Rate this book
When a stranger who holds the keys to her identity arrives in town, will the girl everyone knows as Brenda come to terms with her past or run again?

From New York Times bestselling Texas romance author Jean Brashear, another TEXAS HEROES small town love story set in beloved Sweetgrass Springs…

All the girl known as Brenda Jones has ever wanted is a home and family, but she's on the run from her past. She works hard and stays to herself, save only for her budding friendship with the equally shy Henry Jansen.

Henry wants more than a simple friendship, but he’s convinced she’s too young, too innocent, too sweet. Brenda has a crush on Henry, as well, but she’s underage and terrified of being put back in foster care, where she’s spent most of her life since her mother abandoned her at age eight. She’s been flying under the radar, hiding behind a made-up name while finding a different sort of family and home in the year since she arrived in Sweetgrass Springs—but that’s about to change.

When a stranger who holds the keys to her identity arrives in town and takes a job at Ruby’s Diner, will the girl everyone knows as Brenda come to terms with her past or run again, away from the people and the life she's grown to love?

A letter to Rod Stewart resulting in a Cinderella birthday for her daughter sowed the seeds of New York Times and USAToday bestselling author Jean Brashear's writing career. A lifelong avid reader, at the age of forty-five with no experience and no training, she decided to see if she could write a book. It was a wild leap that turned her whole life upside down, but she would tell you that though she's never been more terrified, she's never felt more exhilarated or more alive. She's an ardent proponent of not putting off your dreams until that elusive 'someday'—take that leap now.

Over fifty published novels later, the five-time RITA finalist and RTBookReviews Career Achievement Award winner has accumulated a whole passel of war stories to swap and loves nothing better than talking writing and books with readers and fellow writers.

And she'd still take that leap, war wounds and all.

Audio Review: Texas Sweet: A Sweetgrass Springs Story by Jean Brashear (Author), Eric G. Dove (Narrator)

Texas Sweet reads like a puzzle waiting to be solved. All the pieces are there, but the way they fit is not as easily identifiable. Brashear and Dove are a formidable team when it comes to setting the stage for heartache. Henry and Brenda are caught up in circumstances beyond their control. Secrets surround them, heartache awaits them, yet love may be what carries them home. With a realism that is as breathtaking as the emotion it evokes, Texas Sweet is a soulful tale that is not easily forgotten.

The unwanted child finds love and a place where she belongs

Brenda finds a place in Sweetgrass where she waitresses at Ruby’s Cafe and works at the flower farm and hopes to have a florist shop someday. She also worries about having run away from the foster care system and feels she is inadequate because her mother just left her with no explanation.

Henry is a sweet young man whose parents were killed in a car accident. He was raised by his grandmother and when she could no longer manage he took care of her until her death.

They both arrive in Sweetgrass where the town and it’s culture surrounds and supports them. Well written characters whose story adds to the earlier legends.

Yahoo, we finely get Brenda and Henry's story. We've been dealing with these two for many books. We finely find out what Brenda is hiding and about her past. Brenda has not had a very good history but the fact she was able to grow up to be sweet, I find amazing. Henry kind of gets on my nerves by referring to Brenda as too young all the time. I really wanted to yell at him. Both Henry and Brenda have more in common then you can imagine. I found Henry and Brenda endearing and the fact there is love and forgiveness. I really enjoyed Texas Sweet.

This was awesome, two sweet innocent soles with backgrounds to break a heart, have come through it with sweetness in tact.
And the all encompassing great town of Sweetgrass. Where Brenda’s past comes back and you find out the truth. Narration was awesome up until it stopped working.

Another terrific book by Jean. I loved finally learning Brenda’s story. What a sweet romance between Henry and Brenda. I love that each book catches us up on what’s happening to all our other beloved characters. I can’t put any of these books down.

Excellent story!

I !ove the story of Brenda and Henry with the back story of Blue woven in. I also appreciate that the various citizens of Sweet Grass Springs follow through book after book. It's like being reacquainted with old friends.

Jean delivers

Finally, Brenda’s story comes to life. Such flawed, human characters. I like the reoccurring story line of previous characters. Thank you.

This was Brenda and Henry's book, but mostly Brenda's. I listened to the Audiobook, and as usual, Eric G. Dove did a stellar job. The slightly different inflections he uses to give each character a voice is amazing. Having listened to some the other books, I am wowed that I can recognize the characters just based on hearing the narrator

I enjoy going back to Sweetgrass Springs and all the people in this town. You can't say that it and its residents are problem free, but it is pretty idyllic. Both Brenda and Henry found a place that accepted them as they were and helped to incorporate them into the Sweetgrass family.

We get to learn a lot more about Brenda. When her past collides with her present, not only Henry, but the rest of the town is ready to stands with her.

My only wish is that there had been more of a story including Blu after Brenda discovered the truth. Maybe there will be a book featuring Blu somewhere down road.

This was a truly sweet story. Romance, a few kisses, and some really happy moments. I voluntarily listened to and reviewed this audio book received from the author.

You've done it again, Jean. A beautifully, tender, story full of hope and longing. We should all be so lucky to be as unconditionally embraced by trust and acceptance as the residents of Sweetgrass Springs are. It's these simple gifts of gifts of trust and acceptance that give two background characters their chance to shine; the chance to find themselves and each other. Their journey toward love will make you sigh, touch your heart, and beam with joy. The opportunity to catch up with the lives of characters from previous stories is a comforting bonus. Fell in love with Sweetgrass Springs all over again.

Once again Jean has outdone herself! I love how she tells her story about two main characters - this time it's all about Brenda and Henry, but yet the story continues to feature all the people living in Sweet Springs and keeps you updated in their lives. Once you start reading any of this author books you can't put them down until the end and then want to pick up the next one to continue reading about these amazing, loving, caring individuals of Sweet Spring.

Sweet story

I really enjoy this series and finding some new authors. This is a story of a young girl who has had a hard life, yet perseveres and makes something of her life. Finding love, new friends and her mother again after many years turns this story's towards its happy ending.

Amazing

I love this series. It is a warm hearted feel good story but with some nice twist as well. I would encourage everyone who likes this books to start at the beginning of the series and work your way though all of them. They are all stand alone for the most part S well. But you get so much more out of them!!!

I am so glad this book was narrated because, at one point, I wouldn't have been able to read due to the tears in my eyes. This is Brenda and Henry's story, finally. Thank you Eric G. Dove for doing a remarkable job of narrating. And especially thank you Ms. Brashear for writing another heart touching book. Please keep them coming.

A great story of finding your self and family. It took a bit to get into it but by chapter 3 the story started to take form. Really enjoyed Brenda (Dilly) story and how she made something positive of herself. Loved Henry for all he does for Brenda. Highly recommend the read.

I can't get enough of this series. Love Jean Brashear and her stories. This one - as the rest of them - is an emotional roller coaster. But I am so so happy that Brenda found her happily ever after. Can't wait to see what happens next.

Brenda's story is one of heartache, but her time in Sweergrass will bring her healing. Henry did not plan to stay, but he loves Brenda. An emotional read. The narrator, Eric, is my favorite.
