Kommer du tycka om mig nu? is, without a doubt, a book everyone will be able to identify with. It's about feeling like an outsider, about not fitting in, and self-discovery.
To be fair, I knew close to nothing about the author. Here's what I knew about her: she's been on television. That was it. I remembered her name and that it had been mentioned on TV, but I couldn't remember in what context. A quick google search gave me this: She was the principal (or Headmistress, if you'd like) at a school where only 55% of the students had grades that would not qualify them for high school (or gymnasium, as we call it in Sweden). The school was known for troublesome students and it had a bad reputation. Three years later, that procentare was 75%.
Color me intrigued. I still didn't quite know what to expect from her story. I expected it to be about those years at the school, but in truth this is the story of four different stages of her life. First, it's her as a child, struggling with her identity and other's perception of her. Second, it's about her struggles with fitting in in her teens, due to several reasons. She had troubles learning, and was more or less told she couldn't do better. Third, it's about her after her years at university, her first job, and realizing what she actually wants with her life. And, lastly, it's about her years at the school.
It's a fascinating story. Her determination as a young teen to get good, no, the best grades. Then, as she grows, her determination to be true to herself and with others. It all comes together in the end, during her telling us about the years at the school. These pieces of her story shows how her youth and early adult life shaped her, what her motivations are and come from. Let me just say this: I admire this woman. I'm practically in awe of how strong she is.
Because, another thing that permeates this book is the frustration and longing. As a child and teen, she has a goal: the future. In the future, she's going to live. She's going to be herself. She'll be what she wants to be, without people questioning her. But that's always in the future, after years of school when she's able to make decisions on her own, as an adult. And when she reaches the future where she can make her decisions, even if people greet her openly with what she wants, there are still obstacles that postpone her future further, and she's left wondering if she'll loose her early twenties, a time she thought she'd be happy in.
Kommer du tycka om mig nu?, while inspiring, could also have done with better editing. While the story itself is fascinating, the structure and writing style wasn't as good. Jumping between the four parts back and forth got tiresome (especially when some of them started to overlap). Perhaps it's a bit drawn out too (which could've been solved by another round of editing). But this is my only complaint, and it's a rather small one seeing how others might find this structure a good choice for telling this story. In the end, the book's message makes up for the, at times, stilted writing.

Fascinerande berättelse av en person med ett enormt driv, där inget verkar vara omöjligt för att nå målen eller ”sitt framme”. Annorlunda grepp med en berättelse som vävs fram av fyra personer under olika livsavgörande tidsepok. Dock är boken lite väl lång, och med en del upprepningar som drar ner betyget något till en svag fyra.

Det jag kommer att ta med mig från den här boken är framförallt en större förståelse för vilken kraft det för somliga är att sätta upp tydliga mål att jobba mot. Är själv absolut ointresserad av mål, och det har inte ändrats av den här läsningen, men jag tror jag förstår målinriktade människor aningen bättre nu.

October 4, 2016En helt fantastisk bok som jag sträcklyssnat. Sorg över de svårigheter hon gått igenom blandas med stor tacksamhet och glädje över att leva just här just nu.

Först tyckte jag att det var lite jobbigt med "fyra personer" som lät så lika varandra, men sen ihop med att jag kom längre in i boken så blev karaktärerna lättare att "skilja på" och historien mer och mer intressant. (Och sen fattade jag hur allt hängde ihop, så jag kanske ska läsa baksidestexten lite noggrannare nästa gång...)
Jag föredrog vissa kapitel framför andra, men det berodde på vad som skedde och inte personen. Vissa var intressantare och hade något som jag inte läst i andra böcker, vilket gjorde det roligare att läsa. Däremot tycker jag inte att "det mindre intressanta och delarna som jag läst förut" var varken dåliga eller tråkiga, utan de var bara inte lika annorlunda och intressanta som de andra.
Så, efter att fått tänka lite, då jag inte kände "den har det här betyget" på en gång, så kom jag till slut fram till att boken var nog himla bra ändå. Bättre än förväntat, och bättre än jag tänkte under läsningens gång.
Nu i efterhand, när jag läst ut boken, så kan jag till exempel uppskatta skrivsättet och även hur hela boken var uppbyggd. När jag var mitt i den så var det lite svårare, men nu förstår jag allting och då jag är jag lite imponerad.
Något annat, som inte egentligen är en recension av boken, utan mer en tanke.
Jag blev inspirerad av att läsa "Kommer du tycka om mig nu?", dock låter det nog väldigt klyschigt i mångas öron. "Alla blir ju alltid inspirerade av biografier". Men jag blir inspirerad av människor som är drivande, som vet vad de vill och som kämpar och kämpar tills de når sitt mål, trots att det kommer många motgångar och felsvängningar. Delen om rektorsjobbet var den biten som inspirerade mig mest; inte till att bli rektor, utan till att försöka, stå rak i ryggen hela vägen, våga säga sin åsikt och våga hålla fast vid den.
Lina Axelsson Kihlbom är en jäkligt inspirerande person. Det finns mycket att lära av henne.

En mycket bra bok. Upplägget med att dela in sitt liv i fyra tidsperioder och sedan låta den hon var i varje ålder parallellt berätta historien var mycket bra och gav en stark påminnelse om att vi är den vi är på grund av allt vi upplever i livets faser. Att sedan Linas liv varit ovanligt händelserikt och en stark resa gör så klart boken till den otroligt läsvärde berättelsen den var.
Språket kan kännas lite torftigt, det är som ett långt sommarprat på P1 på många sätt, beskrivningarna är inte så bildliga, språket i sig är inte medryckande vackert, men berättelsen och hur den berättas är mycket mycket bra. Och inspirerande!
Efter att ha läst den här boken känner jag sådan lust att gå ut och bli aktiv i samhället och hjälpa till att kämpa mot orättvisor och stelbent motsträvighet, att få fler att tro på sig själva och sin egen kapacitet. Boken kanske är 5 stjärnor ändå..?

En fantastisk bok. Rekommenderas men läst den direkt utan att läsa om författaren. Då blir boken en nyfiken resa.
