I really wanted to like this. It had all my favorite tropes and it was a great story, but the delivery was just a bit too disjointed for me.

This book was a DNF for me. Hard to believe she goes from a purity ring with no experience to being slutty in the next chapter.

I get the inspiration behind this story and I enjoy the concept, but I have to say, I was cringing in some parts. They say write what you know, and this book is a fairly prime example of why. The minority filled slums our hero goes back to for a pick up game while hearing gunshots in the background. How very white savior of him to provide his apartment to his friend with a junkie girlfriend rent free in those same slums. The whole way the foster system was explained. I don't care what state you live in, you can not just go to a foster home, point at a child, say I want that one, and them take them home the same day. So many questionable things.

Cute
This was a cute story, and the background story was original and creative. I did actually like both characters. I could have really loved it which is why I have this 3 stars instead of 1x moving on to why it has 3, I didn’t live some of the parts of the story. I’m not a prude at all but they jumped into sex too quickly. It didn’t fit the characters at all, it was weird. She should have had them hang out once or twice and watch a movie. It would have explained how a virgin wearing a purity ring is suddenly hoping into his bed. And honestly it felt like he would have hesitated a little more because he was aware of their shared history even if she wasn’t. He had her portrait as a child, tattooed on his body for Pete’s sake! . That being said, this story also needs a crap ton of editing. She needs a re read or someone to clear up the grammar and also to steer her in direction of tying up loose ends, story lines etc. The author could really benefit from a few beta readers, and if has some then she needs some new ones. There were so many times I noticed that something could have greatly benefitted with a paragraph here or there.

I could not finish.
I love these type of stories and I needed a break from the heroines who just give it up with a wink and a smile, but this heroine drove me nuts. Lucy accepts a drink from a guy she barely knows at a party. In this day and age has she not heard how guys try to slip something into a girl's drink?!?!? Nate, the hero, saves the day, but I am not sure why he would want anything to do with Lucy. Who drove me nuts and I was only at 10% in the book. The Disney movies was over the top. Then there was the annoying roommate that pushes sex.
The story did not flow. The verbiage felt awkward and very immature.
This may work for you, but it did not work for me. Reading is subjective so you may love this. I liked that the heroine was going to be an innocent and not just give it up, but she was annoying mixed in with stupid. This is set in college, not junior high.

Different than what I've been reading
This is quite a bit different from what I've been reading lately, and it was very enjoyable. This was a great book, and a standalone, which is nice for a change. This book was well written, with interesting characters. It kept me interested throughout.

This book was a bit all over the place for me. Lucy is a virgin with a purity ring determined to wait until marriage. That was thrown out the window pretty quickly when she meets bad boy Nate Compton the new basketball player at school. Everything after that became about sex. Nate and Lucy turn out to be step siblings that were placed in the foster system. Lucy got adopted and Nate ended up doing time for killing his abusive foster father that he tried to protect Lucy from. She didn’t remember but when she did she was mad, sex resolved it. She got annoyed at him for his anger issues, sex resolved it. I like some spice in my books but there was so much in a short book that it detracted from what could have been a good story.

This was a DNF at 18% for me. Normally I try to at least get through 25% of the book before I give up on it, but I just couldn't with this one. Lucy is described as being very innocent, which is fine, but she was annoyingly innocent. All of her "fake cursing" was really irritating; i.e. Cheese and crackers instead of jesus christ, fiddlesticks instead of fuck, I mean really? It's fine if you don't want her to curse, but if that's the case, then leave it out all together. Those just make her sound like a 12 year old. Her "friend" Amber really pissed me off too. First of all, announcing to the world that Lucy is a virgin is just messed up. Second, if your friend is so inexperienced and naive, wouldn't you pay more attention to her at a party and make sure that she isn't taken advantage of? I understand trying to get her out of her shell, but you can't just shove someone with a purity ring into a room full of frat guys and say "hey here you go, you're on your own."
As I said, I only got 18% of the way through the book and already Nate was admitting to himself that he was falling for her. I love me some instant attraction, but that's a little too insta-love for me. I would have liked for some more angst and development in that area. If he's this constantly angry and aggressive person, somehow I doubt he would let his walls down that quickly.
This synopsis of this story drew me in immediately because I love sports books, especially in college settings, but this one, unfortunately, did not live up to the others I have read. I agree with another reviewer who said it felt more YA than NA.

Her dad is the dean and she is a young woman who is like a Disney princess- she doesn’t cuss, doesn’t go out , is a virgin, is the quintessential Daddy’s good girl ( and is looking to break free for the right man) Into Lucy’s path comes Nate – he’s known as the bad boy and at college , he is the new star college basketball player who when he catches sight of Lucy, he instantly wants her.
Lucy couldn’t believe this sexy and popular guy wants her attention yet she is drawn to him as well. When they meet Nate literally knocks Lucy off balance. There is twists and turns to their burgeoning relationship because certain people do not want them to get it doing .But with a revelation so intense and possibly shocking, will it be enough to tear these two apart? And take everyone that’s in their path down?
I really enjoyed the main characters and their outlook in the story. Watching how they started the story and by end, how they ended up- did they get a good HEA? It makes this such a fantastic story.
My rating: 4.4 stars ****

I received this for an honest review. This is the first book I have read of Teagan Kade. This was a good read.
Lucy who’s father was the Dean of the college she attended. She was the good girl. The one that still head her “V” card and did no wrong. Her main focus was studying and getting good grades. Her father wanted to find the perfect guy for her. Boy was he bad at that.
Nate was know as the bad boy. He was going to the same college as Lucy but knew she was to good for him. Nate had a rough past. I looked at him as he went through the fire and came out on top.
Lucy finds herself in some serious danger. Nate is there to help her. He has a soft spot when it comes to Lucy. There is more to Lucy and Nate that meets the eye, but sorry you will have to read the book to see what that is.
Things gets hot and heavy between Lucy and Nate. Obstacles seem to be in their way. What will Lucy’s father say if he finds out. Can Lucy and Nate bet all odds?

This is the story of Nate who is the bad boy troublemaker on the basketball team, and Lucy, who is the perfect daughter, with the good grades, and when Nate is in need of a tutor in order to get his grades up, he is assigned to Lucy. These two have an instant and intense attraction to each other. Will Nate persuade Lucy to walk on the wild side? You really need to read this for yourself to find out.
This is an entertaining story, with secrets and pasts which will be revealed. I was intrigued and captivated throughout this story. I recommend this authors work for all.

There were so many elements in this story that just didn't do it for me. All the characters needed a lot more development, as did the plot. As it was, it was boring. Maybe if we heard from the H (I can't even remember his name anymore) it would have been better.

This book does have triggers. Especially, if you were in a bad foster home. It could even be, a home with violence. Verbal or physical abuse, to the point where it was a life, or death decision for a child, to decide to live.
This is an erotic romance of sorts. Yet, it is a sad and disheartening reality that children in the system are exploited. The Dean of the college is also a single father, that adopted, Lucy Middleton. However, her father has orchestrated a back story that no one, but he and, Nate know about. One thing is for sure he knows, Lucy from when they were both back in foster care. In fact, he even wears ink that reflects the time, back In foster care. It tells those who are brave enough, to ask, that the girl meant something, to him.
The Dean puts himself in the position to set up the two, Luck and Nate for tutoring sessions. He needs to maintain a 3.0 GPA to continue playing on the basketball team. At first, Lucy wanted no part in helping him. But, then she starts to think... It was not his fault I wasn’t paying attention to the game, especially sitting so close to the court. He did make up for the next weekend.
She attends a party, with her roommate, and, the captain of the basketball team slips, her a roofie. It was Nate that sees the whole exchange happen. He decides to follow them What he finds, let’s just say it is not good. Not a good ending for, Charleston, either. And, the Gamma Phi sisters and Nate Compton are looking to exact their own justice for hurting their girl. Payback is a beach. Oh let’s just say she, and, Nate find no more use for the purity ring, she was given by, her dad.
Lucy has become a nympho. To the point of not being careful, about hiding their affair. She was the one for sure that wanted, to hide it. Although he knew he had, too because of her dad, and the warning he gave him. Rock meet hard place. But, there is more going on, that is beyond their scope, of sex fog. She has a stalker, that her dad had inadvertently put on her scent. And at one of his games, a guy in the stands gave him a finger gun to the head and shoot symbol. What is going on?
They are moving fast in their relationship, and the team is, on fire until they’re not. See how things start, to go terribly wrong. When things go south with her dad’s job, and, the truth of their past is revealed. Things blow up like a bomb. This is a story of a couple of children who were put into, the foster system and end up, in the exact same place. But, oh how the journey was so, vastly different. This is a very good read. The thing is the emotional back and forth was a little OTT at times and not enough at others.

Okay… starting off fairly strong, it has me hooked. Bad date? Creep-o? She’s giving good girl vibes? Okay it doesn’t add up but I like the roommate, Amber, she’s just a vibe.
Oh my day, look at this:

Also she claims she knows nothing about sports - “ Dad’s the basketball fan in our two-strong familial unit. He tried to get me involved—boy, did he try—but sport has never been my thing. ” - , yet she agrees with Nate on the court “ He’s in the right. The block was clean. ”

Also, of course she judges a book by its cover [E.G. Nate] he’s hit and tatted and she immediately goes ‘Oop. That’s Danger!’
Oh my gosh. She (I just found out the Female Main Character’s name is Lucy) just got hit in the head by the basketball. BAHAGHAHAGHAHAAA

Wow, neither of them have any self dignity. The hospital scene really really was something.
After Reading:
Okay so the pacing was terrible. The plot wasn’t the worst, the idea was there it just came out terrible. There is a shitload of spice. And the characters have no personality.
I think all of that speaks for itself, don't you?

This book had so much promise but it needed to be at least a hundred and fifty pages longer. The spice was decent though the word velvet started to make me cringe.
Lucy: she made this big thing about being a virgin and then lost it to essentially the first dude she had a spark with in college. Like obviously that's what happens a lot of the time but the fact that she told him she had to move slow and then in the same scene they're literally ripping their clothes off was a little aggressive. Then, somehow without any experience was doing all these wild things which seemed against her character.
She also treated her dad like shit, we never really dug into her trauma which I'm pretty sure she doesn't even know she has. We never had a cute movie date between the two of them when a big part of her personality was disney movies. We never found out about why she has the ribbon.
Nate: was an okay bad boy but we never really dug into his trauma, we got a little sneak peak when he took Lucy back to where he grew up but that was essentially it.
Creepy date: he couldve been such a good villian but even the solution with Lucy's dad just felt very abrupt.
Team: It would've been nice to learn more about the team life and certain characters backstorys to make their lives add to the story.
Amber: besides bringing her to the game and saying the one team mate was a creep for drugging her, she really was a useless character. She wasn't a great friend especially since she knew she was a virgin and essentially left her alone in a huge frat party. Never checked on her when she just happened to decide to go upstairs with him.
Plot twist: that couldve been such a good twist but you could see it coming as soon as Lucy talked about her past. The way her dad and Nate handled it was dumb. The way Lucy spiraled and literally goaded her dad was also so immature.

She also treated her dad like shit, we never really dug into her trauma which I'm pretty sure she doesn't even know she has. We never had a cute movie date between the two of them when a big part of her personality was disney movies. We never found out about why she has the ribbon.
Nate: was an okay bad boy but we never really dug into his trauma, we got a little sneak peak when he took Lucy back to where he grew up but that was essentially it.
Creepy date: he couldve been such a good villian but even the solution with Lucy's dad just felt very abrupt.
Team: It would've been nice to learn more about the team life and certain characters backstorys to make their lives add to the story.
Amber: besides bringing her to the game and saying the one team mate was a creep for drugging her, she really was a useless character. She wasn't a great friend especially since she knew she was a virgin and essentially left her alone in a huge frat party. Never checked on her when she just happened to decide to go upstairs with him.
Plot twist: that couldve been such a good twist but you could see it coming as soon as Lucy talked about her past. The way her dad and Nate handled it was dumb. The way Lucy spiraled and literally goaded her dad was also so immature.

This was a great book I was going back and forth on whether to give it 4 or 5 stars! I really got into this book, I couldn't put it down. I was glad it was a quick read. The reason for the 4 star would be because there were a handful of time I couldn't follow along with what was going on. I had to re-read and still wasn't sure what was suppose to happen. Also it was Nate's chapter but yet it was Lucy who was narrating and reference about him!
I gave it 5 stars because I did love the storyline. They have awesome chemistry together. I gasp when I realize it was Lucy on his tattoo, the girl in the window. There were also times when I was laughing at something someone said. I love it when I can laugh about something in a book. I think Nate wanted Lucy to remember her time in foster care herself. I don't think that would have ever happened on it own. She always wanted to block that part of her live out. It would have been nice to have a few more chapter in the book about Nate and Lucy's time together after he recovered from his arm injury.
I always like to see what happens to the charters in the book in 5 to 10 years. I would have loved to know how much time has passed in this epilogue. We know Lucy is going for her bar exam, I wanted to know what Nate is going to do.

DNF'd. This book had a good basic plot which I am a fan of a bad boy athlete falls for a smart girl in an enemies-to-lovers trope. However, this one just wasn't for me. First, the main female character sets the scene on her date and then is off to look at guys with her roommate at the basketball game. not exactly the bookish quiet girl we are used to but that's fine. Then she says she hates that her dad taught her all the rules and such of basketball yet she gets really into the game which is kind of contradictory. Then she says she is not interested in dating but can't stop drooling over the main male love interest even before she meets him.
The male character, on the other hand, was pushed so much into the broody, snap at everybody for every little thing (like serious anger management issues), and had a not-so-great past.
I felt like the author was trying to push these characters into very cliched roles but doing it in either a contradictory and unbelievable way or just too much. It ended up making me not like either character or care about them. If that happens I don't care about the story or what happens and don't want to read.

The ending blindsided me. But it did in the best possible way.
Kade has written a sports romance unlike many other's I've read, and believe me I've read more than my fair share, where the main story line isn't the guy gets the girl. It's the sadness and reality behind the characters which allow you, the reader to fall in love with Nate despite the cockiness!

I try to not let average ratings affect me, but sometimes you can't help but have that nagging voice tell you "this should better" or "this should be worse."
I think... this was good. I enjoyed it. Or maybe because the last book I read was so bad, the bar set for tonight was so low that anything could make me enjoy it. Whatever the case, this was enjoyable. Sure, some things just magically decided not to happen... and other things just magically decided to happen...
That scene at the hospital reminds me of that scene from 13 Reasons Why... that was funny. I mean... when you tell someone to leave...

Nate grew up in foster care. Rough times for him is an understatement. He got a scholarship to play ball but needs to get his GPA up.
The dean has a soft spot for him and has his daughter tutor him.
Lucy fights is hard but can't be held accountable when it comes to her dark knight covered in tattoos. He saved her from being drugged at a party and will continue to protect her.
This mountain of a man is a soft cuddle bear when it comes to his woman.
Great story lines, knew some things were coming but also a twist I didn't see.

They had issues but they fought and never gave up on each other👏👏👏👏👏

Lucy and Nate was meant to be. After all the went through together as young children and after not seeing each other for so many years they were still attracted to each. Everytime I read a story about the terrible things children go through in foster care, it makes me so mad because I know some foster parents do abuse children in real life. These experiences damage the children for life and unfortunately, some people can be so judgemental without sympathy or help for these children to overcome the reason for their behaviour. Brilliant plot

This was my first read from this author and it has taken me a while to write a review about it. Decent plot line, Dean's virgin daughter and bad boy on a scholarship. Slammed was a good read, I enjoyed reading and seeing the chemistry develop between the characters. But for me I think this one could have been a bit longer, with more time for more character development on either side. But that is me being really picky. It was a good read and for that it's 3.5 stars.

Boring good girl and Disney princess wannabe, Lucy Middleton, is the Dean's virgin daughter...then she is hit on by Nat...with a basketball!
From that point on things get exciting. Not telling any more, just buy the book and enjoy the story!
