Very good book that starts out with a bang. When his sister's wedding to Gabriel Knight (Kansas City Cover-Up) is interrupted by gunfire, medical examiner Niall Watson finds himself in the middle of trying to find out why. After all of the stress of the day, he comes home to find an abandoned baby in his neighbor's apartment. Lucy suspects that the baby belongs to her former foster daughter, and that Diana is in trouble. She's grateful for Niall's help.

I loved Niall and Lucy. Niall is part of a cop family. Rather that becoming a street cop or a detective, Niall's talents sent him in another direction. He is a medical examiner, the quiet, loner part of the family, best known for his calm and logical mind. He's much more comfortable around dead bodies than live ones. I loved his considered approach to hearing the baby, his logical steps, and then determined action. I loved seeing him take the baby, and then how his mind walked him through what to do next. Lucy's arrival on the scene throws him into a bit of turmoil. He has taken quite a bit of notice of her, being a man, but is a bit awkward around people, so has had few conversations with her.

Lucy is a social worker who is worried about the former foster daughter she hasn't seen in more than a year. A recent call from Diana gave her the feeling that the young woman is in trouble. Finding Niall at her apartment is quite a surprise, as is the reason he is there. Lucy is determined to protect little Tommy, and happily accepts Niall's help. Though he doesn't know it, she has had quite a crush on him. Lucy also has an ex-boyfriend who has become a problem for her.

I loved the development of their relationship. Niall is very drawn to Lucy and frequently confused by the effect she has on him. I really loved seeing his thoughts as he tried to make sense of what he is feeling. I loved his protectiveness toward both Lucy and Tommy. It was sweet to see Niall taking care of the baby. Lucy's crush has been going on for quite a while, and spending time with him now just deepens her feelings for him. I loved the contrast between his nerdiness and her bubbly, outgoing nature. They balanced each other very nicely. I loved the way that she could read him so well. It was really fun to see her explain his feelings to him, especially at the end.

I enjoyed seeing the closeness of the Watson family and their support for each other. All of them are there to be with their grandfather, who was shot at the wedding. I loved seeing how each brother dealt with things according to their personality. I also enjoyed seeing the way that they pulled Lucy and Tommy into their circle. It was something completely out of her experience, and I loved seeing her soak it in.

The mystery of the baby and his missing mother was really good. Diana is missing and someone is trying to get to the baby. I loved seeing Niall's methodical ways bump into Lucy's emotional defense of Diana. Things got rather intense when someone attacked Lucy in an attempt to get to the baby, while someone else is telling her to keep him away from everyone. A dead body adds to the puzzle. The final confrontation is a nail-biter, as Lucy and Niall try to protect Tommy and save Diana.

There is also a little bit about who the shooter was at the wedding. Someone appears to have a grudge against the Watsons and the attack at the wedding seems to be just the beginning. I am looking forward to the next book and seeing what else is revealed.

I just did not like Niall. His dad and brothers continually had to chide him for being too harsh. #Yikes
I also wasn't sure if JM was trying to write him possibly on the spectrum when his lack of empathy and emotions were talked about. If so it wasn't done well, it make him seem like a jerk a lot of the time. But then other times he has no problem with feeling and displaying emotions and at first it talks about him just being shy. He was a really hard character to read and connect to. I felt like the heroine, Lucy, deserved someone more developed and flushed out as a character.

Probably one of my least favorites in this series.

Niall Watson is at his sister Olivia’s wedding on Valentine’s Day, when suddenly he sees a masked figure lurking, and soon shots explode all around. Niall, a Medical Examiner in the Kansas City PD in an Irish family of cops, acts right away, but not before his grandfather is shot. After all the commotion, he finally arrives at his condo at 2 am, when he hears a baby crying, which is most unusual; he figures it could only be his neighbour’s, Lucy McKane. They have briefly spoken in the hallways and the laundry room a few times, but nothing more. After a while, unable to sleep, he goes next door to enquire, and notices the door is unlocked, and the crying baby is there all alone. Niall takes the baby back to his condo, and eventually Lucy gets home. It’s just not her style: Lucy is a social worker, and it’s unthinkable she would do such a thing, and Niall, always the investigator, starts investigating.

Try to read APB: BABY in one sitting because it is just too good, and having to stop hurts! I didn’t want to say more about the story itself, because what an exciting story it is; I was drawn in right from the start. Ms. Miller excels at creating atmosphere and building tension, and I couldn’t turn the pages quickly enough. The Watson family is a very interesting bunch, as are Niall and Lucy, and I immediately felt very comfortable with the premise and the characters. The descriptions are vivid and lively, it was just like at the movies, but better! Lucy is a chatterbox and somewhat impulsive, but still very professional and caring, whereas Niall is logical, calm and collected; at first he appears almost unfeeling, and this created a nice contrast as they had to work together to solve the case. Several secondary characters, not immediately in the picture, form the basis of the story line, and a riveting one it is. I liked that Lucy has tried to get Niall to notice her in the past, to no avail, although he finds her very attractive and intelligent; he is almost some kind of Dr. Spock, and it works splendidly!

I like Julie Miller, and it seems to me her writing is even more polished than it ever was, which is saying a lot. The pace is perfect throughout, the story is meticulously constructed and absolutely riveting; the romance builds slowly and blends seamlessly in the narrative. I thought it uncanny how it was such a pleasant and easy read, while being almost unbearably exciting. The more the story progresses, the more thrilling it becomes; I almost felt like shouting and jumping up and down. APB: BABY is outstanding! If you are thinking of reading one romantic suspense this year, make it APB: BABY!

When a near fatal shot at his sisters wedding leads to a mystery of who wants his grandfather dead Niall thought that that was going to be the hardest part of his day. Until he gets home to discover his neighbors apartment has been broken into, and that there is a baby left in the house.
Niall is a man better suited to finding out the facts so when having to care for a child brings out his emotions he just takes it as part of what needs to be done. But when the guardian of the child ends up pushing his feelings into the light of day he becomes even more confused. Especially with the protective instincts that rise up in force when the child and Lucy are in jeopardy by not just one person but two Niall will do anything to protect them.
Lucy has had a tough life so when one of her foster children from years ago reaches out for help Lucy rushes to help her, even putting her own life at risk. Lucy is a social worker so her whole life revolves around helping people to build a better life. So even though she may not have a spectacular life she does anything inorder to help those she cares about. This circle of care now includes a baby boy and a loving family. So picture a mama bear and her cubs. You do not want to go there.
This is an amazing read that you will not want to miss out on, it has suspence, romance, action, and a lot of great family love. DO NOT MISS THIS BOOK. If you do you will feel horrible and will have something missing for the rest of your life ;).

Niall works for the KCPD, following a long family tradition. However, Niall went a different route as the others and became part of the crime lab as the medical examiner. Niall understands and loves the science of his work and his family. When it comes to emotions, besides the love he has for his family, he's a little clueless as it can't be observed through a microscope. Oh wow, is he about to get knocked on his butt. *giggles in glee*

As the book opens, we witness the wedding of Gabe and Liv, Niall's sister, and the couple from Kansas City Cover-Up. A shooter opens fire at the conclusion of the ceremony, wounding Niall's Grandpa, Seamus. Hours later, upon returning home Niall is surprised to hear a crying baby coming from his neighbor's place. Thus begins a methodical mental breakdown of all the possibilities Niall can think of. When nothing seems to fit, he decides to investigate and finds a baby left unsupervised.

Lucy is not having a good day as she's received a message that her ex-boyfriend, Roger, the man that brutally attacked her, is out of prison and coming to see her. Plus, out of the blue, she gets a call from her former foster daughter, Diana, after a year of no contact and now Diana has disappeared. Now she arrives home to see signs of a break in. But maybe her day is looking up as the neighbor she's had a crush on needs to talk to her. Nope, it's gotten a little more complicated as he explains about finding the baby.

As the two work together to solve the mystery of Tommy, as they've named the baby, his parentage, the whereabouts of Diana, and keeping Lucy safe from her ex, Niall and Lucy slowly grow closer, until there's no denying the connection that is being forged between them. It's obvious to see these two are meant to be together as their personalities balance each other out perfectly and there's definitely chemistry. Niall, Mr. Scientific, looks at everything logically, whereas Lucy, Ms. Heart-on-her-Sleeve, is overflowing with love to give.

Who are Tommy's parents? If Diana is the Mom, what kind of trouble is she in? Who was the gunman at the wedding? Who was his target? Is Roger out for revenge against Lucy? Is their a HEA in Niall and Lucy's future? Keir's, Niall's youngest brother, book is next and I'm looking forward to his story. The wait until November will be hard though. *sad face*

One-click now to find out. While this is a part of the long-running, and fantastic, series The Precinct, as one of the many mini-series attached to it, I feel it could easily be read as a standalone as the author gives enough information to keep the reader from feeling lost and focuses the majority of the story on the main couple. However, I do recommend the series as a whole if you're looking for some great reading material.

ReAPB:Baby
By Julie Miller
This story started with a bang, literally. Meet the Watson family, all involved in law enforcement. Olivia Watson is marrying Gabe Knight. During her ceremony, a gunman begins firing on the crowd. The church is filled with members of law enforcement and they spring into action, especially the Watson brothers. During the melee, Seamus Watson, their grandfather is hit by a bullet. They chase the shooter but he gets away. Niall is the middle son who is also the KCPD’s medical examiner. Niall returns home from the hospital to his condo after spending hours at the hospital with his grandfather and hears the cries of a baby. The sound seems to come from his neighbor, social worker Lucy McKane’s condo. As Niall investigates the noise, he enters Lucy’s condo where he discovers a crying baby and no one else. As he leaves, his cop instincts kick in and he notices that the door has been jimmied open. Niall begins to take care of the baby with the help of his father when Lucy returns. She has no idea who the baby belongs to, but figures it out when she finds money missing from her secret hiding place. The money was taken by Lucy’s former foster daughter Diane. They figure that Diane left the baby and they set out to try to find her.
This is not the only mystery within this story. Niall and the other Watson men are still trying to locate the shooter and to figure out if Seamus was deliberately shot or was it an accident. Next, who is Lucy’s stalker, her ex or someone else? Will Niall finally recognize Lucy’s feelings for him? Finally, will they be able to find Diane and save her life before it is too late.
I really enjoyed this story. There were so many twists and turns. Just when I thought I knew the answers to some of the questions, Ms Miller surprises me with something else. Family plays an important role within this story. As we delve more into the story, the reader finds out that Lucy didn’t have the greatest childhood growing up, the opposite of the loving family Niall had. Lucy becomes involved with the Watson family as the investigations continue. The members of the Watson family, especially Niall’s older and younger brothers are interesting characters too. The interaction between Niall and Lucy is quite funny at times as Niall is often clueless and shy when it comes to relationships. There were quite a few surprises in this story. I can’t wait until the next book in this series. Love the Watson Family. I highly recommend this book.

I ended up enjoying this book, even though the first third or so was doing my head in. The story has ME Niall Watson finding a baby in the apartment near his. The apartment belongs to Lucy McKane. She suspects the baby might belong to her foster daughter, Diana, who she hasn't seen for a while, but has recently contacted her for help. She and Niall must figure out what Diana has gotten involved in and who might be after the baby, as it appears both baby and Lucy are in danger.

I was completely soured on the hero and heroine early on in the story. In regards to Niall, this is because in the space of one chapter, he is grabbing Lucy by the arm or waist and dragging her along behind him without her consent at least 5 TIMES. He may be confused about an abandoned baby in her apartment, but here in Australia, grabbing someone by the arm and dragging them is considered common assault, and is basically not appropriate in any context. I don't like that sort of behaviour in my heroes! He doesn't seem to do it again in the remainder of the book, but by then it was too late.

In regards to Lucy, it was her TSTL moment when she runs outside to investigate an argument, LEAVING A BABY BY ITSELF INSIDE. I mean, WTF?!? This baby was entrusted to her care! So, as I said, the book was initially doing my head in with the bizarre actions of the hero and heroine that didn't make any sense to me, and made me dislike them. On top of this, we have that old trope of Niall being the nerdy, technical, analytical professional who can't recognise proper emotional feelings (similar to Tempe Brennan in the TV show Bones.) It's been well and truly overused by now!

However, in terms of being a romantic thriller, this works quite well! The suspense was sustained well throughout the proceedings, trying to figure out what sort of danger baby Tommy was in, and the plot eventually revealed a very menacing villain. I remember the other books in this mini-series being quite good, and because I've read the rest of them, I was able to ignore the shooting-at-the-wedding subplot that's unresolved here, because I know how it ends. (Well, technically, I can't actually remember, but I know it was resolved in Protection Detail.)

Unfortunately, because the hero and heroine's actions in the first part of the book were either boorish (Niall) or asinine (Lucy), I couldn't forge any connection to them, so the only character who had me in their corner was baby Tommy. Good thing he couldn't walk or talk!

This was a story that had me hooked from the start with a shooting at a wedding after a long night at the hospital with his grandfather and trying to work out who the shooter is Niall comes home to his apartment hoping to get some much needed rest. What he hears is a baby screaming off its head next door. When the baby doesn’t stop he goes over finds the apartment has been broken into with only a screaming baby left behind. Where the devil is Lucy and why would she leave a baby here alone? Surely someone didn’t break in just to leave a baby but it looks like nothing is missing. This is where the story takes off with Lucy coming home finding the sexy man from next door in her apartment with a baby.

The author pulls you in with danger at every turn wondering who is after Lucy and baby Tommy and why would someone shut up a wedding. Everywhere you turn there are new threats and some old ones. Through the bullets, stabbings, fights, chases and trying to keep people alive the author gives you an intriguing read that keeps you turning the pages finding out what new twist this author has for your entertainment. Things are not always as they seem sometimes we can’t even believe our eyes.

This has a wonderful plot that will make you smile and leave you sad at the same time. The main characters are strong with a little nerdy around the edges. Who said a nerd isn’t sexy doesn’t know what they are talking about. Lucy is a wonderful caring woman who has a bad past but does her best to help others who might be going through the same things as she had. Niall is a very sexy nerdy doctor who deals with the crime scene of the dead. Give him a body and there isn’t anything he can’t tell you about it. Niall’s family are wonderful caring humorous people, they believe in family and stand beside each other. They are a group of lawmen who upholds justice at every turn. The only thing I didn’t understand was why the guy told Lucy to keep the baby away from its mother. This was never explained I guess it was to stop her from looking for her?

The author paints a vivid scene from fear, to death that you have no trouble picturing in your mind. You will not see the end coming as she spins a tale of anger, fear, hurt and control. This was a well written story that will stay with you. You will feel for those who are hurt and those that didn’t make it. You will cheer for you main characters as this family soon feels like they are yours. I can’t wait to read the next installment in this series and find out why the grandfather was shot and Keir story. He is the fun loving joke playing brother. If you are looking for a mystery full of suspense, a story inside a story and two people who give back more than that take who will love until the end of time this is a story you will love.

I really enjoyed this book. The action, and suspense was really good. The relationship between Niall, and Lucy was sweet. The book started off fast.

Niall was at his sister's wedding. Before the wedding was finished someone started shooting. As you can imagine the wedding broke out in chaos. His grandfather ended up being shot. Niall is a medical examiner working for the Police department. He was trying to find out how would do that, and why, doing paper work, and visiting his grandfather in the hospital. It was a long day / night. All he wanted was a few hours of peace and quiet before he had to go back to work. That didn't happen. He heard a baby crying. He didn't know anyone in his apartment building that had a baby. He went to go see why the baby was crying, when he found the baby had been left in his neighbors apartment alone.
Someone broke into Lucy's apartment and left a tiny little baby. She thinks it's her foster daughters baby. She is afraid for her safety. The suspense around the foster daughter stayed intense throughout the book.

The one thing I loved about this book was Niall was both a cop, and a doctor. When someone got hurt, he was there to offer medical assistance. When Lucy needed protection, his cop instincts was spot on. Loved this book!

3.5 “Dr. Watson” Stars

APB: Baby was like a more detailed and character focused episode of CSI or Law and Order. It was suspenseful with some unexpected twists and even a bit of steam.

Lucy is a social worker with a sad childhood and a complete dedication to her job. She’s been crushing on her hot next door neighbor since forever but he doesn’t seem to notice her that way.

Niall has lawman blood running through his veins. His grandfather, father and his siblings are all in some kind of law enforcement agency. His smarts made him chose Criminology as his field but what moves him is his call to serve. When he hears a baby screaming and crying nonstop in his neighbor’s house, he runs to the rescue.

Lucy comes home to a broken into apartment and her hot neighbor accusing her of leaving a baby on its own which is something she would never, ever do. Lucy suspects her former foster daughter is the baby’s mother and soon the baby (Tommy) is placed in Lucy’s care. With the girl nowhere to be found and dangerous things happening around them, Niall is not about to let Lucy or Tommy out of his sight.

I liked Lucy from the very start. She was completely devoted to her work and to every kid in the cases she was given. Because of her insecurities, she did have trouble believing that she could snag Niall’s attention.

Niall was a whole different story. He had an extremely analytical mind and an apparent inability to understand simple human emotions, reminding me of Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory. This made it difficult to connect with him at first. I found myself thinking a lot of his reactions and habits would have been explained by an Asperger’s diagnosis. He ended up being a fun character to get to know and the alphaness he exhibited was definitely a pleasant surprise.

“Legs. Waist. Now.”

Since I love me some police procedure shows, APB: Baby was a fun book to read and kept me entertained from start to finish. While the romance was not predominant throughout, it was still a lovely love story with some sad moments, some very nice steamy scenes and great family interaction.

I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for a honest a review.

This book was a start to a new series from this author. I have to say, I loved seeing a wedding of Olivia and Gabe Knight. That was so good, to see them get their happy after. Right after the wedding is a shooting, If you want to know more, you have to read the story.

I have to say this book was good, but for me it wasn't WOW. This is the first time that, Julie Miller did not get a five star review from me.

Niall was Hot with him being a ME and a Cop at the same time. He was great as a bodyguard with Lucy. Niall, find a crying baby in Lucy's apartment after her place got broken into and he hered the baby crying he confronts Lucy about it. So they are in charge of the baby who turns out was the son of Lucy's foster child. So of course there is suspense and action in this story and a HOT Cop/ME.

I loved the story between, Niall and Lucy but there was just something missing during the story. I am not sure what, I found myself skipping pages which I normally don't due with Ms. Miller's books. I think for me it was a little to much of Lucy's feelings and her emotions where a big turn off for me. I understand we need to know about her past but, the was a little of the top.

But Niall and Lucy was good together, and with the baby they were great. But in away Niall reminded me of Mac Taylor in a way.

All and all this is a must read. I am looking forward to the next one.

After finding a baby in her neighbour's condo, he teams up with Lucy to find her foster daughter, who she thinks is the mother of the baby. While doing this, they became closer.

Lucy's crush on Niall just gets deeper with the time they spend together until it transforms into love, the problem is Niall has some issues with feelings. It not that he doesn't feel, she can see how much he loves his family but loving a woman it's a different story plus she thinks she can't give him a family like the one he has if they ever get together. On the other side we have Niall, after spending time with Lucy he gets to know how a wonderful woman she is. The idea of being away from her or the baby keeps bothering him as they get closer to finding the truth. Those inexplicable feelings...

Even if they don't get to save Lucy's foster daughter, the ending was really funny. Lucy has to translate Nialls feelings for him to realize he loves her too LOL. Lucy is Niall's feelings translator.

I loved Niall from the start. He being hot is a bonus but what really makes him attractive is his brain and loyalty to his family. His nerdish behavior is so cute and funny but he's still tough and all man. We can see why Lucy have had a crush on him.

I really enjoyed Niall's character, he's my favorite brother in this series even though this is the first book.

I don't know if I have ever 'met' a couple, that are as perfect for each other, than Niall and Lucy are. So completely opposite, but complement each other. Niall, so smart, so brilliant, bright, and organized, logical, but so little human skills. And Lucy, she has the biggest heart, but in her own way, is as awkward as Niall is. But together they just melted my heart.
And how they take care Tommy, like he was their own baby. There are scenes with Niall and Tommy, that I didn't know if wanted to laugh out loud or sigh with adoration.
Yes, I am in head over heals with the characters in this new series. They are charming, witty, and charismatic. The humor is impeccable, the banter between the brother cracked me up, they are all very much different, with clear characteristics, but yet they all have the love for family, loyalty to their own, and caring for those who are dear to them.
The suspense builds up through the tale, the tension and danger accentuated as the clues come to light, and the culprits are narrowed down. The action is bloody, deadly, and brutal, but the brothers are doing what they can, to keep Lucy and Tommy safe, and find out what is going on.
Fantastic, alluring setting for the new series, with amiable characters, a murder attempt gone wrong, and edgy action.

I liked this even better than I thought I would. It caught my interest from the very beginning. Niall was a great character. He was so serious but still sexy with his messy hair and glasses. Lucy was just the opposite, an intrepid blabbermouth with a sweet caring disposition. Oddly enough, these two connected deeply, and Lucy seemed to read Niall like a book. When they team up to find Lucy's former foster daughter and care for the missing woman's baby, the chemistry between them catches Niall of guard. Lucy loves Niall's big loving family and finds herself fitting in a little too well since she is not sure if Niall sees her as anything more than a job or responsibility. In the meantime, someone is after the baby Lucy is protecting, and he doesn't mind hurting her to get what he wants. Niall intends to make sure that doesn't happen.

This story kept a good pace with plenty of suspenseful and action oriented moments. The relationship was really sweet and fun to watch develop. All the characters were interesting, so I will definitely be checking out the next book.

I received an ARC from Net Galley for review.

I like the Watson family. They are close and help each other. It starts off at Niall's sister wedding and a shooting.
It grabs you from the first. Keeps you guessing.

Niall Watson is a ME. He is smart, single, caring and logical. He finds a crying baby and steps into take care of him.
Lucy McKane is a social worker. She has no support system. Someone broke into her apartment and left a baby inside alone. She believes it is her foster daughter child.

Niall feels responsible for Tommy and Lucy. He wants to find out who left the baby and why. He is also worried about who shot up his sister's wedding. They shot his grandfather.

Lots of mystery, danger, cute baby and action. As they race to solve the mystery and find out who is following Lucy.

I want to read the rest of the books about the Watson family.

There is one love scene, some violence and lots of cute baby.

I was given this ebook to read from NetGalley and Harlequin. In return I agreed to give a honest review of APB: Baby.

First of the Bachelors in Blue miniseries, part of The Precinct. Niall Watson is one of the three older brothers of Detective Olivia Watson (Kansas City Confidential). They are all protective and all unmarried. Niall is the oldest and shy one, who is great in his crime lab but not as great with breathing humans. He is confounded by his pretty neighbor Lucy and can't have a real conversation with her. On the day of Liv's wedding, a tragedy happens. By the time Niall gets home he is exhausted and tries to rest. He hears a baby crying and it appears that the noise is coming from Lucy's apartment. He goes over to talk to her and finds the baby alone, Lucy nowhere to be found. Turns out the baby is the key to solving a few mysteries. Good one, and the ending is a clue as to the unsolved mystery that happens at the beginning.

After a near-fatal shootout at his sister's wedding, third-generation lawman Niall Watson comes home to a baby in distress. The abandoned newborn in his neighbor's apartment sends the Kansas City PD criminologist into rescue mode once again.

Social worker Lucy McKane will do whatever it takes to protect the infant boy entrusted to her care. The tall, sexy ME next door may be clueless about her feelings for him, but Niall's the only one who can keep them safe. As a vengeful killer targets them, desire draws Lucy and Niall dangerously closer. Together, can they find justice and safeguard their newly created family?

Alright I admit the cute baby on the cover had me even before I read the blurb. The protective hot guy didn't hurt either. A beautiful love story of two strong characters that fiercely protect those weaker than them. Moving at a quick pace, the story never bogs down or becomes boring or cloudy.

The scenes are vivid detailed so that the reader can build clear pictures in their mind. Helping to pull them even more into the story. Pick up a copy today. As are all the books in this series.

My rating of "APB Baby- The Precinct 28 - Bachelors In Blue Book 1" is 4.75 out of 5 stars.

I loved this book. I picked it up because of the title and the cover, I admit it. I had no clue what it was about other then it had a baby that the story centered around.

Nail Watson at the start of the book is only worried about keeping his brothers in line at his sister's wedding. But just after his sister is on the way towards happily-ever-after with her new husband and they are just started to walk the aisle again, a shooter appears. Almost everyone gets lucky, that is with the exception of their grandfather who got nearly killed in the shooting.

He gets home from the hospital and finds an unexpected noise. A crying baby. Only problem is an older couple who have grandchildren live there, but nope the baby isn't crying from there. The crying is coming from the apartment of a woman whom Nail thought was single. But as far as he knew she didn't have a baby. But he knew that she worked in social work. So he headed into his apartment trying not to think anything more about it. That is until the baby didn't seem to stop crying.

Upon further investigation, he finds her apartment door has been jimmied opened, she is missing and a baby alone in a car seat screaming and soaked. He takes the baby back to his apartment and does the one thing he can think of, he runs a bath in his sink for the boy and calls his dad to get some baby supplies while he tries to figure out what to do with the baby and where his neighbor is and why this baby was left alone.

When Lucy gets home, she discovers that she had two surprise visits while she was gone. Now she is needing to work together with Niall to keep this baby boy safe and help try to figure out where his mother is and what sent her into hiding? What they soon discover is a lot of twists and turns. But will they be able to save her foster daughter?

This book was incredibly annoying and difficult to finish despite being just 200 pages. First and foremost, the main character is a complete nitwit with zero sense of self-preservation and a surprising lack of experience with babies despite being a social worker. Then, we have the main male character -- Mr. Tin Man, we're told -- who, despite being an ME with the police department, finds his neighbor's house broken into with a baby abandoned inside and somehow never considers calling the cops lol. Beyond the sheer laughability at the lack of realism regarding police/social services involvement, Mr. Tin Man is also never given any sort of explanation as to how or why he's managed to live I'm guessing at least thirty years of life and never encountered or dealt with these strange things called "feelings". The whole thing is just utterly ridiculous and completely annoying.

3.5 rating on this first installment of Julie Miller’s The Precinct: Bachelors in Blue series. I really love a nerd. Our resident nerd, Dr. Niall Watson, is closer to Sherlock Holmes in demeanor. He is great at his job as the lead medical examiner for KCPD night shift.
His kooky neighbor Lucy McKane is a social worker for the city. She is outgoing, flamboyant, and secretly in love with her nerdy neighbor. The two are brought together when Lucy’s foster daughter breaks into Lucy’s apartment and leaves her a gift, an abandoned newborn baby boy.
These two unlikely protectors combine forces to find the baby’s mother. In the process they discover the father is part of the Russian mob and he is out to kidnap the baby and to kill anyone in his way—his identical twin brother and the mother of his child.

Three and a half stars.

The first in The Precinct: Bachelors in Blue mini-series, APB: Baby is about Niall Watson, a Kansas City PD criminologist. After a mysterious shooting at his sister's wedding, he returns home to a crying baby. He tracks the infant down to his lovely neighbor's apartment, and teams up with the social worker in question, Lucy McKane, to unravel the circumstances leading to her being entrusted with the little one.

The circumstances allow Niall and Lucy to explore their previously unacknowledged attraction, and they, at least, find some happiness and resolution.

Julie Miller pens a solid story, and keeps the pages turning! Looking forward to the rest of the series, and the chance to get to know Niall's brothers better in the books to come.

2.5 stars rounds up to three. I liked that the hero was super awkward about feelings, even if the rest of his nerdiness was more told and not shown.

Niall is puzzled why someone would shoot his grandfather at his sister's wedding. Niall is further puzzled and concerned when he returns home and hears a baby crying in his neighbor Lucy's apartment. Lucy has had a crush on Niall for a long time. When Lucy and the baby's lives are threatened, Niall steps in to protect them. This is a suspenseful story in an enjoyable series. Niall seems to have Asperger syndrome and is an intriguing character. Lucy is warm and connects easily with Niall. I enjoyed reading this book.

Once again, I'm a sucker for these rom-suspense books. I fly through them absolutely engrossed. This one was extra special as it's set in my city of Kansas City. So awesome to know the locations being talked about and picture everything accurately in my mind. I can't wait to keep reading in this series and read even more by Julie!! LOVED IT!
