Werewolf shifter, Brock Holt refuses to put his paws all over his sexy accountant. She's off limits--no questions asked. But when a perilous situation forces him to turn in front of her, all bets are off. She knows his secrets, and now her life could be in danger. Claiming sultry and smart Elsie as his own, Brock swears it's only for her protection.
Brock missed one small fact: Elsie is far from helpless--or innocent. A born and raised siren, Elsie spent her life fighting against her destiny, refusing to lure unsuspecting men into her clutches. But now that she has Brock, does she really want to let go?
Mallory Crowe has lived in Michigan her whole life and has been in love with romance ever since she'd skip to the end of every novel, just to make sure the hero and heroine survived and ended up together. She lives with her husband and three dogs. When she's not writing, she's spending too much time in front of the TV, hiking, or working with various animal rescues.
If you have watched my reviews of this series, you will find I am having mixed feelings about "Bad Boys of The Underworld" series. If not, the first part of my review will be about this book as a stand alone novel and the end about the series as a whole.
This is a wolf shifter paranormal romance. It does reference some things from prior books but it is minor and you can read this as a stand alone.
There are wolves, sirens, vampires and something new to me "myotis. Myotis seem to be something bat like or maybe gargoyle but I believe the next book is the Myotis, Lucien's story.
As far as a shifter story, this one is well written and follows most of the werewolf information that all wolf lovers are used to. There is a good balance of action, adventure, mystery, suspense and romance. There is not any overdone erotica which I was glad for. The characters are good and you get a good look at the good guys but not a lot about the bad guys. I didn't get an emotional attachment to the "king" but did feel like I would be good pals with his mate. There is a lot going on in this book and it left many questions unanswered for me. I am curious about both sorceress' and the young wolf that caused trouble for the siren. I would have liked to understand the bad guys better but there were so many things going on that Crowe could have written two more books. The story was good and I enjoyed the read.
As for the series as a whole (after the first two books, I purchased the rest of the series), other than a few references there isn't much connection. I don't understand why these were sold as a series. The first two were awesome but after that the books can be stand alone. Honestly, I don't think I would have purchased book 3 or 4.
So, this book has a nice story and is a good read. As for the series, it's not something I would have purchased beyond book 2 had I known where Ms. Crowe was headed. On to the last book as I have already bought it so it must be read.
I’m shocked to say it, but I actually really enjoyed this book. I’m still trying to wrap my head around that myself considering how much I hated or didn’t care for the first three books. This one had the same feel but also felt very different from the others at the same time, it’s hard to explain. It still had the “I love you” close to the abrupt ending that I’ve come to expect but I felt like the timing just worked for Elsie and Brock because they’d come full circle. They had time to get to know each other, even though it was kind of forced upon them due to circumstances, they just fit so well and felt realistic. They knew their situation wasn’t ideal but made the best of it, they behaved like mature adults, had good reasons when they were angry or upset, and overall were just decent people that were very easy to like and root for.
I’m glad that when Dani made a stupid, naive mistake, she was forced to take responsibility for her dumb decision. Her being a teenager isn’t an excuse to get away without reprimanding for putting Elsie in danger. She was old enough to know better and a lot of times authors let kids or teenagers get off scot free when they put someone else’s life in danger simply because they’re a kid and don’t know better. Nope, not in this book, she’s scolded to the point that she understood she screwed up, was heavily reprimanded, and so ashamed that she took off. I was proud of Brock for laying it into her because it showed how much he truly cared for Elsie but also made it a point that kids shouldn’t be exempt from punishment for bad decisions. To be honest, I’ll admit I think Brock was a little too harsh on her, with Dani being his niece and I feel like certain things he said about her in anger was pushing it, considering this is a girl he’s known all of her life and watched her grow from a baby to a teenager. I find it a little hard to believe he’d be so angry at her to the point that he’d kick her out of his pack, but at the same time I get it, and I respect how he put Elsie above anyone else including his own niece, after giving it some thought.
Brock and Elsie were such a great couple and I loved seeing how far they came from the beginning. Elsie was endearing with how she kept apologizing and making excuses for why he felt so strongly about her. It was amusing seeing her try to convince him that he only felt the way he did because she was a siren and it only made me love her more that she didn’t let her mother and sister’s scheming ways influence her. She was truly a genuine, selfless, kind hearted soul. I also love the fact that she embraced her beauty and had no qualms about taking care of her physical appearance. She was beautiful and knew it. It’s refreshing to see a heroine who takes pride in her appearance, there’s nothing wrong or shallow about loving makeup and clothes.
Brock was amazing in how dedicated and protective he was from the start with her. He was patient and understanding. He let her set the pace of everything, he defended her to his family who judged her without giving her a chance. He kept her safe above all when he could have just let her fend for herself and figure out a way out of the problem. He took responsibility right away for her safety. He was just an all around decent guy.
It took me a minute to warm up to the fact that they didn’t have pre-destined chosen mates for them since that was all I’d ever read before this but once I got the feel for how this world worked, I was ok with that because of how amazing Brock and Elsie were together. This was such a good paranormal book and I can definitely say I see myself giving this another read in the future. Well done.
I loved this book. Elsie is a strong, determined Siren and Brock is a strong, determined werewolf. Nothing can go wrong in this mating. Elsie has worked for Brock for years, unaware that he is a werewolf. Brock has lusted for Elsie for years, unaware that she if a Siren with vampires for relations. When Elsie sees Brock being attacked, she steps in to save him. He does need the help, but not because he is a helpless human. When Elsie kills the attacker a whole new problem develops. The myotis are not forgiving when one of their own is killed. Brock steps in and claims Elsie as his mate. He is given leeway to kill when his mate is threatened. Elsie's mother is ecstatic. Elsie, on the other hand, was not planning on marrying at all. She didn't want to have a man that was so bound to her that he couldn't function if the marriage was a failure. Brock is not worried about Elsie's Siren abilities. He is worried about his family's curse. He is the werewolf king, and werewolf queens do not last long. They are killed in a dream by the first queen. It is believed you have to be strong enough to kill her to be accepted as queen, and none have survived. Brock hopes that Elsie's non-werewolf state will keep this from happening to her. But does she still have a non-werewolf state? Maybe her mother forgot to mention some important things about Siren mating. So begins a story of love, hot sex, and treachery. It will keep you guessing to the very end, and you will even meet the hero of Book 5. So enjoy this and the rest of the books in the series.
>I am an independent reviewer. This book is the 4th in the Bad Boys of the Underworld series and ends in an HEA. Elsie is a siren. She thinks of herself as a leech and refuses to date. She throws herself in her work and is extremely competent. Her boss, Brock, is a werewolf, unaware that Elsie is a paranormal. When they are both attacked by a paranormal threat, they realize they both are not human.
>Brock claims Elsie as his mate to save her, knowing mating is forever. Elsie's mom is a hysterical meddler and really adds to the story, riding the line between truly unpleasant and just over caring in regards to Elsie. Brock begins to show his alpha tendencies towards Elsie, which is super romantic. Elsie needs to overcome a werewolf curse and a violent takeover in Brock's pack, bringing her and Brock closer together.
>This book is appropriate for an adult audience. I am giving the story 5 stars. There was danger, romance and the promise of things to come. A fun read.
I received an ARC of this book for an honest review.
This is an unusual story. It primarily centers around Elsie, who is a Siren, and Brock, who is a Werewolf. But all sorts of characters in the book are other types of paranormal creatures. Elsie's mother and sister are Sirens like her. Her step-father, step-brother, and brother-in-law are all Vampires, and she was raised around Vampires. Brock, the Werewolf, is also her boss, but she doesn't know he's anything but human. Brock isn't just a werewolf; he's the King of Werewolves, and all his family are werewolves too. There's also a lot of interaction in the story with a Myosis clan, a paranormal shifter species I've never even heard of before. (They're some kind of bat-like creature that are really ugly, and like to rape and eat Sirens.)
Anyway, Elsie is a beautiful Siren who works for Brock. She's not like your typical Siren, looking to latch onto a man to drain him of his energy. She thinks that's wrong. In fact, she's never dated and never even kissed a man. One evening when Elsie is working late, she hears the sound of a fight in the parking lot. She looks out and sees two creatures fighting. One is some type of ugly monster, who turns out to be the Myosis. The other is a man partially turned into a werewolf, with only his claws and fangs changed, and she is startled to see it is her boss, Brock. She runs out to protect him and stabs the Myosis in the eyes with a pair of scissors. It hardly effects him. The Myosis starts attacking Elsie, and Brock comes to her rescue. The fight switches back and forth, and Elsie finally kills the Myosis by shooting him. But Elsie knows it's just a matter of time until the Myosis clan comes after her, and she's in serious trouble.
When the Myosis come after Elsie, Brock tries to negotiate with them. He claims that he was only trying to defend his mate. Apparently there are some governing rules between Werewolves and Myosis, and Myosis will not attack a Werewolf's mate. Who would have thought? So Elsie is let off the hook temporarily, but the Myosis want further proof that Elsie is Brock's mate. Brock has been attracted to Elsie for the two years she's worked for him, so he doesn't mind protecting her this way. Elsie, on the other hand, is flabbergasted! She doesn't want her boss to be trapped into mating with her. She tries to prove to him that she wouldn't make a good mate - she doesn't even know how to kiss! She kisses him to prove what a horrible kisser she is. But in the kiss, there is an exchange of saliva and DNA, and Elsie's body immediately goes into some kind of mating process, and she is unconscious a week while her body makes the changes necessary to be officially married to Brock. Oops!
Alright, that's all I'm telling you. All of that is fairly early in the book, so there is still lots and lots of action and interplay between all the various species. Oh, and did I mention that there is disagreement among the werewolf ranks, and there are some rogue werewolves that want Brock out of power as king? Yes, even the werewolves are attacking each other. There's even some sorcery that comes into play at some point.
In a nutshell, this book is filled to the brim with a wide array of characters and action. Then of course there's the love story of Elsie and Brock, who are mated but find they don't even really know each other. It is extremely well written and never boring.
I decided to give it 4 stars instead of 5 because some of the scenarios were unlikely and a little hard to believe, even for paranormals. It also got just a tad confusing for me at times. But it was really close to a 5 for me. If you love a wide variety of paranormals, this book is a perfect choice for you. Even though it is Book 4 of a series, it is very easily read as a standalone, with a HEA ending :)
I really enjoyed reading this book. It is about all things paranormal. You get werewolves, vampires, sirens, sorcerers, and a new kind called myotis. There is danger, suspense, and romance and you will have a hard time putting down this book. I really liked the way the romance started as the two main characters were basically pushed together. I don't want to give too much away (spoilers) so you just need to read it. It is a standalone but I do recommend reading the others in this series as they are tied together from the same timeframe. I was given a copy of this book for my honest review.
I received an ARC of this book for an honest review.
I loved this book. In my opinion, it's the best Bad Boys of the Underworld series. AND that's saying a lot, This book is about Brock Holt and Elsie. Brock is Elsie's boss and off limits. Elsie is not interested in any man. She is a siren and as long as she remains single, she will live a normal - mortal life. She has fought her mother and her sister on this point. She does not want to ensnare an immortal man to live forever. Brock is king of the werewolves. Though there are those who do not believe he should be. When a mytosis attacks Brock, he is forced to shape shift in front of Elsie. Elsie kills the mytosis and becomes the target of all the mytosis. Brock in an effort to save her claims her verbally as his mate. Elsie is not happy about this but goes along to stay alive. However, when lack of information leads to a binding of Brock and Elsie, they have to rethink things and figure out how to move forward. Between fighting with his family (who doesn't want to accept Elsie as their queen), being betrayed by the one she thought was her friend, fighting the werewolves who think Brock isn't worthy, finding out what effects binding has on her, dealing with her attraction and feelings for Brock and oh yeah - trying to survive the original werewolf queen (who has already killed Brock's first wife) every time she goes to sleep - Elsie's life has become quite different from what she wanted. Throw in the mytosis asking her to find them mates so that their species doesn't die out and you have a non-stop, nail biting good read. Highly, highly recommend this one!
Well what can I say another great read. Elsie was a born half mortal, half siren to her she vowed to herself that she would never ever end up in a relationship. If she were she found that she would have to choose a husband who was immortal for they are the only ones who could help the sirens live forever.
But only if the siren were to bond with her mate through one kiss, one of the details her mother decided to keep from her. Brock Holt was the gorgeous CEO of the HOLT company, he too had a secret and it was revealed one night while she was there to collect evidence for her boss Brock, on her way out she had seen Brock fighting with a myotis more deadly than any other living immortal.
She had become queen of the werewolves along with her husband Brock the king of the wolves along with that comes a curse for every new queen that lives they have to face the original queen of the wolves, but only in their nightmares.
So I will not leave spoilers behind it will ruin the suspense of this book. Can a siren defeat the queen of the wolves and gain her power and live to tell the tale, will Elsie and Brock get to see forever? Read about their story right here in Ruling fire.
It is a really interesting romance between two people that thought they knew each other but realize they have been keeping a lot of secrets. The secrets are revealed during an attack and lead to Brock and Elsie bonding together to stay alive.
Elsie is a siren and resists her nature. Her mother wants her to find a powerful paranormal to mate with but she wants to be independent. She has no idea Brock is a werewolf. Brock has been attracted to Elsie since she first stated working for him two years ago but he resisted those urges because he thought she was a human and not a good fit with his life.
When these two get together, the chemistry is intense. There is a big power struggle among the werewolves and Elsie is put right in the middle of the situation. Brock wants to keep her safe but it is not easy.
It is a really good story with lots of interesting characters and revelations that keep you guessing. I would enjoy spending more time with these characters. I like that we get both characters to narrate so you understand more about their thoughts and motivations.

Explicit Content Elise and Brock fit right in the supernatural world, but with a story all their own. Elise decided to never be with a man, even if her mother insists. Too much is at stake and she wants to be independent. She does not count on Brock and his attraction to her nor his desire to keep her safe. They are forced/ rushed into their mating and the outside stresses do not give them a real chance to get to know one another. Elise may seem fragile to everyone, but she has the strength to fight for her life.

What can I say ? Mallory Crowe has me hooked on this one too ! The story is about Elsie Handeland , a smart born and raised siren heroine who saves the life of her boss Brock Holt , a werewolf shifter by killing a very dangerous myotis . So far *the spoilers* in this amazing read with a superb cast of very interesting main characters and not to mention the supporting characters (Lucian, Rebecca, Russell, Dani ...)They are awesome on their own because each of them makes their own mark on Brock and on Elsie . This very thrilling book drew me in pretty easily. It's not too heavy on the magic and the mystery aspect was pretty interesting , as well as Mallory's take on sirens & myotis lore . This is a must read if you like a delightful , humorous and sensual paranormal romance , with a great plot and sizzling sex. Mallory always leave me wanting more .. and I love the fact she gave Lucian his proper story too..... already anxiously looking forward to it. ~~ Received as ARC for an honest review ~~
I'm not usually a fan of paranormal books, all though this book has me hooked. It has romance, suspense and humor that had me laughing out loud. This is a stand alone but I recommend reading the previous books in the series. I can't wait until the next book comes out. This series is great! This book drew me in easily because it's not very heavy on the magic and the mystery aspect was very interesting. Mallory's take on sirens & myotis lore adds another dimension to the story. This is a must read if you like a slightly humorous and sensual paranormal romance that has, a great plot and sizzling sex. Mallory always leave me wanting more and I am anxiously looking forward to Lucien's story.

This book was incredible! Brock and Elsie are thrown together, each one protecting the other, which unexpectedly ends up permanently binding them. As they get to know each other their passion is unleashed but Elsie's secrets almost cost her her own life. Brock will do anything to protect his new mate, but will that even be enough. This story has so much passion and is so filled with action and excitement it is hard to put down, even for a moment. Mallory Crowe really knows how to write a page turner! She introduces supernatural creatures who are very intriguing and her creativity knows no bound. A must read book!!!
This has werewolves, sirens, vampires, and "Myotis" who are a terrifying breed. Brock Holt is a werewolf king and Elise is his accountant he comes to town to talk to her about a discrepancy in the books, who is taking the money and why ? Brock has wanted Elise for two years now, but he will not act on it because he thinks he could not keep her a “ human “safe .What happens when he finds out she is a siren? Who are the Myotis and why was Brock attacked by one? Who is Marella why has she caused Brocks family so much heartache ? Lastly who is Cullen and Rachel ? I was gifted a copy for an honest review barwatts@telus.net
Honestly, I loved this book MORE than the first two! So much more! I love their story! I didn't want it to end! I'm scared to read the last one because when it is over a piece of me will just whither and die. The true art to being an author, in my opinion, is the ability to give people an escape into another world. To be apart of something no one else is. So thank you, thank you for giving me my escape. This is why I fall in love with books. -Danielle
This book was awesome. Best in the series so far. I was drawn in from the first chapter and could not put it down. Brock and Elsie were both well written characters and made this story very interesting and full of suspense. I highly recommend this book. Received this ARC for free for an honest review.
Another great book Mallory! I loved Brock and Elsie. The werewolf queen was a new twist. I love vampire books but werewolves are my favorite. I couldn't put the book down, it kept my attention and was action packed. I received this ARC for an honest review. I can't wait to read the next one.
Another fantastic story, the twists and turns that Brock and Janie go through keep a reader on their toes. I couldn't put this story down, couldn't wait to find out if they beat the curse.
This book was somewhat fun. I liked it. I liked the story, I liked where Crowe took things in the book and even though it hurt our characters, it was well thought of. The steamy scenes were on point. But the downfall for me here was the ending. It could've been a little more exciting.
