Robert Walton sits across from the one man he never wanted to meet. Jacob Clauson, a long term resident at the Reinhold Asylum for the Criminally Insane, is the monster responsible for murdering Robert's parents. When Jacob starts to tell his story, Robert soon discovers that there are far greater things to fear than the man sitting across the table.
The power is out, the doorknob to the room spins in his grip and now there are screams outside the door. All the doors are open and the real monsters are on the loose.
Robert’s reality becomes a spellbound nightmare and to survive he must trust a murderer, survive a gauntlet of madness and learn to believe in real monsters.
S.E.Rise is the pen name of an established author from a different genre. The author wanted to make the jump or cross the bridge to this genre with a fresh start. After the amazing and wonderful reviews for this book the author is very happy for the leap of faith.- S. E. Rise
What's your biggest fear? What is that makes your skin crawl and the hairs on the back of your neck stand up? SE Rise gives birth to the creatures that plague our nightmares in Lest We Become. Robert is a journalist sent to interview a prisoner in a mental health asylum. But this isn't just any prisoner. Its a killer. Its a killer who's responsible for the murders of Robert''s father and stepmother among others. Begrudgingly, Robert accepts the assignment at his boss' s insistance as the killer has agreed to speak ONLY with Robert. But what Robert discovers when he sets down at the once in a lifetime interview is beyond his wildest nightmares and will turn his world upside down! Its mysterious. Its intriguing. It will make you want to read with the lights on! SE Rise is phenomenal in this psychological tale of horror! Dare I say Rise is even reminiscent of the great master of horror Stephen King in Lest We Become! His creative writing style is superb and his characters are enticingly enthralling! He knocked this one out of the park and Id happily agree that its one of his best tales yet! I can easily picture this book as a movie and I think that that fact made it even more creepy as I was sucked into Rise's world of horror from the first page to the last! This is an author any horror fan will need to keep an eye on because I can see more great things coming from him in the future!
Wow!! What can I say about S.E. Rise.. This is a graphic, horrific, intense, freaky, horror story and I loved it. The monsters are so grotesque and wickedly horrifying, I found myself thinking that Stephen King should read this man's work! The macabre creatures are described so vividly that a couple of times I felt the need to wash the gore and guts off me, this will stay with me for a long time. It was very well written and flowed with a very fast pace, I love the story behind the monsters, the HOW they came to be in existence. Very cool! The two main characters, Robert Walton -an investigative reporter and Jacob Clauson- the man who killed Robert's family, are brought together for an interview and that is when things get very interesting. I would have loved to see Robert get home to Jenny! If you love a macabre, sick, twisted, horrific tale , then this is for you! Highly Recommended!!
So I started this book of unsure of what was going to happen and where this author would take this story... After reading this book I have to say this story was amazing!!!! What the author did with this book and the direction he took left me feeling like "What the hell happened" and I never saw that coming at all!!!
Robert must interview the one man he never wanted to see again for a article. Well all is not what it seems with Robert and the man he must interview Jacob. Events happen that will shed light on who Robert really is and will leave you feeling like you're mind was blown!
I can not put into words how much I love when a author will pull me into a story, have me thinking one thing will happen then BAM!! Will take and twist you throwing a whole different aspect on everything that is happening that you did not see coming at all. There was so much going on in this book between Robert thinking he was just going to do a interview with the man he hated most in the world, to finding out the world is not what it seems and how he now will play a huge part in what will happen next.
S.E. Rise definitely has done that with this book! You will get horror with this book along with some gory parts too which were not too bad at all.
I would recommend this horror book to those who love a good terrifying story that will twist you a little and have you on the edge of you're seat waiting for what will happen next!
Wow! What a mind blowing read! I do not even know where to begin. I have been trying to find the words and it is almost impossible. So twisted and yet I couldn't put the book down. It makes the "monsters" of your childhood nightmares come to life with a reason and a purpose. I can not even begin to properly applaud S.E. Rise for this magnificent take on how we scare ourselves into believing what we believe to be truth. I can not recommend this book enough! I am definitely a lifetime fan now.
This book was good. I love horror and paranormal things! Mental institutions make a great setting as well. I was confused in some parts though, and at times I feel like so much different stuff was happening at once that I felt overwhelmed. This book got a 3 for me because even though it was great I feel like some things were rushed and left unexplained . But I still recommend this book to anyone who loves paranormal scary things!
A positively fascinating and bizarre tale. Nothing is what it seems in this story. Your most feared monsters that go bump in the night are given life in this story. Totally a CREEPY and CHILLING read! Don't closely your eyes!!! Very well written and worth the read!
Great read! I recommend this book to anyone who likes a good scare. I love how one of the main characters in the book told his story. I am looking forward to reading another book by SE Rise.
All I have to say is wow. I'm not usually one for horror, but this one kept me on the edge of my seat and kept me wanting more. S. E. Rise has definitely made me a fan of horror books now. Reading this was spine tingling and all the twists and turns. I had started reading this in early evening but once I got to certain parts, even I needed to turn on the lights...lol.
