ETA: tried again, but couldn't do it. I'm not into the story, the characters or the writing.

Although I decided that this author's not for me - this blurb was just too interesting :)

It was quite the engaging read for the first 30% or so, but soon it became totally unbelievable and over the top. Add to that the harebrained dialogue and I wasn’t able to finish this concoction.
And this will teach me, hopefully, to stick to my decisions!

This is a very sweet, low to no angst short story about an insecure artist (trust funder) who falls for a blue collar plumber and in return finds himself in the process.

Paul is 100% sweet and perfect and really brings out the best in Rupert “Roo”. There is a little drama with some bigots and a small bit of family drama, a fair amount of steamy sex and lots of feels.

For a quick, hot, and sweet read – I highly recommend this short story.

2.5 Heart Review by Amber

I think this had potential to be really good but it fell short for me. I think my biggest issue was how corny these two characters were. Paul calling Rupert “honey” within the first hour of them meeting kind of set the cornfest off and running. Another thing I didn’t get was the whole “emo” obsession?? Why was that such a big focus? It made no significant difference in the story so why was there so much talk about it?? I don’t know, just overall this was a miss for me mainly due to the corniness and also because the love aspect just really wasn’t believable.

Rupert Pemberton is a wealthy, young artist living off his parent’s wealth. After some ribbing from his older brother about not being manly enough to fix a plumbing issue Rupert tries and makes the situation worse. So he calls a plumber to help him out.

Paul is immediately attracted to Rupert and notices early on that Rupert feels the same way. After Paul fixes the emergency leak he sets off on wooing Rupert into the sack and it works.

I did think that the chemistry between these two worked out but other than that it just wasn’t believable for me and the things I mentioned before just didn’t make much sense.

The writing wasn’t horrible by any means but this story just wasn’t for me I’m sorry to say.

Rupert, aka Roo, has always lived in his older brother’s shadow. When his toilet needs to be fixed, he insists that he can take care of it himself even though his brother suggests calling a plumber. Eventually, he realizes that he does need professional help with the fix and a strong, sexy, tall, man shows up and takes care of the problem. But, that isn’t all he takes care of and the two get down and dirty on the bathroom floor. Paul, the plumber, woos the Goth Roo and takes him on a few dates to court him the proper way, even though they always end the nights back in Roo’s bed.

I really struggled with this short story. It started out strong, but fizzled very quickly. So much so, that I had to put the book down and either do something else or read something else because it could not hold my attention. The dialogue was too detailed and cheesy in a lot of parts. Paul seemed to talk down to Roo a lot, which is not something I would want in a partner. In another instance, Paul asks Roo about his Gothic lifestyle and instead of a conversation, the dialogue turned into what felt like a lecture about Goths and the history of them. Interesting? Yes. Did it work in the context of the story? No, it was one of the places where I had to put the story down.

While I could not connect with either of the characters, I found them to be well developed and the backstory for each was well detailed. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to keep me engaged and I just did not care for this book. Maybe it is me? Maybe not. But, either way I would not recommended it.

An erotica-heavy novella about two men who find love in the least likely of places. Unfortunately, this one just doesn’t do it for me, but I can see how other people might really enjoy it.

From the start, I felt like this read as a bad porno. A guy calls for a plumber, the plumber is shockingly sexy, they end up having sex on the floor of the bathroom. Plot-wise, there’s nothing wrong with that… it’s a bit unoriginal, but erotica is generally more about the sex and the connection than the backstory, in my opinion.

But three things made this a novella that just wasn’t for me:

1. The over-the-top effemiphobia on Rupert’s part. It was constant and self-deprecating; he’s a “prissy little prince” for not having a toolbox. But he puts himself in the stereotypical female role, and Paul is stereotypically “male”, and it grated on my (very feminist) nerves.

2. Missing the obvious: Rupert is a sculptor. He works with stone. But he doesn’t have any tools? He doesn’t know how to use a hammer? Um…

3. They have absolutely nothing in common. Rich spoiled kid, blue collar worker, and they fall in lust after five minutes? I don’t buy “love at first sight” at the best of times, but maybe I just have a stone-cold heart.

Okay, I have to be honest, I actually didn’t read the blurb with this one. Susan Laine is an auto for me. So I laughed out loud when I read the toilet issue and realized the title. It just so happened I had to replace our fill valve inside our toilet tank the afternoon before I read this book. Shame I didn’t need to call a plumber.

These two were interesting together. One born with a silver spoon but wants to be independent, make a name for himself. While the other has been working hand to mouth for years and finally has his own. But is it enough to impress?

So many things I enjoyed about these two, the way they discover each other, the way they help each other grow not just in the relationship but as people and in there confidences with there families, work and such. I could have done with out the play by play on the plumbing details.

Even though this story is only about 70 pages on my ereader, we get the whole gambit, from just meeting to a nice HEA at the end.

Flushed by Susan Laine is a nice quick fast paced read that is steamy hot. I stories like this great ones to just sit back and get lost in after a long day.
In this story we have Rupert the youngest, wants to prove he is more than his big brother thinks he is. He wants to prove himself. He is an artist but feels that means he is not really arrived yet. When he has some toilet troubles he is lost how to fix it….but lucky for him he has great tastes in plumbers. He is an unsure, gay man with an over flowing toilet problem.
Paul is the plumber he ends up calling. He is sexy, sweet, and blue collared all the way. He is a bit on the sassy side. He likes Rupert and how he does not put on airs and is himself. Paul owns his business has been working since he was 16.
These two coming together you would never have seen it coming. But this story proves that sometimes opposites do attract. I found this story to be super sweet and a whole lot spicy! Loved it and want more! I will be looking for more from this author in the future.

This was hard to read. While the two MCs were cute - absolutely loved Rupert (Roo) and Paul was ok, it was just almost silly. The plumber terms and the action that took place on the bathroom floor after the flood was just - ugh. I like short stories that are able to give me a complete story with background about my MCs and some action then an HEA. I got that but it was difficult to finish because it was just so incongruous. Loved the cover and the blurb which is what attracted me. Liked the writing, too.
