**I received this audiobook in exchange for a honest review**

I was pleasantly surprised by this one! Somehow, it had slipped between the cracks and I forgot I had it. sorry Richard! the story is very good and kept my attention and suspense. who is this ancient enemy? is it the same one and how is he still alive? and so on. the characters are believable and I liked them. the only critiques I have for this audiobook is 1) honey, drop the German accent and just read it regular and 2) the cops are sure going along with a lot. There is religious stuff in here but it never felt preachy to me. those are the character's believes and I'm ok with that. to each his/her own. overall, this was a good time and I'd definitely read or listen to more by this author.

Disclaimer.
I had requested and received audible version of this book for free from the author, in exchange for an unbiased review.

What I liked about the book -
I didn't have high expectations from the book, but by the time I had finished listening to it, I had come out impressed. The book has a tight plot, with some great scene setup and good character building. The deaths and mystery surrounding the curse kept me on the edge of my seat, wanting to know what happens next. It's not a predictable story and keeps you guessing. Thus thee end is so much satisfactory.

What I disliked about the book -
Nothing specific that I can think of.

Narration -
Narration by Melissa Williams is very well done. She sets the eerie atmosphere perfectly and delivers a good performance.

I have enjoyed a number of books by this author and while I still prefer his Wanderers series to the others he has done, this was another good listen with it edging more towards the horror end of the fantasy genre.

Unbeknownst to her, Greta's family had suffered greatly over the years due to a monstrous and seemingly immortal enemy who would keeping finding them and wiping out as much of a generation as he could before the others escaped and now he has returned to finally finish this work. Beyond the basic premise of the book, the author has used a number of interesting ideas to further enhance the overall story and has a cast of relatively normal people who are thrown into this horrific situation.

The choice of this narrator was a very good one, she really manages to bring the main character to life with her performance while also managing to be sufficiently distinctive with the rest of the supporting cast too, nicely enhancing the book in the process.

Overall, this was another enjoyable listen from this author and a nicely self-contained story.

A psychic, a monster, and a mystery!

Gretta and Virgil move into the family house after he is injured. Most of her family lives extremely close. Since she was a kid she's always had "feelings" or an extra sense but when her family starts dying from animal attacks that she see's her ability is ramped up a level. The deaths in her family aren't random but related somehow to a family curse.

What I loved best about this book wasn't the tight writing, plot line, great character building or suspense but that the author did all that and nailed the whole small town life and close knit family thing. It added so much depth to an already amazing story. And I was on the edge of my seat wanting to know more about the family curse and whatever was picking off the family.

A lot of credit goes to the narrator as well. She pulled off accents and further added depth to the characters. This is one you won't want to put down so carve out a long day and listen!

Nothing like ancient evil in Alabama! I love scary/horror stories, and this one was awesome! A long-ago and thought dormant family curse is unleashed when Greta and Virgil move into a family home, and all hell literally breaks loose. It always finds you.
Deaths come. When will it stop!? Gripping, creepy, scary! I was captivated from beginning to end, great supernatural thriller! Enjoyed both writing and narration, am definitely interested in more from both! :)

Good read.
When I first started reading this book I wasnt sure why the tiny, seemingly, non important details were there. It felt as if the book was a drawn out and taking to long to get from here to there. But I decided to stick with it, and I am glad I did. This book was amazing! And the ending will have you guessing. Its hard not to reveal spoilers but when an Evil is after your family, an evil no one seems to remember came from, or why they have cursed you, how do you fight it off??

This was an engaging and well-written book, riveting and interesting and really well constructed.
I deducted one star because the ending was predictable and somewhat traditional for the subject matter and a bit of a let down for what was otherwise quite a page turner. You won't regret reading this book - don't let the ending get you down.
