Healing through Deliverance: The Foundation and Practice of Deliverance Ministry

Rate this book
Jesus's ministry included not only preaching and teaching, points out British Bible teacher Peter J. Horrobin, but fully one-third of Christ's recorded healings involved deliverance. In this groundbreaking work, Horrobin urges believers to exercise the authority of Jesus in this often-ignored dimension. Through in-depth Scripture teaching, he demonstrates persuasively that the charge Jesus gave his disciples to heal the sick and cast out demons was a vital part of the Great Commission for the whole church for all time.
Formerly two volumes, Healing through Deliverance is now available in a single hardcover edition. It lays out the biblical foundation for the ministry of healing and deliverance. It also shows how people can become affected by demonic powers and offers keys for bringing about healing through deliverance. Readers will find practical guidelines for building and conducting a healing and deliverance ministry through the local church and in ministry and counseling centers. With this complete work, believers will be equipped to respond to all of God's call--to preach the gospel, heal the sick, and cast out demons.

Tremendous book.

This is a must-read for every Christian, and indispensable for anyone on a ministry team or doing counseling/inner healing. Peter Horrobin carries with him not only 28 years experience of formal healing and deliverance ministry, and has set up over twenty global training centers, he is an excellent and very comprehensive teacher.

No single summary of this book can do it justice. I filled half a notebook with quotes and notes from the teaching, and read about a quarter of it aloud to my husband at intervals. It opened up our eyes to areas in our own family histories where things may have crept in that were not of God's order or intention, and we were able to take authority over these things for our own sake and those of future generations.

Here are a few questions posed by Healing Through Deliverance:

Can a Christian be demonized? What is the difference between the soul and the spirit and how do they relate to one another and to the body? If Jesus spent as much time healing the sick and casting demons out of people as He did preaching and teaching, why do we see so little of the other half of His ministry being carried out in the West? Why does years of Christian counseling often end in so little fruit for individuals and marriages? Can we inherit curses from our ancestors? Didn't Christ's death on the cross end elements of the Law, such as generational curses? Aren't some things like yoga and acupuncture harmless, so long as you're praying during the activity?

All these questions are answered in extensive detail, as well as much, much more. Even for those who have had strong foundational teaching in spiritual warfare and healing and deliverance, this book goes well beyond the basics and offers phenomenal Biblical teaching. Here are a handful of quotes, at random selection:

[on illicit sex and ungodly soul ties] "The key to this lies in understanding of sex being spiritual first and bodily second, or even third."

"If we pick and choose the passages of scripture that we like and understand, to the exclusion of others that we might have to wrestle with a little, our Christian growth becomes stunted and effectiveness of our ministry suffers severely."

"Know your enemy" - a war maxim that the church must not ignore.

demonically influenced Christians are one of the leading obstacles to the deliverance ministry

"If Christians who criticize those who minister deliverance were actually doing the works that Jesus commissioned them to do, it is unlikely that they'd have time to monitor the orthodoxy of others."

When Jesus said, "He who does not gather, scatters" He was speaking within the context of deliverance ministry. Churches that do not practice deliverance actually are scattering the flock.

Forgiveness and confession are key to so much physical healing.

Addictions, allergies, eating disorders, compulsive behavior, deceitful patterns are all common indicators of possible demonization.

"Deliverance ministry should never be considered as a replacement for a clean walk with The Lord, obedience to Him, and dealing with the flesh. Demons should never be used as an excuse for sinful behavior."

When ministering effectively in healing and deliverance, there is an open doorway for evangelism, and almost always a hungry audience.

This book should be read by every new believer!! I read it within a few months of accepting Jesus Christ as my Savior and the Holy Spirit began to do the awesome work of cleaning up years of bondage and strongholds and the information in this book helped so much in bringing to light things I may not have known that open doors to the enemy! Very, very good book!!!

With 578 pages it was a bit of a marathon, but well worth the effort. This book clearly explains the ministry of healing through deliverance. It takes a long look at how Jesus healed and delivered the sick and demon-possessed and gives an in-depth 100 pages to explaining the many ways in which a demon can enter a person.
Anyone who has an interest in or feels called into a healing and/or deliverance ministry would benefit from reading this book before attempting to work in this ministry because it is important to understand the implication of getting it wrong.
