I love this beautiful book and every story in it!

Hooh-Strah-Dooh (Book 1)
I quite enjoyed this book and just read it in under 2 hours as once I started it, I could not put it down. We are treated to Anne's POV as she takes us through a glimpse into her tragic life with her family, her escape from said family, finding Brian and so much more ( you won't get any spoilers from me). Having spent much time in Boston, I quite appreciate the setting of Southie and find it generally accurate. Mostly well-spoken, I did find some typos but nothing that distracted from the story. Anne treats us to tragedy, drama, adventure, action and a bit of romance. Her first story is wrapped up neatly so I'm not left hanging terribly but I am eagerly awaiting more as I became attached to these characters and this setting during my brief exposure.

Boabhan Sith (Book 2)
The book sucks me right in with its vivid descriptions, dark aura and an air of mystery. As I read on, I become submerged into this world Hoots has created in the way only she can. The past comes alive yet, I find myself laughing at subtle pop culture jabs. We are treated to the POV of a character who is realistic about his less-than-ideal situation while remembering to point out the positives in his life simultaneously – demonstrating and overall hopeful attitude. I find this refreshing and early on am growing attached to him.

Before I know it I am submerged deeper still, there is action and before it’s over it causes me to have some very interesting thoughts and internal debates. A wild read from start to finish – highly recommend.

Strigoi (Book 3)
This book sucked me right in and the time I spent submerged into this world felt like mere minutes; I do hope there is more to come in this series and with this particular breed of vampire. Set in Romania, it manages to combine the fascinating lifestyles of travelers, some magic and of course the wonders of the Strigoi. The only downside to this book was that it was over so quickly. There is love, deception, there are legends and surprises. Hoots does well to paint a clear picture for the reader so that it truly felt like I was in the woods of Romania watching this tale unfold.

Jianshi (Book 4)
This is the forth book in Hoots’ ‘World of Vampires’ series and I still feel like I’ll never be able to get enough. As this one opens and proceeds to acquaint me with the situation, I am taken back several decades to a fascinating (and trying) time in history; it feels so real as if I’ve been dropped right into the time and place described. I love a book that will just force me to escape for a little while like this! As the novel goes on, it takes a slightly different-than-predicted turned, something I always appreciate and interestingly, revealed an ironic outcome. It also serves to remind the reader of the evils of greed – all of that in under 50 pages making for a quick, intriguing read!

This collection contains four stories, each devoted to a special kind of vampire: Hooh-Strah-Dooh, Baobhan Sith, Strigoi and Jiangshi. The concept sounded promising and diversified, especially when depicting the differences and origins of each type of vampire. However, that was exactly what I was missing here. The stories were exchangeable and mostly uninspired - nothing I had not read somewhere else before.

The first story was a boring and uninventive mixture of vampire romance - 1 star. The second story was just plain boring - 1 star. The third story took place in Romania with an evil vampire living in a castle (of course) and an ancient spell adding just enough mystery to pique my curiosity for the first time since I opened the book - 2 stars. The one story that made this collection almost worthwhile was the last one titled 'Jiangshi', which not only explained the history of this special kind of vampire in sufficient detail, but also delivered a very original and unusual tale about guild, remorse and revenge - 3 stars.

Conclusion: if you are looking for something different in the vampire genre, go searching elsewhere or read only the last story. If you are not too picky and in desperate need of your next vampire fix, this may keep you going for a little while longer.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

A World of Vampires is a collection of four short stories about four very different vampiric creatures. Being a big fan of vampire novels, you can imagine why I was drawn to this book. Each story is unique in that they do feature a different type of vampire. However, I felt the author glossed over the details of what makes each vampire unique. This was really what I wanted to get as a reader out of a story concept like this. The writing style was fine and pace was steady. Very creative take on the vampire myths of the world. In the end, I felt it could have been executed a little better.

This book is composed of four short stories of vampires and the difference between them..it was ok but I honestly thought it was only one story next time I guess I should read the description. Although it was nice learning about different kinds of vampires.
