At forty-two, divorced mother of two, Nicole Adams, yearns to discover her true self again. Her children recognize the defeat and sadness in her eyes and she knows that her kids deserve to see their mother happy. When Nicole follows the suggestion of a friend to go on a spa getaway during a time that her children are away with their father, she does so believing that it might lead to the self-discovery she is seeking. What she ends up finding at the Cielo Spa & Resort is much more than what she bargains for. What she ends up finding at the Cielo Spa & Resort is Gavin Bell. Gavin Bell is a successful businessman who only cares about his clients and getting the job done—it’s how he’s always defined his life and it’s also the thing that led to the downfall of his marriage. But he hasn’t found a good reason to change his ways—it helps him to ignore any hints of loneliness or regret about his past mistakes. When Gavin’s boss and best friend sends him away to a spa in the mountains for a break from work, Gavin is anything but pleased about it. He decides that he’ll spend the time in his room on his computer working, but while checking in, he meets a woman that he can’t get out of his mind. Both deceived about the Cielo Spa & Resort by well-meaning friends, Nicole and Gavin find themselves amongst individuals looking for love—a fact that neither of them is pleased about. They’ll make the best of a night—or two, if a shared meal convinces them that an initial spark just might be turning into something more. *** The Forty and Free series features women finding themselves and love again. she wanted him....was too shy...wants to be with him...pulls away when he kisses her...is confused but wants to tell him about her kids...doesnt tell him...realizes she made a mistake but decides to go on a date with another guy. what??
I didn't really like the h. she was a little annoying. H seemed bitter but understandably. and he was just really putting himself out there to her, to the fact that he feels like he has found his soul mate.
plus there was nothing more than light kissing and hand holding. and the ending didn't even feel like a truly fabulous HEA. it was just like ok lets try. great. ok lets dance, the END.
This book was so good that once you start reading, you won't want to put it down. Looking forward to completing the entire series. Thank you Lila Scott! You have a talent for sharing love and compassion, through this perfect Storyline.
So cute this story above a divorced mother of two and a workaholic tricked into a singles dating hotel. Gavin doesn't stop working ever so his partner demands he take this vacation or he won't get the boards approval and Nicole's friend booked this for her but they didn't know what they were in for. Sweet and sad but cute
This book was ok, but really made no sense. The guy did not do anything for his ex wife- take her out, put her first,etc... but then he met someone new at a dating resort and can’t live without her... after 2 days. Kind of unrealistic!
I really really wanted to like this, but there was just so much miscommunication. Then the story just ENDED. They didn’t even make it off the resort in the story. I wanted to read the rest of the series because it’s so nice to read about someone in their 40s but now I’m unsure
This was a clean book where the female main character takes a trip by herself, for herself. She finds out that even though her mom bod will never look like her pre-mom bod. That she can be as hot and sexy in a different way, and guys will want to get to know her.
This book was a short and sweet romance, but felt very choppy to me as well. Things progressed entirely too quickly for my tastes, and the lies by omission weren't really believable as to why they were done in the first place. While I could easily connect with the heroine and even see parts of myself in her, the hero kept throwing me off, to the point where I really didn't like him much by the end of the book. Not to mention the ending was rather abrupt and left 15% remaining for excerpts from upcoming stories. I felt slightly cheated by that! All in all, it was a 2.5 star read that I'm rounding up as I did enjoy some of it, but I am really not sure I would continue the series. Perhaps if I could get them from my library or on a major sale.
While I liked the characters in this story well enough, I found some of their interactions and the premise of the story a bit unbelievable. What I liked most about it was that the two main characters were in their forties. That's actually the main reason I chose this book.
It wasn't a bad read - not at all. I just found it hard to believe that people their age would act the way they did in some scenes. I guess maybe love makes us all act in ways we wouldn't ordinarily act, though. I would definitely read more from thia author.
I enjoyed this book. Lillianna Blake is an author I love to read and while I have not read anything of hers with a serious theme this really surprised me. I loved the fact that the couple in this book were both closer to the middle of life (in their 40s) than we normally read in romances and I liked that they did not simply say yes and fall into bed. I look forward to reading more along the lines of this book in the future from Ms Blake.
This story started out good, then even though I did keep reading it, really taxed me, it could've done more to keep my interest. He was sent to a "spa" by his boss for a well-deserved and way overdue break. She sends herself to the same spa for the first time away, while her kids are at her ex's wedding. The problem? The spa is a place that actively pairs up its customers, something neither of them was aware of, nor do they approve.
This book was way too far-fetched for me. Both go from wanting to not date at all to hugging and kissing in one day? Fast movers for people so afraid to love again. Also they weren't very likable characters. Gavin had a bad temper and was a bit of a jerk and Nicole was not terribly honest. They did not act like people over 40. They acted like teenagers, very immature.
These characters did not fly for me. Everything seemed contrived and fake, especially a mom who in the beginning had so many strong feelings as that mom had for her kids. In addition, one scene went from a planned luncheon date to the girl noticing the moonlight, then sure enough they go have lunch! What???????
Far too short. This book didn't have enough substance for me to really get attached to the characters. It felt rushed and the editing was terrible. The character names were screwed up throughout the book. It could have been a really good love story, just needed some work
The romance in this book progressed way too quickly. Some of the lines were repetitive and too cheesy. I listened to this book on audible and found the narrators voice extremely annoying especially when reading male parts.
