Mirrors: Book Two

Four years ago Aaron swapped lives with his twin brother Troy, who was in trouble with the mob. When the deceit was revealed, Aaron feared he would not only lose his life, but the love of his brother’s husband David as well. When Troy’s insane plot to let his twin take the fall for his screwed up life unraveled and it appeared Troy’s life was over, Aaron hoped his life with David could truly begin.

Aaron and David now run a B & B on a beautiful Hawaiian island, and life is almost perfect until the handsome and charming Randy Carlton buys the house down the beach from them. From the onset, Randy gives Aaron the feeling that he wants David. They soon find out Randy will have David at any cost… even if he has to kill to do it.

The phrase evil twin is defined by Wiktionary as: "A duplicate or counterpart of something or someone that acts in a contrary, nefarious, or insidious manner." In 'Man in the Mirror' by A.J. Llewellyn and D.J. Manly, Troy (Randy) Aaron's sociopathic twin brother, gives this definition new meaning. When he returns from the death he faked, he's got one thing in mind and that's getting David back. He's altered his appearance, but there is no way he can completely mask his personality or his mannerisms. At first, Aaron and David are taken in by this odd, but seemingly generous man; they ignore the signs that he's not who he says he is. Even when they do suspect he is other than he seems, they dismiss the familiarity they feel, calling it coincidence is because they think Troy is dead, and it's impossible. As Troy weaves his nefarious web, Aaron and David, more than ever need to stand united and not let him succeed.

The second book picks up from where the first one 'Mirrors' leaves off. Hoping to make a new start, Aaron and David have opened a bed and breakfast in Hawaii. Although it's a lot of work, they are doing well and are happier than ever. After all they've been through, it's a tremendous relief. They couldn't have anticipated the tsunami heading their way in the form of Aaron's twin brother, Troy. They thought they'd left Troy dead and buried back in the States, out of their lives forever; but they underestimated his deviousness.

Aaron is the first one to sense something isn't right about this new neighbor of theirs, Randy. From their first handshake, he felt it and, although he can't explain it, he still can't shake the feeling of doom that the man seems to emit. Mixed in with it is the absolutely obvious way Randy goes after David. David can't see it and tries to make excuses, i.e., he's lonely; he's hurt; he's just being friendly. This begins to drive a wedge between Aaron and David, who thinks that Aaron is being jealous and imagining things. As Aaron becomes more convinced that it is his brother, his mood becomes sullen and communication between him and David becomes strained.

This book definitely lives up to its genre description as a suspense, mystery, and thriller. At times, I could hardy stand the angst of wondering what was going to happen next. I was so emotionally invested that I couldn't put my Kindle down until I saw how it was going to come together; and it did, in a most splendid way, with the story lines woven together, flowing into one big happy ending, for Aaron and David, and with Troy receiving my nomination for the Best Evil Twin Ever award. He is a man you will love to hate. The first book in the series 'Mirror,' gives the background information necessary to prepare you for this, the second book; therefore, they need to be read sequentially. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a story about intrigue, danger, action, and love. Thanks, A.J. and D.J., for the superb experience.

Complete nut job. One crazy psychopath on the loose with his eyes set on one objective.

You'll either read this guilty pleasure for what it is or you'll groan that it's too obvious, too contrived and to Fu@ked Up. The villain in this book is so manipulative and tossing so many seeds of discontent around that eventually he'll have to be caught, but how soon? How much is lost?

A lot. Lives are lost and ruined in this fast-paced thriller. Throw in some nasty sex and an idyllic setting and you've got this addictive, ill-advised rendezvous read. Check realism at the door.

Recommended for readers who like to see how far off the tracks a character can get with a story that runs off the rails

Review written for MM Good Book Reviews

This story is part of a series and must be read in order. For four years Aaron and David have had a fantastic loving relationship, they might have started out rocky but they are on solid ground now. Running a B & B is hard work but Aaron wouldn’t change a thing, David is still a personal trainer and he misses him when he is away but they are living a life in paradise. Randy has set his plans in motion, he has waited four years to take his life back and no one and nothing will stand in his way.

H-o-l-y c-o-w, you could have knocked me down with a feather when I started reading this book, damn I never saw that coming at all. When I finished Mirrors I thought the story was wrapped up beautifully, but, cracking open this book, I realised that I had been hoodwinked. This story opens up with Randy ending the life he has lived for four years so he can embark on his planned new life, he ties up loose ends and sets off to integrate himself in Aaron and David’s lives. Aaron and David begin to fall apart as insinuation and manipulation manoeuvre them like pawns on a chess board. Rumours, bad reviews and cancelations have them wondering just who has it in for them, but when David receives a package Aaron knows just who it must be.

This is a fantastic story that surprises and thrills us, it holds us in suspense as we follow the story and see the manipulations of a twisted man begin to wear a loving couple down. We are left with a trail of bodies, terrible rumours and a man hell bent on getting what is his and to hell with what he has to do to get it. Aaron and David’s relationship is wonderful, it is strong, passionate and sexually charged, and they have a hot sex which is loving and passionate. There are a couple of times that you really do worry that Randy has got his wish in driving them apart but the suspense is brilliant.

I have to recommend this to those that love suspense, devious minds, loving couples facing challenges, hot sex, a brilliant storyline and a great ending that you weren’t sure you were gonna get.

Man in the Mirror by AJ Llewellyn and DJ Manly continues the gripping story started in Mirrors. It starts four years after Mirror ends with Aaron and David running a B and B on a small Hawaiian island. The blurb tells the basic facts of the book, but there is so much more to this thriller. I dare not add anything else because it could spoil it.

This is a character and plot driven tale that pulls you in from page one, moves you along with a smoothly flowing , nail-biting plot, then doesn't let you go until the very end. The backstory lays a very solid and informative foundation for the storyline, but doesn't overwhelm you with it. The transition the first book to the second is smooth and seamless with no jarring jumps. The characters are vivid, gritty, three dimensional, and could be your next door neighbor. The sex runs from brutal and kinky to tender and passionate, with hot locales and even hotter men. I really like how the authors have written a tight, taut, and extremely powerful thriller that leaves me guessing just how far a man will go to reclaim what he considers to be his.

The skillfully blended writing style of the authors is crisp, clean, and powerful. They deftly weave a blend of ruthlessness, obsession, manipulation, revenge, love, hope, and ultimate sacrifice into a psychological thriller that grips you from the beginning, takes you on a dark journey with a cold blooded psychopath, and doesn't release you until the very end. The book has a powerful and unexpected HEA ending, with a wild twist that I didn't see coming. If you're looking for an enthralling, entertaining, and gripping way to spend a few hours, then this is DEFINITELY the book for you!!

...what...
I can't decide if it was a telenovela or a TV drama.

Well, one thing I can say. Dude. Troy's totes certifiable. It's great. In a "this is a book" sort of way. Because actual killing is bad, of course.

Eh. I dunno. Did I like it? Hard to tell. It was so hectic. And I remembered so little of bk 1.

Do people really react that way? Is it really easy to get duped? That's why I have issues with it. How realistic is it for someone to insinuate themselves into the lives of others? Now, I'm paranoid and don't open up easily, so I can't really think of any stranger becoming invaluable to me in such a short period of time. I suppose if I were completely cut off and it was the only form of support I seemed likely to receive...

Aaaand that's why it's TV drama.

Still, it was kind of interesting, if hectic and at times incredulity-inducing.

Disappointing 1⭐ ( ︶︿︶)
I honestly didn't like this book. I feel like there shouldn't have been a sequel, honestly. Also, I was really upset that Dave didn't believe his husband. How can you completely distrust your husband and be against him because of a few simple emails??? And without wanting to hear any explanation. (💢𝅒_𝅒)⁉️

I didn't really know how to rate this book. I was torn between giving it 3.5 stars or 4 stars but I decided on the latter at the end of the book.

Book two was a frustrating and thrilling journey for me. While I expected some trouble in paradise between Aaron and David because of Randy's presence,as what the blurb says, I didn't thought it would be this complicated. I was really shocked when after a couple of pages, I realized how this would play out. I was really thrilled of how the author carefully orchestrated this act. I enjoyed this book a lot and got really into it I almost just wanted to beat the shit out of Randy. Oh boy, you'll really hate him to the bones!Truly, he's one smart psycho and how he planned out everything disgustedly amazed me.
David and Aaron together happily really made me happy. They deserved it after all the shit Troy brought to their lives. I came to really love this couple and trouble seems to really clung to them. There's troy to blame for that anyway. I was confused of said marriage tho. I would have loved it if the author gave the reader more details of such occasion. A few more questions popped up in my head left unanswered.
I came to really dislike Randy but at the very end, I couldn't identify what I feel towards him. I just felt empty. After all the frustration and anger he 'd gouged out of me, feeling sorry for him didn't feel appealing at all even at the very end. I like the author's writing and I might find myself reading another book of their's in the future.
Anywayyy...so what really made smoke reeked out of my nose were these.

Woooot! this review came out unexpectedly long. Anyway, after all my rant maybe you;d wonder "Why the 4 stars then?" It's because I really like this book; the plot, the suspense, the characters, the author's writing style and the fact that it maintained my interest and attention the whole time. So yeah...there goes my 4 stars!

These are just my own notes. Maybe someday I'll get to a review but right now I have to get my notes off my dying ereader.

Tribute to MJ: EWWWWWW. How do people still--never mind. I've seen how the mind twists things to fit what it wants to see and not what is real.

Beginning with Troy went on WAY too long. Our heroes didn't show up until page 22. We were in Troy's head too much.
Gregory TSTL. Stockholm Syndrome but still.
Health code violation cooking for guests without a shirt on--GROSS--and David would know that. Head hair in food repulsive enough but chest hair? **shudder**
Troy's memories of past debauchery with David began to get uncomfortable for me. It just pulled me away from the Dave I'd come to love in past book and this one.
Troy is pure evil.
Don't buy that ex wouldn't recognize him, that he wouldn't recognize that Aaron wasn't Troy.
Editing: At least three times used the wrong name for the person talking, e.g., "Troy said then Troy replied..."
No way would they leave their hotel at a bad time like this and take a weekend away, especially not leaving it with someone they barely know and who had already given them bad vibes.

Man In The Mirror (Mirrors #2) by A.J. Llewellyn & D.J. Manly
4.5 stars
M/M thriller
I was given this book for an honest review by Inked Rainbow Reads.

I will begin this by saying that I did not read book 1.

I loved this story. It's not often that you get to see exact opposites in a story.

This tale had mystery, murder, love, deception and sacrifice. Troy was devious to the Nth degree - which I loved. But, he was also conniving and manipulative, which was awesome for this story. I loved to hate this character and the authors did a great job at portraying him.

Then you have Aaron - he was like the lost puppy who was repeatedly kicked. It was sad and heart wrenching to watch his struggle through this story. But, in the end, he was resilient.

Finally, you have Dave. He was not a super huge part of the story, but he was integral nonetheless. He played his part perfectly and I truly felt for him.

Coming together in a perfect storm, these characters portrayed this amazing story. I loved it and read it all in one sitting. It's not long, but it's packed with all aspects that make a great story.

3.5 rounding to 4 cos I'm feeling generous. :3

It's not as wild and exciting as the first book, but it was still a satisfying read.
I don't like how Aaron persona becomes too feminine here (I meant he sounds like a well-trained housewife!!), but it also makes him adorable. Oh well...
