Having defected from Russia, Supergirl and Stargirl arrive on the Western front. In Berlin, Batwoman has to learn that she can’t fight every battle, while Zatanna consults her favorite rabbit, the former John Constantine. Meanwhile, Harley and Ivy race across France, taking on every Nazi they encounter.
This issue features Zatanna in a German Cabaret owned by the Joker's daughter (a very creepy character) where she meets up with John Constantine. This series only gets better!
This issue was so good! Joker's daughter? Super creepy, especially her teeth. Zatanna? Incredibly badass, especially in her song and afterwards dealing with the general. This series is genuinely really good!
The story is fun. The graphics are in sync with the vintage look but with a contemporary twist. Marguerite Bennett delivers a good story. Marguerite Savage set the bar for the illustrators (half of them men in this sequence) and the vintage look is never too much. I liked that all three stories of the original launch are moving along and that another one was added. I liked the whole women of WW2 angle being action heroes in every shape, shade and sides. I wait until I have a few episodes to read and sit and read all of them in one go. Then I wait again. But it's a good thing.
This episode introduces the fourth story line : Berlin, a club, a singer, Joker's daughther. Very Dietrich's Blue Angel in looks and atmosphere with a surprise guest cameo.
Holy shit! And I thought I liked the ongoing stories of Kate/Maggie, Kara and Kourtni and Diana and Mera!
NOW THEY INTRODUCE ZATANNA with an incarnation of the Joker's Daughter! Basically The Joker but genderswapped lbr, and THAT IS A TOTALLY COOL CONCEPT. This was probably my favorite concept out of all the stories tbh. Zatanna as a CABARET SINGER in Berlin under the Third Reich and John Constantine shows up as well. GOSH. I think it's really cool that once again we have another female pairing, albeit this time this one is less friendly and way more sinister. Still, way to go with keeping the pattern of women working together/interacting in this series!
As usual I'm reviewing the Print no 6 and not the e-version of number 6. But I continue to love this series. This comic had Merwoman hooking up with the Soviet girls. Catwoman propositiong Lex and Batgirl for a threesome, Wonder Woman in prison for refusing to kill prisoners and wonderful conversations between Zatana and Constantine (as a rabbit). Even though each episode is so short and there is little overarching plot this is still such a a great collection. Easily my 2nd favourite comic of the year!
