It's all about Sherif Sonbol's pictures -- exteriors of pyramids(or piles of rubble as many of them are now), interiors of tombs, and scenes of daily contemporary life near the antiquities from hard-to-get-to sites like Sohag and Minya. And honestly, I didn't know there were pyramids down in Aswan and Luxor.
The text is aimed at the starry-eyed tourists, as opposed to the long-term resident or die-hard digger. There are a few nuggets new to me, but since Peter Snowden is not a name I've heard of in digger circles, they are nuggets taken with a grain of salt.
I will say this: Whoever wrote the captions, then he deserves to be flogged, drizzled in honey and set out to dry in a field of fire ants. Examples of caption vapid-ry:
"The dexterity of the Luxor stone carvers always astounds the visitor."
"Foot ironing is the most practical way of dealing with long robes."
*sob* It hurts me to see a good picture defaced with drivel.
