Sweet Soul

Rate this book
From the USA Today bestselling Sweet Home Series, comes Sweet Soul, a heart-wrenching story of love in its purest form.

One shy lost soul.
One silent lonely heart.
One love to save them both.

Life has never been easy for twenty-year-old Levi Carillo. The youngest of the Carillo boys, Levi is nothing like his older brothers. He isn’t dark in looks or intimidating to everyone he meets. In fact, he’s quite the opposite. Haunted by a crippling shyness and the tragic events of his past, Levi spends his days with his head buried in his books, or training hard for his college football team. Too timid to talk to girls, Levi stays as far away as possible and completely on his own… until he saves the life of a troubled pretty blonde, a troubled pretty blonde that might just be the exception to his rule.

Elsie Hall is homeless. Or at least that’s all anyone ever sees. Every day is a fight for survival on the cold streets of Seattle, everyday a struggle to find food and keep warm. Alone in life—a life that’s dangerous and cruel—her will to keep going is an ever-losing battle. In her world of silence, Elsie has given up hope that her life will contain anything but constant heartache and pain… until the beautiful boy she has severely wronged comes to her rescue at precisely the right time.

New Adult novel—contains sexual situations and mature topics. Suited for ages 18 and up.

Amazon & USA Today Best Selling Author, Tillie Cole, is a Northern girl through and through. She originates from a place called Teesside on that little but awesomely sunny (okay I exaggerate) Isle called Great Britain. She was brought up surrounded by her English rose mother -- a farmer's daughter, her crazy Scottish father, a savagely sarcastic sister and a multitude of rescue animals and horses.
Being a scary blend of Scottish and English, Tillie embraces both cultures; her English heritage through her love of HP sauce and freshly made Yorkshire Puddings, and her Scottish which is mostly demonstrated by her frighteningly foul-mouthed episodes of pure rage and her much loved dirty jokes.

Having been born and raised as a Teesside Smoggie, Tillie, at age nineteen, moved forty miles north to the 'Toon', Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, where she attended Newcastle University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts honours degree in Religious Studies. She returned two years later to complete a Post-Graduate Certificate in Teaching High School Social Studies. Tillie, regards Newcastle to be a home from home and enjoyed the Newcastle Geordie way of life for seven 'proper mint' and 'lush' years.

One summers day, after finishing reading her thousandth book on her much loved and treasured Kindle, Tillie turned to her husband and declared, "D'you know, I have a great idea for a story. I could write a book." Several months later, after repeating the same tired line at the close of another completed story, she was scolded by her husband to shut up talking about writing a novel and "just bloody do it!" For the first time in eleven years, Tillie actually took his advice (he is still trying to get over the shock) and immediately set off on a crazy journey, delving deep into her fertile imagination.

Tillie, ever since, has written from the heart. She combines her passion for anything camp and glittery with her love of humour and dark brooding men (most often muscled and tattooed – they’re her weakness!). She also has a serious side (believe it or not!) and loves to immerse herself in the complex study of World Religions, History and Cultural Studies and creates fantasy stories that enable her to thread serious issues and topics into her writing -- yep, there's more to this girl than profanity and sparkles!

After six years of teaching high school Social Studies and following her Professional Rugby Player husband around Europe, they have finally given up their nomadic way of life and settled in Calgary, Alberta where Tillie spends most of her days (and many a late night) lost in a writing euphoria or pursuing a dazzling career as a barrel-racing, tasselled-chap wearing, Stetson-sporting cowgirl... Ye-haw!

Eeeeekkkkkk!!!! I am TOO excited to bring you Levi Carillo! He is one of the sweetest, kindest and most adorable characters I've written to date.

As this book has ended up being longer than I expected, I have delayed the release by 5 days to ensure that I give this beautiful story the attention it deserves. It's only 5 days later than originally scheduled, so not too bad, and this extra time will make the novel that much better. I hope you all understand.

Please know that the new date of release will be TUESDAY DECEMBER 15TH 2015.

Thank you, guys! Love you all to bits!!!

Tillie Cole is one of my favorite authors, and her Carillo brother’s stories are my absolute favorite things she’s written. When I heard the youngest Carillo brother, Levi, was getting his own book, I was ecstatic! Levi is nothing like his two older brothers, we’ve known that from the start. He’s the sweet one of the bunch.
“You are not your brothers, Levi. You are kind and shy, not hard and boisterous, ready to fight the world. You are my quiet baby boy. My sweet, sweet soul.”

Levi’s childhood wasn’t easy. His life growing up was hard. Now, he’s living with Austin and Lexie and playing college ball. Things are better for him, but the’s still not your normal college student. He doesn’t party, doesn’t date, and is very innocent when it comes to all that. He’s not been very interested in anyone… until he meets her.

 photo 9F2909AE-0853-44A4-88C0-06EA9FE7DBFD_zpsw22bl7pd.jpg

Elsie has had an even worse childhood than Levi. And she’s still living through hell. Things have been hard for her most of her life, but now she’s on the street and alone things are even worse. Then she meets him. Levi Carrilo. The boy with the heart of gold. She has been conditioned to not trust people, to not let anyone get close or let anyone in, but that’s before Levi comes and melts all her defenses.
Beautiful and kind- my mom had always told me there was no such thing. After my life on the streets, after being in that home, I was inclined to agree… until I met this boy. Levi Carillo- the boy with a pure heart.

Levi and Elsie’s relationship was beautiful. Neither one had been in a real relationship before, so we got to experience all the newness with them. I loved that Levi made it clear from the start that he always wanted Elsie safe. He cared for her. Their story is deep. It isn’t a superficial sexy romance, it’s so much more than that.
“I want it to be good. I don’t want to mess it up.”

“You couldn’t.”

“Why?”

“Because it’s you. And it’s me. Nothing means more to me in the world but this. But us.”

 photo EA3CEFB2-4C13-4639-BB76-C824DC10A151_zpsfffnwyie.jpg

Both Levi and Elsie are characters you will love. Levi especially. I know, I know the title says it all. He really is the sweetest, kindest and most gentlest of souls. He’s one of those boys any mother would be proud of and any girl would be lucky to have. When he loves he loves with his entire heart. He’s protective and compassionate. Elsie’s story broke my heart. I was in tears so many times when hearing stories of her past and seeing what she dealt with even now. It takes so much strength to be abel to trust anyone after all she had went through and I’m so happy she put her trust in the right person.

Sweet Soul is not an easy read. There are a lot of heavy moments and I found myself in tears more than once. I am so sad to see this series is over. Words can’t express how much I love these books. Austin, Axel, and Levi Carillo are all such special characters. I love the relationship these three brothers have, and the relationship they have with their women. For those of you who haven’t read this series, I can’t recommend it enough! If you’re looking for a beautiful, heartbreaking, moving and heartwarming romance- pick this one up!!!
He’s brought me the moon. And I’d brought him the shine.

2-2.5 Please Don't Stab Me Stars

Okay, so I KNOW everyone loved this book, and I can totally see why.

Levi is really sweet and the whole premise is also that: sweet.

Super, super, super fucking sweet.

Here are some other things I know:

I KNOW I don't like poetry - and this book has a lot of it. Long ones. That Elsie had miraculously memorized and would regurgitate in every one of the very sad, very depressing, "let's purge some feelings" scenes. Constantly.

I KNOW that this book is mostly comprised of conversations between Levi and Elsie. And for two people who are super shy and don't talk that much - imagine how boring THAT was.

I KNOW that makes me callous.

I KNOW how both Levi and Elsie feel. My mother died when I was a young teenager too. And I was bullied like Elsie. And yet I found myself getting irritated with what felt like their constant wallowing.

I KNOW that makes me heartless.

I KNOW that I was supposed to really love this book...

...Love watching two broken people find happiness and healing in each other.

...Love seeing two 19/20-something virgins who had never even kissed anyone else "magically" come together.

...Love seeing these two people overcome obstacles and find their happiness.

But I KNOW I just didn't.

And yes.

I KNOW that this makes me a total asshole.

"I want the world for you, mia luna. And I pray that the girl who claims your tender heart is just as sweet as you. Someone to care for your fragile soul. Someone to cherish the gentle gift that you are, when I am no longer here to do so..."

Tillie Cole is truly one of the most talented writers out there today. She is one of the reasons why I started blogging. Every time a book of hers is due out, I find myself waiting on pins & needles. What I knew before going into this book was that it was going to mess with my emotions, and oh boy did it ever. I certainly shed a few tears reading about the Sweet Shy boy who finds his way out of the darkness with the help of a Beautiful Silent girl.

Levi Carillo is the youngest of the Carillo brothers and the one with the biggest heart. It would seem that he's got everything going for him. He's on the starting offensive line for his college football team, and usually voted MVP. He's gorgeous, smart, and has a loving family, but the pain and guilt he feels over his mother's death, has haunted him for the past six years. Levi is painfully shy and avoids social situations at all costs. He has felt like a lost soul, unable to move on with his life since the death of his mother. His brothers and family constantly worry about him, because he keeps himself so closed off from friends and normal college shenanigans.

Elsie Hall is a young woman who has not had it easy for most of her eighteen years of life. Her mother was disabled and also addicted to drugs. More often than not, her mother failed to provide the basics needed to keep them both safe, warm, and well nourished. They lived most of their years together being homeless and hungry. Through it all, Elsie never blamed her mother, and only held so much love in her heart for her instead. But circumstances cause Elsie to be separated from her mom and soon after being placed in a facility she learns of her mother's untimely death. Not only does she find herself utterly alone but she crosses paths with a ruthless bully who causes her to live her life in silence and eventually she finds herself back out on the streets.

Elsie's life will begin to change on the fateful night she is caught trying to steal Levi's wallet from his locker. She ends up taking something that means the world to him and at first Levi is devastated but then he recalls the haunted look of the frail girl with the huge expressive eyes and he can't help but feel true compassion for her. She manages to get away from him at first but eventually when she runs into him again she's lucky to have Levi and his brothers come to her rescue.

While being nursed back to health at Austin & Lexi's home, Levi and Elsie start to form a deep connection. Levi has never felt anything for a girl until Elsie. He has this strong need to protect and stand up for her. The once shy young man now has to find his voice to speak up for the girl who seems to be even more shy than he is. But there is a reason why she refuses to talk and when you get the whole story, it will be hard not to shed a tear for her. I also have to say that some of the poignant moments between Levi and Axel were so heartbreaking.

 photo a78d07b2d75856f549d65e0b67f04ffe_zpsikt4aqcy.jpg

There is a bit of steam but it was so beautifully written. Every moment was filled with so much tenderness, I felt like my heart was about to burst. And I love how Levi handled Elsie with so much care, and was always encouraging her to embrace what makes her different and to follow her dreams.

I have a serious hatred for bullying and that is one of the major themes of this story and what is truly sad is that it doesn't just happen in grade school or high school. It can happen to anyone, during any stage of life.

There is definitely something to be said for a sweet, kind, gentle hero. The youngest Carillo is simply the sweetest of souls. I can’t stress how much I have enjoyed this series. It’s by far my favorite collection of football player stories. Some books are heavier than others, while each wonderful on their own merit. Also, it doesn’t hurt that I’m a huge Tide fan.

In what appears to be the final installment ( sob ) of the series we get the youngest Carillo bother’s book. Levi Carillo is shy, sweet and basically a young man any mother would be proud to call her own. Sadly, the events that happened in his childhood: losing his mother, Axel’s jail time, and the horrors he saw while in a local gang, have left this Carillo sibling shy and closed off. He’s reflexive over his past, has never had a girl friend or even a kiss. His late mother’s words play on repeat of what his life will be…

”Whoever you end up with, my son, whoever claims your heart, will be a very special girl indeed.” He fingers stroked my cheek. “So much love, mia luna. You will love with your whole being, and it will be forever. You could not love any other way.”

Attending the University of Washington, Levi refuses to live at the frat house or attend any college parties. Instead, his studies and his football team are all that occupies his time. That is until a homeless girl steals his wallet holding his mother’s rosary beads and soon after she steals this last Bama boy’s heart.

”She reminded me so much of Mamma that I couldn’t leave. Helpless, you know? So I had to help her. I needed to, something within me compelled me to.”

description

Levi talks Lexi and Austin into letting the very ill Elsie stay with them. They quickly find out that she is deaf in her left ear and has been functioning with a broken hearing aid in the other. Levi learns that Elsie can speak, however with slightly different inflection. She trusts him enough to let him hear her voice. They share the pain of losing their mothers, and show themselves to one another, while falling in love.

”She was becoming my girl.”

description

Lexi plays a wonderful role in this story as does Axel. There isn’t a character I liked more than another in this series. In this book Axel’s plea brought tears to my eyes.

”Please don’t break his fucking heart. Seeing that kid so closed in, pained me every damn day. I won’t see him destroyed by the first person he’s ever let in.”

Tillie Cole addresses so many heavy issues in this story including bullying and the lingering effects. Suicide is another topic that is faced and I feel she handled all with finesse and compassion. She also intertwines her poetic attributes through Elsie which was an added bonus.

”Words are the worst kind of ammunition, Levi. Physical pain fades in time, but bullets of cruelty forever penetrate the soul.”

Please note that the abundance of things like moon, stars, lighting bug jars, rosary beads, and to be honest, at times the hero and heroine’s conversations about their feelings felt like the author was over doing it and/or trying too hard. Still, on the drama end I felt things weren’t over the top at all and was just the right amount of drama to propel the story forward.

description

This story is an emotional read with a hero and heroine who just maybe two of the sweetest of souls in this series. I’m sad to say goodbye to all my Sweet Home friends. Its bitter sweet knowing that they are all happy but that this maybe the last I read of them. Perhaps a holiday novella from time to time will hit the spot? In the meantime, ROLLLL TIDE!!!

“Sweet Soul” is the final installment in Tillie Cole’s series entitled “Sweet Home” and like the other books in the series it was equally a heartwarming and heartbreaking read. Intense, though-provoking and emotional, this novel tells the story of Levi, the youngest Carillo brother, the sweetest of them all.

“You are the timid one, the gentle brother—inside and out. You are the one to carry his heart on his sleeve. You are the one who watches silently from afar and loves with all his soul.”

If you already read the other installment in the series, you know Levi’s life until a couple years ago was very hard. He lost everything and he lost himself when he lost his momma and since then he’s been trying to find a guiding light, something or someone to save him for the darkness. Now, Levi has a better life. He’s a college student, he plays ball, football being his entire life. It’s what he does best. He’s not your usual college student. He doesn’t party and he also doesn’t date. He’s shy and he prefers to keep to himself. Until he meets Elsie.

description

Elsie is a homeless girl who’s life was even harder than Levi’s. She is deaf in her left ear and has been functioning for years with a broken aid in the other. Her mother was completely deaf and also a drug addict. After her death, Elsie was placed into foster care where her life got worse. She was bullied and she almost lost herself, eventually running away wandering the streets hungry, homeless and terrified.

“It was funny how being a nothing person on the street, someone people ignored like you were not even there, takes away your conviction that you really are someone. That you matter too.
That you’re human.”

When Levi and Elsie meet their life starts to change for the better in every single way.

description

This was such a sweet, emotional read! And if you’re wondering if Levi was a sweet soul, the answer is yes. He was the sweetest of souls. I really fell in love with these two characters. My heart broke for both of them, for different reasons and I wanted so badly for them to find love and peace.

“Beautiful and kind- my mom had always told me there was no such thing. After my life on the streets, after being in that home, I was inclined to agree… until I met this boy. Levi Carillo- the boy with a pure heart.”

Levi was such a wonderful character. He was perfection! I loved him to pieces. He was so sweet, kind, thoughtful and gentle…God, he warmed my heart. With his protectiveness and his tenderness he was the perfect boy for Elsie. The way he cared for her and the way he loved her were so touching at times.

description

Elsie’s story moved me so much. Reading about her past brought tears to my eyes a couple of times. She was a little damaged, but she wasn’t broken and eventually she found the strength to move on, to get stronger, to trust Levy and I was really happy for her. She deserved all the happiness! I was so proud of her for letting Levi seeing her true self, for letting him hear her voice.

“I was pretty sure that my home was solely with this sweet soul—wherever that may be.” – Elsie

Levi and Elsie’s relationship was beautiful. I loved their connection and the way they healed each other. I also loved how they opened up about their lives and their fears and how honest they were with each other at times.

“Sweet Soul” was not an easy read. Before reading keep in mind that it deals with serious issues like suicide, bullying and homelessness.

I’m really sad to reach the ending and say goodbye to these wonderful characters. If you haven’t read this series, I highly recommend it!

Overall, a wonderful read!

Title: Sweet Soul #4
Series: Can be read as a standalone
Author: Tillie Cole
Release Date: December 15, 2015
Rating: 4 stars
Cliffhanger:. No
HEA:

Sweet Soul is another very emotional and intense story by Tillie Cole. She has yet another time captured on the paper all of those… feels; the good, the bad, the ugly… It was, at times heart wrenching to read about yet.. I was so invested into the characters’ lives stories, in their pain and hopes and dreams that I just couldn’t stop myself from reading even though it hurt me in many ways.

Levi Carillo is different than Austin and Axel, his tough as nails big brothers. Levi’s gentle, loving… shy. He has a good, golden heart and is just not interested in things most twenty year olds are. He doesn’t party, he has never kissed a girl… He’s just a little bit lonely and broken. Missing his mother. Trying to find happiness. When he meets homeless, sick girl a little bit younger than him, his instincts and empathy kick in and he persuades Austin and Lexi to help her.

Elsie and Levi were both very complex and complicated characters.I will admit that this novel, although exceptionally sweet in some moments, left me quite open and venerable. Some subjects had hit me more than others.

"Telling stories of love, he brought to her life
A moment by his side: no pain, no strife"

This book is full of heavy issues – bullying, homelessness, suicide attempts, loneliness. Beautiful and harsh, bittersweet. Yet I loved it.

I was sad to reach the ending and say goodbye to the characters. Sweet Home series gave me many hours of blissful reading. I am not sure if I am ready to let it go.

All in all, Tillie Cole is superb writer! In my opinion every single story she’s written down is exceptional and unique in its own way. Sweet Soul is no different. I highly recommend picking it up if you are looking for a romantic story that will get you thinking about life in general, cruelty and why people hurt others. This was very rough, raw and honest love story.

”Words are the worst kind of ammunition, Levi. Physical pain fades in time, but bullets of cruelty forever penetrate the soul.”

I have no idea how Tillie seems to break and heal my heart with each book she realizes, but she does. This women is so insanely talented and her stories always deliver the feels!

Sweet Soul is one of her heaviest books and truly broke my heart over and over again. We all know know the youngest Carillo, Levi, but this book had me falling in love with the sweet, shy young man. Levi is in college now and playing for the Washington Huskies. He is talented and his family is well off thanks to Austin’s success, but he hasn’t forgotten where he came from. It was so refreshing to read about a college football player who was shy and had a heart of gold.

I wasn’t good with words. I wasn’t good with any of the dating crap. I played ball, I studied, and I kept to myself.

Elsie and Levi meet or cross paths when she is caught stealing from him. Despite Elsie’s questionable actions Levi immediately can tell she is homeless, starved and dirty. So when he sees her days later he chooses to help her instead of turn her over the police. By this point Elsie is seriously ill and has no place to go. With Lexi’s help they take Elsie in and nurse her back to health.

I swear this story, it’s so emotional and had me balling off and on throughout the story. I loved these characters and absolutely loved them together. Elsie is a compassionate and caring, but completely broken. She has had years of verbal abuse and her self-esteem has suffered. She didn’t have a real childhood or knew love, so it’s hard for to accept and trust Levi.

I have absolutely no complaints here, I loved the tenderness and warmth in these characters. I absolutely freaking loved the epilogue and I love that these two damaged souls could help heal each other. I also loved catching up with the other characters. It was so nice to see how these broken, damaged people are giving back and doing more to help others. I know I sound crazy, but these characters feel completely real to me now. This series started out with a hot football player and they shy studious girl, but has turned into a series with so much depth and heart. I highly recommend Sweet Soul and this whole series if you haven’t started it yet.

Elsie had a rough life, and living in the streets for a while, she doesn’t believe anything good can come in her way. Until one day Levi enters her life.
Both lonely, both broken in their own way, they will understand that sometimes the best way to heal, is helping someone they care about heal as well.

description

I confess I was one of the readers who almost begged for “little Levi” story. And as much as it saddens me to see one of my favorites series end, I’m glad we had the change to have this novel as closure. I loved Levi (as I knew I would love) and despite the cheesiness, this was a sugar sweet and great story. The amount of poetry bothered me a bit because I (really) strongly dislike poetry, but other than that, a book not to miss especially if you’re a fan of the series.

I Loveeeee Tillie Cole, I started the year reading this series and at that time Tillie was a new author to me. Now she will always be a go to author, this one was just the perfect ending to the series and year for me really especially when I started out with this series.

So what's it about
This is about a boy who has been brought up in a gang and lost his mum to a disease, which he feels like he's lost his soul and himself because he wasn't there for her when he thinks he should of been. He's lonely and although his life is sooo much better, with living with his brother Austin and family. He is hard working, loves studying and ADORES his team. He's still very much on his own and doesn't really let many people in. He doesn't party and mix with his team mates and keeps to himself.

Then he meets Elsie.
Elsie is deaf in one ear and that has meant she hasn't been given the best start in life, she lost her mum to drugs and is living in a world without hope or safety. Yet Levi was there at the right time and helped her. This is a story ultimately about two quiet creatures in many ways that need some hope. That need someone to understand who the other side to themselves are, and just to find someone who really knows what the other is going through. They have both been through the mill. Yet together they were able to repair the other.

What I loved.
I adored the sentiments, the fact that these two people deserved a chance. I love how Tillie gives us characters that pull at my heart and also delivers a plot that is believable and very REAL. Real circumstances and real situations that you may not necessarily see to you and me, but are most definitely there if you look deeper. I love how Elsie changed and grew into a strong woman and wrote poetry which spoke to my heart in many ways.

 photo 704E7A27-4BEA-47E0-B2B9-2F5EF9219A39_zpsmzao7uzk.gif

I loved how Levi became a protector and learnt how to LIVE for himself. And I loved how this was a story about family and unity, which are all things I love to read about.

Why not 5?
I love this series you get the gist, and don't get me confused 4 is still a Great read. But this is a very sweet beautiful read, and slightly cheesy in parts. It is a beautiful book but don't expect characters like Austin and Axel as Levi is not like them, so it was just a slightly different read for me. Saying that I think this is perfect ending to the series and for me a great book to enjoy. I am sooo happy I took the chance with this series because I have sure enjoy taking the time to be wrapped up in these characters through the year really.

Sweet small kind of perfect! Tillie Cole writes an amazing books. But the Carillo brothers overpower each other and everything else. The most beautiful story, that you never want to end.

We perfectly know Levi Carillo from previous parts. I'm sure that even then he stole many hearts, but now in his 20 year old, he is no longer a helpless child, but shy teenager with a good heart. After all what he survived as the youngest of the brothers, not quite able to get on with his new life. He sticks to himself, studying and plays amazing football. He is not very interested in girls. Still struggling with the past.

"I was drowning in life. Drowning in my own shyness. Being kept down by my past."

Levi meets Elsie in very unusual circumstances. She is homeless, sick and living on the street. Levi with his incredible heart, can not be indifferent to this. He wants to help the girl. But she hides many secrets and problems, which overwhelm the strongest.

"The darkness it smiles, the weak they can’t cope, Then it moves to the next, to victor cruelty, not hope."

This is one of the most beautiful and best series I've ever read. Masterfully written, as usual with this author. This story consume you entirely. Be ready for a lot of tears. It is emotional, wonderful and touching. I did not want to end this, even though my heart aching.

"My mom brought me the stars. Levi Carillo, you bring me the moon.” I held my breath , then whispered back, “Then you bring me the shine."

The story is unusual, unbelievably beautiful, led and build from the beginning to the end. These heroes is impossible to not love. And meet again characters from previous parts is just a bonus prize. I really would love to have their story never ended. But if must be ending, this book is just perfect for that.

"Once a Carillo cracks his hard shell and lets you in, once you see them look at you like that, you’re toast, and you’re theirs. You never really had a choice.”

I would have been able to write and write about the benefits of this book, but it's just a good read yourself. If you have not met this incredible group of friends and family is the best time to make up for it. I swear, it's worth it. Probably every book of the author is worthy of attention and it never disappoints.

"You’re stealing my soul, Levi. Like a thief, you’re taking my soul and making it your own.”"

I also have to say something about the song Take Me Home, Jess Glynne, which in fact the author herself has set as a soundtrack of the book. I think that this song is perfect for the book. As if written to it. This is my kind of perfect.

Title: Sweet Soul
Series: Sweet Home,#4
Author: Tillie Cole
Release date: 15th December, 2015
Cliffhanger: No
HEA:

Tillie Cole is a go to author if you are in need of a heartfelt read. Whether it be her Sweet Home, Hades Hangmen or Scarred Souls series she guarantees to leave you with a lump in your throat and smile on your lips. Sweet Soul is no exception to that.

Bar his passion for playing football, Levi Carillo is shy and withdrawn character. The youngest brother to Austin and Axel, Levi so far has had a quiet role to play in the series. In Sweet Soul Levi not only finds his voice but his purpose.

 photo 955F4AA1-90CF-415E-9D21-049F52600391_zpson359u14.gif

My greatest triumph when reading any romance novel is the absolute belief that my MCs are made for each other. I can say without a doubt Elsie Hall was made for Levi Carillo. Like him, her childhood was fraught with hardship and insecurities. In Young adulthood the scars remain. It's only through the sweet purity of their love do they begin to heal.

 photo 0016544F-7B04-42E4-BA5C-E76BDA9FC7F0_zps5wgqs9wx.gif

As much as I enjoyed Levi and Elsie's story, it was cloaked in so much sadness that at times it was difficult for me to not feel overwhelmed by it. There were also moments when I felt the declarations were too unrealistic for that of a young couple. That said, sweet soul was a perfect title to this story as it possessed just that.

★★★ 3 Stars ★★★

Levi is the youngest of the three Carillo brothers, all three having captured my soul from the very first time I read about them back in book 2, Sweet Fall.

Following in the footsteps of his older brother Austin, he plays for college team The Washington Huskies and is loving every minute of it. Football is most definitely his passion. He is extremely grateful for the life he has been granted and thanks God every day.

He is extremely shy and introverted, having been through things as a child that no kid should ever have to see. He's not into parties, or socialising much. He plays football, studies hard and helps out his sister in law at her centre for helping people in need, and is content with doing so.

He has the most purest of hearts so when he comes across a homeless girl living on the streets, looking frail and thin, he does the only thing he can and offers to help her.

"She reminded me so much of Mamma that I couldn't leave. Helpless, you know? So I had to help her.
I needed to, something within me compelled me."

It doesn't matter that just days before she was stealing from him, because all he sees when he looks at her, is the life that he could have had, before he and his family had the opportunities that fate threw their way.

These two were so sweet together, and I love that Levi ended up with someone as quiet and kind as him. They really were a cute couple and Levi did a beautiful job of helping Elsie to heal.

"You're stealing my soul, Levi. Like a thief, you're taking my soul and making it your own."

Without a doubt, this book should have been an emotional read for me. It touches on very sensitive subjects such as homelessness, bullying and suicide.

Unfortunately, I was unable to connect with both characters on a deeper level, and I am not sure if that was because Elsie and Levi spent a lot of time either crying or trying to hold the tears back, but I didn't seem to be able to feel the emotions, as I normally do when reading a Tillie Cole book.

As much as I enjoyed Elsie's story, I wanted more from Levi. I wanted to feel his struggle and turmoil in dealing with his haunted past, and discover how it changed him as a person, but I am left feeling unsatisfied with his character development in this book . He was adorable and had the biggest heart out of all of them, but I still feel like I don't know much about him.

However I must end on a positive, this series continues to be a favourite of mine and will always hold a special place in my heart. I adore all of the characters and would recommend it to anyone who loves the new adult sports romance genre. This series really hits you in the gut with emotional and sometimes heart wrenching storylines.

Rome and the Carillo brothers are a without a doubt some of my favourite all time characters, and now that the series has come to an end they will be sorely missed.

This is the last book in the series, told in dual POV.

Levi Carillo is a 20 yr. old gorgeous, quiet guy from Alabama. He lives in Seattle, & attends The University of Washington where he plays wide receiver for the Washington Huskies. Levi & his 2 older brothers suffered a tragic childhood that still devastates & haunts his thoughts. He has lived so much for being so young, and has trouble just acting his age & being carefree. He spends most of his time either playing football or studying. He has a heavy heart & is so kind & sensitive. He loves hard & feels so much. He's the gentle brother of the three.

 photo 0133BBF8-4AE7-4B3E-B8C2-D9876254119B_zps4hmhcpm0.jpg

Levi hasn't had any experience with girls yet. He's extremely shy, and just isn't comfortable around the opposite sex, until he meets a girl named Elsie Hall. Elsie is 18, & from Portland, Oregon. Her whole life has been one obstacle after another. She is homeless, cold, hungry & alone. She has nothing & is desperately trying to hold onto a shred of hope as she's trying to survive while living on the streets.

 photo B0341FD3-FB96-43D2-B8FF-E1D572564C15_zpsduutbccg.gif

Elsie's hope comes in the form of a beautiful boy with an even more beautiful sweet soul. Levi shows her compassion & a kindness she's never experienced before. He rescues her, takes care of her, & makes her feel safe. She is able to be herself with Levi, & eventually opens up to him about her painful past. They find happiness & a peace through each other & end up saving one another through love.

I have loved this series so much, & been dying for Levi's book! I ADORE ALL the Carillo brothers! SWOON SWOON SWOON X 3!!! Thank you Tillie Cole for writing Levi's book. He is such a special, breathtakingly beautiful character. I enjoyed this book so much! It's one that touches the heart & stays with you.

4.5 BROKEN SOUL STARS

"You’ve given me words... and you gave me light in a mason jar to keep the darkness away.”

I HONESTLY COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN!
This was an amazing story of two "broken" souls finding each other throughout their pain and suffering and finding in each other their salvation and their purpose.
SO POWERFUL!
The hero Levi has had a horrible life with his mother dying and him being force to do what he must in order to survive. His older brother's misguided efforts at "helping" him, lead to a horribly scaring series of events.
His brother admits:" It was me pushing you into the gang too young, making you fucking shoot people when you were still a kid. That shit pushed you into yourself”
This with his mother death has made an already very reserved child into a withdrawn young man.

description

Until he meets someone even more withdrawn than himself, the heroine Elsie.
Elsie life is even more tragic than the hero's, with her mother being an addict and deaf. Elsie herself is partially deaf as well and has been through hell and back. She is stealing and living on the street when the hero saves her.
But they saved each other if truth be told.

description

My favorite moment was when Levi shows Elsie the sculptors of himself and his mother.
“Elsie’s hand ran over the boy’s face, tears cascading down her cheek.
Something in me cracked.
Broke.
Shattered.
Because here she was, seeing the real me. She was crying for me. She was breaking her heart for me.”

They fit each other so well and their lives, while not perfect, felt real. They have a great relationship with understanding and personal growth on both sides. It's a great coming of age story as well a story of first love.
EMOTIONAL AND ENGAGING!

description

However, I am going to be honest here and say for me personally it was way too tragic and the most of the poetry was just OTT. I was already crying my eyes out with what had happened and you had to give me an angst poem to go with it!?
REALLY, I did not need that!

Yes, some poems were hopeful but most just made me feel depressed!
I enjoy a good cry but at one point it was ridiculous. Two boxes of tissues later and then it's the end!

description

Now this story is not for everyone because it has many triggers and I must say I did not expect it all. This is very graphic and I must say very disturbing. I would strongly caution anyone who is TRIGGER sensitive to click the spoiler.

Safety: is perfect they are both virgins and no drama at all and with condoms being used every time.

I absolutely loved this book. The journey that Elsie and Levi went on was very painful, took a lot of work, but was also so sweet. Levi was a wonderful man that had a very sad and troubled childhood. He was shy, sweet, caring, smart and very loving. Elsie had an extremely rough childhood and then a hideous year being bullied in a group home. Despite those experiences she was shy, sweet, concerned about others and very brave. The two of them together was one of the sweetest romances I have read in a long time. They both felt deeply for each other and always tried to put the other first. I really loved the fact that they were each other's firsts for everything relating to the opposite sex. First date, kiss, etc. There was also a sweet glimpse into the future. I can't say enough good things about this book!

5 resounding stars!

“You’re my kind of extraordinary. Levi Carillo, you’re the sweetest of souls.”

*sniff, sniff* Just give us a minute while we wipe the away the copious amount of tears we shed whilst reading this profoundly heartfelt story. Sweet Soul didn’t just tear at our heartstrings…Elsie and Levi brought us to our knees and their story exceeded ALL our expectations.

“I want the world for you, mia luna. And I pray that the girl who claims your tender heart is just as sweet as you. Someone to care for your fragile soul. Someone to cherish the gentle gift that you are, when I am not here to do so…..”

Sweet Soul again (and again, and again) demonstrates what a standout and creative genius this author is. We firmly believe there is nothing Tillie Cole can’t write. Her talent continually amazes us. It was only last month she had us squirming uncomfortably through the gritty and raw, Reap and now she’s reduced us to sobbing wrecks whilst experiencing one of the most beautiful and soul searing love stories we’ve read this year.

“You’re stealing my soul, Levi. Like a thief, you’re taking my soul and making it your own.”
“I think you already have mine.”

There are so many reason why this book worked for us and why it affected us so deeply. The sheer magnitude of our feelings weren’t only evoked by the stunning writing, or the breathtakingly beautiful and mesmerising love story between Levi and Elsie, nor the crushing pain and overwhelming protectiveness we felt for two people who hurt, and hurt terribly , but also through the struggles of the Carillo brothers which came to a peak in Sweet Soul as we lay witness to the love and heartbreak they’ve shared or shouldered on their own, the bond between these men is soul deep and unbreakable and is what made this book particularly special.

Sweet Soul is the culmination of their journey and is the reason we implore you to read the complete Carillo Boys portion of this series (Sweet Hope and Sweet Fall) in order. There will be those who haven’t experienced their story who may pass Sweet Soul off as a standalone. We say: don’t listen because it is the relationship of the brothers that is woven throughout the three books that makes Levi’s journey such a deep seated emotional experience, heightened by following the boys through each of their books as they heal and find love to arrive at the point they have in Levi’s story.

Luckily we had plenty of tissues on hand for the moments between Levi and his brothers because they cut straight through our hearts. We can’t even begin to describe the feelings these scenes elicited from us. We sobbed and we mean….sobbed during their interactions throughout Levi and Elsie’s story.

“Please don’t break his fucking heart. Seeing that kid so closed in, pained me every damn day. I won’t see him destroyed by the first person he’s ever let in.”
“I could never hurt him, he means too much to me.”
“Good.”

Levi and Elsie. How can we possibly convey the purity of their feelings, the honesty of their words, and the innocence in their hearts? We can’t because their story needs to be felt. Their love is breathtaking, mesmerising, spectacularly heartfelt and crushingly beautiful. You’d have to have a black hole for a heart not to be affected by Elsie and Levi and their love story. Our hearts soared with them, and plummeted with them as they were forced to face the painfully sad moments from their pasts.

“You make it easy to forget all the bad.” Elsie
“You make it easy to only see the good.” Levi

Our handsome, gentle, timid, shy and beautiful Levi who bore the emotional scars left from losing his beloved Mother at only 14, such a young and impressionable age, carrying the guilt from the choices he made in his youth was one of the kindest, sweetest and most loving characters we’ve ever met. Where others see flaws, Levi sees beauty and we’re so happy he nagged Tillie to tell his story.

‘I felt like I was in heaven – high in the sky; safe, fed and warm, with the sweetest kindest boy who accepted my biggest flaw.’

The sad, lonely and brave Elsie who’s had so much heartbreak in her past. So vulnerable but so unbelievably strong, despite what she may think. This girl was so pure of heart provoking an overwhelming need in us to shield her from all the ugly and hurt in the world.

“Words are the worst kind of ammunition, Levi. Physical pain fades in time, but bullets of cruelty forever penetrate the soul.”

What we love so much about Tillie’s work is that it’s HER heart we see on those pages, free of any outside influences to mar her words. We are in complete awe the way she deals with the issue at hand and has us feeling part of something real. Her words are THAT powerful! The issue brought to life in Sweet Soul is so relevant today and one we’ve seen played out many times through Social Media, exposing the damage words can cause and it’s handled sensitively in this book. This is a story of survival, strength, hope, family ties and most of all love. It’s a story with a powerful message. Tillie Cole summons us all to be a little kinder, a little more tolerant, to comfort and support those who need a hand and to open our hearts to all the beauty in life to find our happiness and what better message could there be?

“It’s okay.” Two words, two simple everyday words rescued me from dark thoughts; spoken by the sweetest boy I’d ever met’

What can I say that hasn’t already been said in such amazing reviews? Sweet Soul is so emotionally beautiful. It is Tillie Cole’s final book in this series and it is for Levi Carillo. He is the baby…the quite brother who has seen too much and lost too young, yet through it all he is purely beautiful.

”Whoever you end up with, my son, whoever claims your heart, will be a very special girl indeed.” He fingers stroked my cheek. “So much love, mia luna. You will love with your whole being, and it will be forever. You could not love any other way.”

Unlike his brothers, Levi is quiet and reserved. He is longing for something of his own as the death of his mother has left him devastated. So prophetic are the once spoken words from his mamma as he becomes the moon for one lost star. He would rise up and guide her home to safety and to real love. Elsie Hall may have had a lifetime of hatred and silence but one night on the verge of pure hell she remembers the harsh reality of her past…

Beautiful and kind- my mom had always told me there was no such thing. After my life on the streets, after being in that home, I was inclined to agree… until I met this boy. Levi Carillo- the boy with a pure heart.

 photo PhotoGrid_1450485923910_zpsg9bci48n.jpg

This read is Tillie Cole at her finest, doing what we expect - delivering a powerful love story that not only brings on the feels but also brings light to such tragically true harsh realities of life. Unlike the prior books in the series, Sweet Soul has a youthfulness to it…a vulnerability with everything so new. First communication…first emotional connection…first touch…first true love. While the passion and the emotions were spot on, Levi and Elsie’s love grew more from adoration, respect and trust. The intimacy was found in the context of joining of two people who saw beyond all stereotypes…who found HOME in each other’s arms.

I am so happy to have had a full book for Levi Carillo. The Sweet series has always been a top series for me, a frequent re-read. Not only did I shed tears at the content and the powerful message that Tillie Cole laid down, but also at the loss of a family that I have come to adore. Thank you for the journey!!! xoxo

Sweet Soul is the fourth book in the Sweet Home Series and the third book in the Carillo Boys. If you are a fan of the Sweet Home Crew then you will be thrilled to catch up with this fantastic cast of characters. Levi is the youngest of the Carillo Brothers and he has found success on the football field and working hard in school. When one night his world collides with a homeless girl named Elsie Hall. Elsie is deaf and desperate to survive. When Levi offers her a safe place to rest, an easy friendship is formed which quickly blossoms into an unforgettable love story.

Told in dual POV, Sweet Soul is full of college drama, heartbreak, and second chances. With a swoony hero like Levi paired with a hearing impaired underdog, Tillie Cole has crafted a masterpiece full of everything we love when it comes to young love! I could not help but smile the entire time I spent in this world!
"𝒴𝑜𝓊 𝓃𝑒𝓋𝑒𝓇 𝓇𝑒𝒶𝓁𝓁𝓎 𝒽𝒶𝒹 𝒶 𝒸𝒽𝑜𝒾𝒸𝑒."
Overall, Sweet Soul will appeal to fans of young romance and second chances. Although Levi isn't quite as tortured as his two older brothers, I couldn't help but enjoy every second of his journey. It was an added bonus to be back together with the entire crew once again. Additionally, audible fans will be thrilled with the voice actors in this read. I felt they captured the essence of the characters perfectly and I enjoyed every moment! Tillie Cole is by far one of my favorite authors because she never fails to tell a story with meaning and endearing characters that will live on forever in your mind and in your heart!

I read this in one sitting. I thought both Elise and Levi were so adorable together and their story hit me with the feels. This book kinda reminds me of Lexi and Austin's book minus Lexi's annoying inner voice.

There's always a BUT just because I'm picky like that. It was soooo cheesy and sweet at times it was a bit overwhelming. Also I kinda lost count on the amount of times Elise was crying. Anyways Levi was so sweet!!! I love not reading about a manwhore. Overall I liked it more than the previous book in the series.

One word to describe the Sweet Home series: emotional. The previous books revolve around tattooed bad boys and cocky NFL-bound football players – unexpected vehicles for delivering serious, moving messages. Tillie Cole has saved the sweetest hero for last.

Levi Carillo is nothing like his brothers. He comes from the same violent upbringing as the other Carillos and carries the shame of his previous choices. Remarkably though, his soul remains kind and selfless despite his dark past. Having made a fresh start, Levi is now a star college football player destined to be drafted into the NFL. However, unlike his rather intimidating brothers who exude confidence, Levi is introverted and painfully shy to the extreme. He can barely look people in the eyes, let alone talk to them. Still, he leads a relatively happy, although lonely life. When he encounters Elsie in a dangerous situation one night, his protective impulses kick in and he attempts to rescue her. He immediately sees that she’s scared and senses a fellow timid soul. Levi’s instinct is to take care of Elsie, but how will it affect the man who’s been trapped in shyness-induced silence?

How could you not love every single thing about Levi? Alpha heroes are a dime a dozen, but for some people they are the greatest type of turn on. However, there’s something to be said for men who sacrifice their own needs—are willing to face their greatest fears—to benefit their women. They can be infinitely more appealing. Levi is just an all-around sweet man any woman would be lucky to have.

Elsie truly is a lost, tortured soul and once again Tille Cole uses her protagonist to address relevant current issues. In Sweet Soul, the subject of bullying is explored in unflinching detail that is heartbreaking at times.

I loved Levi’s patient coaxing of Elsie’s confidence, and the way in which they draw strength from each other. Theirs is a different kind of chemistry—not of the combustible nature, but just as gratifying.

I did have some small issues. The poetry that is read throughout the entire story is clearly intended to be inspirational. However, the poems just seemed corny to me. Some of the endearments shared between Levi and Elsie border on being too cliché, but the heart of the story help keeps things in check. As with the previous books, there is an abundance of tears, although thankfully to a much lesser degree. In the end, this is a wonderful finale to an enjoyable series.

I can see how the everyday reader would give this 5 stars and love it. I did love pieces of the story as well.

I had big issues with two parts though. My son is deaf. I have a bit of experience with a lot that goes into the whole process of hearing aides, talking, sign language, etc...
I just couldn't get over so many is the false facts and actions given in this book.

Also the forced southern. I'm southern. The language in this one bothered me. It didn't seem natural at all.

This was such an incredibly perfect ending to the series and I’d like to thank every one of Tillie Cole’s fans who made her write a book for the youngest Carillo brother even though she hadn’t intended to do so when she planned this series. But I’m so glad she did. It was a beautiful, sweet and also heart breaking story in typical Tillie Cole fashion.

I am once again deeply impressed by her immaculate writing. It’s so vivid and emotion evoking and after only a few pages I realised how much I missed reading her stories. She truly is a fantastic author.

All the Carillo boys left a deep impression on me and I’m glad that I now finally also read Levi’s story.

**4.5 stars**

I devoured this last book in the "Sweet series" by Tillie Cole. I adored the relationship that developed between Levi and Elsie. There was such an innocence to both of these characters, that is was impossible not to love them. Both of them were so shy, and so broken inside, there were perfect for each other...They ended up healing one another through their gentle souls. I loved too how there wasn't over the top drama in this story. I just felt that Levi and Elsie had been through so much heart ache as it was; I would have not liked to see them go through more. This story; in my opinion, was more about their journey in mending each other's souls and becoming stronger and whole again.

I also have got to say that I loved how the other Carillo brothers, and their wives; banned together as a family to help both Levi and Elsie. This was perfect in defining this whole series, as I felt it had the them of love, friendship, and family through out all of the books.

My only complaints, which were what led to docking a half a mark was I found the editing could have been a lot better. Normally if there is an odd spelling mistake hear and there, then I can over look it. In Sweet Soul, there were both spelling and grammar mistakes, and I found it more than noticeable this time around. I also feel that readers should be warned that this story is on the cheesy side at times; but truthfully, it did go with the personality's of the couple.

I am very glad that Tillie Cole decided to give Levi a voice and his own HEA! To me it was the perfect ending to an already close to perfect series! I will truly miss my Carillo boys! They are characters that will remain in my heart forever!!

Her fingers traced the splashes of glowing fluid on the inside of the jar, then she tapped her hand to her chin and lowered her hand. She’d signed something to me. My eyes fixed on her lips, she dipped her eyes and mouthed, “Thank you.”

Very emotional read ...

As a child of deaf parents, I felt a special connection with this story ...

"You’re stealing my soul, Levi. Like a thief, you’re taking my soul and making it your own."

"Your girl?"
"My girl."

Just like our little homemade lightning bug jar that still sat on our window’s ledge, our light would never fade out. And because we had each other, we would never ever drown.

Unlike the other Carilo brothers, Levi is different. He isn't dark, dangerous like Austin and Axel. He is quiet and observant. Elsie was such an adorable girl. What happened to her mother was terrible and it was just too sad.

That's where made this book less interesting to me. Sometimes when you do something and the results come positive you feel good. But then when you overdone the same thing, it seems weird and forced.

There is a Bengali saying that, if you squeeze the lemon too much it becomes bitter ( it's the literal translation).

I felt this happened with this book. I understand Elsie's situation cause it was actually very tragic. That girl is innocent and was a victim of a cruel society. But Levi? I understand what happened to his mother was terrible too. That is where Levi and Elsie felt connected because they understood each other's pain. However, Levi was very young and I don't think it is supposed to impact his life even when he grew older. I understand he might have regret that he wasn't able to spend much time with his mother, but being stuck for this? I just don't buy it.

When I read Sweet Hope I thought Levi's trauma might be gang-related. How he was forced into the thug world, shot someone, and had carried guilt thinking he killed the man while it was Axel who did it. But there was just a brief mention of his gang life and that's it.

The tragedy just seemed forced to me. The romance was also very quick, they met and developed feelings almost afterward. It wasn't passionate like the others but it was really innocent and sweet. There are a few very cute and innocent romantic scenes between Levi and Elsie which I absolutely loved.

It would be great if the epilogue was a little more elaborated. It was solely focused on Levi's life. I wanted to see the whole gang together. That's would have been great.
