There is a cruel, cruel cliffhanger at the end of this book.
So, we have a very evil bad guy, vampire, Patrick, who has a bunch of vampire minions that he made doing his bidding. In this world there are supernatural beings along with humans and their blood is extra tasty. Werewolf blood, we learn is nice and effervescent, but a little gamey. Sounds about right.

Patrick is a sadistic, creepy, a-hole of a vampire. Apparently, he looks like a young angel, but he gets off on torture, rape, and murder. So, be aware that there is some graphic sex and violence right from the start of the book. Literally, Patrick is Josie-Grossie immediately.

Patrick also plays favorites with his minions, and Jesse, along with his brother, Felix are the chosen special ones. Of course, this makes his other minions angry and jealous. Murderously jealous.

So, Patrick gives Jesse an assignment to pick-up a girl with supernatural abilities and bring her back for him to rape and kill. Just another day at the office for Jesse. But, wait, supernatural girl is special!! Why is she special? Honestly, that was what I had a hard time figuring out. Her personality was really blah. Wait, her name is Parsley! That IS special.
Parsley is meant to be protected at all costs!
Parsley is a waitress at a restaurant. She is so poor that her clothes are shabby. She is so shy that she constantly blushes and can barely get words past her lips. She is nervous around Jesse and her hands are shaky and she doesn't know what to say. How freaking charming!! Of course, Jesse immediately falls in love with her, who wouldn't? (Don't answer that question!)
Jesse, on the other hand, is centuries old, has sleep with millions of women, along with drinking their blood, hurting them, killing them, delivering them into Patrick's sick twisted care, etc... But, he's never met a girl like Parsley before! He must protect her from Patrick at all costs! He will die to save her boring ass!
But, in spite of Parsley's personality of parsley, I liked the book. The world is very dark and cool, Jesse's brother, Felix, is awesome, and the bad guys are seriously bad. I think that if Parsley got a little less dumb and stupid, I would be a happy camper.
(Did I mention that Parsley has never even been kissed?)

Wow, what a fantastic read! Exciting, romantic, sweet, sexy and down-right nasty, all set in an intriguing paranormal world. I loved it!

Parsley Walker has lived a lonely and tormented life. Possessing the powers of telepathy and telekinesis, she has been abused for her powers, and has spent the last few years of her life on the run, moving from town to town and taking menial jobs in an effort to stay hidden.
Jesse Linwood is a 300 year old vampire. Under the control of his sadistic vampire sire, he is tasked with tracking down supernaturals and humans with abilities and handing them over to his master so that he can gorge on their magical blood. It’s something he’s done ruthlessly and unflinchingly for centuries, but when he is told to find and retrieve Parsley, everything changes.
Jesse is drawn in by the quietly shy waitress. He begins to feel things he has never felt before and he finds peace just being in her presence, and for the first time in his life, he begins to question what he has been sent to do. Parsley feels the pull between them as well, and as they are drawn closer and closer together, Jesse has no other choice but to risk everything in order to protect the woman he loves.
This is such a great book. Yes, it’s exciting with action, romance and suspense, but it’s also cleverly understated. The writing flows beautifully, and the story sucks you in without being too flashy or OTT, and I was captivated from start to finish.
Jesse is one big pile of vampire awesomeness. Sweet and sensitive, he’s not afraid to put himself or his feelings out there, yet he’s also totally badass and sexy as all hell. He’s the complete package, and I loved him! And I really liked Parsley. She’s been through hell, and yes she has a weird name but I didn’t hold that against her. She’s smart, sensible and very likable, with a bit of badassery herself, and I really like the way she handles herself.
And together they are something truly special. There is an instant attraction, but the actual relationship develops slowly and realistically. They have some issues they need to deal with, but once that’s all out of the way, they are open and honest and totally functional, and the romance is beautifully swoony (and hot… don’t forget about the hotness!).
The book is written in multiple POV, with the story being told from both Parlsey and Jesse’s perspectives, as well as that of the bad guys, and holy hell, there is some sick fuckery going on. But damn, I loved it! There are some intense sex scenes (including a bit of m/m action) and graphic violence, but it doesn’t become overwhelming and it balances out the ‘gentler’ side of the story which is romantic and all about the feelings with lots of sweet, light moments. It's a great mix, and I thought it was really well done. And then there’s Felix – a brilliant secondary character, he’s almost scene stealing. I’m hoping we get to see lots more of him!
The story moves at a great pace but is really well detailed, and it all builds to an inevitable ending with a painfully nasty cliffhanger – though even if it wasn’t, I’d still be diving straight into the next book, eager for more and excited to see where it’s all going to go from here.
I loved it – 4.5 stars.

I burned out on YA/NA awhile back. I love heartbreak, but too often I get heartburn instead. Now, the few times a year I indulge in the stuff, I look for hidden gems like First Fruits. This lovely PNR is a quick, delicious read set in an imaginative universe with vivid characters, visceral angst, and intense action. There is no OTT dialogue, no TSTL heroine, and no unmotivated BS drama. Instead, we have a great love story between Par, a girl on the run, and Jesse, the man sent to bring her in. And hoo boy, we also have one massively evil villain pulling the strings--Patrick. Ewww. The first chapter is a giant lesson in showing, not telling, just how creepy that mo-fo can be. Bad news: this ends in one heck of a cliffhanger. Good news: book two is already out, so no waiting!

When I first started this book, I was expecting to read a typical vampire romance, filled with the same old tropes and the same old characters that run rampant in seemingly every vampire romance book out there. What I got instead was a dark and twisted tale involving a sadistic vampire master and his sons, replete with violence and the horrors that go hand-in-hand with sadistic vampire masters. There is a love story in the midst of this dark tale, a rather sweet one at that, that really aids in brightening the darkness of First Fruits, but at the end of it all, it turned out to be a rather dark tale. Which I appreciated immensely, since I much enjoy the darker side of urban fantasy rather than the bright and fun side.
Characterization is really where author Amanda Carney knocked it out of the park with this story. Her vampires weren't typical, her characters weren't cardboard. They were multi-dimensional, with each one having such a great deal of emotion and depth. Parsley, despite her oddball name, was such an interesting contradiction. Outwardly, she's meek and mild, easily embarrassed; inwardly, she's pure steel. Having been on the run since being a teen, survival and self-preservation are her motivations. Jesse, her love interest, is quite similar to Parsley in many ways. While Parsley isn't quite living, just merely existing, the same could be said for Jesse. His life is now dedicated to serve his master and he's existing merely to do his master's bidding. With one another, they've both found reasons to forgo their old ways, only they're still running because creepy Patrick, the vampire master, is out for blood.
While many similar tropes and themes found in the urban fantasy and paranormal romance genres can be found in First Fruits, Carney deftly manipulated them and put her own spin on them, making this a really unique story and definitely a series I'm looking forward to following. And be warned -- this book ends on a mother of a cliffhanger that left me on edge and wanting the next book NOW. Since that's normally the point of ye olde cliffy, I say nicely done :)

I really liked this book. I recommend it for everyone who wants to read an enjoyable story with roamance and some action set in a paranormal world. The vampires in this book have some interesting features.
The heroine, Parsley, is a young woman with special abilities constantly on the run, doing small jobs to survive. We get to know her as someone who has not a lot of experience with relationships, romantic or otherwise, but is smart and knows when to make hard decisions. She is quite the survivor and it was what I liked most about her. She always tries to make the best out of her situation.
The hero, Jesse, is given the task to bring back Parsley to his big bad Sire, Patrick, as his special dinner. Of course it will not come to that....I liked Jesse a lot. He has this serious air about him but still makes your heart melt when it comes to his beloved.
I liked the chemistry between the main characters, it was believable and not the instalove sort. Everyone is long past 16 so there are some hot scenes to look forward to. They also had the right amount of steam and romance mixed together.
The story was well balanced, it has the right amount of suspense and romance. The book ends in a big cliffhanger, that was not absolutely necessary in my mind but not unforgivable.
All in all, I really enjoyed this book. If you like pnr, vampires and some action you should definitely read it.

„First Fruits” is first paranormal romance I’ve read in a long time, and it was damn good choice! Amanda, great, great, GREAT book! I loved it from the start, mostly because telepath AND telekinetic part! I mean,
HOW COOL IS THAT!!!
I’d love to have that power myself :D
The whole plot was really interesting and engaging! I couldn’t put the book down, I was even reading it during work, on my phone, it’s THAT good. Parsley and Jesse are both very special people, she has those awesome powers and he’s a vampire. He followed her to kill her, but fell in love instead. I adored how he was with her… passionate, caring and tender (when needed!). Sex was another excellent part of story. Shower scene?! HOT, STEAMY, PERFECT!
And then, cliffhanger happened…
To sum up… 5/5 stars! Can’t wait to read more!

Different, but not. It's a paranormal romance, for sure. It's not too weighed down with sex, but it's there. What's extra nice is the fact that there is a very good story, and it takes the stage throughout. If you've ever read the Anita Blake Vampire Hunter series, you know that what started out amazingly good, turned to nothing but group sex and almost no story. I don't see this happening with Amanda Carney. There is real talent there, and it's based in a solid story.
Great book for discussion too, if you belong to a book club. Add this one to your lists! I'll be reading the next in the series soon.

Wow! Love, action, magic, suspense. Dark but inviting! I couldn't put it down! Truly not your average vampire love story. Parsley is brilliant, strong, has been traveling place to place trying to keep ahead of a past that's following her. Jesse a vampire made to serve, till he meets the one person that can change him entirely! But that doesn't mean their out of danger!!

I absolutely love this series, both books 1 and 2. If you like paranormal romance with lovable characters, you'll love this! It follows Parsley (who's a telepath) and Jesse (a vampire) and their story, with twists and turns! Book 1 does end on a cliffhanger but book 2 (Second Coming) is already out!

What a good book!
I found myself attached not only to the main characters, but to the secondary as well.
I have never read a book with that much of a cliffhanger at the end, though. Guess I'll just have to get the second book as soon as possible to find out what happens next ;).

This book hooked me from page one. It held a lot of the usual paranormal romance ideas: quiet girl falls for a vampire, finds out she has unique powers, bad guys come after them. What made this story unique was its execution and characters.
The writing style was amusing and detailed. The characters were flawed but lovable. The steamy sex scenes had me fanning myself. The best part, however, was how we got in their heads so completely. I was sucked right into their world.
The cliffhanger at the end had me checking for more pages! No! Why! Looks like I will have to pick up the next book ASAP.

The Pros:
- Lou, the waitress. She was so damn adorable and warm and cosy and motherly. I loved her. When she was on the page I felt like everything was going to be ok.
- The plant which the heroine considers a pet :

The Pros:
- Lou, the waitress. She was so damn adorable and warm and cosy and motherly. I loved her. When she was on the page I felt like everything was going to be ok.
- The plant which the heroine considers a pet :

5/5 Dark, sexy, and cliff-hanging stars. There’s no question about it.
Everything about this book just really worked for me from start to finish. I’m a huge fan of dark romances and the paranormal bump-in-the-night creatures and this book hits the spot on both fronts. Right off the bat I was able to jump into this world and feel very much a part of it. This is a debut novel that reads and has the makings of a best-seller. Amanda Carney’s writing style flows perfectly and gives just the right amount of imagery to keep the book-movie reel spinning until you have to force yourself to turn it off. Because it’s 4 a.m. And you’re still reading this book. Crap.

Our main characters here are Parsley (is that not the most unique and fun name for a chick, or what?) and Jesse. They both have totally different backgrounds and lives up until the point they eventually meet and paths cross. In this case, opposites not only attract - they create a beautiful avalanche of sexiness and passion that doesn’t stop rolling. However, everything isn’t sweetly frosted cakes and cozy crocheted socks. There is plenty of evil afoot and I don’t just mean in the form of a teenage girl armed with a smartphone. I’m talking major evil and some really messed-up maniacs.

Parsley AKA Par. Ahhh, what a breath of fresh air she is! This is the kind of girl you want for a bestie. She’s honest, intuitive (well, not naturally intuitive but still), hard-working, modest, loving, thoughtful (I’m looking at you overweight alley cat), and down right hilarious! I can see why Jesse would want to protect someone like Par and admittedly I found myself wanting to protect her at times. She’s the kind of person that everyone should try to be at some point but she does it without even trying. To top it all off, she’s also shabby-chic cute and innocently sexy at the same time.
Jess, oh Jesse. Where to begin with this complex guy who has a broken past and desire for a better future. First things first - he’s a vampire. Don’t automatically assume he’s your typical vampire, however. The vampires in this world do not sparkle, can eat (and who am I kidding - ENJOY) human food, and get this…have some pretty-freaking-awesome abilities. I’m talking shapeshifting, wall phasing, X-men type of abilities. The cherry on the top of this vanilla cake? Jesse leaves nothing to be desired in the looks department. Who doesn’t love a glass of tall, dark, and tormented?
“Because there’s one thing rabid coyotes love more than anything else.”
“What?”
“Vanilla cake.”
The villains and secondary characters are wonderfully built and written. They all tie into the storyline naturally and each serves a real purpose. While there is an abundance of baddies, there are those few who really shine and are there when help or advice is needed.
A point about this book that I’d like to make:
The editing was beautiful. I am extremely picky when it comes to editing errors in books. Even one error can really throw the game off but this book didn’t have any of it. It’s a rare day in paradise I get to say this but…this book was flawlessly written. You can tell the author and editor put tons of work into making this novel a well-polished piece of art.
Long story short - I truly hope more people pick this book up and give it (and this author) a chance. I will without a doubt be following Amanda Carney and reading what literary magic she has in store next. Especially the next book in this series since it's out already!

Well I did enjoy reading this book buuuuut I hated Parsley.
We start with a sadistic a-hole sire vamp named Patrick. Seriously this guy is nasty. He enjoys having sex with the male vampires he sires and he thinks of them as sons and they think of him as father. It's messed up. Oh and there was one time one of his "sons" Bane pissed him off so Patrick made him bite off his finger. It was graphic. Yuck. Anyways so this Patrick guy has one of his favorite sons Jesse go find this girl and that's where Parsley comes in.
She has been on the run basically her whole life. Which I will admit is sad. She hasn't really had friends and she has zero family, again sad. But does she really have to blush at everything? I think not. Blush a few times, okay. But I felt like I was seeing the world blush every other paragraph. It was getting redundant. Then the awkward, blushing girl straight out asks Jesse if he's asking her out. ... How does that happen? If she's this blushing little girl too shy to talk to anyone then how is she totally fine being upfront and forward with the guy thats making her blush?. It bothered me.
Okay so they "date" (he freaking takes her to her workplace) Jesse gets to know her and decides Hey I like this girl. Why does Patrick get to have her? Some other stuff happens but I hate spoilers.
Also CLIFFHANGER! I know it warns you about it in the blurb but heads up it's a pretty bad one. Over all though I did enjoy the book. It is on the darker side but still very entertaining. I will defiantly read the next book.

I had the honor of beta reading this book back in Jan 2015. Even though that was a long time ago, I'm guessing that I was one of the last group of betas, because the story was already very well put together and written so well, I'm sure it had gone through the editing process. I say all of that so that you know this book is worth your time and money. Amanda Carney is a very talented author. I truly hope readers will give this book a chance.
This story has some very dark elements, so be warned if you don't enjoy some dark, gritty, possibly disturbing things, including a few dark sex-related scenes. The world Jesse comes from is totally dark, but the one he is building with Par is all light. The way Ms. Carney wrote the story, the contrast made both seem so much more drastic to me. The grittier scenes seemed more dirty than they normally would feel to me, while the love developing between Jesse and Par was so much sweeter. There are also a number of interesting, unique concepts in this book that I really enjoyed.
I also liked that there wasn't unnecessary drama due to misunderstandings or immature characters. There were some instances where the story had the chance to go there but didn't, and I appreciate that from an author.
This book does end with a cliffhanger, but book two is already published, so you don't have to wait for the resolution. Give this new author a try!

This had potential. I think it needed a lot of fleshing out, though, a lot less reliance on tropes and cliches. The characters were nothing more than cliches as well. The main characters, the Virgin and The Brooding Rebel. Of course, there's The Whore side character who hates the main character for her pureness (or something?). And the bad guy, The Caligula.
The reason I gave this two stars instead of one is because Carney's writing ability in itself is good. And no lie, those sex scenes were hot. If you don't care much about plot and are looking for erotica, then this is worth the read. (contains: non-con, dub-con, violence, rough sex, drinking blood during sex and a lot of blow jobs- to give you an idea of the erotica content)

This book was an unexpected surprise. When I was done, I did not even stop, I just bought the next one and continued reading. I have to admit that this book has a very abrupt cliffhanger ending, but regardless, I think I would have done the same in any case. I have to admit that I prefer books without explicit ending as they give me hope that there will be more. I like at least a hint of continuation and unfinishedness (I know this is not a real word, but I like it anyway). Well this book certainly fulfills that requirement. Although, I have to admit that I might stop the second book at some agreeable point until the third book is out. The author is new to this genre (I believe she writes contemporary romance under another name), and so far I have only encountered these two books. I cannot wait for more.
The story is beautiful and complex, contains two main characters, several prominently featured side characters, and an array of less prominent side characters. The characters are well developed, feature complexity of emotions and interactions, and are situated in two worlds slowly built in details, one world being the regular human world and the other being Patrick's mountain mansion.
Parsley, the main character has special abilities and is on the run because of them. She lives simple life in a small town, and works as a waitress in a diner. Until the day Jess shows up, then her life becomes more exciting that she would have preferred. Jess is a vampire, several centuries old and hunts people with special abilities. He is cold and detached, until he walks into the diner. Sounds corny put like this, but the story is so well plotted that it is anything but corny. The villains are plenty, as are the good guys. Patrick, Bane, Kristen, Lou, Felix, just to name some of the more prominent side characters, and I am not disclosing which are good and which are bad.
The story contains explicit love scenes and graphic violence, however, I cannot imagine that such powerful emotions could be portrayed any other way. The author does not spare the reader of any strong emotions or incidents, so this book is not for the faint of heart. All in all, amazing story telling, opposing raw and ugly reality to the gentleness of Parsley and Jess' interactions and emotions. The strength of emotions that the author managed to convey is incredible. I am curious as to whether she will be able to continue her subsequent books in such a manner. I certainly hope so, as I enjoyed this book immensely.

Interesting twist on vamps and supernatural beings in general.
Try and give you the general scene.
The big vamp is Patrick who has an addiction to blood that is procured from other supes (ranging from werewolves, witches, wercats and your normal everyday supes to the ones who have abilities such as premonition, telekinetic etc). He sends put his 'sons' to find and bring these girls back to drain their blood.
Jesse is his first turned making him over 300 years old and his most reliable tracker.
Parsley is next on Patrick's wanted list and Jesse is sent to retrieve her. She is telepathic.
However this time it's is different.
Jessie feels like every time he sees her the ice block around his heart is chipped away. it's this use block that has let him do his job over the years without emotion.
The inevitable happens and Jessie finds himself unable to give her to Patrick and even calls his brother , Felix, who he hasn't spoke to in decades over the control Patrick had over Jesse that he couldn't find but Felix could.
They go into hiding. They seek protection spells from a witch. They seem to be doing everything ok....
Until Parsley decides she needs some fresh air alone while Jessie is asleep......

I have to say....it was a little strange the way it was written. It felt like I had to read to find out what was going to happen next but at the same time nothing jumped up off the pages. I'm not sure that makes sense!!!
All I know is, I was so sure I wasn't going to read anything that followed but by 3/4 of the way in I was hooked by the characters.
I think it's a marmite type of book!!!!

The gift of lending these marvelous characters a voice that rebounds deep into my heart. I reveled in the life given to help me fall hopelessly in live with each incredible and precious character within this deliciously dark and heavenly inspirational storyline.
What other book might you compare First Fruits to and why?
I would compare this book to Decadent Dreams by Nicole Garcia only with a wonderfully delightful paranormal twist. The both contain a deep and beautfil love that has to be found, fought for, and protected while overcoming a huge internal struggle not to mention relentless outside forces.
What does Lynn Norris bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Lynn Norris gives a raw and honest highlight to each impeccably developed character throughout this passionate journey. She offers a fiery determination and full heart as she brings beautiful justice to this incredible book. Her perfomance is absolute perfection and true decadence.

Great Paranormal Read!
A wonderfully written story full of romance, turmoil and a quest for freedom.
Jesse, a vampire with a very dark past is sent on a mission by his sire Patrick to collect a telekinetic waitress named Parsley. Parsley, who has been running from her own demons is intrigued by this new stranger, Jesse who is a daily visitor to the diner. What should have been an easy mission for Jesse turns complicated when he falls for Parsley instead, and his whole world is turned upside down. Now, they are on the run from Patrick on a quest to find a way to be free of him.
I loved the two MC'S! They were very unique in their own way and backed up with detailed backstories. The way the author wrote them made it easy for the reader to understand why they were the way they were. This story was also full of great supporting characters that lent a colorful array of situations to add twists to the main story.
Overall well written and full of steamy encounters that left me breathless. Highly recommended for any paranormal romance reader.

When I read this book I was not expecting things to end how they did! I'm impressed and in disbelieve at the same time wondering how on earth did the author pull this off!
Let me start off by saying that this book was really sweet because it reminded of young love that's really innocent. This book was really cute but had a sinister meaning behind it when it would switch to Patrick's POV. It was amazing to see the balance of young love and something so dark going on at the same time with different people in the book. That aspect of the book really had me on edge because you never knew if you were going to read about something evil and sickening or about Parsley's and Jesse's love story! Overall, it was a captivating book that always had something shocking happening in each chapter that never once bored me, especially that ending. If you want a good read that will make you pull an all-nighter, I highly recommend you read this book! You won't regret it!

I finished this book last night and I have been thinking about it all day. From the start of the story I was intrigued. The author created her own rules for vampires and supernatural beings to go with a cool storyline.
There were some similarities to True Blood with the characters, which I thought was cool because that too is a great series but the storyline was very different.
This book had action, suspense, drama, romance, sexiness and made me go through a gambit of emotions – happy, sad, shock, and at times I felt my heart pounding while my breath hitched.
This was my first book by this author and I am very excited to start Book 2. If you like Vampires, Telepaths, and witches with a great storyline, I highly recommend First Fruits
There were some similarities to True Blood with the characters, which I thought was cool because that too is a great series but the storyline was very different.
This book had action, suspense, drama, romance, sexiness and made me go through a gambit of emotions – happy, sad, shock, and at times I felt my heart pounding while my breath hitched.
This was my first book by this author and I am very excited to start Book 2. If you like Vampires, Telepaths, and witches with a great storyline, I highly recommend First Fruits

I love this book! From beginning to end it surprised me with its complex storyline and well developed characters that made me love them and care what happened to them! I started it at 10 the night I got it and stayed up to almost 2 to finish. I had to know what was going to happen next!
I recommend this wonderful book to any reader who loves vampire stories. The world that Amanda is building here is incredible and I can't wait to read more!

I received this book via profile books I think, and I said I would give an honest review.
I love reading paranormal books, and this was no exception. The characters and story line are awesome, looks like I need to buy the next book because I have to find out what happens.

Romance with a Bite
Truly liked the way this story flowed and it was unique. Kept you entranced on the main characters and had you rooting for them. Well made characters, magic, supernatural and action. I did not like the cliffhanger at the end and could gave been more if more was added.
Other then that a good read.

I was enjoying the story and it was a 4 star right up until the end - worst cliff hanger ever! I don't mind being left with a question or two and given the choice of whether or not to go on to the second in a series, but this was like leaving off in the middle of a paragraph. Just not cool.
