Joshua Wilson, an up-and-coming movie star, is turned off by the idea of marriage. His Oscar-winning smile and breakout role in the summer’s hottest romantic comedy bring in enough attention to satisfy Joshua’s cravings for the spotlight – not to mention the never-ending supply of willing women.
Joey Mitchell is down in the dumps after finding out that her fiancé cheated on her with her best friend, and is living at home with her parents until she can get back on her feet. Without Joey’s knowledge, her overbearing and neurotic mother submits an application for her to appear on the reality show, Married Blind. When the producers surprise her with the news that they have cast her, Joey wants nothing to do with the show but agrees to participate because, at this point in her life, she really has nothing to lose.
Lights, camera, action… Welcome to another season of Married Blind. Contestants are about to take the plunge, but only one couple will come out of the house winners!

First up let it be known this is NOT a standalone, this was the final nail in the coffin for me with this one as I kept hanging out for it to get better or at least resolve! Nope, it’s dragged out for another book!
I so wanted to love this one, the blurb grabbed me and I couldn’t wait to read! Maybe that was it? I had recently read another books with a similar premise and it was done well so this one did not live up to its promise. I have read a few “reality show” books and this one just did not met their standard. : (
What didn’t work?
I didn’t connect to the H/h, the prologue was great and pulled me in but it fell off after that. Too much time in their heads and not enough actually relationship building between the couple or even building depth to them. Too much telling of what was happening. At 23% I was still struggling to care or connect with them and tempted to DNF but I wanted this to work, the storyline is something I so wanted to work but it didn’t get much better.
The H was all over the shop and things did not make much sense at time and felt like it was all manufactured to structure the plot. (Which I get has to be done to an extent but it didn’t feel real, natural or make total sense.)
The H is this massive movie star (A list not B list like his best friend) with all these rom/coms but he isn’t rich and lives in a rented shared apartment?? Umm yeah that makes no sense, I am sure the media and his co-ed neighbours leave him alone!!
Silly drama for the sake of drama, H/h not saying things to each other, communicating, not being honest about what they feel or want.
I was so sick of hearing Joey going on and on about what was going to happen when it was over. The twists added in the house and how Joey acted just felt contrived.
Then the last 20% was just dragged out so much, I kept waiting and waiting for the stupid drama, miscommunication and non-action to resolve but it didn’t.
I think I wanted to DNF about 4 times but pushed through and when I got to that end I was like you have got to F@#^ing kidding me.
What worked? Prologue I think I smiled a few times. :) The idea of the story was great....
Will I be reading the next one to find out what happens? No, because honestly at this stage I don’t care what happens to the H/h or the other contestants!
I picked up this book for a few reasons. First, the cover. How adorable is this cover? The old fashioned tv and the sweet, married couple who look so in love? I absolutely love this cover – clearly! Secondly, I love reality tv. I watch all the reality tv shows like the Bachelor, Bachelor in Paradise, Biggest Loser, Real World, Teen Mom, Gypsy Sisters, Couples Therapy, and more. So knowing this book written about a reality show really drew me in. Finally, the blurb makes the book sound exciting and fun – which it is. Overall, this makes for a great read! With that being said though, the book ends with an unexpected and totally unnecessary cliffhanger. We don’t even get a hint as to when (or even if) another book will be written with the answers that we readers so desperately need for our HEA. Ugh, this really disappointed me… Normally, I am fine with cliffhangers especially when we are told that there will be an upcoming book to satisfy our unanswered questions. Unfortunately, this just isn’t the case and to me, this isn’t okay. Had this novel given us a glimpse at the next installment I would have rated it a strong 5 stars. But because of this cliffhanger, its 4 stars for me. I also feel like mentioning that this book isn’t too long. It’s under 300 pages, fast paced, and flows well. The plot is unique, the characters are easy to connect with, and there isn’t extra drama added to the plot just for the sake of drama. This is a good thing to me because I don’t want to always feel angst in every romance book I read. However, due to the fact that this book is on the shorter side, the story could have easily been ended and I would have felt much better about it. Honestly, what is the point in dragging out a perfectly fine story into a series? There really is none, and I am sort of getting tired with this. Is it a ploy for more money? Probably. I just don’t like it.
Overall though (now that my rant on cliffhangers is finished) this story is really fun and enjoyable. Fans of reality tv will definitely get a kick out of this story and will certainly be rooting for the characters. This is the first book I have read by the author and I do plan on reading more of her work in the future as long as the books don’t always end this way.
Ok ok, not really, this is the first "reality show" book I read, but it was just as boring as I expected it to be. I gave the book 25 stars not because it was bad, but because it was a forgettable read (for me). I just wasn't that much into it.
The characters weren't awful and the writing wasn't too bad, even the plot could be interesting to some people (not to me, but to other "somes"). So ah well, if you like the blurb, it's worth reading. If you don't, you'd best steer clear of this one.
fun, clever, entertaining - no drama just for drama - I am addicted to reality TV so this was right up my alley. I could picture every scene, every interaction in my head as if it were a tv show playing in my mind and I enjoyed every minute! Wait til you meet this cast of characters!
Such a cute read - that first chapter, I'm dying! Joey and Joshua are charming characters what with their issues, insecurities and involuntary insurmountable attraction. Of course there is one communication breakdown after another, it's that kind of book, in a super fun way, of course. But it does get a bit tender and touching, too. Heidi knows her way around backstage, adds verisimilitude and believability to a fairy-tale of Hollywood. A perfect escape read, as addicting and infuriating as your favorite reality show!
OMG I LOVE IT like I was hooked form page one and couldn’t put this baby down. Blind Reality is filled with one exciting thing after the next, and will never disappoint. Heidi wrote a true love story and a different kind of one at that.
I have never read anything like this book and was happy because I have been in a funk for a while but I read it in 24 hours and cant stop thinking of Joey and Joshua! Two people in very different points in there life join a show to get married to someone but not knowing who that person is till after they say there I DO’s… WHAT…. That’s so crazy! And crazy it will be.
Joey has just gotten out of a situation that non of us ever want to deal with and I think its so cool she gets, lets say pushed into this. She is going to be married to a man she might have just crushed on her whole life! I love her she is really all in and all in might just not be the best thing for her heart.
Joshua is HOT, I mean movie star and all and one that every women wants. Burt now after one drunk decision he is going to follow this thing throw. I LOVED how these two unlike people find love in this crazy show! I am not sure how to express how much I just loved this book, I mean I was so intrigued but what was going to happen with Joey and Joshua next I was like so upset when one was acting like an ass…. LOL yes I felt so connected to this story I just LOVED IT!
You need something new and fresh maybe leave you heart full and your mind happy then Blind reality is the book for you! But don’t take my word for it and make sure you read this one because I for sure did not tell you all the GOOD STUFF that happens in this one!
This pop culture junkie fell hard for Blind Reality--with a glimpse into the world behind the camera, a fantastic amount of sexual tension and two fantastic leads, I was completely smitten! I can't wait for more in this series!
2 - 2.5 ☆ Just couldn't connect with the characters. So I found it difficult to keep focused & the need to skim through some paragraphs. I felt like emotions were jumping from one pan to the next......again just my opinion
Wow! It's like Big Brother meets The Bachelor, and big brother is one of my fave reality shows. Blind Reality was a light, cute and funny read which is just what I needed. There was some drama but nothing major. I really enjoyed reading Blind Reality and am ashamed to say its the first book I have read by Heidi McLaughlin although I own most of her books LOL Joey and Josh are easy to fall in love with and you can't help but to get attached to their characters, their back and forth banter keeps you wanting more and ofcourse Josh is sooo hot! And that ending, just leaves you hanging that you have no choice but to want more. Ive already one clicked book two because I need to see where things go from here, just as things are getting intense there's no more words!! I need more words!!! I highly recommend reading this book, I really love the authors writing style and can't wait to see what else she has in store for her readers.
Did you ever watch a reality TV show like The Bachelor and wonder what the participants were thinking? Is it all a show for the cameras or are real feelings involved? Welcome to the Married Blind show, where a couple agrees to say “I do” and stays married in order to win a large cash prize. Joey marries Josh, her ultimate celebrity dream-crush. Are Joey and Josh just playing the game, or is the game playing them?
Blind Reality is a refreshing and lighthearted romance that captures the essence of reality TV. This book ended and left me wanting more. I feel like I just watched the last episode of my favorite TV show, and it's over for the season. I'm so bummed that it ended! What’s going to happen to Joey and Josh’s marriage? I hope Heidi has another book planned!
This review appears on www.kindlecrack.net, www.facebook.com/kindlecrack, Goodreads, Amazon, Pinterest, Google+ and Twitter. A review copy of this book was kindly provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.
This reminded of Bachelor Pad with a MAFS twist while I'm not huge fan of watching reality shows I've seen my fair share. I like the premise and I was interested where it was going. The insight to behind the scenes was fun and things fans of it would like. I would've like more insight on the other characters though. I personally like that aspect of it, everyone has their reasons of joining and you realize it's manipulated too in a way. Josh and Joey were likeable but in some ways I wanted to see more from them as individuals and their arguments got old after a while. I wasn't surprised to find out the ending and well it's quite typical in those kinds of shows. I still want to find out what happens and what the reality world throws at them.
Luego quería golpear a Joey...
Sufrí muchos días de tormento esperando a que la relación de estos dos pasará del reality a la realidad para que al final me cortaran todo con un estúpido final que dejo cientos de cosas sin resolver.
Heidi has done it yet again. She's taken us to a different level of her talent. Blind Reality is new, fun and entertaining with a little angst. It's such an amazing read. I love the characters she has created here, even the annoying as hell Amanda! Joey and Josh really touch your heart, both of them not knowing what the other is thinking but knowing each other at the same time. I highly recommend you pick up this book and get to reading. For those of you reality junkies, this will fit in just perfectly for you!!
Wow, I actually didn't realize this was reality show thing, but I must say it was really exciting one. It was weird at first, but the book is really awesome. Maybe because I didn't see any of this coming :)
Let me start by mentioning my disdain for all things reality TV. Shows like that are vapid, ridiculous and so very far from reality, it's a wonder how they can legally get away with the genre's moniker. I'll never understand the draw to them. What's worse are those who want to be on reality shows. Those talentless hacks seem so narcissistic and opportunistic, they see a way to grab their fifteen minutes by humiliating themselves, all for the entertainment of the voyeuristic minds who are addicted to shows like this.
Why did I read this book then? The author. I usually like her work. I read the blurb and the free prologue included in the other book, Dark Room, by this author and LP Dover. I was intrigued and thought that even though I hate reality shows, maybe this book had potential. The potential I saw, sadly, wasn't reached.
The book centers around contestants of a show where couples marry sight unseen, and they live with the other newlyweds in a house and compete for luxury prizes and a grand prize of one million. I can understand why Joshua entered this show. He's an actor who drunkenly signs on to the show (and can't get out of the contract); he becomes determined to win so he can donate his share of the money to his charity.
Joey's motives are nonexistent since her mother signed her up for it. She doesn't want to do it, but she goes through with it because her mommy tells her to? She never tells her mother or the show to shove it. This is the main reason I never fully connected with her. She's so wishy-washy, that it's hard to get a good read on her. I understand her insecurities, but they become unattractive pretty quickly. And the lengths the show goes to for ratings are rather sociopathic, but because of their antics, she finally reacts. The one time Joey stands up to them, I think her character has finally gained a backbone and she will begin to be someone I can respect. However, that is soon spoiled by a return to her mamby-pamby personality. Honestly, I don't see what Joshua sees in her.
I normally love this author's style. I love how she allows us to climb inside the heads of her characters to see and feel what they do. However, what I normally love quickly became annoying. It is futile to have that insight if there is never any time to act on those thoughts. They didn't talk. Ever. And it was for two reasons: either because they couldn't, always with the cameras in their faces and not wanting the audience or getting called to other places for the competition. Or it was because they just didn't talk. When they finally do get alone to talk freely, they don't. And not because they are busy sexing it up. No. They just don't communicate. It frustrated the hell out of me.
Then to top it all off, there is no ending. No where is there a warning that it's the first in a series. Nope. It's a damn, mother effin' cliffy, ending in the promise of another book about another friggin reality show centered around the two of them. Ugh. Please no. Let them refuse it. For the love of all things holy, do not torture them with another fish bowl existence. It will completely ruin both characters if they agree.
Side note: please learn how to use the proper forms of "I" and "me." If I had to read, "for he and I," when it should be the objective case, "for him and me," one more time... Just another thing to frustrate me.
Will I read another book? We'll see how I feel about it when it's finished.
Blind Reality is one funny, sweet, and crazy book!
I’ve recently become a fan of this author’s work, and when I read the blurb of this book, I needed it, and jumped into immediately when it hit my kindle. We meet Josh and Joey who have both unwillingly signed up for the T.V. reality show where the contestants agree to marry someone sight unseen and work with them for 3 months to win 1 million dollars. Never in Joey’s mind did she ever think she’d marry her celebrity crush.
In the beginning of this book I wasn’t a huge fan of Josh. He really didn’t think much of Joey’s feelings, just doing what he signed up for, and trying to win some money for a cause near and dear to his heart. When he first sets eyes on Joey he was smitten, but kept pulling back from her, and always reminding her that they would go their separate ways when all was said and done. Joey has a dose of reality through this book. She got her dream guy, but it’s only temporary, so she tries and tries to protect her heart, and does a horrible job of doing it throughout their story.
Being as though this book is set on a reality TV show, the author does an amazing job of making you feel as if you’re watching this story play out on tv. I loved Millie and Cole, and despised Gary and Amanda (the other two couples in the house). There is drama, but nothing over the top or any that makes you go “Seriously, why did that have to happen?!”. The dynamic of the couples is definitely interesting, and I loved watching them compete against one another, and watch the other stories play out as well.
Josh and Joey definitely have chemistry, you can see it before they even see each other, and as the book goes forward it keeps getting stronger and stronger. Seeing both Josh and Joey’s points of view in this book really helped me see things and understand things that they didn’t see. Josh fought tooth and nail to not fall for Joey, but in the end couldn’t help it, and Joey tried over and over again to protect her heart to have it broken. Their banter, chemistry, and game play is amazing, and you can see these two definitely belong to one another.
This book grabbed me from the beginning and I was unable to put it down. I wanted to know if these two would make it in the long term, but now we have to wait till the second book is released to see how things end up for these two amazing and endearing characters. This book does have a cliffhanger, but I’m hoping we don’t have to wait long for the second book, because I need more Josh and Joey ASAP!
If you don’t mind a cliffhanger, I highly suggest picking up this funny, steamy and light hearted read today. You won’t be able to help yourself from falling in love with Josh and Joey and the reality cast of characters surrounding them!
3.5-4 stars. This book started out with a fun and interesting premise for the reality tv junkie in me, but then fell a little short in the delivery because the characters were likable also a bit flat. Joey Mitchell is blindly wed to none other than Hollywood celebrity Joshua Wilson. The two of them, along with 2 other blindly married couples, are featured in a show called Married Blind, complete with a house for them to share, competitions and confessions. Joey is a big fangirl of Joshua's and while it was always her dream to marry someone like him, she actually is married to him. As for Joshua, he's on the show to win and afterwards, he will go back to his regular life. I liked the dynamic between them, Josh is very respectful towards Joey, other than the certain lines he has drawn in the sand. Joey herself carries her personality well on camera by not losing her cool or acting temperamental. Josh is a seasoned actor and with their every move being documented, what parts of him is real vs pretend? After 3 months of living together, can Joey convince Joshua that maybe their marriage is meant to last outside of reality tv? As you would expect with reality tv, there's some purposely induced drama and with the way the story ended, I suspect there's more to come in the future.
I Loved this book. I literally could not put it down and by the time I finished the clock read 5:30am. Thank God I have off during the summers!! Joshua is a famous actor who winds up in a crazy reality tv show where the couples get married while blindfolded. (Totally love this idea btw) Joey, his number 1 fan is living her every fantasy... Married to her favorite actor. Even blindfolded, they have an immediate attraction to each other. Jason lays his cards on the table and tells Joey there won't be any sex and there will be an annulment when the show is over. But his words and his actions are 2 very different things! Joey and Jason have chemistry and the sexual tension is through the roof. As they get to know each other better, it becomes clear they will have a hard time fighting the feelings they have and fighting the "no sex" ban issued by Jason. Twists and turns are what reality tv is all about and this is no different. Joey and Jason have to fight other couples as well as the powers that be on the show to remain in tact. Both characters are so likable and Jason is definitely a swoon worthy book boyfriend. I cannot wait for the second installment of this sexy, funny and totally adorable romance book!! 5 stars!
It's true. Heidi can officially write anything she puts her mind to. I love all her characters and the ones in Blind Reality could easily sit at the top of my list now.
The book grabbed me from the start and to say I couldn't put it down is an understatement. All the characters in this book, no matter how small their role, was well thought out to add entertainment and angst to keep the story flowing smoothly. And this story flowed at just the right pace.
The characters were well developed and relatable even with Joshua being a celebrity. The chemistry between him and Joey from the very beginning was very believable and you wanted nothing more than to see them win and fall in love. Perfect right? But with any good story, we know that everything can't be that easy.
The concept of this book was great and as someone who used to indulge in reality TV, this book was on point. Heidi brought a unique concept for a book (at least unique to me) and brought it to life. I did not want this story to end.
There was a nice mix of "celebrity crush/girl next door" and "arranged marriage" tropes set in a reality show format. The characters themselves were likeable and flawed just enough to be realistic. And the reality show characters and challenges were fun or at least interesting.
So, why didn't I rate it higher? Because of the "cut to commercial" ending. That was a low blow and not really necessary. I would have still read the next book to see how they adapted after everything has changed but I feel cheated by how this was executed. I understand that it fits the theme but, still, it wasn't necessary.
I ABSOLUTLEY love every book Heidi writes. What happens when u go on a reality tv show that you didn't want to, that your mom submitted an application for you and not seeing who you will marry. It reminds me of my fav. reality show. Joshua is an up and coming movie star and Joey hasn't had luck in love. Will this be an experience that will change them or be the biggest mistake of their lives. I literally could not but this book down which doesn't surprise me since I'm a fan of all Heidi's work. There is nothing that she can't write. Another 5 star read.
Blind Reality has everything I love in a story. It had me laughing and loving the characters from the start! Joey was so relatable and Joshua will become your new book boyfriend!! You won't want to put this book down!
Joey’s life changes when she discovers that her fiancé has been cheating on her with her best friend for months. Her mother decides to sign her in a reality show where Joey will have to marry a complete stranger. And then she discovers that her new husband is her celebrity crush, Joshua Wilson, famous actor. They would have to live and compete with other couples for 3 months in order to win the 1 million $ prize. Joshua makes it clear from the beginning that everything is for the show and the money, and that he plans to sign an annulment of marriage as soon as the shows ends. But with each touch, each kiss, Joey falls in love more and more with Joshua. But after Joshua’s ex, along with his agent and his lawyer intervene, Joey decides to leave Joshua. But Joshua is not willing to give up bc although he has never wanted to get married, now he cannot imagine his life without Joey and he will do whatever it takes to get her back. It will be necessary to read the second part to know if in the end he succeeds.
“Kiss me like you mean it. Kiss me like I’m the only one in the world that makes you smile.” Joey falls back into my arms. “Kiss me like I’m the one you want to spend the rest of your life with.” She’s now chest to chest with me and the sexual tension is heavy. Joey licks her lips and my eyes watch the slow motion of her tongue. “Ah hell,” I say before pulling her into my arms and crashing my lips against hers. I know we had sex last night, and that’s a game changer. I just have to figure out why she’s so hell bent on telling me we didn’t. Everything with her is now intensified and turning her away from this point on is going to be extremely difficult. Maybe she knows this, or maybe this is just part of her game plan. Either way, I’m screwed. I’m done for. Joey Freaking Wilson officially owns me. “I wish I could be enough for you. I wish that when you looked at me you saw your future, not someone temporary. When I see you, I see the stars lighting our path through life. I see us doing something great and magnificent. I don’t care that you’re famous because that’s not how I see you anymore. To me, you’re the one who makes sure I’m warm at night. You make me feel like I matter, and I want the opportunity to show you that you matter to me as well.”
“I’m a coward,” I say to the viewers. “My fear is that I don’t know what love is and my inability to recognize what’s going on in here.” I put my fist over my chest and pound once. “It’s going to be my downfall. How do you know when you’re in love? Is it when your body craves that person?” I’d say yes because when I finally gave into everything I had been fighting, and made love to her in the shower, I felt like a new person. “I want to spend all my free time with her, and make time that doesn’t exist be time for just the two of us. I never want to get up in the morning for fear that I’ll be cold because her body keeps me warm at night. I find myself watching her comb her hair and it’s fascinating. I love that she wants to workout, but not willing to give up her cake. She’s real, not a plastic filled human trying to be someone she’s not. “My fear is that I’m tainted by the ugly of the world and can’t see the beauty that is in front of me. My hope is that I’m enough for her, but the angry, bitter man inside of me says I’m not and I never will be. My stubbornness is going to drive Joey away and I’m not sure that I know how to stop it. I made a mistake. From day one I’ve told her something that I can’t take back. Joey is unlike any woman I have ever met before. She makes me laugh and I have a feeling she’ll be the one to make me cry.”
Started strong but was a drag to finish- I just wanted to know how they would bring it together in the end. But, surprise, it’s left on a cliffhanger for the next book.
I love the show married at first sight- this had the extra twists of blindfolded until after officially married. Then all couples move into a house together for 3 months to compete. The main character, Joey, is shocked to find out she’s married her celebrity crush. His goal is to win the money and then annul the marriage, but will his heart get in the way?
Likes: - reality tv premise - the competition concept - the characters
Dislikes: - lacking banter between the characters - I love you / I love you not / on again / off again
some was too far fetched: - An A-list celebrity who lives in a mediocre apartment with a roommate because LA is too costly - he needs to win the money to donate to a charity because he can’t afford to donate on his own - they’re all living together on reality tv and they’re expected to do the cooking and cleaning of this mansion house
