The Bible, in and of itself, is a miracle. Think about it -- over centuries of time, God supernaturally moved upon a number of men's hearts, resulting in them writing down the exact words of God. God then led His people to recognize these divine writings and to distinguish them from everything else that has ever been written. Then God's people brought these 66 books together. The preservation and survival of the Bible is as miraculous as its writing. Then God gave men technological knowledge to copy and transmit the Bible so that all people could have it. All of this took place because God has something to say to you.
With Foundations, you can read through all 66 of the miraculous books of the Bible in one year, while still having the flexibility of reading 5 days per week. Along with supplementary devotional content each day, you can experience the miracle of reading and responding to the entirety of God's Word. By using the H.E.A.R. journaling method, you will be guided through Highlighting, Explaining, Applying, and Responding to passages, allowing for practical application throughout the year-long plan.

Published in 2015 and reprinted in 2021, "Foundations" is a 260-day Bible reading plan for the "busy believer." Published by Christian mainstay Lifeway Press, Foundations was authored/developed by Robby Gallaty, Kandi Gallaty, and Laura Magness.
The Foundational 260 (or F-260 - not to be confused with a half-ton pickup truck) is a novel way to explore the main narrative of the Bible. This reading plan acts as an effective alternative to traditional Bible reading plans which require the reader to get through large amounts of scripture every day. The F-260 plan only requires the reader to get through one or two chapters daily, and does not require reading on weekends, thereby allowing the reader to catch up if they fall behind. F-260 does not cover the Bible in its entirety, but rather guides the reader through the main narrative of the Bible, hitting the most important highlights. So while you won't read the entire Bible with this reading plan, you will get the main gist of its content.
In addition to the reading plan, F-260 encourages journaling and scripture memory. The authors suggest utilizing the HEAR method for journaling, and a model for that method is contained in the book. The scripture memory generally consists of two verses per week. The authors also pose one or two questions that accompany each day's reading. There is space below each reading entry in the book if you would like to do your journaling in the book itself. While the full text of the scripture is not contained in the book, the authors provide a very short summary for each entry.
I have enjoyed working through F-260 and have found it to be an intentional and effective way to get through the Bible. It encourages you to think critically about what you read while revealing the meta-narrative of a very long (and sometimes intimidating) book. My Sunday School class has been working its way through F-260, though at a slower pace than the authors prescribe. It's a valuable tool for any kind of Bible study, Sunday School class, or individual study.
While one of the main selling points for F-260 is as a time-saver, I don't know that I necessarily agree. If you just read the text, it is indeed quicker than other Bible reading plans. But if you do the journaling, scripture memory, etc, I think it takes up as much time as other approaches (weekends excepted). Given that the additional activities are really what make this method effective, I would encourage you to stick with them, and they will certainly make F-260 a Bible reading plan that you will get a lot out of. Just know that this plan is still an investment of time that may be on par with other reading methods. But time in God's word is never wasted and is worth the investment! I am confident you'll find F-260 a rewarding journey through scripture.
I went through this with a group of friends on WhatsApp this year (2023). It helps to have encouragement. We did, however, slip and slide through some of them - Leviticus anyone? The Minor Prophets? Revelation? Five days a week are eminently achievable. Without pressure.
However, midway through the year, we discovered the Through The Word App. This made reading the Bible really accessible with additional insight into the text, which this book also included.
It is an easier way to work through the Bible, for those of us who struggle each year. We each chose our preferred version of the Bible (mine was the NLT) and I think that I shall revisit it again using the NIV.
I highly recommend this walk through the Bible and will now use the extended activities during 2024.
This is an excellent book, especially for those who want to read the Bible through and want a broad overview. I worked through this slowly with my Bible study group. I prefer to read the Bible differently, but appreciate that this book will be a big help to many.
15 months going through this with my small group. I think it lays things out and gives a good overview of the Bible. Though I know with this, they’d have to cut some things out, but were there were a few parts they cut out I was surprised by. Also the discussion points and reflections were meh.
Very simplistic format to get back into the disciplines of journaling through the key scriptures. Disciplines create habits that in turn create character.
260 Days which accounts for M- F for a year. Great way to read through majority of the Bible. My husband and I took a break from couples devo this year and really enjoyed this.
