Billy is alone, but he's used to it. After being shot six years ago, the love of his life left him in the hospital, fighting for his life.

It left him an empty shell of a man and he no longer wants the responsibility of looking after anyone; he's barely looking after himself. Alcohol is the only thing he's interested in. That is until Blake, his old FBI partner shows up unexpectedly. Heather doesn't want to be saved. She's just fine being on her own. She's fought for the last six years to survive, trying to outrun the mistake that cost her everything. When Billy shows up out of the blue, she's forced to face the pain that still threatens to rip her apart. When Billy goes back into the FBI the danger is insurmountable, but he sees no other way. He's doing it for redemption; redemption for all the damage he's caused and the monster he's become.

He's willing to risk his life to avenge Heather, but will it all come crashing down this time, solidifying their end once and for all?

About the author

Kelly Miles

Kelly Miles is an author, editor and publisher, but her greatest accomplishments are being a wife and mother. She lives in a small town in Tennessee, minutes from her childhood home. The youngest of three siblings, Kelly has always loved reading and writing short stories. To date, she has published two novels, MONTANA SKY and BACK TO ME. Both are available through Amazon.com.

In addition, she is currently working on her third book, BLAKE'S HOPE, set for release in mid-late 2016. All three books are considered a series, but can certainly be read as stand-alone novels as well. TORMENTED is in the works for 2017.

Kelly has two teenage boys who keep her busy. She has been fortunate enough to be a stay-at-home mom, which has afforded her the opportunity to spend more time with her children, and of course, to write. Writing is her passion. Her goal is to spread the love for her characters, her stories, and invite you into another world. Sometimes the writing is difficult, but she enjoys the creativity that it allows. Her hope is to spread the joy, and yes, sometimes torturing world of her craft.

This is not the genre that I would normally read. It looked like a romance novel. I took it on a recommendation. I’m so glad I did.
The story is told from the perspectives of Heather and Billy. It tells the story of a broken man who has to track down his lost love. But it’s not quite that simple. There are many shadowy elements to the story that will keep you on your toes right to the end. As a story in itself it is superbly done. It has elements of cat and mouse, loss, love, action, and mystery.
But it’s the way the author brings it all together that makes the book leap out at you. The story between Heather and Billy is told with such passion and force that it will leave you spent. The pages unfold with thoughts from them both, giving the reader insight into each character. The love and tension between them is such, that the reader cannot wait to turn the pages to see what the other is thinking. You can see the commitment and skill with which Miss Miles weaves her web around them.
I now need to read her first and third book as it looks like they all connected. This could be made into a mini-series. It’s that good. Well done.

I am not a 100% sure on how to start this review because my brains have a hard time getting past the drop dead gorgeous piece of man candy on the cover. It’s a struggle, I was very partial to Nathan Weller who embodies Romeo Anderson from The Hashtag Series, but whomever the model is on the Back to Me cover, please feel free to wrap him in a bow and send him my way if ever you are visiting Europe. Before I forget, can we please have a name?!

I really loved it, and I know that in a few week’s time I will likely be reading it again and certainly get my hands on any existing or upcoming books from Kelly. I was really glad that I have had the opportunity to discover a new author and a possible series of books based on the close relationships of the main and secondary characters (Like Luke, Lauren and Blake) in this book.

I absolutely adore Romantic Suspense genre, so anytime a book comes up for review, I have always requested it - bit with less time and my TBR and ARC requests over-flowing, I had decided to be a little discriminating but somehow the blurb of this book definitely caught my interest!

This is a second chance story, so you should definitely expect a wide range of emotions with their foundation being heart wrenching angst!

We meet Billy at the start of the book - a drunk of his tush Billy, who has retreated from the world and reality to be honest! His drunkenness is interrupted when he receives a visitor from his former life, who enlightens him on the fact that his ex-girfriend who now works in a strip club is under threat from his former enemy - an ex, who left him in the hospital when he was battling for his life and vanished without a trace.

Heather is a girl who lives with regrets - and really doesn't do much living beyond eating, working and sleeping. She fell in love with a cop and left that cop when things got tough- although to be fair to her, everything that happened would have overwhelmed any one, so I decided to give her a fighting chance.

This honestly was a little underwhelming read for me - mostly because of Heather - she was definitely all over the place - her emotions and actions left a little to be desired and I couldn't really connect with her, but Billy on the other hand seemed like a stand-up guy even though he acted like a jerk at times!

But honestly, I loved how the mystery and the bad guys in this book gave me the shivers and although it might have had a predictable plot line - I did enjoy reading this one. Last point, though, it did somehow seem stretched at times, the plot I mean and but it did jerk back into place without too much fuss though.

A definitely enjoyable read for those who would love to leave reality for a while!

Well-developed characters and just the right amount of action!

One thing I have to say is that I enjoyed the first-person narrative. It’s not my first time reading first-person, but what I really liked about it this time was the way we got both perspectives. The readers get to see each scene from both points of view – the hero’s and the heroine’s. It showed just have easily misunderstandings can occur.

My heart went out to the lovers. They each had suffered tremendous pain, and neither had been able to move on without the other. The strong bond between them was amazing, and I wanted them to figure things out.

I have to say, at times, there seemed to be an abundance amount of detail that slowed the pace a little too much for me. I ended up skimming in some areas, and there were moments I got a little frustrated with the back-and-forth of the lovers. I understood their motivations, I just didn’t always agree with the actions.

There were a lot of characters in this book. For a moment, I thought I’d have to write them own in order to keep up with all that was going on. There was some mystery that was welcoming, however, it wasn’t hard to figure out. I prefer a little more of a challenge, but nonetheless, it made the story better.

This is the first book by this author I've read, but now feel the need to read her other two books as well...her writing is just that good. This is the story of Billy and Heather told from both of their first person views. One might think that can get too busy or confusing, but Ms Miles does a wonderful job of weaving their thoughts and actions in such a way that the reader is captivated.

There are enough different elements contained within the story that it could appeal to a wide range of readers...it is not simply a love story. It is the story of a lost man driven to recapture what his past life has cost him...and the woman that drives him. But equally, she's driving herself from the love she lost as well.

This book was provided by the author for my honest review.

I received this book from the Goodreads First Reads program.

I loved the premise and the main story points. The characters were complex. They were tortured souls. I was not a fan of how we jumped from perspective to perspective. I don't usually mind a changing narrator, but so much of the story was repeated. I didn't need every nuance from both perspectives. Aside from the redundancy I really liked it.

Emotionally Beautiful!
Billy and Heather had the fight of their lives. Remarkable enough, that their love was just strong enough to keep them going through the hell storm and in the end, allowing them the happy ever after. A Must Read Love Story!
