This is the story of the Wetherall family, mother Sarah, daughter Prudence, and son Tom of Philadelphia in 1755. The father had passed away, and the mother was struggling to work the farm. Young Tom, 16, wants a different life and heeds the call of Benjamin Franklin to deliver the mail west.
As the French and Indian war nears, the family becomes embroiled. They meet George Washington and play a part in the messages that travel between him and Mr. Franklin.
