Blake Thomas’ entire career as a Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation has led up to this one job: submerging himself in a lifestyle of fast cars and even faster women. He’s deep undercover, building a case to bring down an intricate criminal ring of car thieves in Las Vegas, with no time to think about the one woman he can’t seem to forget. He never imagined his past would become tangled with his present, threatening to be his downfall.
Two years ago, Carly Mathewson planned for a one-night stand with a perfect stranger. What she didn't count on was being reminded of him every time she looked into the emerald eyes of the daughter they unexpectedly created. Since that night, she's devoted herself to keeping her life simple. But when her past refuses to stay buried, she's determined to do everything she can to keep it from jeopardizing what she's worked so hard to achieve. Suddenly, everything and everyone Carly has known aren't quite what they seemed.
Every present has a past. Before they can secure a future together, Blake and Carly are forced to admit that their lives are linked by so much more than just that one night. Without warning, they’re bound together for life.
Avid reader, writer, mother, and wife! I love to read contemporary romance. Add in a little "spice" or hot guys in uniform pants, and I'm a happy woman. There's just something about diving into a book and engrossing in the magic of your hero and heroine getting their happily ever after.
Overall Opinion: Meh. It was ok. A little less than ok if I'm being honest (hence the 2.5 stars vs. 3). I felt like the characters weren't really delved into, and I never fully felt connected with either of them. I struggled a lot with the pace of the story and it keeping my attention. It had some mild angst, but overall it was a pretty light read...which I know a lot of people enjoy. It just wasn't for me.
Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Carly and Blake's story. They meet one night and end up really connecting and having a ONS. They knew it would only be for one night, and didn't exchange information. Skip ahead 2 years and Carly has a daughter from that one night, and Blake is working under cover. They both have thought a lot about each other in the past 2 years, but can't really do anything about it. They bump into each other in an way that is related to his under cover persona, so it just complicates things. There are some sweet moments, some sexy moments, some family drama, drama with Blake's job...but they get their HEA ending.
POV: This alternated between Carly and Blake's POV.
Overall Pace of Story: Not so great. This was probably my biggest complaint about the book. The book showed their ONS in the prologue, but then took another 30% to reunite them! Too slow for my tastes, and I actually started skimming a good bit.
Instalove: Yes. They both seemed to develop instalove (with instalust) for each other that first night.
H rating: 3.5 stars. Blake. I liked how he stepped up being a father right away, and lived both the h and their daughter completely. He had sexual relations during the separation, but he never got over the h and was undercover so seeking her out was out of the question.
h rating: 3 stars. Carly. She seemed like a good mom, and to really care for the H. She pushed him away (for understandable reasons), but otherwise I had no big complaints...she was just ok.
Sadness level: Low. No tissues necessary
Heat level: Moderate. I actually skimmed some of the scenes as they were kind of boring (and somewhat repetitive).
Descriptive sex: Yes
Safe sex: Yes and no. Condom use for all encounters except one where it was forgotten (H does mention thane had never been without, but h doesn't say if she had or not).
OW/OM drama: Mild, see below spoiler
Sex scene with OW or OM: No
Cheating: No
Possible Triggers: Mild
Closure: This had some good closure and what I'd probably call a HEA ending (even though I would've preferred more of a jump into their future)
I fell in love with Blake and Carly immediately. The one thing I didn;t love was that it took so long before they finally met back up. I get it though in one way, it truly set the stage for the entire story including all the secondary cast BUT yet I was DYING for them to reunite selfishly.
The sexual chemistry, the genuine and pure love these two had for each other and more importantly for their beautiful little girl was just simply amazing and beautiful and OMG no words can describe the bond between the three of them.
Loved this story and can't wait to read the next story in line, Reid. I am hoping we get a book on Luke and tara as well in the future:)
PS Can I tell you how HOT it was between Carly and Blake. OMG I could FEEL their sexual chemistry straight through my Kindle, it was so sensual, erotic and just plain beautiful and sexy all rolled into one!!!!!!
I became a diehard fan of Lacey Black's about half way through the reading of her first book, Trust Me. With each of her releases, I became more and more devoted to this author's work. She just has a way with her writing of hitting all the must-haves on my perfect book list, and I haven't read anything she's written that I haven't thoroughly enjoyed. This book, however, was unlike all of the others she has written, and, quite simply, I was blown away.
"If I only get one night with this woman I want to be able to remember it for the rest of my life."
Carly and Blake meet in a bar. Carly is out celebrating her new job with her best friend, and Blake, an FBI agent, is out having drinks with his brother the night before he leaves his real life behind for a deep cover assignment. The minute Carly walks into the bar, Blake is completely taken with her. Carly and her friend join Blake and his brother for a drink, and they immediately click. They're laughing, dancing, flirting and enjoying each other's company, when Blake boldly asks her to come home with him. She surprises them both by saying that her place is closer, but when they arrive there, it's Blake that drops the big surprise of the night when he tells Carly that this night is all they can have, that he's leaving in the morning for a job. They share an amazing, life-altering night together, and Blake leaves the next morning before Carly wakes up having not even exchanged last names or phone numbers. A month later, Carly learns exactly how life-altering that night with Blake truly was when she discovers that she's pregnant.
Two years later, Blake is deeply immersed within the hierarchy of a large criminal organization, and while he hasn't seen or spoken to Carly within that time, she's never been far from his thoughts. Carly is haunted by that night, both in her thoughts and through the daily reminders of him when she looks into her daughter's the eyes, the same piercing green eyes as Blake's. She hasn't forgotten him or their night together, and she certainly hasn't moved on from it. But maybe now is the time for her to let him go, besides, it's not like she really ever had him in the first place...
"I just hope when it all blows up, we're strong enough to come out on the other side unscathed."
Surprising them both, Carly finds herself smack in the middle of Blake's case. Not only has she been the victim of a crime, but she's learned some shocking news that changes everything she thought she knew about her family for the last 20 years. Right as she is in the midst of having this long overdue conversation, Blake walks into the room stunning them both. Later that night that, though, Blake is one who gets the surprise of a lifetime.
"I'm here to stay, dammit."
Blake and Carly spend the next month getting to know each other and realizing that the connection they shared that night is still there, stronger than ever. But Blake is keeping secrets, things about himself he's told Carly that he can't share with her yet. He's asked for her trust. Can she give it? What will happen when the case Blake has been working on for the last two years blows wide open? Will Carly forgive him for his deceptions? Is there more danger on the horizon?
"Love is just a word until the right person comes along and show you the true meaning."
I loved this book so much! Lacey Black did a fantastic job with her first foray into a suspense-centered romantic plot. It was exciting, it was fast moving and there was a lot going on. She's no stranger to writing a steamy romantic relationship, and her skills definitely shine in this sexy novel. There are many reasons why Lacey Black is one of my favorite authors and all of them are on full display in this incredible book. This is Lacey Black at her best, at the top of her game, and it is, in my opinion, her best work to date. I can't wait for the next book in this series! Well done, Lacey!
* An ARC was provided by the author for an advance review with the understanding that I would review honestly. I have pre-ordered this book for my digital library.
This is the first book in Lacey's new series, Bound Together. I love the fresh writing and the interesting storyline. Blake and Carly have a one-night stand and neither thinks they will see the other again. Blake was about to go undercover so he snuck out without saying goodbye. But, he never forgot her. Every night he dreamed of her. Carly has permanent reminder of her one night with Blake, her daughter. While Bake is deep undercover in a very dangerous he sees Carly again and he has to have her. He isn't necessarily lying to her, but he can't tell her who he really is. She knows he's hiding something and when her past comes back to haunt her things gets tricky. Will Carly be able to trust Blake once she finds out who he really is? Can Blake live with just being a father without having Carly in his life? I loved this story. Blake and Carly are hot together. I loved the suspense, sexiness, the banter and the love. I can't wait for more!
That night, Carly and I kisses passionately, laughed joyfully, and made love beautifully. It was the perfect end to the night. The perfect way to end Blake Thomas.
“Fuck, I want you. Right here. Right now.” Blake’s voice is clipped like he’s barely holding on to his self-control. His need is written all over his face, etched in the depths of his emerald green eyes.
I received a complimenty copy of this book through Crazy Cajun Book Addicts for an honest review.
I'm a big fan of Lacey Black and her Rivers Edge Series so when I discovered she was giving us something new I couldn't wait to get started. Submerged is the first book if the Bound Together series and I loved it!!!!
Blake is an FBI Agent and is on his last night out with his brother before he goes undercover for his job. He meets Carly in a bar she is celebrating her new job and there's a sizzling chemistry between them immediately, they end up spending the night together but both are aware that, that is all it can be just one night but is it?
A fabulous debut novel to this new series, Lacey has a great writing style and always gives us great characters that just pull you in to their story. There's no cliffehanger and I'm looking forward the Reid's story next.
I would recommend this and I plan on actually reading the whole series. I gave this a 5 star rating cause it's a romance with some action thrown in the mix. It's an easy read with good details.
Submerged is the first book in Lacey's new series, Bound Together. I loved her Rivers Edge Series so I was extremely excited that a new one was releasing. Now, onto Blake and Carly's journey to love...
Blake and Carly had one amazing night together. That night changed everything. Blake didn't realize when he took Carly home that he would fall for this dark-haired beauty so hard. And in the morning when he had to leave her without even a goodbye, that it would be the hardest and most painful walk out the door. It was his last night as Blake Thomas, FBI agent before he became Blake Crisp, criminal. And two years later, he still misses her and dreams of her every night.
Carly hasn't forgotten her one night with a stranger and looking at the daughter he doesn't know exists, reminds her daily that she fell hard for that man. She doesn't know much about him but he took pieces of her heart and soul with him when he walked out that door. She knew it was only going to be one night because he was starting a new job, God knows where but she still dreams of him and thinks about what it would be like for their daughter to have her father.
Two years. He hasn't seen her in two years and she is now right in front of him in the most unexpected place. Why? Why now? He is submerged into this undercover investigation and so close to the end. He can't compromise the mission now but he also doesn't want to walk away again. He won't. And when he meets the little green eyed girl that looks just as beautiful as her mom, it hits him. He is a father. Her father and he will not let her go. But can he be Blake Crisp and keep his family safe?
The chemistry between Blake and Carly is still there. Hot as ever but they have more to think about than just hot as sin sex. Blake needs Carly to trust him without giving her all the facts. Carly senses something is off but Blake is exactly who and what she wants but when she finds out the truth will she walk away or stay? Can Blake, Carly and Natalia be a family or will Blake have to be a part-time daddy?
I love Blake and Carly! And of course I love their daughter Natalia as well. Blake and Carly are on fire but also sweet and funny. And well, Natalia is a little cutie with a good set of lungs.
Overall...Submerged is suspenseful, sexy, funny, emotional and sweet. It made me swoon, get hot and bothered, laugh and cry and the storyline hooked me in. I can't wait for the next book...the secondary characters are going to have some amazing books in their future. Yum!!!
Quotes:
That night, Carly and I kisses passionately, laughed joyfully, and made love beautifully. It was the perfect end to the night. The perfect way to end Blake Thomas.
He looks good enough to eat, and tonight, I’m famished.
“Have you been watching the Hallmark Channel while I was away?”
I adore Lacey Black and her writing. Her books are suspenseful, sexy, sweet, smart, intense, and have captivating storylines that suck you in from page one. I didn't know if anything could top my love for her other series but the Bound Together series has taken top honors for me. This is the first standalone book in this series and not one to be missed. Blake and Carly will have you on the edge of your seat the entire experience.
Blake is a man who lives for his job. Nothing can distract him from obtaining the ultimate prize... justice. He is an undercover agent on a mission, never making long attachments. The night before he goes deep undercover, he has a one night stand that flips his world upside down. She made him crave more and want more. But when duty calls, he bolts. Now, its been years and Carly is about to blast into his life in the most unexpected way.
Carly has always been a good girl but their was something special about Blake so she let her hair down. She expected him to go in the morning. It was the deal But their one night stand got complicated for her afterwards. Now her life is about to get twisted. And when Blake reveals his true identity and his secrets, who can she trust? And when it all starts to fall apart, she'll take a chance on the one man determined to claim her heart.
What an amazing series debut novel! Lacey has knocked it out of the park with this book, it is my new favourite by her!
Blake, a man living a double life, missing the one woman he can't forget. The lines are becoming blurred and when the one woman you've been thinking of for years walks back into your life but puts everything at risk what do you do? Blake is faced to keep big secrets while trying to solidify a future with Carly. However, Carly has a secret of her own. Blake and Carly's one unforgettable night together leaves them with a baby girl.
Carly has already suffered a close loss and has been deceived her entire life by those close to her. The man she meet in the bar years ago she never forgot, and she never moved on. She loses herself in her job and raising her daughter. But when that man walks back into her life Carly can not fight the connection that they have, but Blake has secrets. When those secrets take away the one person you thought you lost how do you move on?
This book was so amazing, the story line is fabulous and Blake is the perfect book boyfriend. I found this book to be very well rounded and perfectly written. I highly recommend all of this authors books! She is fabulous.
I was pulled right into this story. The story has laughs, lies, secrets, and heartbreak.
This is Carly and Blake’s story. It was supposed to be a one night stand. But the one-night stand is still in their minds years later. Blake is undercover trying to get justice but right before taking the case he is currently on he had the one night stand with Carly. Carly knew he would be gone after that one night she took a chance that left consequences. She is living and taking care of her. When Blake comes back into her life things spiral away from her fast. Things are not what they seem. Can she sift through the lies and secrets to learn the truth? In the end she will have to trust someone will it be the right person? Or is she putting herself at even more risk?
I felt I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read.
I'm fairly new to Lacey Black's books, thanks to Joanne who told me about Lacey's books when we met in Montreal. When I heard about this book I was intrigued and looking forward to reading it. Lacey did not disappoint.
Carly and Blake have a one night stand which ends up being so much more. She's been living her life with her unexpected but definitely loved daughter and he's been working at an undercover job that he's so tired of. Each wondering about the other. I sat on the proverbial edge of my seat waiting for their lives to intersect again and wondering what would happen. So much suspense and intrigue. I couldn't put this one down. I even had to call my book bestie to vent and throw some theories around.
arc copy. i was beyond thrilled to get an advance copy. I absolutely 100% loved this book. Blake and Carly's story will keep you on the edge of your seat, can't turn the page fast enough to see what is going to happen next. this book has everything that makes a great book....suspense, love, romance, hot steamy bedroom scenes. I can not wait for the rest if this series. thank you lacey!!!
I am obsessed with all of Lacey's books and the RE series was amazing. This new book of Lacey's had some high expections and ...... it fulfilled each and every one of them! Phenomenal ... i got so carried away i completely forgot it was the 1st book in the series and went straight to Amazon to look for the 2nd book in the series! I thoroughly recommend - you wont be disappointed
I don't know where to even start. This book blow me away from the first page to the last. This author is flawless everything just flows and no Errors. I've read every book by this author and I have to say this is by far her best work.
Well I liked it and it was different in some ways. Blake and Carly meet at a bar the night before he is to go deep undercover for the FBI, he is completely honest with her that he is leaving for a long time and both go into sharing an unforgettable night together and agree to part in the morning. 2 year separation but not on paper.
Both never forget each other but especially Carly because she becomes pregnant and gives birth to a baby girl, Natalia.
It's inevitable they meet again because he is working in her uncle's auto-shop while he works to take down his luxury car auto theft ring.
I liked how they handled their relationship and they were a very romantic and passionate couple. He was still undercover and while he didn't tell her he was working for the FBI he asked her to trust him and said he would be able to tell her everything eventually.
Of course he was not faithful while she was and yes, it was a one time thing they both agreed on but he was with a lot of one-offs who meant "nothing" to him. I would have preferred he been a little more selective and only had sex occasionally. But I digress...
Oh, and what was that with his mom looking down her nose about Carly, she said "what kind of woman sleeps with a man she just met?" OH NO SHE DIDN'T! Hypocrite, what about your son? Ok moving on, it was just one scene and she didn't act bitchy when they met.
Minor quirks: The undercover plot was the weakest and felt loosely pieced together, why weren't they suspicious when it was obvious Blake and Carly knew each other? Why wouldn't his bosses step in when he is involved with a relative of their target?
It seemed like her job was just forgotten after a while though her boss is the MC in the next book.
Lastly I would have liked to see how things worked out with her parents, I know he was going to jail but we never got to see them reunited. It wasn't a super short book so maybe she needed to wrap it up. The ending was kind of abrupt and I was left feeling like some of the storylines needed to be explored a little but not a big deal, I liked it.
First thing I did upon finishing was to check out the rest of the series. Two more novels and a novella, featuring Carly’s boss Reid, her bestie Tara (novella), and Blake’s brother Luke (and his childhood sweetheart Sidney). Most want to read Luke’s story.
Brothers Blake and Luke Thomas are in a bar celebrating Blake’s new undercover assignment as an FBI agent, to infiltrate a car theft ring. This is his last day of freedom before he takes on a new identity. But drinking and shooting the shit with his brother takes a back seat when he sees a woman across the bar.
Carly and her best friend Tara are also celebrating a new job. Carly is the new administrative assistant for Reid Hunter of Hunter Enterprises, and Tara’s older brother.
Luke is the one to invite the ladies to join them, but Blake only has eyes for Carly. Their chemistry is immediate and they play a game of whose place is closest, settling on her apartment. Blake is honest, saying he has to leave for his new job making this a one night stand, but that doesn’t dim Carly’s ardor. They make love all night, Blake disappearing before Carly wakes up.
They’re both left with the certainty that this could have been more than a one night thing. And despite the condom, Carly is left with a little girl with her Daddy’s eyes.
The night before Blake is set to go undercover he enjoys a last hurrah with is brother. At the bar he meets Carly. They seem to hit it off (wouldn't know since it was all an internal monologue by Blake) so they go back to her place to make the night even more amazing. Two plus years later Blake runs into Carly again but she has more than just memories of Blake, they have a daughter.
This book was hard for me. I got tired of each of them saying that they never forgot the other; even when Blake was dipping his wick in other pots he was always picturing Carly (just gross). I got tired of Carly saying she sees Blake in her daughter's green eyes, over and over and over again; I got it the first time. It was also frustrating that the first 30% of this book had them apart still. Most of that was all fluff that I didn't need to see and entirely too repetitive. I had to know how it ended so I skimmed to get through it but this story didn't live up to all the hopes that I had for it.
This book is a 2.5 stars for me. For a moment I gave this book 3 stars, but unfortunately it didn't do it for me. I don't really like to say something negative about a book cause I believe everyone has a different experience reading. But, for me, this book was exhausting. I wish there were more development between the two main characters and sometime it seemed like the plot wasn't progressing and it was really difficult to finish this book. That said, even though there were moments I didn't really like the main characters, they were cute together and I appreciate some of their traits. But overall, it wasn't a exciting book for me. I could point a few other things that didn't work for me, but like I said I don't really like to say something bad about a book.
P S: I:m sad I didn't like it cause I love books with babies.
I enjoyed the twists of the story how Carly a and Blake first met and in their one and only night together, she gets pregnant. Blake is off starting his new job undercover and out of reach. They had agreed to one night only and never expected to see each other again. But 2 years on, Carly shows up unexpectedly at one his meetings with his boss whilst undercover. He doesn’t know what the connection is between her and his boss but he decides then and there he can’t let this opportunity to reconnect with Carly pass. He discovers he has a daughter but as he is undercover, he can’t reveal to Carly his true identity and feels guilty about having to lie to her. The ending felt rushed when he finally came clean and with a small hiccup there is a HEA.
Submerged by Lacey Black. Lacey Black is a great writer and did an awesome job writing Submerged. Submerged is the 1st book in the Bound together series. This Read is about and FBI agent named Blake. Blake meets a girl named Carley at a festival one night. Carley was left by her boyfriend at the festival all alone by herself. Until Blake came along to the rescue. What I enjoyed about this story is the characters. The story was written about finding love, losing it, and being granted a second chance. This book is a rollercoaster ride if there ever was one. In the end, it is one of the best love stories I have ever read.
3.5 stars ... it was cute but-> Safety: H not celibate after their first night together... they had one night, he left her because of his job, they haven’t seen each other for 2 years, she got pregnant this one night and was celibate all this time, but he wasn’t!! He was sleeping with ow to “scratch the itch” and OF COURSE he saw the h’s face every time he closed his eyes while having sex... WHYYY 😩😩😩

I loved pretty much everything about this book. My only slight complaint was that after their initial hookup, they didn’t see each other again until 30% in and I was going kind of crazy by then wanting them to see each other again. But the minute they did, I was hung up on every word. I LOVED Blake and Carly together. They were magic. And even better was Blake’s interactions with his daughter. Which made me melt.
Carly and Blake are wonderful characters and I enjoyed their story. It was full of twists and turns with a lot of suspense to keep it fast paced. Loved their little girl, too. Highly recommend and can't wait for the rest of the series!
What a well written drama suspenseful romance read. It had everything and more. Love Blake and Luke and Carly and their beautiful daughter. Perfect ending for a fantastic book.
After a one night stand Blake walks away to start his undercover role. After 12months Blake accidentally meets Carly and her 12month old daughter Natalie . Blake cannot keep away from Carly or his daughter will this put his undercover role in jeopardy and what secrets will unravel in this process.
Wonderful book that I am sure I will read again. The only disappointment was not hearing Carly say that she was pregnant again. I loved reading the story of Blake and Carly. I hope to read a little more about them, even as secondary characters, in future books.
