For South Bay High's bold, beautiful Jayd Jackson, drama has reached record-breaking heights as she finds herself on the defensive at home, work, and school. Maybe it's time to take her destiny--and her power--into her own hands. . .
Her relationship with now-ex boyfriend Jeremy behind her, Jayd realizes drama is just a never-ending part of daily life. Even so, she's reached her limit, battling with her new boss, jealousies at school, and tensions at home. To deal with it all, Jayd is ready to give some attention to her legacy as one in a long line of conjure women. But that legacy comes with a line of rivals too--and a couple of them are much too close to home.
First, there's Misty, Jayd's enemy #1 and current girlfriend of Jayd's other ex, KJ. Then there's Jayd's neighbor, Esmeralda, a conjurer from Louisiana whose crystal-clear blue eyes are said to be deadly. When Jayd spots Misty's mom visiting Esmeralda, she knows something's up and it's time for Mama to fill her in. Turns out there's a history between these families, and if Jayd wants to keep the drama under control, she'll have to learn to use her power like never before--and become the woman she was born to be.

Lady J is the fifth book in the Drama High series. In this book Jeremy and Jayd have just broken up and people are cashing in there bets. Tania who is the mother of Jeremys unborn child is extatic and leaving for New York. With Raheem Jayds ex from her middle school back in her life things just got alot more drama filled but they don't call it Drama High for nothing. I think that this is a text to text. I think it's a text to text becuase it's kind of like the third book Jayds Legacy. I the book Rah has just come back into JAyds life and Tania is just starting to rear her preganant behind trying to ruin Jeremy and Jayds relationship. I gave the book five stars because I couldn't put it down the book. I kept reading the book over and over again I just loved it that much. I feel like this book was sort of like a break in the drama before more got started.
A Teens Connection Don’t forget where you are and make you’ve been/life’s lessons make you into a woman “(pg.31) L. divine’s drama high series “lady J” was set in Los Angeles, tells a typical story of an average teen. A young girl named Jayd Jackson is attending South Bay High School for her third year. Jayd struggles to find her own identity as well as who and what she wants in life. Jayd recently broke up with her boyfriend, Jeremy, after being cheated on, and is trying to find someone else who makes her happy. Then she runs into her old boyfriend, rah, who recently broke up with his old girlfriend to get with Jayd. Talk about your forever romance. Rah pursues Jayd but her keeps denying the chemistry between them. However, time goes on and they both start to realize what they really need. “Lady J” portrayed a connection to how teens of this generation acts and feels because she relates the drama and arguments to what’s going on in teen’s life today. As I read divine wrote more and more in slang such as “ my home girl mad me feel better than that old dumb dread head boy rah” (pg. 101). Divines use of slang made me connect to the characters more because the language that she wrote was more understandable and relatable. Divine wrote to relate to the minds of our generation. The situations going on in the book connect to the situations going on in teen’s life now. There might be complicated relationships going on in your life, and you might not feel or react to them. This book will help because it’s been working for me. A couple months ago I broke up with my ex-boyfriend because he cheated on me, and I would cry my eyes out for weeks on in not knowing what to do. But after reading the book it helped with my problem a lot. To be honest, you should read the book even the series because it will have you questioning the actions you make in your life.
The book that I have read is a novel called Drama High: Lady J by L. Divine. This novel is a fiction story. The main theme of this story is to help others when they ask for your help, how to try to keep away from drama and also how to solve them. Drama High: Lady J is based on a teenager named Jayd. She has a lot of drama going on in her life. Most of her drama is at school. But she would always have her friends there to back her up when ever she gets her self in to trouble. There names are Mickey, Nellie, Nigel, Jeremy, Chance and the boy she loves Rah. There is also some thing special about jayd and her family that is kept a secret from her friends except Rah. I think this novel is an alright book, because in the beginning it was kind of boring to me. I did like some parts of the story, but I think it could have been better. I would recommend this novel to specific kind of teenagers. If you liked any other books by L. Divine as in “Jayd’s Legacy or Second Chance. You might like this story as well. If you would like to know what will happen to jayd and her life full of drama you will read this book and the others to come. This book Drama High: Lady J is a good story to read. It could have still gone better but its entertaining enough to read. Any one could really read it. I may not have liked this book but I think some one else will because it does have some pretty good parts in it.
This book was about how jay'd had all these problems with boys and she hit this other girl pretty hard and the girl did not come to school that next day i really liked this book i will read more when i have the chance i also recommend this book to Cycy, and Alayna.
Lady J Back at school, Jayd’s getting looks and whispers because people have heard about the breakup. Jayd thinks they should be more interested in what’s going on between Chance and Nellie. Some of the students are even collecting on bets they made on how long Jayd and Jeremy would last. Mickey gets them all to display the Halloween pictures they took on their backpacks. Yet, Mickey reminds her she hasn’t forgotten about her punishment. Tanya makes her grand entrance late to class. She’s won fifty dollars from betting. Jeremy says he would have bet a million they’d have stayed together. Jayd hopes they can remain friends.
At lunch, despite wanting to be by herself and out of the drama, Nellie leads Jayd to sit with the crew. Tania comes over flirting with Jeremy and she and Mickey get into it. Mickey throws her fruit punch at Tania and then jumps her and has to be pulled off her by Nigel. Jeremy breaks it up as the bell rings. Tania is livid and yells that *this* is what Jeremy chooses over her. As she leaves she and Jayd exchange insults back and forth. Jayd decides to just take out her anger when she auditions to play the part of Lady Macbeth. On the way home, Jayd learns from a neighbor her grandparents are at it again because one of the church ladies brought her grandfather food. When she gets home, Rah is hanging out with her uncle and his friend in the shed. He’s not happy she didn’t return his earlier text but he gets over it when she says her day was bad but better now.
The next day Jeremy sees Jayd at the bus stop and he offers her a ride. They argue again about the baby and doing the right thing by not talking badly of Tania. (SAY THAT?! JAYD IMA NEED YOU TO PICK A SIDE AND STICK WITH THAT SIDE!) Jayd meets up with Nellie and Mickey at break (despite her plans to be alone all day and hide). Mickey hops on her case about why she’s still hanging out with Jeremy. Now that’s she’s with Nigel her loyalties are with Rah. Nellie tho doesn’t see anything wrong with Jayd and Jeremy being friends. Jayd tho agrees with Mickey they can’t be friends because she can’t get down with how he’s not fighting for his child’s rights and disrespecting his ex. Mickey’s man shows up and makes her go home. She turned off her phone when she and Nigel snuck off to his car and missed a lot of his texts and pages. Mickey tries to get Chance to take Nellie and Jayd home, but Jayd is ready to put her friend's drama behind her and just decides to ride the bus.
Jayd has a run-in with Big Mama’s neighbor Esmerelda which lies her unable to speak and with a major headache. Big Mama warns her to avoid her in the future. At school, a couple of days have passed and Nigel and Mickey are pissed at each other. Nigel thinks Mickey let her man disrespect her and that’s a poor reflection on *him*. Mickey thinks he’s just jealous because her man can “give her what he can’t”. Rah tells Jayd he’s coming to see her after school and this works out because she gets him to take her to her mother's.
Jayd’s mom shares her spirit work notebook with Jayd and she reads about her ugly past with her mother, Big Mama, Nettie and Esmeralda. Jayd learns that Esmeralda tried to take her mama’s man so she concocted a tea that made things fall apart. The next day after a trying day at work when the new boss cuts her hours, she vents to Rah. Rah attempts to cheer her up by telling her told Trish he also wants to see Jayd, but Jayd won’t let him back in that easily. She tells him they’ll talk about it later because his little brother is in the car.
Nigel delivers a message from Rah who's not happy she’s kept him waiting for an answer, but she gives him her own message back that she’s not trying to be one of the ones in his harem. Big Mama takes care of Esmerelda but giving her cats cupcakes and milk to make them loyal to her (temporily). In return, they let her see through their eyes so she can spy on Esmerelda. She tells Jayd how close she and Esmeralda a were until jealousy got in the way. Chance fools around at the audition but Jayd gets to audition solo and kills the audition. Jayd notices Misty hasn’t been taking the bus, and goes to check up on her. Instead, she ends up getting in a fight with some girls in Misty’s neigbborhood. At the shop, she finds out Grandmother died. Misty’s mama is one of Esmerelda’s clients. Jayd finds out Esmeralda and Misty’s grandmother also had dealings. Big Momma says it’s probably about the house because it belongs to the grandmother’s husband (who wasn’t Misty’s grandfather). So, she and her mother are probably worried about where they’re going to live now.
Jayd finds out she gets the role but Reid gets MacBeath. Jayd then finds out that that she’s going to have to share her fifth period with the ASB class and its been decided that they’ll rehearse and have mandatory meetings during break and lunch period On the day Rah picks Jayd up from school, she runs into MRs. Benet who gives her an I told you so about Jeremy. When she sees Rah she calls her easy. Rah and Jayd are about to leave the campus when there’s chaos. Mickey and Nigel have gotten into a fight and thrown each other's phones and destroyed them. When Rah takes Jayd to her mom’s, a strange car is seen driving by and then speeding off. Jayd thinks it’s Trush but Rah doesn’t. Jayd tho knows how crazy females can get over their men (even despite having an open relationship). There’s more drama at work, and Jayd walks out after finding out her hours might get cut. Rah picks her up. She finds out from him that he doesn’t want to hurt Trush, because her brother is his main supplier and she’s been there with him through all his baby mama drama so he’s not ready to be public with Jayd (but he still wants to see her in private). He hasn’t really told Trish this. Jayd thinks its her place to get him out of this drama. The same with Misty. WHY?! Jayd even offers Misty her condolences at the bus stop. Jayd sees KJ snatch Misty up and demand why she’s not answering her calls. There’s something off about Misty so Jayd goes over to them and calls KJ out. KJ tells Jayd to mind her business and warns her to back off. Jayd tells KJ to go to class and Chance comes up behind her with a friend and they back Jayd up. Jayd wonders how she’s going to get Misty home and then thinks she’ll call Big Mama. Mama says that Esmeralda has to leave the neighborhood.
Mama stays in the spirit room all night while Jayd stays with Misty. Misty eventually comes out of her haze. Mama offers Misty a tall, glass, of potion. After she leaves she gives Jayd something to put in her bath water to protect her against whatever is riding Misty. She says maybe it wasn’t the best idea to bring her there. She tells Jayd they don't get involved unless asked for their help.. Jayd makes gris gris sacks to hide in Misty and Rah’s backyards.. Jayd has a dream that M isty and a woman in a veil chase her and call her a witch. Some of the ones chasing her are Mickey and Nellie. They grab her and tie her to a stake. Rah saves her by putting out the torch. Rah calls and says he has a similar dream,. At school, Jeremy tries to talk to Jayd again to convince her to give them another try, but she gives him a test and confesses that she had something to do wih the cupcakes and he doesn’t believe her. Inside Nigel tells Jayd that Misty has started a witch hunt against her and he’s called Rah to come pick her up. Jayd asks Nigel if he believes she’s a witch and he says no but they do some strange stuff in her house. Misty has found the gris gris and throws it at Jayd. Then she says Jayd kidnapped her and buried the bag to get her DNA so she could steal KJ. She accuses Jayd and her Grandma of being a witch so Jayd put her on blast for about to lose her house. Rah and Jeremy come to Jayd’s defense, but KJ says he always knew it was something strange about her.
When Jayd gets home, Mama already knows what she’s done. She tells Jayd she has to go over to Misty’s and tell her exactly what she put in the bag. Misty makes her leave the stuff on the porch. Esmeralda’s over there and she hex’s Jayd again and gives her another headache. Mama makes something to remove the headache permanently and warns Jayd again of helping people that don’t ask for it. KJ comes up to her at lunch and demands to know where Misty is. He hasn’t heard from her. Jayd says she doesn’t know and he friends jump to her defense, It ends with Jayd’s registers coming up short and her quitting as Rah picks her up.
My Thoughts Jayd confused me in this one. From book 1 she doesn’t like Misty because of KJ. Yet in this book, she goes out of her way to help Misty. I know VERY WELL that there are people in this world that are just like that. It couldn’t be me, but sometimes people break their backs to help other people and then do you think these people are ANYWHERE around when they need them? NOPE! But I got it tho. Even though Misty wasn’t Jayd’s favorite person its in a person’s human nature not to want to see someone hexed (or done evil against). You REALLY have to have extreme hatred for a person to just sit by and watch someone do that to someone else. So I do get why Jayd stuck her nose into that situation. But Rah NO! I don’t think she should have gotten involved. Because it’s like this. Rah could if he wanted to get out of his situation ON HIS OWN. He just doesn’t want to. Jayd may buy that bs it’s too early in the year and we’ve been through so much, but I don’t. The only thing I can see is that he’s scared of Trish’s brother (as his supplier) that he just might KILL him if he breaks up with his sister. Which he very well might. So no Rah’s “charm” doesn’t work on me, no matter how much this book tries to make him look ike Jayd’s soul mate. I honestly think she’d do better with Jeremy. And let’s talk about Jeremy. Again Jayd PICK A FREAKING SIDE. You never liked Tania. Did you forget you were about to fight her last book but in this one your lecturing Jeremy about the lack of respect he has for his baby mama? GIRL WHATEVER! I really don’t think you can judge a person either by their family's values. Case in point, there are some people in my family who probably wouldn’t be happy if I brought home a white man. But you can’t say because I’m in the same family as then I have the same values. I don’t value A WHOLE LOT of things my family values. So, I do think Jayd is tripping. She also brought up the point that he should try to take the baby from Tania because he knows what kind of mother she is. Umm. Based on what? Is she basing this on what a bitch she is to her and her friends? Cause if so that’s not an indication she’ll be a bad mother to HER OWN CHILD. I know I know this book is called DRAMA HIGH but sometimes Mickey, Nellie, and Jayd are just too over the top for me! Do they have to fight in EVERY SINGLE BOOK Rating: 5
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I don’t think Rah or Jeremy is right for Jayd but now I want Jayd and Jeremy to get back together. I think it’s because he wasn’t a major character in this back so he didn’t piss me off. Open relationships are icky and I won’t accept Rah and Jayd relationship until he gets rid of Trish. Also I thought the main conflict would be stopping Mickey’s crazy bf. I was hoping Nigel had a brief meet and greet with Jesus. I thought that the vision at the end of book 4 would lead up to more than one scene. That would have made the book more interesting
Tania is pregnant with Jeremy's child. Tania comes out of nowhere and asks Jeremy if he missed her. Mickey gets sick of Tania and throws her drink at Tania and it splashes all over her chest. Tania calls Mickey a hoochie and Mickey attacks Tania.
The book reminds me of the time when my friend got in a fight with this girl in my school over her constant gossiping. She got sick of it and started jumping her. This book made me realize true friends will stick up for you no matter what because Mickey was sticking up for Jayd in the situation. Jayd was just sitting there taking in what Tania had to say. An important theme is don't run your mouth where it is not needed.
Jayd and Chance are auditioning for the part of Lady and Sir Macbeth. Chance kept joking around so he had to sit down. Jayd was forced to audition alone. Jayd got Lady Macbeth and her enemy, Reid got Sir Macbeth and he was happy. Laura, Reid's girlfriend said Jayd won't be Lady Macbeth for long.
This book made me realize that some people are jerks and they wish for the worse for some people. The character, Laura, is confident because she is so sure that Jayd won't be Lady Macbeth for long. If I were Reid, I would quit the play because Laura is jealous and he should feel bad for her.

Misty is getting yelled at by KJ and Misty isn't feeling well, so Jayd decides to help out Misty. Jayd stood up for Misty when Misty's crew didn't. Jayd takes Misty to her house and Mama gave Misty some "lemonade".
The character, Jayd, is a good person because she stood up for her enemy, Misty, when no one else would. If I were Misty, I would be ashamed because someone I despise helped me out when no one else would. I learned while reading that some people make friends with the wrong people.

Misty and her crew are after Jayd because they think she's a witch. She got Nigel, Raheem, and Jeremy on her side though. Misty thought Jayd kidnapped her to school to steal her DNA. She thought that Jayd wanted Kj back.
This book made me realize that Misty is a bad person because even thought Jayd helped her, she is still accusing her of things. The character, Misty, is always coming up with stuff because she can't accept that Jayd helped her. If I were Jayd, I wouldn't have helped Misty because of the way Misty reacted.

Book shout Out This book is about alot of drama with jayd and her boyfriend. Drama High is like for high schoolers the problems that are in this book alot of people in middle school go threw the same proublems in the book. Jayd as a enemy name Misty and everyday there is always proublems between them. One thing I like about this book is that it is instering. No matter how i am feeling i could read this book anytime. i think this book should win an award. Just like Bluford Series i read the whole Drama Series and its the BOMB!. I love the characters in this book becasue they have great dialouge. One issue that stuck with me after finishing this book was the aguring part with Jayd and misty it make me think about a emeny i have and like me and the girl agure worst then misty and Jayd. i will remonmmend this book to anyone that loves drama.
Reading this book was easy to relate to. As I continue to read the book, I realize it was a series of these and I was caught in the middle part of the book. However, the plot was basically a typical high school girl who is having boy trouble and the normal girl drama. This book was easy to relate to because the book touches on most problems that a teenage girl goes through in their high school years. The only thing I didn’t relate to in the book was her spiritual side in the book. The main character Jayd she was into witchcraft. The witchcraft was passed down from generation to generation through the girls in her family. The reason the witchcraft kept me interested because when it was clear that it was passed down. When Jayd went to go visit her mom, she realized that her mom went through the same experience with the witchcraft as she did. When Jayd says, “ After all the stories I’ve heard over the about how much my mom dislikes the spiritual side of our lineage, I thought she would have destroyed any evidence in her possession years ago.” This quote illustrates how this has been passed down through the generations of the women. Even though Jayd mother didn’t have much interest in it, Jayd was still amazed how her Mama (grandmother) used it. All and all I would recommend others to read this book. It was a wonderful book to read and once you start it’s hard to stop. This book is very easy to relate to because of the realistic scenes that occur.
Reading Lady J will take you for a spin.So many characters, with so much drama.Mickey and her juggling a gangsta unnamed boyfriend, and a star football player at her school, with a rumor which is actually true going around saying that she is pregnant and she do not know who the baby daddy is.Nellie and her undying love for Nigel who is currently with Mickey. Then we have Raheem,or as we like to call him Rah and his baby mama drama.Jayd,it seems like drama will just knock on her door and wont even ask just walk right in and make its self comfortable.Drama seems never ending wen its in Jayd's life.
Reading this book, you will see how much drama a certain person can only handle, with so much thought.
When reading the Drama High series,I notice that it kind of resembles Wagner, there is drama, this week, two weeks later, then it turns into a month. But the same thing keeps happening.People having a big mouth, planning to destroy the person involved with a dirty little secret.I then notice this resembles Wagner because some of the characters act like some of the people I know and those people are not good people. But the people I know ,and are really cool, are people who don't mean to be in the drama.
Drama High: Lady J series #5 by L. Divine is a interesting and good story. L. Divine did a good job. It’s well written and it’s phenomenal page.
I understand that Jayd has a good caring heart to people that she cares about but she needs to understand that no one doesn’t need her help. Jayd needs to focusing on her health condition and herself. Misty is stubborn, selfish, ungrateful, disrespectful and judgmental. Misty needs to pay attention to Esmeralda because Esmeralda is evil woman than Mama and Jayd. Nigel and Mickey have their own love & hate relationship to each other. Both of them are playing the dangerous games and playing dangerous heart to their previous relationship. Rah wants to have a open- relationship with Jayd but Jayd doesn’t want to be his rebound girl until he’s completely done with Tisha.
I can’t wait to reread Courtin’ Jayd series #6 .

Jayd just got realer. This queen is hairy! Hooray. Lead us Jayd into the world of strong women. So Book 5. Jayd has to deal with residual Jeremy issues, and now Rah, who has a girlfriend but is dating Jayd on the side. She still hasn't given up her cookies. But now the drama at her school revolves around everyone finding out about her legacy and calling her a witch. She made the mistake of trying to help Misty break out of Mama's enemy neighbor, Esmerelda's spell. She made a charm bag and planted it in Misty's backyard. But the shit hit the fan and now everyone's calling her witch. Stay tuned for book six. which hasn't been written yet.
Lady J is about Jayd, who has drama every day. She breaks up with her boyfriend Jeremy but he tries to get back with her. However, shes moved on. Her neighbor Esmeralda is like a witch with her blue eyes. In fact she puts a curse on Jayd, she gets headaches every day. Girls are jealous of her because boys like her. She also gets into fights with them.
During reading this book, I made a text-to-world connection. Many girls like Jayd get in big fights with other girls because some are jealous of others.
I give this book 5 stars because I really like how the author thought of many ideas to keep the book interesting. I would recommend this book to people who like "mean girls" books.
in the book "Lady J" Jayd has to learn how to live with the bad influence some people have towards her. there is a woman named, Esmeralda, and she wants to make Jayd's life a living hell. She put this spell on Jayd and now she keeps havng these painful headaches. we can't let anyone have that power to make our life miserable. if you don't like me than oh well. we have to take a bigger step than them and leave them behind in the dust and let them know that they ain't shit to us. Jayd has help from her grandmother and that's all she needs. Esmeralda is nothing compared to jayd and her grandmother. with the help of others we can do anything.
Jayd is back. Drama is even worse now that mamas worst enemy is here.. Esmerelda. Can mama and Jayd have enough powers from their ancestors to survive this challenge? In this book I can make a text to text connection. In frenemies, Jayd is apparently Jeremy's "charity" case. In this book when they are broken up he seems to treat her with more respect and listen to her more often. I gave this bok 5 stars. L. Divine is a wonderful author, i'm glad that she can write about this wonderful girl Jayd. Keep writing!
I like drama high lady j its so so so much drama. I am going to tell you about the book in the beginning lady j was talking about her boyfriend and who likes her boyfriend. lady j says her mom is going to pick her up because she was so tiered and her boyfriend taking her to work. So she said she do not have time for a man right now . so, i forgot to tell you that her friend [well not really her friend she dont like her alot]like her boyfriend. so they are doing a battle thing. well i have to get back to the book. Its a really good book. you should read it sometime. bye.Enjoy the book.
This was a very good book to read because it was expressed in a unique way. I enjoyed reading this book. This was about a girl named Jayd, but her friends and family call her Lady J. This book is about "Lady J" trying to overcome a mission and to succeed in life. She is a college student and faces many obstacles during the time, but in the end she overcomes it. This was a very good book and very detailed.
This book was about Jayd and how Jeremy was trying to get back with her. It also was about how Raheem he ex-boyfriend was having troubles and she made him a gris-gris. But Misty her enemy was having problems to and she made her a gris-gris but she found it and made everyone think she was a witch.
Loved it. Jayd just trying to do her and stay drama free from everyone. But you know that the drama has a way of crash landing in front of her. Dealing with Esmeralda, Misty, her frinds and family can never be drama free.
this book actually have alot of drama in it and i loooooooove this book alot i think jayd shouldn't pay missy no mind because she just hatein on others girl who be hangin with kj
