Here is the second installment of the comic adaptation of the movie. Now, I'm not sure when the exact release date of this comic was, but at least it's in the month of when the film was originally released, which is still very strange even if it technically came out after the film's release date.
This issue contains the part of the film where I started to not like it. There's a point where this movie goes from great, to kind of stupid. And that is when the Alien/Human hybrid born from the Alien Queens womb shows up. I usually like stuff written by Joss Whedon, but this was just a terrible idea. I thought it was wonderful that he brought back the military aspect of the franchise, but then it painfully derailed at this point. The fact that Ripley kills it with her own acid blood in the end by having it sucked out into space, while Ripley feels very sorry for it was just plain weird. I really did like the fact that at the end they had some survivors as existed in Aliens, but this time they actually made it back to Earth. At this point I sort of doubt they'll continue with this plot line at all, because I don't think it did that great in theaters. At the time, I would have totally been down to see more of Ron Perlman facing off against the Aliens... but we'll never get that.
As with the first issue of the comic, it rushes through the story for the "shock" ending. It has way less impact than the film, as you'd expect. The Alien 3 comic adaptation was a solid three issues and it did a good job of conveying that film, so I don't know why they thought they could cram this into a two issues. Even "Newt's Tale" was a two issues, but it was a double sized comic that technically would have covered four regular issues. So, to cram this into two regular issues was a giant mistake.
I love how they don't even bother trying to give all of the characters her proper emotions or actual character, just pushing them along through every single major event of the movie. Then again though, I'm not surprised, considering what movie we are dealing with here. At least these guys don't pretend like they give a shit, so I will give them credit for that. But anyway, this series is over now, so what is the moral lesson of the day? Well, it's the lesson that we should all know and follow every single day....... don't watch Alien Resurrection. Trust me, you will be a lot better off not having seen it yourself.
