Arriving from space, he’s part man, part machine, with a rocket in his pants… Stella runs her business selling “pleasure robots” with organization and efficiency. But the stress of running a business under the thumb of her ex-boyfriend’s gangster operation can leave her tense, so she’s not ashamed to sample the pleasures offered by her own merchandise from time to time. When one of her pleasure bots disappears from her bed while she’s sleeping, an awkward game of hide and seek ensues.
Zain, an Orbital Wars veteran, has the kind of sculpted body usually found only on manufactured robots—sculpted and inhumanly strong. When he stows away in a pleasure bot box, the last thing he expects is to be commanded into service. As he gets to know Stella, though, he’ll find that while he might not be all human, he’s definitely got a heart, and it wants only one woman.
When Stella’s ex-boyfriend throws a monkey wrench into her business, will Stella and Zain be able to depend on each other—or is their time together nothing more than mechanics?
A few days ago I received an email from Olivia Myers saying (in part): "I hope you don’t mind me reaching out to you but if you liked Cinder (The Lunar Chronicles Book 1) then you might also love my newest book Biomechanical Hearts because it’s in a similar category as the book you already reviewed." She then offered a free download in hope of a review.
Cinder is a well-written YA fantasy adventure novel featuring a heroine who has a obviously mechanical foot. Biomechanical Hearts has a character with a mechanical arm who is initially mistaken for a sexbot. It is barely long enough to qualify as a novella. It is hard-core sf romance (i.e. it has explicit sex scenes). And near the beginning was this sentence: "As if hearing her musings from the cargo bay, a loud buzzing noise resounded." That sentence ended my hope of well-written. (Who heard her musings? The buzzing noise?) BH is basically a brief intro, two sex scenes (lots of pounding, jabbing, and even bruising) separated by enough extraneous plot to allow the reader a breather, and a quick end in which the two main characters fall in love, so the sex is retroactively OK.
The download included another 25 of Ms Myers's "books" similar in length and subject. I think I'll pass.
Fun, unique bundle of sci-fi romantica and contemporary short stories. There were a few I didn't care for but the others made up for it. Most are not love triangles. There are a few typos. The writing varies as well and my ratings include that.
I was asked to read this collection of stories and write an honest review. Ms Myers has a vivid imagination and the ability to put what she imagines into words. Well written with good editing, this collection should appeal to fans of adult romance/fantasy.
Biomechanical Hearts- First couple paragraphs into the story: FL's brand new sex bot is not responding after her 2nd command, so she takes a crowbar, cusses him crudely, and swings it at his head (intending to cause serious damage). Ugh... psycho, much? Dropped it right there. Byeee...
Biomechanical Hearts I hate it when people say this in reviews, but... The author enquired a review and I always accept, but I was told it was like Cinder ...nope it is not. Now while I prefer more erotica over YA and love cyborgs, aliens and outer worldly things...this was not what I was expecting and it still let me down. But solid stuff worth a four stars...
Now for the ton of bonus content...I got to the second story and gave up at 8%, because the tone stays the same as it is the same author, it bored me and I really don't have 30+ hours according to my ereader, to push on and try finishing it, when as I said, the second story made me rather wanting to do exercise than live through it. Thus a two star for not wanting to go on.
Still, I suppose since I didn't finish it, three stars is fair to stay unbiased.
I found this short story very interesting. The story has good bones ( no pun intended) but it does leaving you wanting to know more. The life and business that Stella has created allows her to stay detached and untangled. The plot really get moving when her newest shipment arrives. I like how the story allows you to learn more about Stella's life and shows that she needs more In her life than what she can control. The story is very short and I hope the author will consider re-releasing this as a fully developed tale. The characters and the environment is primed to be a hot and adventures read.
She is a purveyor of pleasure bots and she is testing her latest one. He is not acting like any hot she ever bought before. This story has a little suspense and deception in it. Enjoy I did. In the Love and Whiskers bundle.
