3 1/2 Stars. The beginning was a little slower than normal. The last 1/3 really picked up and was exciting and fun. This mainstream series is still very addicting, and recommended for paranormal fans.

Still loving it

Maybe it's me, I dunno. But this one felt a little more laid back know. All I can say is Thank God. I don't think I could finish the series at this rate.

In this book you watch the team pull together to become a company. To the outside world they wanted to appear normal. You know nothing happening here move on kind of thing. They have computer technology, ships, helicopters and protected SUV'S. They are even looking for a military base to purchase. Err did I mention the spacecraft? Oops! My bad! Guess what?.....They have a spacecraft.

Stephen is sorting Europe and BA and the TQB are sorting South America. But it now seems they have a reporter stalking them. Someone should tell her.... don't do that.

Did I tell you about the dog that joined BA ripping the throats out. Yeah he came from no where. And he got hurt. Thank God we have two vamps now. Yep he lived.

So still plenty of action. But this book let you breathe. It kept the adrenaline pumping just a little more sedateley. The cussing is as inventive and colourful as ever. Enjoy!

“Bite This (Kurtherian Gambit 4)” continues the amazing series of BA and her team.

As a minor historian buff, I particularly enjoyed the way the story continues to link WW2 and Argentina with events today.

Ivan and Stephen’s daughter Gabrielle discover a squeaky bed, so yeah…there’s now a bit of hetero activity in the series….perhaps BA will meet a girlfriend one day? We can dream!

The banter among TQB team is hilarious, and Emily Beresford brings it to life terrifically. Tom, the AI alien pilot talks with Gabrielle through BA, which is pretty cool.

BA decides the team needs uniforms, and of course she makes sure that the uniforms are fashionable! For the women, they each get $30,000 handbags, so yes!

BA is often angry, and discovers that “in cycle” her anger is now infinitely stronger with her increased strength! hahaha Later, we learn several hilarious new terms for BA’s unexpected period, as she tries to convey the situation to women on her team: “it’s shark week”, “the storm has made landfall”and “the uterus ninjas are here” were a few of my favorites! hahahaha

The team continues to expand, and the only minor flaw with the book is the frequent retelling of what happened in books 1-3. For fucks sake, if people haven’t listened to the earlier books don’t slow things down for the rest of us! By book #60 the author won’t have any time for new material if he keeps with the retellings! 4.5* after deducting 1/2* for the handholding of newbies.

I read this as part of the boxed set Death Becomes Her / Queen Bitch / Love Lost / Bite This / Never Forsaken / Under My Heel / Kneel or Die

Okay, now it's getting a little ridiculous. I don't know how humans can even think they can beat up vampires and if they have so many muscles like the author describes, they would be slow. You can't be that big and fast if you have been given the special juice.

And the swearing that I thought in the beginning was smile worthy, I am now sick to death of. Especially when the older men get into it. Let's just stop, please. So this series started at a 5, then became a 4 and now is a 3. The author mentions how books 2, 3 and 4 only took weeks. You can tell.

I cant get enough of this series. It is such a great fun fast paced series! (audible review)

So much action, butt kicking and boy does Bethany Anne have a way with words. So much fantastic dialogue throughout the entire book. These stories are pure entertainment. I love listening to the narrator's and author's commentary/notes at the end of the story.

As for the narration, it is great! Emily Beresford does such a great job narrating. The men sound like men, everyone get's their own distinct voice she reads with emotion and her end comments at the end of the book are very entertaining, She really does like reading this series.

This is a must listen series!!!!!

About nothing

All the mostly male characters live in a self congratulatory white middle aged world. Class and educational boundaries don't exist but military background required. No one not meeting those qualifications exist in this story, Except for women who are more attractive, worldly and/accomplished than these men, yet are thrilled at the prospect of getting involved with these guys.

I've known women with that kind of low self-esteem in real life and it's not pretty and they're never happy. Any other woman has to be unattractive, ex-military and know her way around a fifty caliber machine gun. All the women except for any machine gun Sallies, must spend mandatory clothes shopping hours weekly. A girl (woman, my friend) has got to look her best for her overweight, socially stunted, poorly educated, plain poor, middle aged potential boyfriend. The writer lives in a sad world.

The plot is hard to find, though I'm sure it's somewhere. There is real emotion and introspection, just not in this story. For a plot twist in a future volume, it would be wild if any of them were to meet a black, Hispanic or Asian american. Of course it would be difficult finding one in Florida or any of the fifty states, really. Just throwing out ideas to the author.

There are some pages that almost seem like character development, which peter out. I can't figure the author out, it's as if he had a clue for a moment but got too scared to follow through.

I've said it before, I'll say it again:
WHY don't more people read this!

This author, Michael Anderl, has a way with words. Somehow, he has managed to make me, someone who's not a great fan of SF, fall in love with this series.

To all you out there who are reading this, give the series a try! Best case scenario, you find one of the best series you've ever read. Worst case, well, you just DNF one more book. Not the worst that could happen, right?

Fun action series. No pretense of being fine lit. The author discusses his work to churn these out quickly in his book notes. Although I mark down for cliff hangers - these are not as annoying as most although each book does not end. It always feels like putting something down mid-chapter and a bit of a surprise when you see his end notation.

Sadly this one is not a 3 star but 2.5 to 2.75. If you like the other books I am sure you will like this one as well. I am currently on book 5 and I am still finding this series just okay but it is still holding my attention some what.

update
Okay so now that I found out these books are really a serial and written in less than 30 days I will have to bump them up by one full star, even tho I am not really into serial type books.

Still enjoyable these straight-forward "action movie books" where everything is a bit too easy, and there's some annoying repetitious elements... I just can't put them down... I want to see the team make it to space and maybe encounter a threat they can't roll over so easily...

Bethany Anne’s group is ever expanding as she deals with the forsaken. Again this us a fast, easy, enjoyable read. The editing seems to be fixed in this book. This is a mixture of paranormal urban fantasy, black ops and a little sci-fi. Rapidly becoming a favourite

I'm enjoying this, but the endings are getting sloppy, like they know it's going to pick up right where it ends and relatively quickly so why close it up?

But it's fun stuff.

good read, fun, but nothing spectacular either

This was an okay next installment in the series. The author could have possibly shortened some of the scenes in the various books and merged them together for a better novel though.

Some ideas and concepts brought in are well handled and come across as believable. The handling of an emerging potential AI was well designed and thought out. I was even impressed by the level of techno geek speak the author used, he must have a bit of an IT background to explain it as well as he did.

The negative to the series is that the TCQ group never fails, or if they have any setbacks they just magically work out to be for the best. This is supposed to be fiction, not a magical fairy tale that everything works out perfectly.

A few examples of this are they are discussing possibly using a dog as a Forsaken/Nosferatu tracker, and the amazing coincidence, when fighting them in Costa Rica, a German Shepherd suddenly appears and is attacking the same bad guys as Bethany Anne and her entourage. Another is when the General and Frank mention they would like to purchase an old military base, but there haven’t been any like that in the US for quite some time. Then suddenly a base is being decommissioned, and surprise above all, it happens to be the one the General used to be in charge of, and even has the ‘Michael cage’ that started the whole series off in book one. Even the introduction of the AI was too easy. It was mentioned in a previous book, that they’d be interested in creating an AI in the future, and would need to look into the technology. Then unbelievably, a company who just happens to be part of Michael’s portfolio has one they ‘accidentally’ created within the last seconds of another project, but hasn’t escaped from their confines yet

It’s all just too convenient. It makes for a poor story and doesn’t draw you into the whole as much as a story where the characters have to address their shortcomings and even fix things when they fail. Story plots are about conflict resolutions. If everything is written so that every scene just easily goes from step A to B to C, the reader doesn’t get pulled into the story like they could have been. I initially enjoyed the series, but it’s getting entirely too predictable and trite. Even the recurring joke regarding the groups use of creative cussing is starting to fall flat.

I’m all for making lemonade when you get handed lemons, but the characters don’t get lemons, they get perfectly sanitized plots and even when something goes slightly wrong, it turns out to be a hidden benefit.

I think I am beginning to understand how the author is so prolific. If he doesn’t put in any character conflicts and then use conflict resolution to fix them, it’s a lot easier to write a bunch of words that look like a story. Sadly it’s just not a great story if so much of the good parts aren’t supplied. At least it’s a fast read, if not a great story.

3.5 The Last Beautiful Smile You See Before Hell Takes You Stars

Bite This is the fourth book in The Kurtherian Gambit series by Michael Anderle.

I was super excited to finally see one of her vampires finally get the upgrade in the pod of the ship. I still think it’s annoying that so few of her guard or TQB that have even just been through the first stage. I’m honestly surprised not more people have died. And that we see the ship moved in this book, along with her inviting more people she trusts into her secret.

This trouble with ADAM is very exciting and suspenseful. Whether they will be able to bring about the first major technological advance on their path towards space at such an early point in their journey. Whether this creation will be malleable and create slither evil they must face and protect against. (Crossing all my fingers and toes for their success.) I honestly want to see them decimate some corrupt politicians or world powers with their AI once it’s hooked into the internet and building itself.

Hopefully we actually get to meet Clarita’s children in this next book. It’s honestly not much of a shocker to find out that David is working with Anton. But I was practically floored when they admitted to holding Michael hostage. We probably have to assume at this point that Carl is no longer with us, and that hurts to know.

Costa Rica offered up ample battle time with the increase in Nosferatu and Forsaken acting out in their power grab to fill Clarita’s vacancy. We get our first interaction with paparazzi/media in this case as well. The Superintendent Rodriguez is of questionable character and leads me to believe the woman Galini may not survive very long. Also, Bethany Anne now has a badass sidekick German shepherd. Which is going to escalate this book so much more. Battle dogs people, be prepared.

Oh! The progress we made in Europe/Frankfurt is but the first step into bringing the corrupt left to their own devices to heel. But it was extremely entertaining and I loved this insight into both Stephen and Ivan through so much of the book.

Very addictive reading

I haven't reviewed a book in a long time now, simply because of the fact that I have become very lazy. I am probably a authors nightmare, a reader who will thoroughly enjoy every book in a series written by the same author but never giving the writer the credit that is due to him or her.
After reading the blog written by Mike on this novel, I ended up feeling rather guilty for what I can only describe as "taking the liberty" of enjoying another slice of this very yummy cake but, not having the good manners to say thank you.
Mike, do accept my apologies and let me tell you that I have devoured the first four novels in the Queen Bitch series. I have found them to be well written and entertaining enough to keep me reading well into the night. You have me an avid fan of your work and will be reading all the instalments of this series before going on to read your other works.

Series is getting better

TQB is growing her support staff and my enjoyment of her mission. So looking forward to the next installment. The author's notes after the book are great. I do hope he keeps those notes after each book. Now, on to #5.

Awesomeness..

Wow, wow, wow! I absolutely love this series. Bethany Anne is so incredible. So powerful yet so down to earth. She kills anyone who mistreats humans so that’s a point in her favor. And I love her two best friends Ecaterina and Gabrielle. Laughed like crazy when she went a little nutty before and during the last battle. I thought that was great, because TOM told her she had her period AND Gabrielle would be next. You’ll have to read the story to find out why these two vampires are getting their periods and can now have children.

I also like that a dog showed up during the battle and killed one of the enemy and stayed by Bethany Anne’s side while she continued to fight.

I also like the unbelievable change in Pete’s attitude since he’s been with Bethany Anne and her soldiers. I really did not like him in the first book and I was hoping Bethany Anne would just kill him. BUT she had her men take Pete under their wings and now I adore him. It was pretty much straighten up or die.

And I loved Stephen and Ivan at the bar. Stephen had an awesome way to pick up chicks.

Overall, this is such a great, great series. The first book was just OK for me and I wasn’t going to move on but I listened to my daughter and read the second one, Queen Bitch, and they’ve gotten better with each book.

And I do like that the go to different countries with different characters: Costa Rica for the battle, Las Vegas to check on men building an AI, somewhere near Nassau on the two yachts of Bethany Anne’s, Washington DC with Lance and Frank taking care of political business, Germany with Stephan and Ivan then back to Romania, and wherever I missed mentioning.

As I always say there’s no sex but you don’t need it when a series is this good.

As to the narration: Most female narrators have one male voice and that’s all. And I’m good with that. As long as a man sounds like a man everything is fine by me. BUT Emily Beresford gives every man and woman their own special voice, with Romanian accents or German accents, it doesn’t matter. She just does a phenomenal job on these books.

I really like this book series. It is fast, fun and action filled reading.

The story of the ass kicking vampire and her team of bad assess continues. As usual it is a fast paced book with lots of action. Having said that the main story arc advances but not as fast as one would believe. For me this is a good thing. Even though there are lots of things happening it does not feel rushed.

The science fiction part of the story is still not taking up a huge amount although it is slowly creeping into the books. This is another thing that I like together with the fact that, even though other people are now getting the “treatment”, Bethany Anne still is the dominating big, bad and intimidating bad ass vampire chick.

Bethany Anne is, well, Bethany Anne. Bad language? Only if you are (over)easily offended. Fun language? Hell yes!

I think this book is the one of the books I have read so far where most of the threads were left open at the end. There is really not much of a conclusion to anything. Actually it does even end in a bit of a cliffhanger. Normally that would annoy me and I guess it actually does a bit but I cannot say that it diminished my enjoyment of this book. Maybe that is because the next one is already published so I know I can pick it up when I want.

Well, the bottom line is that I truly enjoyed this book (as I have with the previous books in the series). If you are already a fan of the series this one will not disappoint.

Oh, I'm loving this series more and more!

Bethany Anne needs to get things together quickly, so that she can go after Michael's Forsaken children. But, to do that, she needs more people on TQB, a good sized yatch, enough computer power to create a sentient AI, and the Kurtherian ship that has been left for so long, hidden in an inaccessible mountain valley.

She's fortunate that she now has two new allies, and even her father has joined her group - but she also needs to wipe out the Forsaken and their Nosferatu, who are deliberately causing havoc all over South America, and also causing so much death and mayhem in hotpots around the world, too.

Bethany Anne is determined to get everything done that needs doing and, with her team onside, she's sure to do so - but where is Michael? And will she ever be able to trace Anton and David, those truly Forsaken sons that Michael had left on the loose?

As usual, the characters and plotlines in this fourth book of the series, are excellent, and, when I wasn't laughing out loud at the outrageously funny curse words used so effectively by Bethany Anne, and her team, I was almost out of breath, trying to follow this fast actioned plotline!

I'm really loving these books SOOOOO much!

We follow their journey as they advance their fleet and build an army to protect an earth that doesn't know what's out there. At the same time, they have a vampire war to squish and the hands of governments around the world to slap away from their goodies.

I love the supporting characters as much as I love Bethany-Ann. I enjoy the cursing game and the repercussions of being a lazy cusser or a disrespectful twiddle dickson.

The love connections within the crew continue to happen. Although nothing for our FMC yet, she's saving the world and didn't expect to have any of this power till much later. But something happens with opens up a question of more in the future.

Brilliant detailed action scenes, good character development especially as the characters grow in numbers. Even get an idea of the type of person a small character with a little role in one chapter has. All of it adds depth to the world and has me invested.
I don't feel like I have to rush on, but I know I will remember and pick right back up when I hit the next book.

Now....be careful with your unimaginative cussing, or she will beat you with your own ripped off arm 🫢

Can you say PERIOD? OMG Mr. Anderle really picked up the pace in this one. TQB is growing nicely and the character list is growing longer. I love Gabrielle and her addition to TQB squad. I feel bad for Eric though, lol.

The way BA is able to maneuver and help people to really embrace their differences and strengths as well as their weaknesses is amazing. She never makes them feel inadequate, but is honest to a fault. She gives them hope and a drive to be better than they were!

Oh, and don't forget the new devil incarnate badass pooch that appears out of no where. I love when animals become part if a story by being amazing and doing things most animals would not do!

This book had me on the edge of my seat, and while explaining a lot of things Mr. Anderle never bores one with the monotonous dialogue and monologue about planning and such. That to me can make or break a story, but he balances this with that perfectly. I am looking forward to see what happens next, and how BA handles Anton and his plans for the "Patriarch"!

I absolutely love this series!

This is book 4 and I’m barely into the overall story arc. Each book includes growth of the size of Bethany Anne’s companies and team members, coverage of the intelligence side, the battle side, the different relationships going on, the expansion of her knowledge of what she and others can and should do, what is happening in America, Europe, and on the boats, etc. Each book has at least one major antagonist character that is confronted and battled which leads toward a major character they are searching for. In this book we learn more about Michael’s disappearance. There is just so much happening but not so much as to throw you out of the story with overload. I don’t recommend reading this book before the first three. You would be lost. I have been reading these books through Kindle Unlimited but am slowly buying them in ebook format to permanently add them to my library. They’re that good!

Love the story, love the laughing!

This series should be sub-sub-titled "Creative Swearing 101", 102, etc., and I'm quite shocked to find that my ears are bigger prudes than I was in my 20's! (Small town girl😏). Okay, bigger prudes than I am now if asked to repeat out loud damnit. Whatever, it still makes me laugh out loud often while reading.
The stories are good, fast moving, action packed, and it's hard to tell what is coming at you next! I'm binge reading these things, so I'm glad there are so many stories to come.
Hey, if you love everything in a book that I've mentioned but aren't big on swearing? Try one anyway. Skim over the swearing and enjoy the rest. I love that this sci-fi series spends so much time on earth before even discussing going up. The time spent on characters makes them so much more real. You don't just have a team of guards, sailors, support troops, they're more. I'm going to go read now.
