The Matriarch Trilogy #1

The Matriarch: An Erotic Superhero Romance

Rate this book
Betrayal is easy, sex is a weapon, and information is power. Maggie Madison sits in the lofty towers of her city during the day, but at night she lurks the seedy underbelly, looking to snare the man who stole her innocence. Her simple quest becomes complicated when she meets a man who is as light as she is dark, as straightforward as she is deceptive. When a villain rises and sets her world alight, she must weigh her need for revenge against the good of the city she vowed to protect.

For mature readers, this book contains gratuitous sex and violence...

Fans of the dark feel of Jessica Jones and the gritty elements of Gotham will enjoy the story of a new superhero with a dark past, The Matriarch.

The debut novel from Sloane Howell is book one of The Matriarch Trilogy. The next two books are set to release in 2016. There are some plot arcs left unresolved to set up book two so this book does end in a cliffhanger but not without some resolution. For those with triggers, there are dark scenes where certain situations are implied but not described in detail. Thank you for reading.

i'm speechless ! Seriously i loved this book so much , Rebekah Balfour/ Maggie Madison is such a badass i love her !

The book will take you in to the darkest world our society has created it starts with Maddie moving to new hometown ! her parents started teaching there but criminals and thugs won't leave them alone till they pay a huge amount of money to be protected well it didn't end well for her family !

when Kiril sawed Dad’s throat, severing his main artery and spilling his blood to the floor. Kiril wrenched the severed head free and held it up like a trophy. I went numb. I was in a tunnel. Kyle and Mom shrieked in my ears but it felt like they were a hundred feet away. Kiril dropped Dad’s head on top of his lifeless body. Everything went dark.

After killing her family Kiril takes Maddie as his slave and turned her into a hooker, Maddie managed to escape and found a man ''Zak'' who took really care of her and trained her to learn how to fight and that's how she became the badass she is today . The action scenes are really good damn Sloane Howell did a great job with this one !

and OMG the ending is so unexpected !!!!!! THAT WAS COLD KYLE !!

"I want to be free. I want all of the girls to be free. I want justice for my family."
"Do you want justice or revenge?"
"Can I have both?

Freaking fantastic!! I'm not sure I can even find the right words to do this book justice.

Sometimes you start a book with a bit of trepidation. Uncertain of what you'll find. I'd be lying if I said that I wasn't a little leery going into this book. But I was sold after reading the first line.

"Jesus Christ this guy can f*ck. Shame he has to die."

At the age of 12, Maggie descends into hell. Her family is murdered, she's taken and held captive, and is forced into a life of prostitution. She had finally accepted her lot in life... until she didn't. Enough was enough and she escapes. She trains to become the city's new hope.

timetokill

If you're a fan of Batman, you will LOVE this story. Everything is very Gotham-esque without being redundant. It's fresh, unique, raw, gritty, and BLOODY!

There is heartbreak:
"I love you so much... both of you... and..." I started to choke on my words but managed to stutter through them. "I'm going to m-miss you both so much. So very much. I'm going to make you so proud of me."

There is love:
"What do you want to do today?" The motor rumbled as I grinned in his direction. "Run away with you." He smiled. He always said the perfect things.

"Look at me." His eyes slowly rose as I unconsciously batted my eyelashes at him. "I'm still a girl." I couldn't believe those words left my lips, but they were true. "And when you hold me... it's the safest place in the world."

There is fight:
"Each time I put on the suit I became a different person. A person for criminals to fear."

There's also lies, deceit, murder, mayhem, betrayal and vengeance. The story is intense, scintillating, sexy, gory and incredibly brilliant. I NEED book 2 NOW!!

So you ask me??
Yeah this book was not what I expected, I I mean with erotic included on the title, I just assumed there will be a lot more of that kind of action, but wow! If I was wrong!
This books is quite different to most of the books I’ve read. Wanna see the differences?
So,

And a bit of panorama to all of you

The panorama? you know what! have yourself in a corrupted city where the rich are richer and the poor, poorer...so there´s no surprise that a few people would like to raise and make the difference for the weak ones.
With a few twists that come from the perspective of everyone involved, (good or bad, doesn’t matter they talk) and a writing that helps you feel like another citizen of Bathory, Golem and Capitol city…that you would not be able to stop reading ( 'cause it also has a fast pace) …until you get to the end and like me,you will still be passing the finger over and over again ‘cause you can’t seem to accept that THAT was the end!
I really liked it.

"Do you want justice or revenge?"

What a dilemma to have to face! This is my first time reading Sloane Howell and I was not disappointed. This was a bit of a change of for me. While I was on board with the erotic nature of the read, I was unsure about the "superhero" aspect of the story. I was pleasantly surprised at the tale I got!

This is a story with grit and gore. Maggie is just a normal girl with a good family. She is thrown a loop when she is uprooted to a new town as her father finds religion and then the need to help those less fortunate. In a new town of pure evil, her life changes and she suffers the repercussions of her father's move. It is when everything is lost that she must grow up within the realm of evil. She has been shaped by the darkness and when she finally breaks free she becomes vengeance.

This read has ALOT going on. The setting is dire and very complex with corruption at every corner. Not only is she dealing with her life's plan to eradicate Kiril, the man who stole her innocence, but also the revolutionary backlash from Ka0s...a rogue group making justice for the people a blood bath. Maggie has a complex existence as she is a smart business woman by day amassing companies and properties from under the Evil running the city and taking to the shadows at night using her learned trades of sex and war to eradicate the bad guys. All is carefully planned out, until darkness meets a light. When Maggie falls for a sexy good Cody, her life of deceit may be out in the open.

This story move fast and a lot happens. It is one of those reads that you have to keep up or get left behind! I would have loved more from Maggie. While the tone is dark and dreary, I needed a bit more of Maggie. I know she suffered greatly, but she adapted to everything...I think I needed a bit more of her struggle. She had seen and endured so much darkness...is it bad I wanted to read that? I loved the bad-ass she became but I wanted the struggle to get there! Perhaps she had seen too much death to truly be affected.

I do have a feeling that the next book in series will be epic as that ending was nothing that I expected! Holy Heck of a cliffhanger. True crossroads for the Matriarch! What if the evil you have fought against forever wasn't as bad as what is to come? What if your life's plan for vengeance was for nothing? What if the only true and pure love found couldn't exist in a world of deceit? WELL PLAYED Sloane Howell!

I must say I was not expecting this! I saw "erotic" and I figured thats mostly what it would be but this story was so much more! And that ending! OMG! What can I say? This was brutal, sad, and intriguing. I literally felt like I was watching a summer blockbuster Hollywood film with all the action and suspense. I was rooting for Maggie from the beginning and I cannot wait to see how this story unfolds in the upcoming books.

If you're looking for an action packed, erotic read then this is definitely the story for you.

One night, about 35 years and 362 days ago, Quentin Tarantino and Zack Snyder met at a bar. They soon got to talking and bonded over a couple of drinks and their mutual love of hot chicks in yellow PVC suits. As the drinks flowed, their mutual attraction grew stronger and soon the two couldn’t keep their hands off each other. After one night of passion they went their separate ways but the night resulted in a link that would forever hold these two together. Their love child: Sloane Howell.

Zack and Quentin went on to make many movies, including each an ode to their yellow pvc’d inamoratas, and Sloane Howell grew up to make his parents proud by writing The Matriarch.

Now I could say many things about this book. I could say it’s part Kill Bill and part Watchmen and part Sucker Punch and part Inglorious Basterds (ok, not really but Cristopher Waltz drinking milk deserves an honorable mention). I could say it’s a better revenge story than eating extra spicy Mexican chili I could say this book is more entertaining than Linkin Bark (seriously, look that up on YouTube). But one thing I cannot say is: ‘You know what this book needs? More blood!’

When a book starts with: ‘Jesus Christ this guy can fuck. Shame he has to die.’, you know you’re in for one helluva ride. From the world Howell created to the characters he introduced to the plot he spun to the explicitly detailed action sequences and erotic sex scenes, this ride was nothing short of EPIC. My heart rate was elevated from the word go and the constant feeling of fearful anticipation did not relent until I reached the final page…. When my heart exploded (Seriously, Sloane? Fuck you for that ending).

This book has everything. Action, suspense, gore, sweetness, hotness, laughter and even some romance to boot. I could tell you all to read this book but I’m not sure you’re ready. If you’re going to read this book do so with a tub of Vaseline because this book comes back to bite you in the ass harder than the hottest Mexican chili imaginable.

Seriously, you’re not prepped.

4.5 BADASS MATRIARCH stars

This is my first book by Sloane Howell and I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised.

This was a highy action packed read with a badass heroine, twists in the tangible plot with such an effortless portray of the utterly hopeless world of betrayla, greed, slavery, extortion, crime in which only the destined survive.

Margaret/Maggie Madison /Rebekah Balfour - a modern day heroine, tough, resilient, a billionaire business woman by day and a avengeful fighter by night - we are swept into her inner and outside world from the tender age of 12 until 27, going through the span of events that made her character, first broken, slaved, sold, then hardened, trained, bold, tough, decisive, determined, calcualted badass fighter with a goal...
"Teach me how to fight.
Why?
I need justice.
Justice or revenge?
Justice."

and her mission is unique - to fight against and swipe out the "ugly" that destroyed her life, that shattered the last piece of her entity as a human being, the evil that wants to rule, demolish the souls by treacherous pulls to take over the city, the population, the essence of life and every aspect of it.

 photo matriarch1_zpsy8uwmkhz.jpg

making her indisposable and highly driven and focused to that mission until one guy Cody Powellbrings the calm, the simplicity and light into her dark soul to fight for her heart by bringing in the glimpses of "normal" into her double/cover up shady life.

"I've never dated anyone.
It's okay.
I don't know what I'm doing.
It's okay.

Extremely fun material, fast in action and happenings, character's build up, tension and angst only work together as a build up of an atmoshere. The only thing that was confusing were several chapters with names of the characters as a starting point, where I thought, actually expected for them to have a continuation in the story but as it turned out, they were just expendable. I guess that kinda threw me of tracks...
BUT that certainly does not diminish the high expectation of the second book in the trilogy!

“Jesus Christ this guy can fuck. Shame he has to die.”

First off, this was a serious ‘what the fuck’ moment for me. And no, I’m not kidding. This is not what you expect it to be, and if you’re looking for something that will blow your mind, like literally, this is it. This is the book for you.

I know, I usually have lots of quotes, it creates a continuity for me. But apparently, I was so absorbed with what I’m reading, I was a mess at the end. This is how it goes:

[click] same page.
[click] still on the same page.
[check book progress] 100%. The End. Nope. That couldn’t be.
[click] same page.
[click] still on the same page.
[check book progress] 100%. The End. Fuck! It’s the end.

Why did you do that to me?

Okay, now that have been expressed, let me go back to why I rated this book as I have rated it.

What attracted me to this book?/I love about this book.

1 The cover. I’m a sucker for beautiful covers. This one screams badass to me, dark, mystery, secrets. I didn’t read the blurb so I really don’t know what it say. I just stared at the cover for like a minute or two and then I decided, I wanted to read the excerpt.

2 The superhero element. And I was thinking vigilante, a badass heroine. And I really can’t say no to an independent woman who can stand on her own and kick some ass. Oh yeah. I love Maggie Madison immediately.

3 Action-packed and fast paced. This was like watching a movie in my head. I mean, I was reading and the scenes just played in the back of my mind. Also, I like the pacing.

4 The ending. I’m serious. I didn’t expect that. I had a feeling at some point but I was actually begging, wishing, anything for it to not be true, but hell. Thus, the dark twisted ending. Vague much? Read! LOL

At some point, I was thinking of Genevieve Snow aka Spider (Elemental Assassin). It’s for the reason that I was comparing her with Maggie. The training, the ruthlessness. I was also thinking of Batman and the Gotham City because of the tech on the suit.

I didn’t appreciate it as much but after I finished the book and mulling over what I think about it, as a whole, I did like how the story goes. Seeing the growth of the character and the development is imperative to me, and somehow gave me a better understanding of how the story ended.

I guess, one thing that was off for me was that I hope the writer delved deeper on Maggie’s emotions but then, this is not really an emotional read and Maggie is one broken soul. Ah yeah, I wanted to experience, a little bit, of the darkness that she have suffered through and how she had striven to like what she did. Also, a first is important to me. Not the first kiss or that, but the first kill. I wanted to know the experience, how she felt with that. Correlating that with Maggie’s training, I get the whole idea but there’s a difference with experiencing together with her.

Other than that, this was one enjoyable read for me. This was a totally different work for Sloane Howell. I’ve only read Joel, but I’ve actually seen the difference. Kudos to the writer for delivering a work of how he intended it to be.

Growing up, I had been taught that when you read, it was important to throw yourself into the story so that you could comprehend fully, what you were reading.
This is how I have always read. I throw myself into the plot, putting myself into my favorite character's shoes, so to understand what I am getting myself into.

THE MATRIARCH grabbed me immediately, throwing me back to my own childhood, struggling the same as Maggie, dealing with change, hurt, and disappointment. I became her immediately as I read, attempting to understand her thoughts and diving into her constant struggle between listening to her heart or letting her mind control her next steps. I read, and continued to go deeper into this book, grabbing at my chest, feeling for her as she grew into a machine, someone who was made to correct all that was done to her.

Sloane's writings always toss me into mental spins, due to his way with words, the emotions of the characters, their feelings, and their struggles; totally taking you through twists and turns, and just when you think you have it all figured out...UPPERCUT!! I threw my phone across the room (Thank God for OtterBox). I grabbed at my tank top, thinking, "What the hell just happened here?" This is how Sloane writes. This is why I am a huge fan, I am always thrown into his characters and their stories.

The Superhero element is superb, especially since I grew up reading comics with Superheroes and I am a huge fan of the genre. But a female warrior is rare to me. They exist, but not like Maggie. The ones we know of do not have the determination, the intensity, the intelligence like Miss Madison. Maggie is truly brilliant in her own right, she's strong, but weak, broken-but whole, she's sexy, but innocent, but she is a major bad a**, a true Mother-Protector. The way Sloane writes her, hits hard and when she evolves into The Matriarch, all hell breaks loose--her strength and ability to fight through, with such determination and ease, like nothing matters but her one goal...to right a horrible wrong.

I don't want to go into too much, so that I won't spoil anything. I could go on and on writing about Mags and how she resembles the ultimate superhero, a woman, a protector of family, of people like her. This is the best I have ever read from Sloane, not that I didn't like the other books, I am a devoted fan, but this book hit me in my chest because I saw a little of my younger self in Maggie, her struggles with heart and mind, justice over vengeance, to love or to sacrifice for love...truly remarkable. And then Sloane does a 360 and knocks me on my a** with the hardest Mortal Kombat knock out ever...the true villain.

Sloane, I want to thank you for this book...all of your books. I am truly grateful for scrolling through amazon and finding your books in my suggestion feed. Your writing has opened me up to go deeper into something I stopped doing years ago. Mags has taught me in 5 hours that it's alright to do what you feel is right...to love, to sacrifice, to kick a**. I am looking forward to your next installment of The Matriarch and I am proud of this work. (I sound like I'm your mom, don't I? I think I'm old enough to be your mom, maybe.) Excellent, sir. Truly Inspiring!

The Matriarch: An Erotic Superhero Romance
Book 1 of 3
by Sloane Howell

My mind is officially blown! Originally reading the title of this book, you think okay a super hero who has kinky sex. Well, she’s a superhero alright but not in the Superman kind of way. More of the Batman kind of way, lots of really cool toys (and I’m not talking sex toys here people!). Maggie Madison, your Matriarch.
Just to give you a brief overview of this book
Sloane Howell is a new find for me, and a gem I didn’t know existed! I couldn’t put this book down until it was finished and I didn’t expect this book to end as it did! It through me for loops. There were moments where I was hot and bothered but then scared for the characters I quickly came to love. I mourned the losses of some and felt anger in my heart towards those who caused harm. This is by far the darkest erotic romance I’ve read. It is most definitely not for the faint of heart. I can’t wait to hear when Howell will release the next one!
A 5 star read for me!

This could have been so much better I think.

Honestly, I loved all the characters, loved the story and plot, love this Gothem (DC comics) feel theme going on a well. Loved those elements, but I felt as though it could have been written better than it was.

When I started to read this book, I was so excited! I have never read a superhero themed erotic book, so I was very excited. I read, and kept on reading, and kept on reading, then I made to the half way mark. I was kind of bored. I mean don't et me wrong! A great story that has potential to be great, but it just wasn't cutting it for me all the way.

The characters were spot on! I loved Maggie and Cody, and I even liked how the author wrote Kyle. While reading I felt as though I already knew what was going to happen when reading these characters think and interact with others. I anticipated the last 30 or 40% of the book. Is that bad?? Loved the characters, but again the characters were not intertwined into the story very well.

The plot was ok. I kind of knew what the author was trying to portray throughout the story, so for the whole "Superhero" theme I thought it was amazing. The action was written gruesome and I loved it! Lol! Can you tell that I like action in my books?? I loved the action, but what about the erotic action? While this book is labeled as an erotic superhero novel, I felt as though it was just a superhero book with some smut in there in a couple places. And that is entirely fine! But since I know that the title names this book as an erotic tale, I thought it needed more of that.

The author gave me the kick ass story I wanted, but now I want to erotic portion of it along with it. That just needs some work.

Is this a five star or even a five star rating book? No. I feel like many things were missing throughout the book, but overall this series has potential. This first book was ok, but the next books in the series can be great because it has the potential to be.

3.5 stars overall.

I will not lie to you. This book is the shit. I have never been so in grossed in a crime fighting super hero anything. I mean I am sorry but Superman and Batman does nothing for me....well they are nice to look at. (But I do love me some batman)
Sloane Howell knocked this book out of the park. I mean this chick is super bad ass. She saves lives and she is Sexy as hell doing it too.
The Matriarch is full of hate for one particular man and she has every right to want to see this evil monster dead. He seals young girls and tortures them and makes them do awful things. He has an army of monsters too.
This book is a complete mind *uck! Everything I thought was completely wrong. I mean I was reading this book thinking all will be right in her world and then BOOM!!!! All hell breaks loose and this book blows up in my face and my world is turned upside down.
Grrrr...I want to start rambling and tell you everything but I can't...and I won't. But damn it this book is so good!!!! I am talking this needs to be a movie good.
You will get sex, hot men, blood, murder, lies, betrayal and much more while reading this book.
Sloane Howell if you happen to read this review, you already know that I dig your writing skills. BUT sweet baby Jesus this is a whole new level of writing for you. I mean you blew me away with this book. Bravo dude....you straight killed it!

Okayyyyyy, so I'm not really sure where to start because I flipping LOVED this book!!! Like I'm in love with it. Seriously.

So I should say, I absolutely love Marvel and DC. I've always wanted to find a book that had epic comic book style characters with a plot so thick you can't see the shockers coming and sex so hot you need to take a breather. That is this book.

It reminded me a lot of the TV series Gotham and Arrow (DC). The heroine, Maggie, is like a female batman and she's awesome. She's had a flipping tough life, the things she's seen are horrific and, ultimately, she not only wants to be a survivor but she wants to be the hero. She's along the lines of Black Widow, really fecking bad ass.

This isn't a fluffy book, there were bits that left my mouth agape and I rarely show reactions when reading, I've trained myself to look neutral (haha!) but I couldn't do that with this book! I only just managed to stop myself screaming 'WHATT??!!?' at my kindle, so I screamed it the author instead. :-)

I'm not one to give away spoilers, and the same goes here, any attempt to summarise the plot wouldn't do it justice or could ruin it so I'm just going to say this; if you like your books to have action, suspense, a bit of gore that will make your palms sweat, if you like your books to make you feel like you've been transported into a film, if you like your sex scenes so hot you feel the need to leave the room, if you like your books to shock you, and if you want to read a book so good you'll have no option but to read it in one sitting, then this might just be the book for you!!

This book was everything I've been looking for, it combined all my loves and did it incredibly well! Sloane's writing is amazing, you are completely taken into the book world, the images he paints with words create such a vivid picture in your head it's hard to believe you're still reading.

I've never really found a book that's made me really want to throw it at people and say 'read this, read this now, I'll even buy it for you!' but as soon as I finished this book I decided to do a giveaway for it! Have I made it clear enough yet that I loved it? I think I'd go as far as to say it's the best book I've ever read. Christmas has come early, I finally have a book that was everything I ever wanted from a book!

Okay I'm done gushing now. :-P BUY THE BOOK! It's out NOW!

I wasn't sure how I would like this book but I was really surprised to find that once I got past the jump I couldn't put it down. I'm not saying that it started off bad, but maybe I was in a book funk and it took longer to get into it.

Maggie was amazing. She had this determination about her that I really admired. She lived through a lot of bad stuff but she still tried to see the good in what she could.

I don't want to talk to much about other characters because there are a few that make such an impact on Maggie but if I talk about them the it could spoil. But I loved the main secondary characters that we meet.

So after the prologue it went back into the past and we got a look and what made Maggie the way she was at the start. While it was slow going I found that it helped us as readers come to know Maggie and the type of person that she was.

That ending! I can say I never saw it coming. Nope can't give spoilers but wow! This author really had me twisted!

Overall, this is the first book I've read by this author. The the writing was beautifully done and there was just enough description to help me imagine what I'm reading but not enough to bore me. I will be reading more books in this series because I have become invested in this world the author has written. It was fast passed and by 30% I didn't care, I needed to find out what was going to happen and I was surprised a lot at the things that went down! 4 stars #2OCCJD

I legit loved Every Single Thing about this book. The authors writing was on point, from beginning to end. Throughout the book you witness Maggie Madison at different stages of her life and can't help but fall in love with her feisty, brave soul. She's smart, sexy and witty as hell. Maggie Madison is EVEYTHING. For me, my favorite were the times when she was vulnerable , let her walls down. I mean don't get me wrong, badass alpha female fit her just fine but I fell in love with her softer side too. Her life wasn't easy, was heartbreaking ( damnit I cried)there was so much she never got to experience. Howell did an incredible job creating an amazing character and taking you on her journey to becoming The Matriarch. The storyline was absolutely refreshing. I definitely needed a female superhero in my life. This book is a must read.

Wow! A great story filled with rage, violence, sadness, sexy-time and hope. I started this book without knowledge of its content. I was in complete awe of Sloane's writing. I'm usually a HEA type reader with all the sappy love yet, this book had me. The unknown? The desire to believe in justice over revenge...outstanding! A fantastic read but watch out, it's a cliffhanger!

So, I have finally read The Matriarch and I’m not going to lie, I am SO pleasantly surprised. Being a creature of habit I often gravitate to books with similar storylines, tropes and endings BUT when a reliable source tells you, you have to read a certain book, regardless of whether it fits into your criteria; you do so.
Sloane Howell blows me away with this action packed, adrenaline fueled story about a young girl who is given the short end of the stick and forced into survival mode. Perfecting the depth of his character Maggie Madison, I am captivated by the essence and direction of his erotic superhero romance novel.

“You must be a symbol for the people. You must protect them. In nature, there is no greater protector than a mother.”

Moving to a new town with her twin brother Kyle and parents, The Madison family is on a mission to bring goodness into this place of darkness and destitution. However with different rules and regulations Maggie and her family are put in the direct line of danger and it appears that the future filled with positivity is not on the cards.

Blood, death and torture are just a smidgen of what Maggie Madison is left to endure. As she witnesses the demise of her family, she is forced into prostitution and the themes of anger, revenge and justice are born. Determined to make it right and save the young and innocent from the life she was subjected to Maggie Madison becomes The Matriarch.

Well versed in the art of sex and seduction The Matriarch uses what she knows and the skills she’s acquired along the way to become the people’s protector. Walking a fine line between justice and revenge, Sloane Howell brings to life a character that embodies strength, persistence and loyalty. Pushing the boundaries and intertwining different genres Howell successfully has readers engrossed in the Matriarch and her journey.

Showcasing his creativity Howell delivers secondary characters and subplots that enhance the action, mystery and turmoil surrounding Maggie Madison. With twists, turns and revelations that will have you on the edge of your seat, The Matriarch is a perfect combination of suspense, sex and spirit. With an ending that will leave you speechless, Sloane Howell has left his mark as one to watch. With nothing but excitement and anticipation I (not so) patiently await book two.

Justice or Revenge?

The power that emanates throughout The Matriarch relies on the motivations of justice and revenge. Sloane Howell has created a strong woman lead character, one that I have been craving for years. Maggie Madison is everything I have been hoping for; does not bend to her indecisive psyche, does not whine, knows what she’s getting in to, and still rules the entire book with her determination and even a wee bit of weakness when love sneaks through the door. You will fall in love with her. I believe this is Sloane’s strongest work and strongest character to date.

Maggie is a strong willed little girl at the beginning of this novel, when tragedy strikes her family and she must learn to become independent in a slimy underworld ruled by a man who has evil in his veins. A man she will continue to cross, satisfy, and defy repeatedly in many ways through the book. Her new world combines the greatest attributes of heroes we have read about since we were young. She has fought for and continues to fight for injustices that involve harming girls and taking them as slaves or workers. A strong Superhero character full of sex and intellect. We need her. As my Grandpa used to say, “Full of piss, vinegar, and a twist of love”.

“F-ing, killing, and finance didn’t leave a lot of room to explore my day to day romantic emotions.”
Then, he walks in to her world. “I’m still a girl…and when you hold me…it’s the safest place in the world.”

It is hard to review this book without giving too much away in terms of the plot. I must confess, I did almost call in sick or late to work to finish it in one 24-hour period, but stretched it over two nights.

This book will take you in to the darkest world our society has created, plead with your heart and your mind, rile anger and frustration, hug you with sentimentality, and then kick you in the groin and heart all over again. Moreover, you will enjoy every moment of it. (Warning, cliffhanger!) And you may start stalking Sloane and his lil bro more on Twitter as a result. In addition, plan some good time to delve in to Maggie’s world; you will not want to put it down.

I must admit that at first I had mixed feelings about this book. But once I finished it I seriously could not get it off my mind. I mean that ending was OMG!!! I did not know what to do with myself. So needless to say, I really ended up liking this book.

So Maggie/Rebekah/The Matriarch is super badass and can definitely handle herself in a fight. The action was fun to read and very interesting. I will say there wasn't a whole lot of action, but the parts where there was action was pretty damn cool I couldn't control myself.

This book is so sinister and twisted. The main heroine had to deal with a lot in her young life, some very traumatic experiences that turned her into the vigilante that she is. I never expected any of it, but it was creative and dark. Sloane Howell did a great job dropping the bread crumbs and slowing piecing Maggie's story together. I found that the most interesting as I read. I even liked the romance that began with Rebekah. Although I feel that it moved too fast and slightly took a bit of the story, but it all makes sense in the end why.

I did have some favorite scenes and that ending was explosive. Oh goodness, I have never hated a cliffhanger so much in my life than I did when this book ended. I needed more. It straight blew my mind, especially since I had my suspicions but not that. It actually made me sad and shake my head in disbelief. But man this book was wonderfully twisted.

This book is not for everyone since it deals with prostitution, torture, murder, violence, and dark sex scenes. If any of this makes you uncomfortable then I would not recommend this.

Maggie, The Matriarch, rules her life through strength and power for the rights of the weak. Her superpower ability manipulating and undermining the patriarchal powers who currently rule the world both sustain her heroic efforts and fuel her need to right the wrongs of the world. Her kryptonite is every ruling mother's weakness and she works hard stifling down those maternal emotions when dealing with the youth and underwritten. Her extraordinary strength in sexual manipulation only further fuels her abilities in knocking down her adversaries and providing them with their worst nightmares.

The Matriarch, by Sloane Howell, creatively blends the comic style genre with the very sultry underbelly of erotica in this no holds bar master piece. His ability to juxtapose Maggie’s heroism against the evil doings of the world with her softer counter-part Cody who still envisions a world of honesty and hope. Howell jumps right in from the get go harnessing Maggie’s fearlessness and her unwavering commitment to justify the wrongs of the world. His ability tackling the taboos of human trafficking, underage seduction, and other assorted swept under the rug social maladies of the world through the growth of Maggie from youth into adulthood raises the bar for mixed genre writings. Sloane Howell breathes life into the heroine and also gives birth to the ultimate antihero and mortal enemy. Well worth spending a few hours entrenching yourself in the deep dark underbelly of Maggie Madison's twisted world.

How did I not know that there was a erotic super hero genre? I have been missing out this entire time! However I am so thankful to Sloane Howell for introducing this to me. When he approached me read and review his latest book I instantly said yes before I even know what the book was about. Knowing Sloane, I knew he would not disappoint and boy was I right!

In The Matriarch by Sloane Howell we meet Maggie and well, eventually Cody. He is her main love interest but we really don't get to meet him until much later in the book. The main focus is what Maggie has had to endure in the face of a ruthless and evil man and what she is willing to do to bring him to justice.

Through it all we follow Maggie from...

This book surprised me. I was expecting to like it, scratch that love it as much as I did. Yes I like erotica, no point in lying. But I love when the female is strong. Not a simpering wisp of a girl who does what she's told. I want her to crack the whip and solve her own problems. And in this book, Maggie takes the reigns and runs it all. YEAH!

Maggie is taken from her family at an early age and pimped out. When she finally runs, she meets a man who teachers her how to fight, how to be powerful, and how to survive. After that she starts to protect others, all while trying to take down the Evil of the world. She is better than Batman, better than any super hero - except Captain American - there I draw the line. But she does her best.

Maggie the female heroine in this book reminded me of a modern day Batman/James Bond. She's hot, she's sassy and isn't afraid to do what is necessary to get the job done.

As a child she found herself slaved into human trafficking. The man who stole her family and took her childhood was one of the most powerful in the city.

Maggie is determined to get revenge and justice. Like most super hero's she ends up with two identities; the deadly vigilante and the girl who wants the normal romance relationship.

This book is dark, twisted and addictive. 4.5 stars out of 5.

This book is the beginning of a series of books and is free for kindle unlimited readers or £2.01.

Wow this book is totally epic, I was a bit sceptical at first if I'm totally honest as I have never read a Superhero Romance before specially a female superhero .
But my god this book was great on so many levels .

Maggie Madison has her hole world turned upside down, there's a lot of twists and rocky turns in this book but it will have you sitting on the edge of your seat biting your nails , and in need of more and more . It's the first time I have read anything by this Author and I have to say I will make sure I read all of Sloane Howells books.

This is the first book of the trilogy so I am now patiently waiting for book 2 .

Oh so good!!!

This book was so good!! I was curious how they could make a superhero erotic, but Sloane sure did!!! There's so much deceit and plot twists, it had me on the edge of my seat the whole time!!! Maggie is so power and enduring, she overcame so much and did what she set out to do. I also liked how Sloane helped us see what was happening through a few different chapters eyes. We got a little "behind the scenes" type glimpses and they were great!! This left me wanting more sooo bad!! Bring on the next one!

I don't know quite where to start with this book as I don't do spoilers but.........
OMG I loved every single page. There were plots within plots. Baddies who you thought were good guys. I was hooked very quickly and found it really hard to put down but with 3 kids I had too.
I can't wait for the second part of the trilogy to come out.
