A team of four authors draw on their research and their practical experience raising rabbits to offer a guide for beginners and hobbyists and a reference for professionals. First they overview rabbits and rabbit production around the world. Then they consider practical matters such as breeds, equipment and housing, economics and financial management, feeds and feeding, diseases and health, reproduction (just stand back), welfare, producing various kinds of wool, meat, and marketing. Earlier editions appeared from 1955 to 1996, the first four under the title Domestic Rabbit Production . Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
This book is worth EVERY PENNY. It's basically a textbook for raising rabbits--literally, like a college course; in fact I hope some school somewhere has an ag course on rabbits using this book--they could even work with a genetics class and do labs predicting the colors of kits cuz they kindle so quickly!!! (I'm a genius). It covers everything from the history of using rabbits, to cage set-ups, pelting, kindling, addressing illnesses, and even very detailed explanations of rabbit genetics. It's an interesting read and a great reference to use over and over again. If you are just interested in having one pet rabbit, this probably isn't your book. If you are interested in rabbits as pets and/or home meat production on a small or large scale, this is totally your book ;). I'm very impressed with the authors of this book, they did exceptional work. An extremely useful book!
