Banshee Hunt

Rate this book
James Henderson was once a proud cop. A detective. A husband and father. But then the world of magic came tearing into his world and that life ended.

Now five years on he's a hunter. Tasked with tracking down rogue witches and wizards for the Illuminati. It's not the job he dreamed of. It's not the life he loved. His co-workers don't respect him. He's forever in trouble with his bosses. They even tried to take away his Sig and give him a magical toy gun! But it's a job and he's good at it.

Then the banshee entered his life, and his world was turned upside down once again. Suddenly he had a whole new problem. And a question to answer.

Was he the hunter? Or the hunted?

2.5 stars.

I wanted to enjoy this a lot more, but it just wasn’t meant to be. The premise was interesting, but I didn’t find the world building strong enough. The details that were given were repeated quite often as was the inner monologue of the H. Getting the POV of the H in a story is a treat for me, but this guy was too Debbie Downer for me to like. We get it. Your life stinks. You hate your brother and are suspicious of all magic. You’re broke and drive a super old car. Plus, all the flack that the H got for being unemotional felt mean after a while. He worked with these people for five years and that’s how they talk to him? Kind of sad.

Then there was the strange and awkward romance. I’m glad this book wasn’t filled with intimate scenes or details since the content that was there was weird. None of it resonated with me and the story could’ve done without it.

And finally, there was the writing style. It was a lot of telling, not enough showing. The writer repeated things. A lot. And the serious lack of commas where needed bothered me. One star for an interesting premise, one for a safe read, and half for a decent H who tries his best to do the right, albeit often unpopular, thing.

What wouldn't you do for your child? After coming to terms with the fact that magic is real, a former NYC detective joins forces with a magic governing agency to hunt down Rogue magic users in order to protect his own daughter.
A good read with a MC full of bitterness and no real magic, using the skills he learned as a cop to get the "bad guys". Oh, and he had a gun that shoots spells (which he hated and instead mainly used his Beretta). Plenty of action as our reluctant hero Hunts down the perpetrators and begins to wake up from the years of living for only his job and daughter just in time to realize that a simple crime is actually much deeper and pre-planned than anyone would believe.

I truly hope this is the start of a series as the author has left himself so many directions to go and for character development. If the author fails to turn this into a series he will have failed himself as well as all the readers of the book since there is just so much more you want to know

For crying out loud, a banshe

Great start for a new series. Very creative. Never heard of a gun that could shoot spells!.
Main character is interesting and there is lots of action.

Paranormal cop

Emotionally stressed, violent and a little paranoid our hero is also smart and practical. Modern day setting. Magic is real and really secret. Curtis has a gift for writing heroes. This would make an excellent tv series
