matt finding out from his commander that the plane was carrying something that all of these people want and the flight was off the books, no record. A very exciting and fast pace story and written in a way that is very believable while still showing another part of the military and the different jobs that need to be done. A fantastic read. I got this book from net galley.

Henrietta ( Harry ) is an archaeologist. She was hired by a company to basically see if there is anything at a site worth digging up. When she finds something of import to the military she makes a call to a friend. Little did she know the person to come and take a look at it would be her almost fling from months ago that she can't get out of her head. All Harry wants to do is finish her job and finish what they started before. Until she finds out A.) Matt was friends with someone who was close to her and B.) There is more to her job then she thought and that this visit to Iraq was not going to be as pleasant as her last one.
Matt was on his way home and was asked to go to Iraq to check out something that could be important that an archaeologist found. Even though he wasn't happy about returning to Iraq after the tragedy that happened last time he was there, he couldn't help but hope he would be able to reconnect with Harry. He reconnects to her alright and finds out that she is his best friends widow. That certainly puts a damper on what he would like to do with her. He also runs into an old team member and finds out that he walked into a shit storm and knows beyond a doubt that he must keep Harry safe.
My Opinion:
This is the third book in the Alpha Ops series. It is however the first that I have read. I was definitely impressed with what I read and I do look forward to going back and reading books 1 and 2. There was lots of danger and suspense. A lot of emotional upheaval that both Matt and Harry have to work through. A few intimate encounters. In which the first scene definitely had the most detail. This is a new author to me and I look forward to reading more of her work. Although it's the third book in a series it can be read as a stand alone. I definitely recommend reading.

Emmy Curtis just keeps getting better with her new Alpha Ops series and I especially LOVED her newest book, Pushing the Limit featuring Matt and Harry from book 1. Pushing the Limit picks up a few months after book one with both Harry and Matt thinking about one another and wondering what would have come of their passionate encounter if they had had the opportunity to take things all the way. Both characters have moved on with their respective lives until a chance encounter brings them back together where they must work learn to trust one another in an effort to survive.
Okay, I admit it, I am an Indiana Jones junkie and I love all things adventurous, especially archeology, so this book just really rocked my world. While Harry and Matt's interactions are a steady theme throughout the book, the true jewel lies in Curtis's use of action and adventure to really bring the story to life. Having Harry and Matt both confront their pasts in the very spot that Danny died was awe inspiring and really solidified the basis of their relationship to one another. I won't go into too many details because I don't wish to spoil anything for the readers but Curtis really does bring both characters full circle by allowing them to come to grips with how they have been living their individual lives.....or lack thereof......and figuring out a way to move forward.
I also enjoyed the secondary characters such as Molly, David, and Mueen. The Sheik was nothing like I would have expected, which really added to his overall role. Mueen has a surprising past that I hope we will one day get more insight to and oh boy am I looking forward to learning more about David.
If you love action and adventure along with a side of romance, pick up a copy of
