Lena Andersson (born 18 April 1970 in Stockholm) is a Swedish author and journalist. She won the August Prize in 2013 for the novel Wilful Disregard. In the same year, the same book, won her the Literature Prize given by the Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet.
It is possible that I struggled with these two books in one, because they are too well-written. What I mean is that the cringe-worthy logic behind Ester's suffering in unrequited love is all too recognisable from my own experience. Although not to this extreme, I've certainly been in that situation and it's painful to remember one's own stupidity, no less to read 600 pages on the subject. So, to summarise, these novels are cleverly written using beautiful language, and for anyone who enjoys a bit of philosophy it's fun to see how Ester twists and turns theories until they are the shape she needs them to be, but I didn't exactly enjoy the novels as novels if that makes sense. Experimental fiction is certainly my thing, but these were perhaps a bit long-winded.
