Grrrr I hate writing three star reviews!!!

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

I am too lazy to write a long one because I simply don't have much to say about this.

The beginning
was great and I loved the constant fighting between them.
The sex was pretty hot, especially the first one.

But then around the middle I just lost interest and skimmed it to the end.

So there, I can't give any more than three stars to a book which I skimmed half of.

Btw I don't know what exactly was the problem for me, maybe it was the writing style, because I've read so many historicals that sound much more authentic, while this looked forced with the language, and the MCs sound contemporary American, just somehow set in Regency Britain. Oh well.

Maaaaaybe I'll try another one from this series but I don't know.

Hot Damn Sylvia Day....I Need a Cold Shower!!!

widow
If all angels of death were as lovely as you, men would line up to die.

Maria is the Wintry Widow. She is rumored to have murdered her first two husbands. And both of them were agents of the Crown. The law wants her to pay for her crimes…but they are lacking evidence.

Christopher St. John
description

Christopher St. John is an infamous pirate. He has been arrested and in order to secure his freedom, he must find evidence against Maria. Proving that she was behind the deaths of her two previous husbands. As he seduces her, he finds that his heart is not immune to her beauty and charms.

“You know as well as I that you crave me. Crave the feel of me inside you, stretching that tight, delicious cunt. Imagine days and nights spent like this, your ripe little body fucked so well it is nearly too much to bear.”

Yeah, this dirty talking pirate will have you reaching for your BOB…or a bucket of ice water!

kissing

“This is heaven,” he gasped. “I want to live inside you, feel you suck me deeper and deeper until we are one.”

This was a wonderful love story as two aristocrats are pitted against each other. As they learn to trust, they open their hearts to each other. It was a fast paced page turner, full of action and deceit. And the chemistry between these two is palpable. I highly recommend this book to anyone that loves erotic historical romances.

I’m such a sucker for chemistry in a historical romance, and this book was all about the chemistry. Sizzling, intense, delicious chemistry. From Christopher and Maria’s very first meeting, through the intriguing, well-written story, to the end of the book, their chemistry and connection burned up the pages. And it went way beyond the physical. Mind, body, heart and soul. Two of a kind, cut from the same cloth.

Their first meeting, as they are leaving a crowded theater and he accidentally-on-purpose bumps into her (and it only gets better from here 😉)…

Then she was bumped none too gently from behind, and as she stumbled, was caught close to a hard body.

“I beg your pardon,” murmured a deliciously raspy voice so near to her ear she felt the vibration of it. The sound stilled her, caught her breath and held it. She stood unmoving, her senses flaring to awareness far more acute than usual. One after another, impressions bombarded her—a hard chest at her back, a firm arm wrapped beneath her breasts, a hand at her waist, and the rich scent of bergamot mixed with virile male. He did not release her; instead his grip upon her person tightened.

His ungloved hand lifted to cup her throat, his touch heating the rubies that circled her neck until they burned. Callused fingertips touched her pulse, stroking it, making it race. He moved with utter confidence, no hesitation, as if he possessed the right to fondle her whenever and wherever he chose, even in this public venue. Yet he was undeniably gentle.

The servant’s wide eyes were trained above her head, his throat working convulsively as he swallowed hard. Then he looked away. She sighed. Apparently, she would have to save herself. Again. Her next action was goaded as much by instinct as by forethought. She moved her hand, setting it over his wrist, allowing him to feel the sharp point of the blade she hid in a custom-made ring. The man froze. And then laughed. “I do so love a good surprise.”

“Who are you?”
“I am what you need.”

And BOOM, I was all in! What a wild, intense ride it was.

Christopher lifted his glass to her in a silent toast and she smiled a woman’s smile, one filled with mystery. To the winner, the spoils.

This was a 4 1/2 read, when I rounded it down to a four that seemed somehow wrong hence the 5.

I really loved the hot romance between Maria and Christopher in my second read by Sylvia Day (first one was Ask for It which was equally as hot),coupled with the plot which involved Christopher and Maria being initially set up to betray each other by third parties it made for a nice read. Maria has earned herself the dubious title of The Wintery Widow because of the cold hearted way in which she disposes of her husbands once she has ensured she is firmly in their enthrall. Christopher is sent to ensure her confession and subsequent trip to the gallows in return for a pardon from his pirating activities. Meanwhile Maria is coerced into obtaining information from Christopher namely why he has been released from prison.
As Maria and Christopher begin to fall in love, the terrible truth behind their meeting unfolds and whilst this could have ended up in some horribly exasperating scenario thankfully it didn't, both Christopher and Maria seek the truth from each other and decide to twist the arrangements to suit themselves, which was refreshing because in so many of these stories you end with the 'big mis~understanding' which quite frankly frustrates the hell out of me.
All of this coupled with the really hot, romantic moments between Christopher and Maria, together with the burgeoning relationship between two supporting characters who have their own book later on made this a lovely romantic read. I really can't wait to get my hands on a copy of the next instalment.

Oh my gosh was this book all kinds of hot, hot, hot, hot, hot !! And no am not referring to the sex parts, okay those were really awesome too, but the actual plot was so unbelievably fascinating that half way through I already decided this one gets onto my auto to re-read list!

Photo
The read tells of Christopher he is infamous for satisfying his limitless wants and desires, don't you just love him already ?!

Now that he is once again a free man he devotes his time to engage, deceive and seduce the one woman that is just as ruthless as he is that is when it comes to the games of passion.

Maria is far from innocent in the ways of men but even with always ensuring she is one step ahead of Christopher and very much enjoying each delicious, sweet soul tempting unbridled kiss it does not mean she is going to walk away as the winner of this little game.

Her world comes crashing down when she discovers just how deep her feelings run and has to face reality but is she willing to risk losing the game when sacrificing her heart?

From the above alone you can tell this was one totally fabulous plot, what made it even more perfect was that each and every character was stunning created by the author to perfectly slot in with every aspect of this read.

The entire flow of this read was simply magic and never once was there a dull moment but, there certainly was more than one moment of me double checking over my shoulder to see what am reading, you know when you get that feeling that you are in some way suppose to feel guilty about drooling over some hot character and hanging onto every word they say!

The read was filled with excellent conflict, passion and awesome intrigue. Definitely worth the read! Sylvia bring us more!!

My Sylvia Day re-read continues with Passion for the Game, the second book in the Georgian series, also known as my favorite book in the Georgian series. My memory of this series was severely lacking, but I did remember that Christopher and Maria were my favorite couple in it.

My faulty memory did manage to hold on to a couple of details from the actual story. One is the first time Christopher and Maria met. And the other... Well, that one has something to do with Christopher's appearance. His blondness, to be exact. I think I can say I've read the majority of Sylvia Day's books, and I've always thought that her heroes look alike. Tall, dark and dangerous, among other traits. Then came along Christopher St. John with his pretty blond hair. I was surprised. I figured Day liked dark-haired men, so her heroes always had dark hair. I found it quite amusing when the heroine acknowledged she usually didn't go for blond men. It made me chuckle.

Other than that, this pretty much felt as though I was reading the story for the first time. All the schemes, the extortions felt new. The banter between Maria and Christopher, which I loved, felt new, as did the sweet, kind side of Christopher. Their love affair grew sweet and emotional quickly, yet I remembered it as only passionate and full of games.

Maria and Christopher were pitted against each other by other parties with control over their destinies. Freedom of each of them was dependent on the demise of the other. The passionate game they played to get what they needed, however, turned into something much more. With two schemers like Maria and Christopher working together, the bad guys never stood a chance.

Some parts of the book were dedicated to Amelia, Maria's sister whom Maria was trying to find and free from Maria's evil stepfather. Amelia and her love for Colin, that is. It's the beginning of their story which continued in A Passion for Him. I wondered where my anger at Colin went when I finished rereading their novel. Well, I found it in this book. Over and over again.

I wish all the parts were about Christopher and Maria. They deserved to have the focus solely on them. My darling favorites.

Forget about Christian Gray.. Give me Christopher St. John. Oh my. This book is sizzling. Christopher and Maria are both "bad" characters that you can't help but like. Things look pretty dismal in the beginning making you wonder how it can all work out in the end. Especially when the plot really thickens towards the middle of the book. I will admit that for a short time, when more characters and complications were added in to the mix, I was very confused, but, it actually was easy to understand in the exciting climactic "sting" scene.

From the start Christian and Maria's attraction is beyond their control.. and that is what really throws the monkey wrench in to the plans of the others who think they can control Christian and Maria. The sex scenes are beyond hot. I liked that even though there was an element of "raw sex" in their relationship, Ms. Day manages to convey a level of tenderness and love on the part of both parties.

There are some other interesting characters in the book that it looks like we'll be reading about in the future.. including hot Irishman Simon, Maria's sister Amelia and sexy "gypsy" Colin Mitchell.

I am a major epilogue whore, and while this book had one.. I wish it included a bit more about Maria and Christian. Instead it read more like a "tease" for the next book.

Como sempre a Sylvia Day não me desilude!

Strange Grace⭐⭐⭐⭐3/4 (One Will Succeed, One Will Hang)

Story:
In a nutshell; both our main characters are being manipulated by other forces to go up against each other. Maria by her stepfather, who has hidden her sister Amelia from her for years. Maria can only do his bidding, marrying rich and give her stepfather the money she inherited when he later has killed her husbands. All she cares about is Amelia, and hope to one day get so see her sister again. Christopher’s reasons to this deal is more simple, an agent to the Crown has proof of his crimes and he can only get out of this by giving them another criminal. Either he finds proof that Maria killed her husbands which will get her sent to the gallows, or he hangs.
But of course this does not go smoothly for anyone. They are set out to seduce each other, only to find that there’s real chemistry between them. And both are suspicious of the other’s reasons to establish a connection between them. So how much trust can one criminal put in another?

Characters:
Christopher St. John made some colourful appearances in the first book, and I was not disappointed in getting to know him a bit more. And it was actually nice that there were less of a mystery to him than other male characters in similar books. Felt like I had a head start on Maria and could snicker behind her back when she assumed things about Christopher.
Maria is actually not a true criminal, since she never did kill her husbands but was manipulated into the marriages. But that does not mean she’s an innocent little flower. She will do whatever it takes to get her sister away from her stepfather, no matter the bloodshed.
And I have to say that I love that when Christopher just marches into Marias house and takes over, she shrugs it off and just kinda goes ”Fine, but if you hurt anyone I’ll kill you. So what do you want to talk about?”. I love her icy attitude!!
Amelia, yes she got her own POV, was the character I was most interested in. She has lead a very isolated life and does not have any close relationships. Except for the stableboy.. Need I say more?

Conclusion:
Fun and had an interesting plot line, but I never really worried about the end because Sylvia Day always delivers a somewhat of a happy ending, and it felt kind of like it was a sure thing this time. But there were a thrill in it nonetheless.
3.75 stars, yes that is not a typo. I liked this book slightly more than Ask For It, but not enough to be a 4 star read. So this is what option I’m left with. Looking forward to the next book that will be a continuation of Amelia’s story!

The heroine Maria captivated me. She's the first widow I like in a romance, I especially like that she could understand that what she feels for Simon is lust and what she feels for Christopher is much more. Bravo 👏🏻  Christopher is a pirate and he is diligent, I love that! The two have a great complicity when they are together, although behind their backs they are against each other in the fight for freedom..

So why didn't I give this book 8167171 stars if I liked the characters this much? Because there were parts of the book that really don't interest me and seemed to be just to fill. Amelia's love triangle is an example..how many pages could have been saved 😮‍💨
About Amelia, I believe that I didn't like her for some unknown reason, that or I'm just a cold person bc when I read the sisters' reunion my eyes rolled a lot..

Anyway..despite the cute ending, in the second half of the book my interest waned and I'm reviewing accordingly.

Historical okuma maceram Sylvia Day'in Yatağımdaki Yabancı kitabı ile başladı.

Sylvia Day beni yine hayal kırıklığına uğratmadı.

Sylvia Day can be a hit or miss author, in which sometimes she relies too heavily on sex to get her story across With her latest, she has hit her stride and to date I believe this is her best novel written.

This story has everything a romance enthusiast would want. Of course there are Day's trademark sex scenes but what the hero and heroine have is something more intense and passionate, more than I have seen in a long time from other authors who try and don't succeed. Here, Day does and I applaud her.

Maria is twice married and her stepfather who is a cruel and heartless man holds something over her head and simply blackmails her into his way of thinking. He basically killed her mother when she was younger and now he hides her younger sister away from Maria to get what he wants. Maria comes across as a cold shell of a woman because of him.
Christopher's life is a little bit more convoluted then hers. She catches his eye and he is now on the hunt to have her in his bed. Plus he is also being blackmailed and she is his victim.

When these two comes together in the sheets- watch out! Even with major trust issues between them, these two just want to be loved.

There is also a secondary story with Amelia, Maria's sixteen year old sister and her undying love for Colin a gypsy boy who works for her father. Their story is so sweet yet powerful in it's telling that I was finding myself reading way too fast to get to theirs more so than Maria's and Christopher's.

Overall and excellent feat of storytelling.

Again, Bravo!

I enjoyed reading the book but there wasn't really anything wonderful about it. I think that Day did an ok job with the romance and the background stories; probably better than she did in some of her earlier books. I feel like there is too much going on sometimes - too many characters she is trying to introduce and shed light on for future books. That would be fine but the main characters don't get enough development in my opinion; or at least enough for me to think it has the necessary spark. I didn't like that part of the Amelia and Collin story was told here and most of it repeated in total in their story. I liked Maria (Lady Winter) and St. John. Maria is a widow - her two previous marriages were arranged by her stepfather and he killed both of her husbands. He has Maria's sister Amelia hidden away - this is the bait he uses to coerce her cooperation and retain her silence related to his crimes. Others believe Maria is the guilty party. St. John is a pirate with a good heart. He has been arrested and is being given a chance at release if he can catch Maria. Maria is being given an opportunity for help in escaping her stepfathers hold if she can provide evidence against St. John. Instead of achieving the goals of others they set their own path and fall in love and eventually get married.

After reading it again I realised how much I loved the characters and the overall story once again. Sylvia is a master at creating the right amount of tension, angst and more making it seem more like being in the moment than a story. She has cleverly woven a tale that you are more than invested in the outcome and want to keep reading because you need to know what is happening with the wonderful characters.

Honestly, when i read the blurb, i was expecting a bit of thrills and guiles as two cunning players hunted by the law try to use and outdo each other, a story of lies and sex.

Instead, the story just petered along, with a lot of talk about emotions to other people, an obscene amount of overstepping while rather ironically, the characters seem to spend an awful amount of time away from each other, but have strong feelings that start practically out of nowhere. I just don't buy it, especially when this is stated as being set in Georgian England, yet absolutely nothing from the period happens.
Readable but slow and tedious...

I love Sylvia Day. The formula she uses works. This was a fun and easy read, nice and spicy, just enough plot to flesh it out a bit, good banter. It gets the job done. It’s nothing groundbreaking though, and some of her other books have been a little better as far as chemistry buildup between characters and plot stakes within the book. Overall though, I enjoyed this one.
