Welcome to Mossy Creek. We’re small and easy-going with a lot of community pride and camaraderie. What we don’t have a lot of is crime. A close-knit laid-back little borough, so close to the southern border of Pennsylvania we’re almost in West Virginia. Townsfolk like to “We’re south enough to lend credence to our slight drawl, but sufficiently north of the Mason-Dixon to be ‘damn Yankees’.”None of us were prepared for murder … especially involving a teenager.
This was a really fun murder mystery that takes place in a small town, that you can't help but love. I loved the main character even though her grammar was over the top fantastic. (Grammar is something I really should work on) This book has a really cute plot and a cute chief of police and let me just say I can't wait to see where that leads.
Simply put this is a fantastic, cute fun read. It is pretty short so you can finish it quickly. As far as the mystery goes it is well developed and will keep you guessing until the big reveal. Such a fun book.
I had started this on vacation, so it took me a little longer to get it finished. I liked the way it was told from Maggie's viewpoint but a little different from normal first person. It was like she was talking to an audience and made it kind of comical at times. Mossy Creek sounds like it would be a nice little town, and everyone came off as very down home--southern but not in the south. It was fun how Wyatt and Maggie, who are a little older, found each other after having worked together for quite some time. Being older, they didn't waste any time.
All in all, I liked the story and was surprised by who the killer was, although it had crossed my mind a few times. The take down sounded pretty cool--it was told by Maggie in retrospect as having happened a couple of weeks ago as she wrapped things up at the end. I appreciated that the whole mystery was solved and there were no dangling threads. I imagine I'll read on in the series if it's available on Kindle Unlimited.
I hadn't been much of a reader of these sorts of books, but I took a chance on this one, partially because I loved the blurb and partially because I thought the cover was really cute. I was blown away by just how much I loved this womanly sleuth read!
The author has written the story exceptionally well. While it is a shorter read, it doesn't lack in detail or excitement. I really liked that so much attention was paid to detail, both for the mystery to be solved and for the characters.
I found it really easy to connect and jump right in And be a part of the story, as the characters were well defined, had great personalities and they stuck to their tendencies, making them very real. I also liked how the characters interacted with each other.
The story was a very light-hearted, fun detective style story. I truly found it enjoyable and very much look forward to reading more from this author.
I was unpleasantly surprised by the amount of sex in this "cozy". Too much fantasizing, too much overt flirtations to the point of sexual harassment by both Chief Wyatt and Maggie. The actual mystery was interesting but the killer was almost too obvious. I love reading cozies that are challenging and interesting and clean. I like a bit of light romance if it adds to the story. I don't understand how a half naked protagonist baking cookies in a hot oven adds any value to the story. If nothing else there should've been a safety warning about not to attempt this at home.
Magdelena Elizabeth Susannah Maria-Louise Mercer lives in Mossy Creek. She is a widowed mother of two grown boys who is the admin-specialist and dispatcher for the local P.D. She works with hunky Chief of Police, Wyatt Madison. When Wyatt's goddaughter, teenager Miranda Richards is discovered hanging out in the middle of the creek, the police department gets busy looking for clues, questioning residents, and piecing together evidence in order to solve her murder. I really liked the main characters in this book and their budding romance. Although it was an easy murder to solve, it was a lot of fun to read and I look forward to reading about future Mossy Creek adventures.
This was a cute, quick read. It was entertaining fluff. I don’t mean that in a bad way, sometimes fluffy is better than serious, depends on your mood. It was pretty well written, relatively few editing errors, and I liked that the protagonist seemed to be writing to the reader, like a really long letter, or a phone call, or maybe a chance meeting and a cup of coffee, or a mix of all three. Good stuff.
I want to re-read this book. It was so good, I am afraid I might have missed something. This is definitely a 'can't put it down' book. A real page turner, not just to see if the two main characters will keep dancing around each other, but to find out who did the deed. If you are a mystery lover I strongly advise reading this one.
I read cozy mysteries so I can avoid sex and graphic bloodshed. While this book didn't go over the top with it, there was more than I was expecting. I did enjoy the mystery, but just skimmed chapters 24,25,26. I wasn't interested in Maggie and her boss's naked time. I don't think I'll be continuing with this series.
Pleasant, but the point of view was a bit hard to take.
The narrator was supposed to be a woman with grown children, in her forties, but sometimes sounded more like 12 and others more like 80. It was distracting to the rather simple mystery and even to the romantic aspects.
I have mixed reviews about this book. I enjoyed it but there was too much romance in it for me. I would say about 60% of the book is a romance between the Police Chief and the Dispatcher and the rest is about a murder. It is listed as a romance/cozy. It was an easy read and the killer was easy to figure out but it was still very interesting. Had some great local characters in it so of course that gives you several suspects. I think if there had been more focus on the town and the murder and less on if the Chief and Dispatcher were going to have sex it would have been a great mystery.
This was a cute, light read. It was fairly predictable but had some enjoyable characters. I had a hard time with the main character at times because she seemed to jump around in personality. I think it says she is in her mid-forties, but sometimes she reads as a sixty-something granny and other times she is swooning like a teenager, with various stops in between. The escalation of the romance felt a little rushed as well. I'm not sure I will be continuing the series, but it was a bit of fun entertainment.
This was an entertaining and most enjoyable story. The characters were interesting and the sort of people one would enjoy knowing and having as friends. I actually laughed out loud at times when Maggie was contemplating her next move. I can't wait to get back to Mossy Creek.
I love cozy mysteries, and Mossy Creek is a great cozy mystery. It is a light-hearted mystery with great characters, a hunky Sheriff, and a little romance. The perfect cozy mystery for a winter day.
