4 stars for the ideas, but this guy writes like a business major (read: not well). His quotes are all over the place from general authorities to business gurus to Kung Fu Panda, and rarely enlightening. He's often patronizing, and I find his logic shaky sometimes. Nonetheless, I was looking for an LDS perspective on morning routines, and this fits the bill. I especially liked his ideas on how to wake up without hitting snooze.
The latter day morning is a book that every person should read and follow. It doesn't matter your religion or belief. It has made me a better person, happier and I look forward to my mornings now. Coming from somebody who has been a night owl his whole life, now enjoys waking up to the steps I learned in latter day morning. And by day 15 waking up without an alarm.
I really liked a lot of the ideas and suggestions in this book. However, as a Certified Health Coach I cannot completely agree with expecting people to get by on only 6 hours of sleep a night. Most people require 7-8 hours of sleep. Also I believe that some people are naturally early birds or night owls and would not do well forcing themselves to get up so early. I also think it is healthier to eat breakfast within 30-45 minutes after waking to get a person's metabolism going. That being said, I have adapted the suggestions into my own routine that works for me. I have not been able to get all of it done within an hour yet.
This book had plenty of good points concerning a topic I've been working on lately. It covered points I had already worked on but also gave me lots of ideas i hadn't. I found the author used "shoulds" and "need tos" more than I appreciate seeing. However, he gave many ideas and options to try and provide encouragement for a broad variety of people. And honestly, while I reflected on several stages of life where this book would be problematic, I could also see many ways to try and fit the recommendations to daily life. I sound like I am complaining, but it is a good book for ideas to making your morning change the rest of your day. It's a thorough book for beginners and experienced people alike. A very affordable guide to turning life around by turning that first hour of the day around. I do recommend it.

Mark did a fabulous job putting together a routine to help you get the most out of your mornings and to improve spiritually, personally, and physically. As I write this review in 2017, I'm thinking that perhaps I need to revisit this book, because while I've never really been a morning person, my anti-morning self has recently been at an all-time low (high?)...
I have very much been struggling with my ability to feel like I have accomplished anything lately, this book-by following what is inside- has helped me over come this feeling. Now I just hope that I can continue to follow this routine life would be awesome!
I've tried to be a morning person my whole life. It still hasn't happened, but this was a good read. Maybe when my kids are older, I'll pick this one up and try again.
This was a great read, I am one of the 38% who hit the snooze button many times, and moving my alarm doesn’t do me any good as I really am not bothered by the noise, I have a horrible time waking up. I usually wake up just in time to work, I work from home. No time for anything else. I really love the ideas, the steps to make my mornings more successful. I am not sure if that will happen. But this guide has some wonderful ideas and a way to make you start and learn a new habit. I know it will take me longer to get my mornings under control but I think this book will help me out. I love the routine of the ten-minute morning and also making time for the scriptures and exercise. The one thing that bothered me was he didn’t really say anything about people who work shift work. I don’t start my day early in the morning but later in the day, and I also can work nights, hard to wake up early when you haven’t even slept 8 hours yet. If I were to wake up at 7am, I would probably fall asleep working because I am tired. I loved his quotes about starting the day early but not everyone’s life can be the same. I know I can fit the routine to work my schedule but would have loved for him have factor that in the book, or at least mention because not everyone can wake at the crack of dawn. That would be my only negative on this book. Yes, it is great to rise and shine bright and early but it isn’t for everyone. The good part is I can still make a routine and start waking earlier to spend time with Lord and studying the Scriptures, meditation and everything else in the book. This will make my do go much more smoothly. I am starting with one step at a time, well two, getting up when my alarm goes off is my first step. This is a fantastic book to get you a good start and make your Latter-Day Mornings much more productive and to feel better during the day.
The Latter-day Morning: Create a Happier, More Successful, Spiritual Life Before Breakfast by Mark Bacera is a great book that teaches you how important it is to start your day with positive habits. I have read several times recently that a good morning routine will help you on your way to success. Mark Bacera shows us exactly how to make such a routine work and soon become a habit. Forget the snooze button and get up earlier and get your day going right. You just need to start with ten minutes. Soon, you will look forward to getting up earlier and before you know it, an hour will be easy. Once it becomes a habit you will notice how much better your life is. Get the physical, mental and spiritual parts of you off to a good start each day. I recommend this book to everyone who wants success and happiness.
I was initially sceptical thinking I had a decent morning routine and knew what I needed to do better. I am so glad I read this! The first thing I want to do is read it again. It is well written with great quotes. Best of all is the encouragement and down to earth approach of the writer. I've started a few of the items on his list recently and seen huge improvements. Now that I've read this I can't wait to experience even more. Mark has broken things down in such a way as to make it easy to understand and do with hints on how to keep up with it. I highly recommend this book to anyone who feels overwhelmed, discouraged, and especially those who feel too busy to enjoy life anymore.
I have felt the power and healing that comes from a morning routine off and on for years. I recently have made it a top priority and figured that The Latter-Day Morning would be a good supplement to my education in this area. It sure has been! A great read that really spoke to me. I've added a couple of simple suggestions from the book to my routine that have already enhanced my life. I like that the author encourages readers to modify the routine to what works best for each individual. I was also excited that music was mentioned because I find the right music brings solace to the soul. What a bargain for Kindle at .99! I would buy it in print if it were available.
This book has truly inspired me to make my life better. I feel fresher when I get up in the earlier hours of the morning and take time to grow closer to the Lord as well as to myself. My journal has never been more consistent! And prayers never so thoughtful and meaningful. I highly recommend this book to ANYONE who wants to change their life - whether they are religious or not, it applies to everyone.
While I don't think that this book can help all individuals, I can see the merit in what he is doing. I'm not much for meditating or essential oils but I can see why he recommends learning to calm down the body and mind and learning to make the most of the mornings before you embark into a chaotic world.
Pretty good book. I don't read a lot of self help books but I really hate my morning routines. Definitely a motivator to try and improve. Not the biggest fan of some of his stories and his style of writing. Good ideas though.
This is an excellent description of a daily program for improving your life. I can't follow it exactly as he suggests due to my schedule at this time, but I definitely want to incorporate pieces of it in my daily routine.
