Private Detective Gen Delacourt goes to Half Moon Bay to locate a vanished scuba diver, only to discover that the mystery man is not who he said he was … and neither is anyone else. As Gen investigates, she faces her fears about the ocean, rebuilds her relationship with fiancé Mack Hackett, and discovers beyond a doubt that something’s fishy, all right, but it’s not the sea life.
Hello readers! I am the author of the Gen Delacourt Mystery Series, which includes Mark of the Loon, The Last Fairytale, Paint Me Gone, A Thousand Tombs, Swindle Town, Lock the Cellar Door, Midnight at Half Moon Bay, and The India Archives.
#7 in the Gen Delacourt series, Molly Greene has provided another well written and interesting mystery that features the California coastal town of Half Moon Bay and its fishing and tourist activities. At the outset Gen Delacourt accepts a seemingly low stress job offered by a local boat captain to find a missing person. She soon discovers the task is much more complicated than she envisioned. Gen Delacourt diligently plows ahead and after several misleading stops and turns ultimately solves the mystery of Midnight at Half Moon Bay. The story is consistently interesting and I found it enjoyable throughout. To me the mystery has the significant added benefit of being set in a fresh site and unique coastal community. I particularly enjoyed visiting this beautiful part of California with Molly Greene's cast of characters. I'm looking forward to reading #8 in the series and discovering where she will take Gen and her readers next.
I eat up the Gen Delacourt Mysteries. This seventh book was like sitting down with an old friend. Delacourt is a strong female lead in the stories and I love that about her. Her character is not without some weaknesses but her strength of character seems to overcome those most of the time.
Set in beautiful Half Moon Bay, I wanted to not only have a glass of wine with the characters, I wanted to do it in that setting. I absolutely love the northern coast of California. Okay, so Half Moon Bay is not really northern California but south of San Francisco. I have been there so enjoy reading about the area.
This mystery evolved in ways even I couldn't imagine at the start. There were twists and turns I was guessing at and not a single guess was right. I do enjoy when an author outfoxes me.
Reading this series is like visiting old friends. Gen was a lawyer, left that part of her life behind and became private investigator. In this story always mischievous Gen gets in trouble, missing treasure hunter and treasures. Her relationship with Mack is improving too.
I love the depth of the characters in this series. I have enjoyed seeing Gen and Mack grow into one of my all time favorite couples. From the very beginning, Molly Has developed not only her stories, but each character, giving us a rich and colorful cast of characters. She's made me feel like I WANT to be friends with these people!
This is the first of her series that won't be placed on my Favorites shelf. I just didn't find it engaging at all, and would lay it down for days at a time before picking it back up. maybe that was part of the problem? All I know is that while reading, my mind would start wandering to PC games I could be playing! Didn't find it exciting at all, and found the ending, totally underwhelming, a let down.
Another hit! I have loved this Gen Delacourt series! Ready to start book 9 and found a companion piece from Molly Green's reader club. It did not end the way I had expected it would. I won't explain that due to it would be a spoiler. Highly recommend this series. They are all stand alone novels, but watching Gen grow is worth reading them in order.
This author is worth checking into! We start the book thinking Gen loses the love of her life, running away to solve a mystery and forget herself, to finding her love waiting and a juicy mystery.
