I remember hearing that Marvel and DC once did a cross over event. This is a crossover event of Star Trek and Green Lantern. It's interesting as they both have elements in common. They are both set primarily in space and they both have very weird looking space aliens with them. They also both use a team so it works well together.

It's a silly story really, but it is interesting to think what the 2 worlds would be like when they collide. We get almost zero character development in this volume so we miss how the characters might really react to this crossover. It's all about action and character be damned. I find that a shame.

I thought it was an interesting idea and I am a Star Trek fan. Green Lantern is still a little weird to me. I haven't found my way into the story yet. This doesn't feel connected to either world. It seems to be a unique event. The lanterns were pulled out of their own world and brought into the Enterprises world and they stay there and are not sent home.

An interesting book for Sci Fy fans.

This book didn't quite work for me. Pretty much every Lantern of each color appears in this book. There has to be at least 20 characters in the book that have to share page time. It's way too many characters for any real plot development.

The Enterprise finds a ring of each color, they get shared out to Star Trek characters. Original ringslingers pop up and show how to really use the rings. Stop the big bad. Story over.

This was a crossover this reader did not see coming but upon reading it, what some people would think as glorified fanfic actually works pretty well. Everybody knows that peanut butter and chocolate go well together, but this was so unexpected by surprisingly delicious like a dash of Worcestershire in your scrambled eggs.

One reason it worked so well was probably because of the story planning involved. This Star Trek crew and likenesses are from the Kelvin timeline of J. J. Abrams' 2009 movie and the Blackest Night event from the Green Lantern library, which is one of best written and received epics of late. It works because it actually showed us how a Klingon, a Romulan, and a Gorn would act upon receiving one of those magic rings.

It also helped that writer Mike Johnson was able to keep his story coherent. Artist Angel Hernandez did a pretty good job of maintaining the likenesses of movie charatcers while giving his line art some superhero dynamism.

I first learned of The Spectrum War after reading (and not enjoying) the Batman / Shadow team-up called The Murder Geniuses last month. This ST / GL attempt fared a little better, combining the Silver Age's Hal Jordan with the silver-screen's rebooted U.S.S. Enterprise crew.

So the artwork was colorful (plus the illustrated 'Trekkers' often resembled their film actors) and the dialogue, at least early on, humorously made references to familiar things in the original '66-'69 series. However, the story was ultimately not as exciting as I expected it to be and seemed sort of thin. It was kind of like an otherwise undistinguished episode of an established TV series.

*I received this book as an eARC from Diamond Book Distributors and IDW Publishing in exchange for an honest review*

I am a big fan of Star Trek. I grew up watching Voyager and I am very familiar with all things Trek. I've read some of the reboot film comics, but I haven't kept up with them. Green Lantern on the other hand, I know very little about. I've seen the film. I know some of the history of the Corp, but I am definitely just a casual consumer when it comes to Green Lantern.

In this graphic novel, your really only need to be a casual consumer of either franchise. Anything that needs to be explained is explained. Obviously, you'll enjoy it more the more familiar you are with either franchise.

The rings from the Green Lantern universe make their way into the Star Trek world. With them, comes some characters as well. When the rings arrive, they find new bearers. Many of the Enterprise crew get rings that match their personalities. Unfortunately, so do villains. General Klang the Klingon makes an appearance. There are also appearances from the classic Star Trek races Gorn and Romulan.

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this comic. It is done really well. It's a fun, high energy story with great characters. I give this graphic novel a 4/5. If they continue this crossover series, I want to read the next volume! My favorite image was Hal Jordan, the Green Lantern, sitting in the Captain's Chair of the Enterprise.

This was so good!!

I remember reading it in high school but now reading it again and it makes for such a great experience! It starts with rings appearing on Enterprise and different members powering up but then we have Hal arriving and explaining what had happened on their reality and how Nekron won and Blackest Night took over. Then we have Red, Yellow and Orange rings go to Glocon, Decius and General Chang of Klingon and they ally themselves with Atrocitus, Sinestro and Larfleeze and its an all out war between them and this new crew plus other ring bearers alive but Nekron has raised the Vulcan empires and will this reality survive the threat of death incarnate and finally will the life entity be unleashed or not?!

Its an all out war between these two factions and I love the story and how it came about like its so natural the way its done and finally the whole thing with the villains from GL allying themselves with villains from here was so cool to see and then when they all battle each other and the art that follows is marvelous and the coloring makes it so good to read. Probably one of the best panels and I like the whole thing with Spock too and how emotional it was for him. Great volume and sets up great things to come in the future! One of the best volumes and crossovers there was!

Star Trek meets The Green Lantern? That is just too wacky not to read it. The Star Trek reboot crew finds some rings, activates them and everything goes Kaboom. Lots of fighting amd action.

Fun, fun, fun. I only know that fairly bad Green Lantern movie with Ryan Reynolds, so I don't really know much about that whole Lantern thing. It's a bit silly, but ok. Ring bearers defined by emotional states, good and bad guys without variations and no grey areas, all pretty predictable. Uhura gets the girly ring, Bones the compassionate one... I get to see the Star Trek crew, so I am happy enough.

Racy plot, great artwork, I like it. Not everything made complete sense to me, but generally a story well told. I would read the next one, it has potential.

I received this free copy from the publisher/author via NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review, thank you!

Perfect crossover

The Star Trek/Green Lanterns are perfect characters to crossover. With their experience space, exploration, and conquest?

The universe is about to be destroyed. The last of the Guardians plays a final gambit. The limited numbers of rings and surviving ring bearers find themselves in the Star Trek universe. The "good" emotion rings find bearer from the Enterprise crew, but the rings run by darker emotions will also find like-minded individuals in this universe. However, this might not even be the biggest threat.

Great artwork, great story, lot of action, and awesome characterisation. I think all members of the characters from both universes have a chance to shine. The book finishes with an art/varient cover gallery.

This was really pretty cool. I thought it was a good mix of the universes. The rings, the crew of Enterprise, the Lanterns. It was put together well.

And the (self-contained) story was engrossing. I thought it interesting that they used the current movie crew as the basis for the look of the Enterprise crew. I guess it makes sense, but I wasn't expecting it. I guess this would sort of be an Elseworlds story - or at maybe a possible future, like The Dark Knight Returns.

Worth reading - especially if you're a fan of DC comics and Star Trek, so you're familiar with each universe. A sequel would definitely be interesting.

Thanks to NetGalley and IDW Comics for a copy in return for an honest review.

Being a fan of Star Trek and Green Lantern, I had to check this out. Great fun seeing characters from the two franchises interact - Hal Jordan, Captain Kirk, Atrocitus, Mr. Spock, Kilowog - you get the idea. The method used to get the Lanterns into the Star Trek universe stuck me as pretty plausible, as did the final resolution. In between though there's a lot of great banter between the characters, exciting all out action scenes, as well as fantastic, colorful art. If the series continues I'd subscribe.

This was a fun crossover that worked better then I thought it would. Set in the continuity of the current Star Trek universe, this story involves the crew of the Enterprise find a deceased alien and a set of rings. Once the crew activates them, the rings choose various members of the crew. The rings also draw Hal Jordan and other surviving lanterns show up to deal with the new owners of the red orange and yellow rings. Lots of humor and action.

I love it. I definitely love it, especially the bantering at the end. And not just between Spock and Captain Kirk, with Bones as well, and the crew. Everything about them is just wacky.

I love how we get two worlds (shall we say Universes?) combine in one graphic novel. That's the world of DC Comics and IDW Publishing. The crossover might sound impossible, but trust me when I say that this novel has made it more than possible. In light of the this week's headline of the newly confirmed existence of gravitational wave, that Einstein predicted a century ago, by various scientists using LIGO (Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory), anything can be possible with the dynamics of the universe (or multiverse). The Lanterns being transported to another universe would be easy-peasy especially in comics. Not that the premise here is hokum, it's well-drafted for the plausibility of a collaboration between two worlds.

Posted on: zirev.com
This graphic novel is a fun collaboration of two independent stories from two different universes by two different companies. I'm not all about it just for the fun but the sheer plausibility as well. Not only is the premise of the story possible, the characters from either side merge well without one-upping each other. It's a marriage that's both harmonious and cooperative.

What I love about it more was how the characters keep real to themselves, how they are still in character even though some parts have a different voice. For example, there's undeniable humor among the crew of the Enterprise whereas Hal Jordan's voice is solemn with a serious undertone to it although he can be fun. You will just know when the part is for Star Trek and the other for Green Lantern. They don't clash, they mold well with each other.

Spectrum War. Just expect all the colors of the spectrum of Lanterns getting involved. As to how U.S.S. Enterprise come into the picture? Just imagine them running across unattended rings. That's not hard to imagine even if you only know the title. Imagine the title: Star Trek/Green Lantern: The Spectrum War. You know that the mission of Captain Kirk's crew is to discover uncharted territories in the universe and protect new worlds. With Green Lantern's universe, you know that a chosen Lantern with the power of a ring can freely fly in space and permeate itself through solid matter, and that a Lantern is chosen based on an emotion of a particular color. However you think that these two worlds will cross path, then that's it.

What's more fun in this graphic novel is that the enemies are so big in nature. If you think through it, they're hard enemies and the battle should be hard too but this graphic novel made everything seem so simple, like how simple you could squish a cockroach. Think of the Lanterns' common enemy then think of the greatest nemeses of the Federation. Combine them all together against Captain Kirk's crew and Green Lantern's team. That looks so haphazard just throwing in everything and hard-to-win, but this novel managed to nail it. I'll leave you to your imagination. That's as far as I can tell about the story.

It's a bit too fast-paced even for a graphic novel. Everything just jumps right into action, sparring no second of holding back. The whole pacing is fast; there's not a single part that drops in momentum except for the ending as the final resolution. What I mean to say is that knowing the parts of a story, there's the intro, the rising action, climax et. al. For this novel, everything is like climax save for the ending.

For the drawing, even with a mask on, Hal Jordan is really hot. I appreciate it a lot how the artists are not basing on the movies because that's what happened for the Star Trek team. Not that I've got anything to complain for Star Trek, in fact I love it better that they're using the new faces instead of the originals. I love the uncanny rendition of Sulu from the new actor. I love every faces drawn for Star Trek: from Bones McCoy, Uhura, Spock, Scotty to Chekov, except for, surprisingly Captain Kirk himself. I don't know, I just don't find Chris Pine's comic rendition appealing especially for the character he's portraying. I don't like the old actor's face either. Perhaps, a suitable face for Captain Kirk is yet to be found.

Now, I've let you imagine a lot. What I like for you to do is to not imagine this collaborative graphic novel as a run for your money. For whatever was its worth, it was well-worth it.

(I received a free e-arc of this from the publisher through NetGalley. Review crossposted from my book review blog.)

This is a graphic novel (i.e. a really long comic book), and it is very cool. As soon as I finished the NetGalley e-copy, I went on Amazon and preordered the paperback.

I’m not very familiar with Green Lantern. I saw the movie, I’ve seen some fanart online, and I saw one fanart breakdown of the various Green Lanterns once. I don’t think I’ve ever read a Green Lantern comic. Fortunately, I still didn’t have trouble following along with this graphic novel. I am a huge Trekkie, though. This story takes place in the reboot universe, so you really only need to be familiar with the two reboot movies to be totally caught up on that side of it. I snagged this from NetGalley because I like Star Trek, I like comics in general, and I’m a big, big sucker for crossovers.

The Spectrum War is pretty much everything I want from a comic. It’s got fantastic art, cool action, and some funny lines. It doesn’t have a whole lot in the way of character development or relationships, but that’s okay because it’s not that kind of story. It’s just a fun, awesome action story with lots of cool things that I don’t really want to explain so as not to spoil them. Let’s just say this story makes really excellent use of the crossover. (Yes, Enterprise crewmembers become superheroes, and it is amazing and I love it.)

Most of the questions I had while reading were probably because I’m unfamiliar with the Green Lantern story, such as: Wait, what do all the colors mean again? Why are they all called lanterns even though the green one’s the only one whose mark looks like a lantern? Why does that one lady have a huge, star-shaped hole in her shirt? How does it stay in position against all physics? Where are her nipples, anyway; I’m pretty sure they should be visible in at least some of those shots? But hey: because comic books, I guess.

The only down side to this comic was how things for the Enterprise crew went back to business as usual at the end (as they have to with the tie-in novels, for example). Which is a pity because I really wanted to see more of the superhero versions of the characters. (Although they don’t go totally back to business as usual. There are one or two cool changes which make me wish this story were canon and we’d see these in future movies, because they’re just super, super cool.) (P.S. This book was COOL!)

When the best thing you can say about a comic book cross-over event is -- well, at least the art was nice, you know something isn't quite working. Or maybe that this particular cross-over event isn't your cup of tea.

Collecting the six-issue run of Star Trek/Green Lantern: The Spectrum War, this limited run series is not two great tastes that taste great together. In one reality, the Green Lantern corp has just been wiped out by some evil force. Rings of various colors hop over to the JJ Trek verse and assign themselves to familiar faces in the final frontier.

Adventure ensues. Along the way, there's a massive battle between all the various colors of the spectrum and the planet Vulcan comes back from the dead, complete with zombie Vulcans.

And yet for all of this, I couldn't help but feel that I'd arrived late for the party and missed some important details that reduced my enjoyment of this crossover event. It could be that my familiarity with Green Lantern is limited to what I've seen in the DC cartoons and the big screen version of the character with Ryan Reynolds. I hope that those who are more versed in Lantern lore will get more of seeing why various rings chose certain characters that I missed here. And I suppose if I recognized any of the Green Lantern pantheon of foes beyond Sinestro, I might have felt a bit more drive and drama to the battle to save the universes.

Instead, what I felt for much of this collection (beyond the first issue) was confused and uninterested. The third issue does little more than tread water as we set up things for the return of zombie Vulcan and Scotty inventing his own power ring.

In all honesty, I can't necessarily recommend this one to a casual fan. It feels like we've got a shoehorning of the JJ-verse Star Trek characters into a Green Lantern event mini-series. And it's one that left me as cold as General Chang's bones in space at the end of this story.

In the interest of full disclosure, I received a digital ARC of this comic book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

In comics, the world of crossovers can be a mixed bag, but I'm happy to report that 'Star Trek/Green Lantern: The Spectrum War' was a pretty decent story by Mike Johnson with art by Angel Hernandez.

When events in the Green Lantern version of Earth spill over into the Star Trek universe, things take a crazy course. An abandoned asteroid is found with a dead body by a Star Trek away team. In front of the body are some colorful rings. The crew takes the body and the rings back to the Enterprise. When the rings become activated, it's interesting to see who gets chosen. The rings have innate personalities of love, hope, war, etc. and this leads them to some likely bearers on both sides. When Hal Jordan shows up to figure things out, he meets a headstrong Captain Kirk who wants to know what has happened to his crew. Meanwhile, the Klingons, Romulans and Gorns now have powerful rings and want to use them to dominate the galaxy. Can the crew of the Enterprise and the Green Lantern Corps stop things before they go too far?

You'd think this would be a natural crossover, but when I first heard about it, I was a bit skeptical. I've read good and bad crossovers in the past, but I thought I'd give it a try, and I'm glad I did. Along with an interesting story of cosmic size, the art is really quite nice.

I received a review copy of this graphic novel from Diamond Book Distributors, IDW Publishing, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this graphic novel.

Star Trek/Green Lantern: The Spectrum War is a great roller-coaster ride from start to finish! :D The story is a complete mash-up with characters meeting that you would never have dreamed of! :D Kirk and Hal Jordan's interaction are brilliant with both clearly used to being in charge and having to O' so politely step around each other! :D Spock's interactions with Carol Ferris and Uhura's reactions will have you in stitches and this is one example of the fun inside! :D

The whole book rocks along at a terrific pace with both Sinestro helping out Chang, Atrocious with the Gorn, Lafleeze and the Romulans etc all coming together along with the 'Good' Lanterns and the Enterprise crew in what is a an epic thrill ride! :D The book come with emotional impact as well as we get to see Vulcan come apart one more and the Lanterns adjusting to their new reality! :D

Telling though Star Trek/Green Lantern: The Spectrum War does not hit the reset button! :D This of course then set things up for future mash up storylines! :D The casts all work excellently together and the character byplay is inspired and funny throughout! :D

The art is brillaintly really enhancing the script and really making all the vibrant colours on the page really pop enhancing the action and what the character are going through with every page! :D The art itself is full of easter eggs as well to boot and you will find yourself spotting then throughout! :D

Star Trek/Green Lantern: The Spectrum War is a crazy. Epic, Fun, hilarious and action packed ride! :D Brilliant and highly recommended! :D

I was pretty impressed with this crossover. With all of the recent Star Trek crossovers, really.

This crossover featured the "new" Star Trek crew (Kirk was drawn as Pine, Spock as Quinto, etc.) and I really prefer the original crew, but that's not a huge deal. The story and art were very good. Things are set in an alternate universe where Nekron has destroyed "our" universe, and then the remaining lanterns, including the bad guys, end up in the Star Trek Universe. Unfortunately, so does Nekron.

Star Trek and Green Lantern meshed together well, really better than I'd have thought. If you're a fan of either characters, you should enjoy this one. If you're a fan of both, I'd think you'd like it even more.

That was probably the best crossover I've ever read. I'm giving it a generous 5 stars because I think it completely succeeded at its goals. The characters blended well and they managed to make two very different worlds gel. There is room for a sequel and I sure hope they make it.

There is something about crossovers that tickles me pink (for a lack of better turn of phrase). Ever since my mom and dad introduced me to the Star Trek reboot movie in 2013 (shortly before its sequel, Into Darkness, came out in theaters), I've been an avid fan - despite the fact that this version of Kirk sleeps with a different girl whenever he has a chance to have shore leave. Which I can. Not. Stand.

Anyway, I waited patiently for the day where they would collect and bind all six issues of this story arc into one book so I could go and buy it. I find that it's just too pricey for me to go and buy every issue digitally. I almost have to pay the same amount for a digital copy as I would to get a physical one! And this omnibus edition (wow, new word for me), is gorgeous. And sleek. And sports that awesome new comic and/or book smell every time I open it.

And yes, I got it yesterday when I went to the city.

This is new for me, reviewing a comic book. I've never reviewed one before.

What really caught my eye about this crossover series was the fact that I'm both a Star Trek and a Green Lantern fan, so much so that I created a half Romulan, half human fan character and a human Green Lantern (her superhero name at the moment is "Girl Lantern"). I've drawn pictures of them both, but the images are lost on my flash drive somewhere.

But to get to the review - I just need to explain one more thing...

In the Green Lantern universe, emotions are personified. Someone at DC took the idea and ran with it I guess. And each emotion has a colour.

Life and death aren't exactly emotions, though, but I haven't followed the comics at all, so I have really no idea what's going on with those. The only Green Lantern "experiance" I've got is through Green Lantern: The Animated Series.

The art that makes up this comic is exquisite - the characters look like the actors who portrayed them. They look realistic, to the point that if they stepped off the page and into my bedroom, they would look like real people and not cartoons. I enjoyed it immensely, and the colours were so bright and wonderful. The fluidity of the characters on the page looked realistic and not goofy (like a certain other Star Trek series I know... *cough*Star Trek: The Next Generation - Doctor Who crossover*cough**cough*watercolour comic?!?!*cough*)

The only qualms I have with the comic is that Lt. Uhura uses the Lord's name in vain when she is presented with her pink ring. There also may be a few uses of h***, and maybe even d**n. And the pink lantern/Star Sapphire's suit was so tight, and the pale star on the chest of her suit made me think for a moment that she was on the verge of baring it all - until I compared the colour of the suit to her face's skin tone. Then it was a false alarm. Oh, and if any of you don't like seeing reanimated corpses, well, this may not be the comic for you...

Other than that, it's a pretty good afternoon read. I don't want to say anything more, lest I spoil it for you if you haven't had the chance to read it. Right now you can purchase it from Indigo.ca for $22.76 Canadian. And it's obviously cheaper on the IDW or comixology app.

This trade really outperformed my expectations and was an incredibly fun read.

Let me start by saying that I'm a novice to both worlds, Green Lantern and Star Trek. So, the characters here are fairly to me and therefore I came in mostly baggage free.

Starting off where it did with Ganthet fleeing from an unseen foe and doing some sort of dimension jump was a jarring way to start off, not knowing the world. However, it didn't take long for things to pick up and really kick off.

The rings are taken aboard the Enterprise where they are being studied when Green Lantern shows up. It is also at this time when the rings are activated and choose new wearers.

A few end up wielded by crew of The Enterprise while others seek out better hosts throughout the galaxy.

This is where we see the restraints of limited mini-series, though, as we have to rush a bit through finding the new wielders, them learning to use their new powers, and then being found by the supreme wielder of those rings in this galaxy.

However, it also keeps the book from getting bogged down with this issue while it's story really lies elsewhere.

The more evil ring wielders decide to come together and force the others to face them by attacking a Starfleet base. This does force a confrontation, but the other ring wielders quickly discover that they must pivot as a bigger issue has been discovered.

The force they had hoped to escape, the embodiment of death itself, Nekron was able to follow the rings to the current galaxy and brings an entire planet back from the dead, the planet Vulcan.

Once they arrive, they are forced to fight off a legion of undead while trying to discover a why to confront Nekron. Eventually, they discover that there is one among them to who holds the power to do what must be done, but can he follow through and win the day?

This story raced from scene to scene with glorious art along the way. One of the coolest things about the rings is what they are able to make out of them. This led to quite a few visceral reactions as I discovered new applications over and over again.

They also seemed to really nail the voice and character of the Enterprise crew which gave it a sense of authenticity which grounded the story in place which allowed it really to go all out at others.

This was an incredibly fun book that I couldn't recommend highly enough for a quick, light read.

*Disclaimer: I received an e-galley of this book from Netgalley and Diamond Book Distributors in exchange for an honest review.

When I was growing up I was a huge Star Trek fan. So it's no wonder that when I saw this book on Netgalley I just HAD to read it. Also, I like when two apparently different fictional worlds have a crossover, because it's a great opportunity to introduce people to new characters and get them interested enough to find out more about them.

The first thing I noticed was that, unlike most comic books that I've read so far, this one seemed easier to read and the story was a bit easier to follow. This might be due to how the panels were created. Not too many characters were present in the panels and I really enjoyed that fact. Although that doesn't mean there was a lack of details. On the contrary, the drawings were fabulous, the colors were extremely rich and vivid and they helped add a little extra layers to the story.

Because I've only seen the Green Lantern movie (and that was a while ago), I was surprised to hear that there were more Lanterns out there. Of course, it makes sense now, but at the time I was reading it, I was surprised. I enjoyed seeing new Lanterns being chosen. As a newbie to the Green Lantern world, I feel like my confusion was pretty much reflected by the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise ship and their reaction to the flying green man they meet in space during a fight. I did love the fact that most of my questions were answered, although it also made me curious about the Green Lantern comics and the entire history of this world.

I have to say that the ending felt a bit rushed, but the story did have only 6 issues, so I probably shouldn't have been that surprised by that fact. I greatly enjoyed reading about these two world together and I am actually hoping there's going to be more crossovers between the two franchises. I am curious if this will have any impact on future movies or if there's a plan for a Star Trek/Green Lantern movie crossover? That would be interesting to see. All in all, I greatly enjoyed this book and I will add the Green Lantern comic books to my TBR.

By Green Lantern’s light, Star Trek/Green Lantern: The Spectrum War truly goes where none have gone before. When the Lantern Corps are on the verge of annihilation by Nekron, a Guardian activates the Last Light, transporting every lantern that’s left to a new dimension where they run into Captain Kirk and the crew of the USS Enterprise. However, the introduction of rings soon brings the universe to the brink of war as the Klingons, Romulans, and Goran each get a ring and align with Sinestro, Atrocitus, and Larfleeze, who renew their quests for power. Writer Mike Johnson does an impressive job at sticking to the continuity of both series and includes a lot of fan favorite characters. And he makes a rather bold and unusual choice to set the story in the new Abrams Trek instead of the original (which is usually the case with these crossovers). Additionally, the artwork is really good; particularly in blending together the styles and designs of both series. Also, the texture and coloring are extraordinarily well-done and give the panels an extremely vivid and kinetic feel. Entertaining and action-packed, Star Trek/Green Lantern: The Spectrum War is a lot of fun and something that fans of both series will enjoy.

Disclaimer: ARC via Netgalley.

I have never been a reader of Green Lantern, so in fairness, I cannot comment on the accuracy of Green Lateran and the Lantern Corps.

The idea behind the series is obvious – Green Lantern meets Star Trek (the new movie version). Without giving away too many spoilers, some rings are found by an away team, some new bearers of the rings occur, and there is kick assery.

It’s pretty entertaining and funny at the same time. The ones that the rings chose are interesting and cool choices. There is a false note of a quasi jealous Uhura- it doesn’t quite fit and the potential sub plot, if it was ever that, is dropped. The action moves quite quickly and combines much of what makes Star Trek, well Star Trek. The idea of exploration and new wonder is present and nicely used.

I do wish Uhura had been given a bit more lines, for at one point it becomes the Kirk, Spock, and Green Lantern show for a few pages. I should point out; however, that ever since I first saw the original Star Trek, Uhura has always been my favorite character. Overall, I loved how she was used in the story, just wanted her to have more lines.

It was a fun read.

Not sure why my Mike Johnson "Trek" comic rereads keep resulting in me upping my ratings, but there we are. This was a *lot* of fun the second go round: lots of action, some good character beats, great moments of quiet humor -- and, I was surprised to rediscover in my reread, some real emotional beats with . "It's personal," as Kirk notes; that always make for an epic good adventure for me.

And, as a bonus: some great moments of Kirk and Uhura friendship. Kirk and Uhura friendship is the best. <3

I was already quite excited to reread the sequel when it comes out in a few weeks; now I'm really jazzed.

Collects Star Trek/Green Lantern issues #1-6

The idea of this crossover is really fun, but the execution was a little lacking. A deeper knowledge of the greater Green Lantern mythology would have made this a better experience for me, but I am yet to read Geoff Johns' historic run on that title. In many ways, this was a "Star Trek" story that featured appearances by "Green Lantern" characters.

Like I mentioned above, I haven't read Johns' "Blackest Night" story, and I think that would have been especially helpful.

Final rating = 3.5 stars

What a great mashup of two universes that I admire...Star Trek and DC universe involving the Green Lanterns. Takes place during Blackest Night where some of the Lanterns are shunted into a parallel universe of Star Trek, the new one with Chris Pine. Not only Lanterns from various colors, but rings too. The rings find new hosts in Kang (from Star Trek 6!), Uhura, Checkov, Bones, and more. Battles, seeing Jordan interact with Kirk is priceless.

When I first heard about this crossover I thought it was an odd pairing, honestly. But This had some cool moments, and was kind of like some Fan-Fiction in a way, not in a bad really. Seeing members of the Enterprise get lantern rings was a cool moment.
I suggest this to a fan of Green lantern or Star Trek.

I received an advanced copy of this from NetGalley.com and the publisher

Honestly, between this and the Legion of Super-Heroes crossover, I almost believe that Star Trek belongs with DC Comics. Here the two worlds meld almost seamlessly and the outcome is far from anything I would have expected.
I usually avoid the old cliche, but I mean it when I say that I couldn't put it down.

This was great! It's summer-movie-blockbuster fun. It's not brilliant. It's totally fan candy. But I really enjoyed it. The plot was a little weak, and the too-quick solution to the key problem was, well, too quick. But it was just a lot of fun to read. Recommended as an escapist adventure.
