Susan B. Anderson's Kids’ Knitting Workshop is a well organized and helpful tutorial for beginning knitters. The book is targeted to children and young adults, with projects that are focused on their demographics. However, as an experience crocheter with only a nominal knowledge of knitting I found the guide to be extremely helpful. While aimed at the younger set, I think adult knitters could use the information and tutorials to master the skill as well. I wish I had this book handy this first time I attempted to knit. With this guide I think I can make great strides in my skill set. I already feel more comfortable with the skill set, and think that anyone interested in doing the same could benefit from the book as well. I think kids and adults alike will find the guide well organized and helpful. The photographs, illustrations, and information combine to make the book readable and easily understood by all skill levels. The chapter on stocking your toolbox and sourcing yarn; as well as the advice on starting a knitting group and connecting with local knitting communities, charity knitting, and more was a nice bonus.
Susan B. Anderson's Kids’ Knitting Workshop is a helpful and very informative resource for children (and adults) that want to master knitting.
I need this book! I began knitting a few years ago. I had never knitted before. I thankfully had a great teacher who helped me step by step in a library knitting group. Now I am partially teaching the class. I was hoping this book would help bring younger knitters to our group or at least increase their interest in the topic. After reading it, I think any new knitter could use this book. Anderson has clear step by step instructions about reading a pattern, how to cast on, what a yarn label says and so much more.
If you are new to knitting or just need a refresher course, this book is perfect.
If you are a parent or grandparent, this is the perfect book to use to teach the next generation to knit. You will find helpful hints on what you can do to make knitting fun.
I had taken my girls to the library and while I was waiting for them to find books and fill out paperwork for the reading program and playing a game, I saw this book on a shelf and decided to borrow it (what can I say, for every 5 I borrow, I get an entry into a prize, too). I flipped through the book and saw something new to teach my daughter. Then I found another thing that I wanted to make and marked it. Then I started teaching my daughter how to make the items (bracelets). The projects are well photographed and the directions for new techniques are very easy to understand and good for learning
Note: I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. That's what I'm sharing. ***** THIS is the book I needed when I first tried knitting on my own. I checked out numerous books from the library about knitting in order to decipher knitting terminology and methods as well as searching for clear illustrations and explanations of what seemed to be common sense to long-time knitters. I wasn't. The world of knitting was baffling to me.
Ten years later and many books and videos and help requests later I find everything I struggled to understand in one place - and all offered with encouragement and hope for the beginner. And experienced.
The projects included range from simple to advanced with The author teaching the skills necessary - not all at once at the begin fun so you have to keep flipping back and forth and get frustrated before you begin - right before you use them.
She offers several projects to make after learning one skill so a new knitter can gain mastery (or at least comfort and familiarity) with the new skill before moving ahead.
I believe an experienced knitter would enjoy these quick projects as well as a beginner.
I plan to use this book to teach my children how to knit - because the projects are simple and quickly completed. My first project was a scarf and by row 30, I was wishing I'd never started. I didn't think it would EVER end. Ms. Anderson's first suggest project is a hat. A hat!! I would have felt like an invincible knitter right off the bat had I tried that!
Enough adjectives. I loved it. I can't wait to share this with my own children and nieces and nephews.
A very informative and useful book for teaching children to knit. The instructions are straight forward and clear. A good range of patterns from beginners to more challenging and intricate ones. Highly recommended. I was given a digital copy of this book by the publisher via Netgalley in return for an honest unbiased review.
The projects in this book go from simple to more complex and are directed towards adults teaching children how to knit. They are mostly in the round and the book is directed mostly towards girls.
Phenomenal crafting book about teaching kids to knit. I thought it would help me understand knitting better, since I seem to be unable to understand how to do it, even though I can crochet. Alas, I think I am a lost cause….not even a kids’ book will help me.
Oh well, back to YouTube.
This novel is perfect for beginners of ALL ages. Except me lol.
ARC generously provided by publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is a great book for children to start the art of knitting. However it is not just for children. I found it very informational and helpful. I do know how to knit however by no means am I an expert. This book is not only for children but for beginner knitters. This is a great way for my children and I to learn a craft together that they can spend a lifetime enjoying.
This is a well written, well illustrated book that is an excellent tool to help children learn to knit. With adult guidance even young children can follow the easy to read illustrations. A wide variety of patterns from bracelets to stuffed animals, hats to blankets. Chapters on how to choose yarns, needles and how to care for the projects you make. Would be a great Christmas gift and would be a valuable item in any knitter's library.
Easy to read instructions and large illustrations make Susan B. Anderson's Kids' Knitting Workshop the perfect introduction to the craft. Beautiful color photographs help the novice knitter see the end result and lessons in Chapter 5 "Fixing your mistakes" takes some of the frustration out of first-time knitting projects. Excellent source for anyone, not just kids, who are just starting to knit.
