LOVE RIVALS Aoi appears to finally be coming to terms with her feelings for Shusei. But before she can come to a conclusion, she witnesses a shocking scene between Shusei and a beautiful woman. However, it turns out that Shusei is not the only one who's popular with the opposite sex, as a younger rival enters the fray and vies for Aoi's attention. One boy is enough headache, but what will Aoi do with two gorgeous boys as love interests?
this series is my guilty pleasure. THERE, I SAID IT. shusei's such a little shit and there are so many unserious moments, but i simply can't stop loving it 😭
can someone tell me why the fuck the 2nd lead started acting like a dog ? 😃 ( like literally, he even said it himself ) he literally crawled at the fmc's feet and told her he was in love with her because she smiled at him and was kind to him like one time 2 years ago ???
The Sister is really odd, who does that? And that kid Shouta, WHAT? He was really creepy tbh, what was with the furry vibes. But the main storyline is interesting. And pretty cute!
Shuusei's sister visits and he and Aoi decide to act like a couple so she will stop bugging Shuusei about moving in with her while she's between guys. It goes kinda well until the sister demands they kiss... then it falls completely apart.
A new guy (Komine) enters the picture and he's got a thing for Aoi won't leave her alone, he wants her to like him back, even going so far as to play up that she's his master and he'll do whatever she wants. Weird guy. Shuusei's apartment is finally fixed and ready to go, he moves out and Komine moves in with Aoi, without her consent kinda. It doesn't go quite as Komine played and by the end of it, Shuusei's apartment is ruined again and he must move in with Aoi once more.
I'm really rooting for these two. I think they are so freaking cute together. The only thing I don't like how sometimes Aoi cries for no reason. Like you'd think she'd want Shuusei to kiss her but she starts crying instead. It really makes no sense to me. If I liked a guy and we had to pretend to date, I'd kiss him, a lot. Not cry when he tried. I just don't get it at all honestly.
Besides for that, I'm still enjoying this story and I hope that our couple can finally move on without the weird Komine in the picture. The art is still stunning and I can't wait to read the next one.
Okay—what is this? Where's the punch? Or the jab? Rival boy deserves it
2.5 out of 5 stars
First, I ABANDONED THIS BOOK IN MY TEEN YEARS BECAUSE VOL 1 ENDED WITH NOT VERY ENGAGING (FOR ME) CLIFFHANGER. I really hate love triangles so much at the time, even now!! AND THEN WHEN I STARTED THIS BOOK, WITH DEEP BREATHS, I EVEN TRIED TO FINISH A WHOLESOME OTHER SERIES BEFORE I DIVE HERE BECAUSE I'M STILL AFRAID TO CONTINUE THIS AND THEN YOU'RE GOING TO TELL ME THAT MY LIFE-LONG, OKAY NOT LIFE-LONG—THAT I SPENT HALF OF MY LIFE (YEA KINDA) IGNORING THE SEQUELS OF THIS SERIES BECAUSE I THOUGHT THERE'S AN IRRITATING LOVE RIVAL THAT I JUST CAN'T STAND ONLY TO FIND OUT TODAY THAT IT WAS SHUSEI'S FRIGGIN BIG SISTER? NO!!!! I'm such a dork, I know!
Second, what the frig is that kouhai rival? Are you serious? I mean, I was kinda still shaky when I first saw the guy. I was like, now this is the real slap. Male rival is waaaay worse than girl rival. Because shoujo heroines are always a push-over, and usually shoujo love interests are cold people (so, you know you're safe. they're gonna ignore the girl rival) AND THEN WHEN HE INTRODUCED HIMSELF, CALLING AOI A SENPAI, I JUST KNEW I'M SAFE TOO. NAH, NOT HEADING THAT WAY. It's like a typical shoujo rule book, and that kid is gonna get hurt following like a dog over nothing.
By the way, I'm gonna go and label kouhai as a red flag as well. Come on. Pushing senpai, trying to force yourself on her? No, boy. AND EWW, DID HE JUST, LIKE, SUCK AOI'S FINGER WHEN SHE WAS BITTEN BY A DOG? I LITERALLY CRINGED. THAT'S SO YUCKY. WHAT IF THAT DOG HAS RABIES. BOY, YOU'RE TOO WILD AND NASTY. VIRTUAL VOMIT. AND WHEN SHUSEI'S APARTMENT WAS FINALLY FINISHED IN RENOVATION, THIS BOY BROUGHT A BAG OF HIS BELONGINGS AND JUST "UNANNOUNCED" WENT TO AOI'S HOME WANTING TO LIVE THERE FOR A WHILE. WHAT THE HELL?
And the most irritating part is that Aoi didn't even give him a punch or something! She just ran around like a girl afraid or something. What the hell? Here I was admiring her boyishness but no I guess she's no Misaki after all.
AND BEFORE I FORGOT, SHUNPEI MARKING HIS TERRITORY? LOL NO. SHE'S NOT YOUR GIRLFRIEND. YOU DON'T OWN HER, OKAY? OH SHIT DID I SAY SHUNPEI? WHAT WAS HIS NAME AGAIN 😭 I mean I love him, he's so handsome and all and their chemistry is really something, but he's red flag really!
The wall's outcome in the end was sort of funny though. I was actually thinking, so what's going to happen now? And then boom boom pow... Ah, I see.
.....2 stars because major fails in the second half.
Shameless. I don't even. Like why?
See, I really enjoyed the first one! And the first half of this volume was just as fun and then we get introduced to the obligatory secondary love interest, Shouta Komine. Komine is Aoi's kouhai (younger than her) and creepily has been watching her apparently.
He proceeds to profess his feelings for her and from then on, he serves only as a plot device to force Aoi and Kugayama to once again live in her apartment.
Could there not have been any other way for these two to shack up together again? It was lazy and Komine himself was nothing but a plot device. I really didn't like how he was all possessive of Aoi and touched her when she didn't want it (even though Kugayama does this also, he at least apologizes and stops).
His appearance was nothing but a waste of time and frankly, I disliked this bland walking piece of cliche. At least Strobe Edge got the second love interest right! Andou had a background, he developed, he was interesting, and I even rooted for him once!!!!
Komine was just a waste of space and unless he actually becomes significant in the story, I don't care at all about him. At least try and make him a little appealing! All he did was pose with puppies, get super protective, touch Aoi, and creepily proclaim her greatness!!
I don't know guys. How did this take such a drastic turn? We have gone back to the pits of shojo cliches that don't work. Some series can use these tropes right, and clearly some can't.
I might pick up the next to see how this plays out because I actually enjoyed the live action movie and am super confused as to where some of that movie was pulled from. Did that even come from the manga or was the director pulling stuff out of his ass to make the film infinitely more enjoyable?
I really enjoyed this one. I did think a few parts were a bit, well, weird? Trying? The fact that Shusei's sister was forcing them to do certain things to prove they were a couple was a bit weird, and the secondary love interest being VERY aggressive about a relationship (and being a dog???)
But...but...I loved so many scenes in this one!
The little things like teaching an appropriate stance in basketball by Shusei to Aoi...The pulling up a shirt when they need to switch shirts for the competition. The protective stance of Shusei when they are hiding and shirtless...loved, loved, loved!
Definitely continuing this series.
Steam: plenty of tension building scenes but no kisses
I liked this one more, there were some cute moments between our (soon to be?) couple, though the introduction of the new love interest for our gal was...well, he was a bit too much...rather annoying to me, but the last few pages of this volume have got my giddy for things to come between them.
This was cute but definitely not my favourite so far of this manga series. I loved the little bit of angst that we get at the beginning but it's definitely a cliche in Shojo of a man hugging a women, said love interest walks in and see's it, gets the wrong idea, only to find out it's an aunt/sister/cousin. I have found this in a lot of Shojo and even Yaoi. I mean, I guess it could happen in real life but still unnecessary.
Also the relationship build between Shu and Aoi is definitely rocky in some places. I really don't appreciate how Shu treat's Aoi and her appearance, especially her physical weight. I don't understand why he is so weight focused or why he continuously finds ways to make comments about it. It's not throughout the volume of course but the few times it happens, it just irks me. And then of course other girls make fun of her for having small globes and that no man would want her because of that! When did this manga become so physical appearance focused...or was it always that way and I am just getting it now.
And then of course there was Shouto....who I wanted to punch into the next century. Not only did this love sick puppy follow Aoi home, but he forced himself into her home to live with her! And then he would constantly touch her and say she was his! Ummm this is stalkery level shit and no one is worried about this! Like what the heck! Some people called Shouto cute because he literally acts like a puppy. WTF he is literally serial killer material.
Anyways, the ending was super cute. I am liking the idea of where this manga series is going. I am just not a fan of what happened in this volume. There were way to many triggering things and situations that should never be deemed as OK.
Also Shu better step up his game because as of the moment he does not deserve Aoi!
1,5/5 I might reread this because I’m sleep deprived and I read this way too fast and I think I didn’t absorbed anything from it? Aoi is going to take part on this ball game tournament and the guys tend to give their t shirts to the girls so everyone wants sunsei’s. In the end he gives it to her and his sister is now living with them until they prove they are a “real couple”. Sunsei confesses the truth after a while and she tells Aoi that she needs to be 100% committed to be in a relationship with him because he suffered from a really painful love. That makes Aoi wonder if she truly knows him and if she is really that close to him but later on she meets this other guy who is a literal STALKER. This volume made me feel so uncomfortable because this guy (who is younger than her) calls her the master and offers to be her pet and gets inside her house to live with her and to make her forget about Sunsei. He met him during junior high when they played basketball together and knows about sunsei’s ex, who is now married to his oldest brother. This guy made my skin crawled because he is so cringey and his obsession with Aoi is so problematic and disgusting… Anyways later on she is so worried about sunsei not being in class and she hears a sound and breaks the wall to find him there. He doesn’t live with her anymore since his house was repaired but now they are back to be flatmates and the tensión is still there. Aoi realizes that she has feelings for him and she wants to spend more time with him but she is not sure he is going to return those feelings which makes me sad. Anyways I’m intrigued so I’ll read the next one
NAUUU not another sibling complex 😭✋ well,,my enjoyment tanked so fast after finishing this volume. i jinxed myself earlier,, 💀💀 i take it back, enough drama for me 🙅♀️🚫what the hell happened here 😭 also the kid who liked her yrs before is crazy af man like 😭😭 calling her master?!? 😟 licking her fingers ?? 😨 back 🤺 back i say. also still not at all a fan of the ML bc boundaries!! sir have u heard of them !! for some reason i thought it would get better in this volume but nah, (too much for me personally) i think it’ll be a constant throughout the series so bleh.
Roommates and their slow burn relationship dang I swear sometimes you wanna smack Shusei with his hot cold emotions.. poor Aoi is so confused I feel for her. And now she has a puppy (another guy) wanting her affection. And we get bits and pieces of other characters and past relationships that might come like Komine... that kid is...creepy doggie lol
Uh oh is this a love triangle that's gonna happen??? Fluffy romance and light funny read. The guy teases her a lot and she's slowly falling fir him. Ahhhhh so cute
I NEVER HATED AND KINDA LOVED A CHARACTER LIKE THAT BEFORE- No nvm the guy still pisses me off :/ BUT this volume was better than the first one. I don't know if i want to buy the other volume but i really wanna know what's going to happen with them....
It‘s not as fun of the first vol as it loses some of its shock factor. Instead the male love interest running hot and cold constantly becomes confusingly irritating and the introduction of a second male love interest brings with it an annoying territorial fight between the two. And there’s nothing more off-putting in a shoujo manga than two boys trying to alpha male each other with their possessiveness over the female protagonist.
Not to mention, every scene with the second male love interest displays flagrant abuse and manipulation. At least with the main male love interest it felt cheeky and tongue-in-cheek; here it’s like the protagonist is being perverted and no one is enjoying it.
This volume was a little weird and I found the other “love interest” really creepy...and just weird. I’m still going to continue with the series and I hope it gets better, as I loved the first volume a lot! This volume just seemed a little all over the place and just.....weird.
Après le premier tome, j'ai enchaîné sans attendre avec le second qui a été tout aussi addictif! J'adore les personnages de ce petit shōjo. C'est une lecture détente que je recommande vivement
