For months Caleb Falcon has been avoiding a real estate mogul from Atlanta who’s been trying to buy his ancestral lands in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Falcon, a bear shifter and the town sheriff, wants only to be left alone and he’s not looking to make any changes in his life in the foreseeable future. That is, until he stops a big, expensive SUV flying up the mountain road to Falcon’s Ridge and meets its sexy driver, Connor Rhodes. Falcon knows instantly that Connor is his mate, but he also learns that Connor is the son of the real estate developer who’s after his land, and that he hates being in the country with no city conveniences and no electronics that work. A romance between them has no chance of working out.
Connor is struggling with his feelings too, but he’s up for a sexy fling with the handsome, burly cop, and he’s sure he can simply walk away when it’s time to go back home. They both try to ignore their feelings for each other and the passion that has ignited between them, but the urge to mate is growing worse every day, and if Connor doesn’t stop flaunting his body in that skimpy underwear, Falcon won’t be responsible for what happens.
They both have to learn to face the truth about themselves and find their own inner strengths before they can come together, and discover that the mutual attraction they feel isn’t just a pleasant diversion, but a love that will change both of their lives forever.

This is the first book I’ve read by this author, and I enjoyed the romance that developed between a big, burly bear shifter who happens to be the town sheriff and head of his clan and the young gay man, the family black sheep who has come to make an offer on land that’s been in the Falcon family for years.
When he arrives on the outskirts of Falcon’s Ridge, Connor Rhodes is not surprised to be pulled over for speeding by the local sheriff. What he is surprised at is the size of the sheriff, his gorgeous silver-gray eyes, and the hint of interest he spots in those eyes. Connor flirts outrageously, but as expected, gets nowhere with the sexy guy in uniform. Connor is there on behalf of his father whose sole purpose seems to be to get the land surrounding the town for real estate development. Connor is only there because his other brothers weren’t available and doubts he’ll be very effective, but he decides to enjoy his mini-vacation anyway.
Caleb, known to all as Falcon, is drawn to the young guy, and when he pulls him over the next day for what appears to be drunken driving, he’s shocked by the feelings he’s rapidly developing for Connor. Consulting with his grandmother, he finds out that members of his clan can have a fated mate, and though he doesn’t want him, he suspects Connor may be his. When his desire and need to take care of Connor overrule his good sense, he marks Connor with the mating bite. Finding out there’s no way out of it, the only thing he can do is confess about the mating, and about the fact that he’s a bear shifter.
Both men have to face some truths and overcome the factors against them. Connor is a city boy, and Falcon is the clan leader, so there’s no way he can leave the area. Add to that the facts that Connor’s dad wants that land no matter what; Falcon’s grandmother informs him either or both men will become ill and possibly die if they are separated; and the decisions that need to be made could be a matter of life or death.
This story was quite good as well as fun and interesting. Though some aspects were predictable, the characters themselves were well-rounded, and the secondary characters will likely star in their own stories in the future. A quick and easy read, I’d recommend this to those who enjoy shifter stories as well as stories of soulmates and true love.

Caleb is a bear shifter who doesn’t quite believe the stories about fated mates. Regardless, he isn’t looking for a relationship and he certainly isn’t interested in some uppity guy from Atlanta who drives too fast and is trying to buy his ancestral land.
Connor is trying to get out from under his father’s thumb. He’d love to be a writer but that doesn’t meet Daddy’s requirements. When he meets the enigmatic Caleb he’s attracted but knows there’s no future there.
When Caleb and Connor give in to their attraction things suddenly get real and fast. Both have to make their minds up quickly or risk losing everything.

This is a quick little fated mate story. It’s full of charming dialog and some sweaty smexy times. There’s nothing ground breaking here but it was well-written and an enjoyable read.
I recommend it.

A bear shifter as a town sheriff is interesting enough, in my mind, to want to read this story. But then he is also the head of the local bearshifter clan, owns most of the land in the vicinity, and has an issue with the thought of mating. Of course he ends up running into a “city boy” who has been sent to town to persuade him to sell the land to a real estate developer – said boy’s father – and the newcomer’s scent soon drives him crazy. Not to mention the lust he feels, and both ring major alarm bells in the sheriff’s mind. Too bad there is nothing much he can do… and I had great fun watching him try to wriggle his way out of it!

Loved loved loved this book! I sincerely hope Susan Scott has plans for a second book in this series! I love a bear shifter story!
Connor is a rich brat who is ostracized by his real estate mogul daddy and never amounts to much according to his dad because he is gay. He gets sent to buy land in the country from an owner who has refused to sell in the past to his father.
Falcon. Well....Falcon is every man and woman's wet dream! And he is a bear shifter which makes him Uber sexy! He is the sheriff of the small town and owner of said land.
Can Connor do what his father wants or will he acquire a different acquisition his heart can't do without?

November 16, 2016Not gonna lie, this was bad. When I start to edit a book it's never a good sign cause I'm shite at editing. The story had potential but I skimmed most of it including the sex and biting. Yup, this fell flat and hard. *splat* Shame on me for wasting time and money.

Really cute
This is my first book by Susan Scott and I really enjoyed it. I liked vs shifter books and rated mates and this one was well done. I liked that they met when Falcon stopped Connor for speeding. I loved that Falcon was part Native American. This was a fast fun read and I'm definitely interested to see Calvin's brother and cousin get stories of their own. Maybe one involving a cute guy named Blake.
