Wynter Greene, newly minted Muse at the Mt. Olympus Employment Agency, is on loan for six weeks to Hades, CEO of Underworld, LLC. Not a bad gig, if she doesn’t mind running errands across the River Styx. She hardly ever has to clean up after the three-headed dogs that guard the front gates. But she could do without so many people eager to fix her up on what literally amount to blind dates from Hell.
All Wynter wants to do is get her six weeks over with so she and Phyllis, her talking plant, can go home, and she can go back to work inspiring people. If she can keep from screwing up on this job, she’ll get a clean slate at Mt. Olympus.
Stripped of her Muse title, Wynter discovers she still can’t stop herself from inspiring people, even when the people she’s encouraging are supposed to be trapped in eternal torment.

Ce n’est pas sans défaut, il y a des baisses de régimes mais tous les matins j’avais envie de reprendre mes deux chapitres ! J’avais oublié à quel point j’aimais l’écriture de l’auteur et son côté farfelu !!
I've been eagerly awaiting book two in the Mt. Olympus Employment Agency series by R. L. Naquin. I was so happy to see it released, and started reading it immediately. The series is about a girl named Wynter Greene who hits bottom and then winds up working at Mt. Olympus Employment Agency as a Muse. At the end of book one, Wynter Greene is sent to Hades for six weeks and I knew there would be shenanigans there.
Wynter is filling in for a gal on maternity leave and is basically a personal assistant to Hades. She runs the occasional odd task for him, some of which were amusing, like walking the three-headed dogs, or helping out with the book club meetings which I loved. Then we have the rest of the job which is normal things like answering the phones.
While this is a fun installment I was so happy to see a little more background on Wynter and her mother. This installment really fleshed out Wynter's background and did so beautifully. Another thing I was really happy to see was more face time with the Gods, book one we got to meet one or two, but I wanted more and I got it. I'm excited to see where this series goes, and can't wait for book three. All in all this series is a must-read if you're a fan of Urban Fantasy or mythology.
After breaking the rules during her job as Muse, Wynter Greene is sent to the Underworld for six weeks to work under Hades, CEO of Underworld, LLC.
I totally liked liked this better than book 1. Mainly because I thought Wynter was more improved -- she wasn't as blasé about her new temp job, in fact she showed some initiatives and proved that she could do her job well without too much whining. Wynter also showed could make friends when she tried.
In short, she was more inspiring than Wynter in book 1. I enjoyed her adventure there in the Underworld, even being amused with everybody trying to get Wynter a date, including that Underworld Speed Dating event.
I was happy as well, with finally finding out the truth about Wynter's bloodline. I was already guessing with her name (Greene) plus having a talking plant, Wynter must have something to do with Demeter. But the whole 'unknown father' of her threw me off. I can't recall a male Greek god that deals with plants!! It was entertaining to know now that Wynter's mom was Persephone herself (Hades was Wynter's step dad!)
I genuinely hope that Wynter will continue to progress as a character and to own her ancestry when she returns to the Muse department.

Holy Smokes! I meant to just start this book. You know, read a couple chapters and then head to bed. So, that didn't totally didn't happen. I stayed up entirely too late finishing this book because AWESOMENESS!!! I couldn't put it down, it was like a magic portal that just sucked me in and made me forget the time. I totally consumed this in one reading! And the twisty, turny, totally unexpected plot bombs? I never saw them coming. Of course, now I'm like, damn, I want more. No, correct that, I need more. *stomps foot* I have questions that need answered. *dramatic sigh* Okay, fine. I'll wait. But not patiently. Just sayin.
The thing I have noticed about this series is that there seems to be a lack of direction or any sort of overarching plot. The MC simply bumbles around trying to make her way in the world while dealing with some very odd circumstances. In a way I find this writing style to be refreshing. It's almost just like reading about what someone is going through in their daily life as opposed to nothing but non stop action/adventure scenes. It's quite nice!
At the same time it can feel a little boring, but only just a tad. If there was a bit more story line direction I would probably dig the series more. As it stands, it's still pretty good though! So it begins with Wynter going down to the Underworld to do her six weeks of service.
Naturally she's a little rattled at the idea of having to work there for an extended period of time but she hopes that it's not too bad, and it actually isn't. Working as an assistant for the big man downstairs, Wynter has a lot of interesting errands to run, which ends up turning into more errands when one of the main assistance goes on maternity leave.
Being the go getter that she is, Wynter does it all and then some. And not all of the "some" is good. Inhabitants of the Underworld strangely keep trying to fix the MC up on blind dates, and they all go terribly wrong -- how shocking! The real question is, why are people suddenly so fixated on her love life? And it's not just one or two folks trying to fix Wynter up, it's damn near everyone! What the heck is going on?
After some really awful dates, Wynter then gets shanghaied into a book club by Hecate, the Goddess of Witchcraft and necromancy. And the membership appears to be permanent. Yikes. So things aren't going the best for Wynter, but they could always be much worse. Speaking of which, her mother isn't doing too well. Unfortunately her memory is starting to slip more and more with each passing day.
Perhaps the best thing about this second novel is that we readers finally get to know what's going on with Wynter's mother and how she can be helped, and who Wynter's father really is. The mystery present in this book isn't very hard to solve once you think about it, but I still liked it nonetheless! The random creepy appearance of Terry really sealed the deal on Wynter's parentage.
Pretty much all of this series/story is due to Wynter's mom acting like a hussy and then being ashamed of her actions. And rightfully so! I have no sympathy for her on that part. She's a total airhead with selfish impulses, but things work out in the end anyway and everything gets fixed due to the power of love and friendship! Or something like that.
Honestly I wanted more of a beat down between Hades and Terry because I think that would be awesome! Sadly that doesn't happen either because of the 'power' I stated above. It was a bit lame honestly but I guess it fits the narrative better than an all out bloodbath.
At the end of the novel many things get resolved. Wynter finally learns about her family and what it all means. A new leaf has turned and things are looking brighter! I love the simple last few pages with Mark and Wynter just eating pizza in her apartment. That little slice of normalcy was quint and cute. The perfect way to tie off this novel!
As I said earlier, this is not the typical kind of book with an action sequence every other sentence. It's merely a mild and enjoyable story with mythological characters and a unique backdrop to keep it fresh and fun. With that being said, I will read the next book as I think this series is delightful and has massive amounts of potential for demi-god shenanigans!
Due to circumstances beyond her control,Wynter has been transferred to the Underworld. If she can make it through 6 weeks there, she'll be able to go back to Mt. Olympus and continue on Asa muse... but there is more going on than meets the eye and Wynter may learn more about herself than she ever could have imagined
It was cute. I am more a 3.5 rating, but 3 is too low. I still like the main character, and it was nice to see her explore the family relationships. This book focused much less on the 'job' aspect, so I look forward to future books having her bumble along.
This continuation was enjoyable. We finally get some answers about Wynter's heritage. And is that a cool name or what? And the tale leaves room for potential romance.
I chose this book because it looked interesting and was available in the Kindle Unlimited list of books. I'm really glad to that I did. I did have to buy the first of the series and read it first, but each book does stand alone.
The best part of this story was the main character, Wynter's growth and how funny and clueless she is about, well, everything! I really enjoyed watching her make her way thru the Underworld and getting lost on the way at first. I also enjoyed her dating disasters. They were hilarious. Not to spoil anything but her final revelation as to who her parent that was a God was was awesome!
If you want a fun, magical, and funny book I'd suggest this series in a heartbeat!
"Unamused Muse" is the second novel in the Mt Olympus Employment Agency Series by R.L. Naquin. Wynter just started her new job in the Underworld and she's already off to a rough start. Between being given bad directions, a golf cart that needs to be charged all of the time, and a number of other slightly alarming events on her first day, she wonders if she'll survive the six weeks or die trying. Overall, this was a fun read. I really enjoyed this novel and can't wait to find out what's next for Wynter.
Light and frothy fantasy, a quick read. Muse Wynter Greene is temping in the Underworld for six weeks. Lots of amusing characters and, of course, Wynter gets herself into several scrapes. I enjoyed the author's reimagining of Hades and am looking forward to further books.
Wynter is banished to the Underworld for six weeks. Upon her arrival, she learns that she will be taking over for a woman who is on maternity leave and she will be a personal assistant to the head of the Underworld itself, Hades. Her many tasks include walking the three-headed guard dogs and helping find fresh reading material for the Hags of the Underworld book club.
I must say the Hags of the Underworld book club was quite entertaining. I loved how she went up against the most powerful witches and actually won against them. It was a first for them to have anyone say anything remotely against them but Wynter seemed to have won this round.
Wynter's character was more fleshed out in this book. She seemed more the person who was embracing her role rather than how we first met her - nonchalant about the direction she was going in life.
Another bonus to this book is we learned a bit more about Wynter and her mother, Persephone. I honestly was surprised to find this out especially when the first book kept throwing out there the "unknown father" every chance it got. And even more, we learned exactly what the cause was for Persephone's odd behavior.
I am going to be honest. I actually thought the father was Bacchus. I know he is not entirely like Demeter in the way of nature but he does have a way with the plants. I mean if you stop to think about it he is the God of Wine, which is from grape vines. Okay so that might be different but if you stop to think about it it sort of made sense. I just was not expecting Persephone being the Goddess-mother. That sort of threw me off.
I really hope Wynter's character continues to develops more when she returns to the agency.
This one was a bit forced. The climax was poorly unsolved, I expected a war between Hades & Demeter, and Wynter's mom real motive of leaving Hades was pretty unclear. Again no serious romance just focused to the protagonist's problems.
