Hi, I'm SJ. A coffee addict, lover of chocolate and drinker of good red wines. I'm a lost soul and a hopeless romantic. Reading and writing are necessary parts of who I am. Though perhaps not as necessary as coffee! I can drink coffee without writing, but I can't write without coffee.
I grew up loving romance novels, my first boyfriends were book boyfriends, but life intervened, as it tends to do, and I wandered down the paths of non fiction for many years. My life changed completely a couple of years ago and I returned to Romance to find my escape.
I write 'Sweet N Steamy' stories because to me there is enough angst and darkness in real life. My favorite romances are happy escapes with a focus on fun, friendships and happily-ever-afters, just like the ones I write.
These days I live in beautiful Montana, the last best place. If I'm not reading or writing you'll find me just down the road in the park - Yellowstone. I have deer, eagles and the occasional bear for company, and I like it that way :0)
SJ McCoy has definitely outdone herself with The Wedding Dance. You will laugh. You will cry--happy tears--while reading this latest novel in McCoy's Summer Lake series. The novel takes place over the 2 week period leading leading up to Dan and Missy's wedding in Las Vegas. Without giving away any spoilers, things don't go as smoothly as Missy and Dan would like. But, they do have their wedding dance in the end. Catching up with all the Summer Lake folks is definitely a big part of this book. Jack and Emma, Holly and Pete (that's a whole other subplot, but one that has a HEA), Michael and his Meggie (with a surprise), Chance and Kenzie (with another surprise), Smoke just trying to get a little one-on-one time with Laura, Gabe and Renee trying to keep up, April meets Eddie, and Nate moves to town. And, we get to meet new people--Dan and Jack's mom (who is making noises about moving to Summer Lake to be near her grands), Lilly (who owns the stables and has a secret crush), and, finally we all get to meet the infamous Charlotte. This novel definitely kept me glued to my NOOK.
I'm not sure how SJ McCoy keeps writing books that I can't put down, but she does. Book 8 of the Summer Lake series catches us up on all of the previous couples. We get to go to Vegas for the wedding of Missy and Dan and there are so many surprises along the way! I think this is by far my favorite Summer Lake book, but not one you should read before you read the books 1-7 as you will not know what is going on. This is another 5 star book!
“I didn’t say a woman asks for what she wants. She tells him what she wants. Men are simple creatures. They’re like dogs. If you give them a clear command, tell them what you want, they go off and do it and they’re all proud of themselves for pleasing you. If you don’t spell it out in no uncertain terms, they go off and do things by themselves, and it’s usually something you don’t like. Then you’re pissed at them, they’re pissed at themselves, because they hate to screw up, and they’re also pissed at you because they were trying to please you and you’re still not happy.”
My Review:
The Wedding Dance is the first of this delightful series that is not a stand-alone volume. Instead, it provides a detailed update and continuation of the previous story-lines of all the prior installments, and intersects and connects the couples and supporting characters during the planning, preparation, and finally the attendance of a Las Vegas wedding. The plot is quite active with many new story-lines and heart felt moments. I enjoyed it from beginning to end and am already looking forward to the next installment. Poor Ben, his story is long overdue.
I really loved reading this story, it was great to catch up with all of the Summer Lake gang and a couple of new faces too. As they all travel to Vegas to witness Missy and Dan's marriage. However there wedding was just the tip of the iceberg, so many other things happened, some very unexpected, some maybe not so but all good. Although there were a few sad moments, everything did work out and it was great to finally meet the elusive Charlotte, and I only hope this means Ben's story will be happening soon! but my absolute highlight of this story had to be Scot's speech, which even made me teary (and that takes a lot!!) and I can't wait to read more from this series next year.
As for this story I would definitely recommend it to others, but you need to have read the individual stories of those involved to understand all the relationships etc, and believe me reading this entire series is no bad thing, especially if your a fan of Marie Force and her Green Mountain or Gansett Island series, as these books are just as good.
As a fan of SJ's writing and someone who knows this series and its characters inside out, this book was an absolute dream!!! The Wedding Dance follows the whole Summer Lake Crew to Vegas to attend Dan and Missy's wedding. But with this gang, you never know what to expect! It was so much fun to get to revisit each couple and get into all my favorite characters heads once again. SJ did a wonderful job of bringing a brand new story together that involved each SL resident in their own special way. This book was romantic, heartbreaking, heartwarming, funny, and even with characters we already know, kept me on my toes the whole time! Congrats to SJ on a spectacular job and as always I can't wait for more <3.
The Wedding Dance by SJ McCoy, is another 5 star read for me....wow SJ hooks you on page one all the way through. Summer Lake Series is one of my favorite series ever. I have only read three in the series and I am hooked, it can be read as standalone, but would be helpful to read them all to understand the couple's. The characters are so well written they become part of you family and friends. We head to Las Vegas for Missy and Dan's wedding and oh what fun we have. I highly recommend this book and the first seven as well. I am so glad I discovered this wonderful author and looking forward to more books in the future.
I was given an ARC of this book, for my honest review.
Oh. My. God! What can I say about this great book and series? It was beautiful. More than once I had a tear in my eye. I loved catching up with everyone and seeing their stories progress. So much happened, so much love, forgiveness and marriages. I loved the small cross over with the Remingtons series allowing us to see more of Chance. Dan and Missy are the prefect couple and I love how they bring the best of each other out. Dan May of been the clueless nerd but not when it comes to Missy, he understands her perfectly and does everything he can to make sure she’s happy and loved. Ben is still a mystery and my heart breaks for him, I can’t wait to continue reading this series to discover his happy ending.
I absolutely loved this book, the fact that it was told by so many of the characters in the series was the icing on the cake for me. I was pulled in right from the beginning, which is something I love, it makes a book more entertaining if I can picture things in my head. I laughed, I cried, I sobbed that's just a warning for anyone planning on reading this book have the Kleenex handy. As usual there are twists and turns and surprise's, a lot of surprises but all good. Once again SJ McCoy has written a brilliant. book, I for one am looking forward to the next one, but not looking forward to the series ending. Highly recommend this book.
I started reading this series with the Summer Lake box set books 1-3)..... After I finished I kept readingthrough the series... Each story is its own standalone HEA, but then they ALL blend together and go SO well together. I've read through them all-(not just this series!), you will do the same!! I CANNOT wait for SJ's next book!!!
This book was wonderful! You have to read the preceding books in the series to understand it; they’re great and it’s well worth the journey. There are also several opportunities for a few happy crying sessions throughout this book. Enjoy. Now for all the other books that follow...
People...you have no idea what wonderful books SJ MCCoy writes. Love, marriage, friendship all rolled into one. Do yourself a favor and read them all. Summer Lake or the Remmington series you will never be disappointed. Don't forget the tissues!!
this one has been brilliant up downs everything u want from a good read. Onto book 9 can't wait to see what happens with Ben. 5 stars aren't enough I give SJ McCoy 10
I loved that all the characters had parts in this book. It really was a roller coaster to the wedding. I am so glad at got to be a part of many people life's. Can't wait for Ben"s story! He is such a wonderful guy and I can't edit for him to get his happy ending.
I have read and enjoyed all the books in this and the Remington series by SJ McCoy. If you like romance and small town family and friends books, you will have to read these books.
This one has many surprises but it also gets you caught up on everyone in the summer lake series. Definitely a great read. On to the next. I can't get enough of this series.
Absolutely loved it. I think this is the best in the series so far. It made me laugh, brought tears to my eyes several times and left me ready for Ben's story.
Great book, loved all the multiple weddings and how all the characters are really coming together. These characters have become my friends and I am hooked
How fun to revisit all the couples in Summer Lake - plus a few extras I hope to see more of - in this long weekend in Las Vegas. There was a lot of ground to cover, and a lot of POVs, but that was part of the fun. At times the narrative switched seamlessly between characters, and it became akin to being at the various events, moving from group of friends to group of friends, and thereby moving across the landscape of the story.
Call me a realist, but I liked that some of the characters - despite having had their own happy ending in their featured book - were realizing that relationships aren't all buttermilk and bananas. They take work. That is life. So seeing characters working through some schtuff made me happy.
I also loved the surprises - not surprises for me, as a reader they were a bit predictable - but the characters scheming up surprises for each other. Overall the various storylines were sweet and entertaining. The characters, as usual, are very well drawn and consistent. I never got confused about whose head I was in, or surprised by things that were out of character. I was even moved to tears by at least two scenes.
As usual, there were a couple of characters I wanted to beat on the head with a...(looking around Las Vegas for something suitable to use)...maraca to make them see sense, but there are people IRL that I want to do that to, also, so nothing new there.
As far as the location, there was really very little of Las Vegas to be found. I didn't get a real sense of place. Then again, Las Vegas is really a character in its own right - a big, flamboyant character that could easily run away with the book, so while I missed it a bit, the story was about the characters from Summer Lake, so I understand why it wasn't there in big, full color.
Another thing that was utterly missing, but not missed (since I only just realized it as I am writing this review) is the
The Wedding Dance is a solid addition to the Summer Lake Romances. You won't want to read it if you haven't read the other books. It just won't make sense at worst, and at best, you won't care about any of the characters, since most of them have been developed in the previous books. (You can get away without having read the Remington Ranch books, although there is crossover mention of the Montanans.)
Fair warning, it ends on a bit of a...not really a cliffhanger, but the final three words say it all: "Wait and see."
LOVED THIS BOOK!!! It was great to catch up with everyone. I can't believe that Pete almost let Holly go. I was really hoping that they would take Michael and Megan's spot. I was so happy that they did. Glad that Missy was able to get everyone together to be at Kenzie and Chase's spontaneous wedding. I am so happy that Emma and Jack are going to be parents along with Michael and Megan. I know that Ethan will be super excited. Hope there is another book in the future similar to this so we can get an update about how they are doing. Maybe a book when they are all having their babies?? So I read the first 3 books in this series a few months ago. And just got started on the rest. I really can't wait to read the next series and learn about Shane/ Cassidy and Mason.

OMG, OMG, OMG!!!!! I freaking loved this book. Dan has always been my favourite of SJ McCoy’s characters. Seeing him and Missy get married was amazing. This was however only one of the reasons I loved this book. I got to catch up with all my Summerlake favourites including the lovely Jack and Emma, the first couple to be brought together at the lake. We find out what the deal is with Pete and Holly’s strained relationship, we find out more about other characters such as April too. This is the eighth book in this series and it certainly covers a lot. There are many twists and turns along the way but to mention any of them would certainly ruin the surprise. The books which come from this lady just keep getting better and better. I really look forward to seeing what is next, I really hope its Bens story as The Wedding Dance left on a note that left me NEEDING to know what is going on with him. Once again, an amazing book which I really do recommend.
