This has two of Tot's favorites, cats and the moon. She's a wee witch.

Scaredy Cat is a cute board book in the shape of a cat. The pages are sturdy, glossy, and easy to wipe away globs of jelly. Scaredy Cat has bright yellow eyes as big as the moon. It is Halloween night and Scaredy Cat is on the prowl. A tiny mouse follows the cat and when Scaredy Cat looks behind him, the mouse bears a huge smile. Across the Halloween night, Scaredy Cat runs until he makes it home and snuggles in his bed . . . with the mouse.

The text has a singsong quality and it repeats the same first line.

This is a bright, rhyming board book for the youngest Halloween celebrants. A big-eyed kitty roams a Halloween scene, and then takes a nap.

Warning: review has spoilers. Over the course of this six page book our protagonist -- the so-called Scaredy Cat -- takes a journey on Halloween night. The narration appears to be from the perspective of an unnamed mouse who appears on each left page, while Scaredy Cat performs some action on the right page. Cat and mouse are natural adversaries, so this juxtaposition of a mouse following around a cat really heightens the dramatic tension. We are held in tantalizing suspense as to the relationship between these two individuals until the final page when we discover they are romantically involved. In the end, we learn to appreciate that even a frightened black cat on Halloween night can overcome species bias and find love in an otherwise fear-inducing world.
