I have had this cookbook for probably 10 years, if not more than that, and it is the best, most reliable one I've come across. I've made probably 20+ recipes from it and only 1-2 dogs. I feel totally comfortable using recipes I haven't tried before from this book to entertain because I can trust it.

If you can find this, buy it.

One caveat is that it is not at all concerned with being health conscious. It's not wildly over-the-top but if the dish will be best with butter and cream, that's what the recipe will call for.

Enjoy!!

I saw a copy of this book on a shelf in a café once and commented on it to the chef there, telling him it was my favorite cookbook. He smiled and said he liked it a lot too, and that one of the recipes it contained was contributed by him, but without consent to publish it unattributed; one of the women who'd been compiling recipes had something she liked at his establishment and asked for the recipe. He called it out while he was working, mostly forgot the incident, and was surprised to see it show up in this cookbook later. I imagine that's how many of the recipes were acquired.
That said, this cookbook is wonderful, and remains the best I've ever encountered, most recipes simple to prepare and all of them good. I've even used several of its recipes on my foodie blog: DadHomeChef . I've given perhaps two dozen copies as gifts to family and friends over the years, and our copy is getting a bit frayed after 20+ years of regular use.

I got this cookbook back in the 90's when visiting Laine in Seattle. My copy is full of stains from using it over and over. The salads and fish recipes are wonderful. All using fresh ingredients that we have the fortune of having regular access to.

The fancy recipes were not very user-friendly to me, but I suppose if someone was planning a dinner party, it might be a useful book.

I love this cookbook! When I travel I try to buy a cookbook from the area, mainly the Junior League cookbooks because I know the recipes are tried and true and will be fantastic.
