My name is Tina. I’m a freshman at USC, a good student and friend…
And I’m a victim.
Hot guys make my brain turn to mush. So, the fact that I was arrested then survived a massive earthquake only to be shackled to the fox next to me can all be overlooked, right?
Okay, so I was arrested before I met Luke. A tremor that caused a blackout at the LAPD precinct where we were being held. Although technically, I wasn’t shackled to him, I was handcuffed, but still. Any and all lapses in my usual—totally sane, I might add—judgments, are his fault. Totally.
I wouldn’t typically do the things I did. I’m no outlaw. I’m a college student.

1980: You Shook Me All Night Long is the first of ten contemporary romance, new adult, stand-alone stories set in the 1980s. Written by award-winning and bestselling authors, the novellas will be released each month January - October in 2016.
RONE Award-winning author Casey Bond lives on a rural farm in West Virginia with her husband and their two beautiful daughters. She writes phoenixes – gloriously flawed and morally gray characters that fiercely rise from the ashes of their circumstances.
Worldbuilding is one of her favorite pastimes. She thinks thunderstorms are better than coffee and that watching a meteor shower is the closest thing to magic you might ever see. She’s a firm believer that every amazing book needs a world you want to wrap yourself in, a character you want to win, and a love you would fight for.
Casey is the author of When Wishes Bleed, Gravebriar, House of Eclipses, and Where Oceans Burn.
For a short story this definitely packed a punch, and for an 80's child it sure did make me smile.
Tina has just arrived in Cali to attend USC when she is led astray by her roommate and ends up getting arrested at a concert. This is where, dressed up in her lace tights, short shorts and wild Madonna hair, she meets sexy mechanic Luke, who is thrown into her cell for Grand Theft Auto.
"He was a kinky one! Dirty mechanic. Hot brother. Kinky motherfucker. Who knew?"
This was a cute and fun read, and I adored swoony Luke and sassy Tina and I loved re-living my youth with the 80's setting. If you are looking for a short, entertaining and sweet read, then I urge you to consider this little gem.
If the author ever wants to expand on this story, I will be the first to read it!

The title of each love story will be a hit song from the year that the novella represents. The totally awesome authors confirmed include: Casey L. Bond, Cambria Hebert, Amber Lynn Natusch, Misty Provencher, Rebecca Yarros, Rachel Higginson, RK Ryals, Cameo Renae and Chelsea Fine.
This is a really fun novella! I love the idea that 10 different authors will be adding to the 80's mix for the next 10 months, each coming up with their own novella for which I assume, is named after popular 80's songs. I can't wait to read the next ones coming up- so far, I am loving this series of standalones... They are like, totally rad (twirls hair and giggles). Talk about nostalgic!
This book revolves around a girl named Tina who finds herself in a heap of trouble after going to a concert at her university. You see, when a fight breaks loose everyone is under arrest (including her) until the police can figure out who the masterminds were. Little did Tina know that by being arrested she would meet and swoon over her cell mate- a hot mechanic who is in a bit of trouble of his own...
Overall, this is a really fun read and I enjoyed it a lot! I love the descriptions of the 80's the author uses- the hair (teasing and aqua net) and the cloths (neon shirts. fishnets, etc.) This totally brought me back to the 80's and I LOVED IT! This book also incorporates some great romance that will leave readers swooning. If you enjoy a fun and fast read than I suggest picking this book up. I really liked and it and look forward to reading the others in the near future!
We all have our favorite era's if we think hard about it - if someone asked you, you would be able to pick one pretty quickly. For me, I have always been fascinated with the 80's. Though I was born in 87, I grew up more on the 90's side of things, but the 80's have always fascinated me. So when I saw that there would be a new series Love in the 80's, I knew I had to purchase the books. The first of course is set in 1980, and we meet Tina and Luke. Tina is starting her freshman year at USC and has landed a party animal as a roommate. One night they are invited to a party which leads to a fight happening and Tina being in the wrong place at the wrong time. She finds herself arrested and ends up spending a night in jail. Luke is a mechanic whose younger brother was also in the fight and Luke is called to bail him out. Currently Luke has no wheels except for the red Camaro currently in his shop, he believes the owner won't mind if he borrows it quickly. Turns out though that the car is hot and Luke too ends up being arrested. Over a night of bonding, earthquakes, and mistaken identities - Luke and Tina find themselves getting to know one another but never in their wildest dreams would think that this meeting would turn them into undercover bait for a police sting. Once everything is over, they go back to their normal lives, but is it that easy especially since Luke has developed feelings for Tina? How do you show that you love someone in the 1980s? A mixtape and music shirts that are how - with ACDC's hit song in the 1980's You Shook Me All Night Long. Fans of Romance and the 80's will love this quick read that sends us into blasts from the past.
I've enjoyed these Love in the 80s novellas, they all seem like they could be made into movies starring members of the Brat Pack- if the Brat Pack were 25+ years younger! It's kind of fun to relive my teen years through these books, and it makes me miss those simpler days of not having to work full time, pay bills, adult. Tina's new to CA, having moved down from OR for college. Getting caught up in the whole roommate and college experience, she ends up losing herself a little. After one crazy night when she meets fox Luke and gets into more trouble than she bargained for, she decides to rededicate herself to her classes, and most importantly to her self. But that doesn't sit well with Luke, who finds Tina quite intriguing, and not wanting things to end between them, he decides to make that one grand 80s gesture to win her affections. He's the hero of all your favorite 80s movies wrapped in one swoony package. Overall 1980: You Shook Me All Night Long is a sweet, fun, easy read.
But please, if you're writing a book set in the 80s, please make sure Pat Benatar's name is spelled correctly!
Don't have the couple in a novella not meet until 38%. A novella has to be super interesting outside the romance for that to ever remotely work. That wasn't the case here. Paint drying is more interesting than this book.
The heroine in this was a complete slut shaming asshole who needs to get the fuck over herself. Of course the "baddy" is a girl who wears short skirts and enjoys sex (I mean, God forbid a girl likes certain types of clothes and enjoys orgasms) We are reminded often about how these things make her a "slut" and that the heroine would never be like her. I mean the the heroine is allowed to have sex on the first date of course but that's different because she is a "geek" Got to love those double standards.
Also it's just fucking stupid to escape from jail when you've done nothing wrong. Like the whole premise of this book was dumb. As. Fuck.
3.5 Stars! This is my first read by Ms. Bond, and I’m reading it as a group read. I was almost immediately on board after just seeing the cover and title. I’m an 80’s child, and absolutely loved going back in time.
Summary: Tina is ready to embark on the beginning of a new life. As a freshman at USC, she’s bright-eyed and ready for the freedom she’s longed for, for years. She has a plan. Work hard and be successful. Change the world. Unfortunately for Tina, plans can be disrupted. When her roommate insists she attends a concert on campus, Tina sees nothing but a fun opportunity, but it will turn out to be a night that shakes up her whole world. Her big college plan never included arrests, handcuffs, interrogations, sexy brothers or earthquakes. But it all happens. Can Tina recover from the shakes and tremors of the night before or did impulsiveness and bad decisions ruin her life?
What a crazy ride! Lol. I really enjoyed this little novella, and I love the idea of having 10 different authors contributing to the 10 book series. Each book is set in a year from the 80’s with famous songs as titles. You Shook Me All Night Long was a good title for book one, as the MC’s, along with an earthquake, shook each other up. ;-) Tina really disappointed me at first for being a bit of a doormat. I wanted the girl to reflect her inner dialogue which was sassy and witty. She did turn it around for me pretty quickly, too. Luke was lush. He was sweet, sexy, and protective. I spent about 2 seconds confused as to how they were supposed to meet before all the pieces clicked into place for me. It was light and short, but sweet read. I’d really be interested in a full novel. Then we could dig a little deeper, get to know the characters more, and see more of the romance. My only criticism was some of the editing. Normally, I can overlook minor editing errors, but for some reason the ones in this book really irritated me, and disturbed the flow. That said, I’m curious to see what comes next in the series. ♡
This was really fun. Unfortunately it felt a bit rushed and kinda naïve at times, so I couldn't bring myself to give this more than three stars, even if I enjoyed this, but I'm definitely very, very interested in this "series".
This was really cute. I love anything 80's and I usually don't read mushy stuff but... 80's. I hope the rest of the stories in this collection are just as good. This one was so fun to read.
If you are looking for a quick, funny, easy read....1980: YOU SHOOK ME ALL NIGHT LONG is exactly what you are looking for. It is the first of ten contemporary romance books set in the 1980's written by award winning and bestselling authors. The novellas will be released one each month from January - October, 2016.
I have to admit that from the title of the book I really didn't know what to expect. I quickly was drawn in and read it without a break. Casey effortlessly takes you on a journey back to the 80's in Los Angeles, California. Polyester leisure suits, fishnet stockings, big hair, teased bangs, tons of hair spray, valley girls, cassette players, and AC/DC! You will feel like you are there walking down the streets watching the Firebirds, Mustangs and other muscle cars cruise by!
Tina Bartram is from Portland, Oregon and embarking on her freshman year at USC. She is a sweet girl that has lived a fairly sheltered life and was focused on her education and future. Her new roommate, Georgia, on the other hand, was not. She was attending college solely for the social aspect. The two roommates could not be more different.
Georgia scored some tickets for a concert on campus, set Tina up on a secret blind date, and "BANG" the trouble begins. Tina was very uncomfortable with the makeover Georgia insisted on giving her for the concert. She felt self-conscious and looked like a hooker. She was not prepared for what this night would bring.
The police arrived at the concert arresting several of the college students after Tina's ex-date became bored with the lack of Tina's attention and started a brawl. Lucky Tina was one of the arrested, and Georgia had slipped out and left Tina behind!
While Tina was waiting to be released, she met Luke Davis, a gorgeous hunk off a mechanic. He had arrived at the LAPD to bail out his younger brother, Joseph, who had also been mistakenly arrested for the campus disturbance. A misfortunate turn of events landed Luke in jail as well.
Add a Los Angeles tremor, a power outage at the LAPD, and Tina and Luke were on the run. They were on a mission to clear Luke's name. Quickly a romance starts to blossom and an interesting set of events follow.
Will Luke be able to convince Tina that they have a future? Will his plan to win her over be enough?
I came upon this book thanks to other author, Cambria Hebert. I'm subscribe to her newsletter and in it she said she was releasing a new book based in the 80's. She said the book was connected to a series called Love in the 80's. Her book is the third one, so I got in my mind I had to read the first two, even though they are not connected, I just needed to.
I read this book and it did not disappoint. I was not born in the 80s, but I kind of remember them like it was yesterday. So many movies I have seen, so many pictures of my mom in it. I feel I'm from there, so I totally love all the setting of this story and the ones to come. But this one in particular was so hilarious, sweet and hot. The story is short, direct to the point and leaves you wanting more.
Tina is hilarious, but focus. Luke is a worker, but a crazy boy. These two are mean for each other and they know it. But Tina has so much in her mind that doesn't want to let anyting more in. Luke is driven, so he'll fight for her even is against her own mind. The whole police thing was fucking hilarious! But sadly was something that happened much in the 70s and in the 80s.
If you want something short, sweet, hilarious and hot... you might need to read all these stories, because I will.
I love the 80's!!! I don't know how I missed the promos for this series, but as soon as I heard about it I one-clicked them (books 1 & 2) as fast as humanly possible. This was a fun, quick, read and totally captured the feel of the decade. I've never read anything by this author before but I'm thinking I'll have to check out her work!
I graduated from a small high school in 1982, so this story brought back a lot of fond memories for me. We weren’t really into the teased bangs, at that point, yet, though. We were still more into the ‘Farrah’ hair with feathered layers, but I was definitely starting to see them in the younger kids as I finished my senior year. The ‘Madonna’ look was also starting to infiltrate our school by then but on a way more modest scale. We were mostly still into the ‘preppy’ style by 1982; Oxford shirts, Lee jeans, and loafers but our hair dryers, curling irons, and Aqua Net were, for sure, getting a work out. I laughed several times as the heroine was preparing to go out, using her can of hairspray. God! That crap made it hard to breathe! LOL! A fun, quirky trip back to the 80’s with a cute heroine and a dreamy hero who got away with a lot more than he would’ve now.
Not going to leave a big review for this one because I don't have a lot of time, but I really enjoyed this short little story. I thought it was super cute and Tina's inner monologue had me highlighting numerous notes on my kindle app, especially her comments about Luke.
'"The Firebird. I had to drive it down here to get you. Apparently, it's hot." oooh! Hot Brother driving a stolen car. Bad boy mode in full effect.'
But generally, I adore 80's aesthetic, and so I loved all the drop in details about the clothing, and environment to strengthen that. Particularly the painted phone! haha!
I think I'll be picking up one of Casey's full length books after this.
This was a really good short story. It's like, totally rad! lol. I swear like the last third of the book I had a smile on my face the whole time. It is such sweet and a fun read. Luke is a swoon worthy guy! College girl meets hunky mechanic... And how they meet, its funny and realistic. For a short story it really packs a big punch. I may not have been old enough to remember the 80's but I sure do love them.
I loved everything about this book! I loved the flashback feeling. The music, the cars, the big hair, and of course, the lingo. This was a great quick love story. Hot and steamy, but not too much. Just right.
Eh, I mean the insta-lust and all that was a big blah for me. It had promise but I just felt this fell short of what it could have been, even for a short story. It was just okay...
As anyone who follows this blog will well know, I am a huge Casey L. Bond fan. Admittedly, I haven't read her entire backlog and just recently jumped on board the Bond Bandwagon, but even based on the few works I have devoured, I can say with confidence that she's one of the most talented writers I've worked with as of late. Her stories are full of gripping emotion and such vivid plots and settings that really leave a lasting impression on the mind of her readers.
But can she handle this massive blast from the past?
Heck yeah she did.
So I'll just go ahead and throw this out here first off, I had no idea the stories in this set were to be short stories/novellas. I was extremely disappointed to see we were getting less than 100 pages with these stories, but after finishing the first one, I was so impressed that the length really didn't matter too much. While I will say that I wish this had been a full-length novel, Bond did an incredible job telling her story in such a short amount of space!
Seeing as this story is so short, I'm going to keep the review that way as well.
The plot for this one was a whole lot of fun, regardless of the 1980 setting, I think this story could have taken place anywhere or any time. Tina is such an easy character to relate to (even if her thought process is a little skewed at times), and the side characters were written to perfection. The plot was real, nothing seemed out of place or forced giving the story a very natural flow and feel.
Now I'll admit that I was not alive in 1980 (in fact, my parents were barely teenagers at the time). That being said, however, I was raised in a household that was very much alive with the spirit of that memorable decade. The clothes, the culture, the music: it lingered well into my childhood and I loved it. Casey and this story were able to fully capture that feeling for me and know others who lived during the period will love the blast from the past.
This awesome novella was short, but it packed a big punch in terms of action and feels. With great fun, Casey L. Bond kicks off the 1980s in the best of ways, 1980: You Shook Me All Night Long is a must-read for anyone who longs for the age of leg warmers, big hair, and music enough to rock your socks off!
It should come as no surprise that I am granting to fun read from Casey L. Bond a well-deserved 5-star review. Don't miss your chance to pick up this read today. I know this guy cannot wait for more from this series!
I’ll come out and say that I will read anything by Casey Bond, so when I heard that 1980: You Shook Me All Night Long was coming out, I jumped at the chance to read it too. The title is clever, harking back to a song from that era, I was curious to see two things: 1. How well the title would fit the story, and 2. If the song would make an appearance.
This book had all the right touches for that decade, integrated seamlessly, down to the hairspray clouds and teased hair. It was easy to picture and created a solid backdrop for the plot to take part.
Tina, a freshman in college, is a likable character who easily fell into the trap that so many of us do in that pivotal first year of freedom. She got caught up in a whirlwind and almost lost herself in the process. This made her extremely realistic, because I think we’ve all been there in life, if not in college but in getting wrapped up in something or someone. That someone set her on the path to meet Luke, a smexy newcomer to the area who just wants to do right by his family by taking care of his brother and running his auto mechanic business. I thought Luke was awesome, definite heart-of-gold material. An interesting twist of fate in the plot had him in the right spot to meet Tina, and together, these strangers had to overcome quite the night.
At nearly 100 pages, 1980: You Shook Me All Night Long is a fun, quick read. The setting was realistic, the plot had a great mix of snark, simmer, and intrigue, and the characters were completely believable. I was invested enough in the story to have followed Tina and Luke for a full novel. I think they would get into a lot of enjoyable trouble if their antics in this book are any indication.
And for those things I was curious about? You’ll just have to read the book to find out for yourself. You won’t be disappointed.
**Thank you to Casey Bond for providing me with a free e-copy in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.**
You Shook Me All Night Long is the first book in the Love In The 80's collection and I really enjoyed it! It is super quick read but it's really funny and sweet. I really loved how Luke and Tina met! It was something unexpected. Then all of their little misadventures was just the icing on the cake. Several laugh out loud moments. The story was fast paced and kept me interested through out. I could see Luke and Tina getting another book because those two could get into a lot of trouble! I am really looking forward to the next book in the collection!
AMY C'S REVIEW 4 STARS
Hairspray clouds, mini skirts, and LA in the 80s. This book was a cute little read that has me feeling like we turning back the hands of time and rocking out to heavy metal! Where style was totally tubular, Tina and Luke were on one adventure even they had no idea how they would get out of.
So there's USC, a party gone wrong and a police station....sounds like the making for a bad joke right? Meeting Tina wasn't ideal for Luke. He wasn't looking to find her in lock up, but what he got was sassy companion that would help him try clear his name and keep his nose clean. Together they would realize that being forced together really wasn't so bad and maybe sparks could fly even under the weirdest situations.
She's from Portland, on scholarship and in LA to study. Trying to let her hair down a little, Tina lets her roommate dress her up for a totally bitch'n party only to have thing go terribly wrong and her falsely arrested. As if she's a criminal, totally not cool to be locked up, Tina meets Luke while locked up and their night gets totally gnarly together!
This book was a fun and easy read. I was a little thrown by the title thinking maybe it would be a totally metal head book, buying was pleasantly surprised by the content. It was an easy read and well done. The story line was easy to follow and well done.
"So? Car Thief?" "Brawler or hooker?" "Neither." "Whatever you say." "Whatever you say."
One night.
That's all it took to turn Tina and Luke's worlds upside down.
Tina was a freshman in college and studies were her main focus...until her roommate invited her to a concert on campus. Little did she know, that one concert would lead her to a night in the slammer.
Luke was a local mechanic who was in LA to help see after his college freshman brother. He had no clue that his said brother, and a sweet Firebird, would land him behind bars. Not mention right next to a beauitful, blonde bombshell.
One night.
"Trust me?" "Let's go."
This was such a fun story!!
I immediately loved Tina and Luke! They were both focused people that were caught in the wrong place at the wrong time. Just when you think things couldn't get worse for them, you were wrong.
But when everything seemed to be going downhill, their attraction was skyrocketing up!
"Tell me this is okay." "It's more than okay."
I love the twists and turns of this short story, and the nostalgic feel. I felt myself being transported back in time. The descriptions of the clothing, cars, and even the music, were on point!
I really enjoyed every single part of this book!! I'm so excited for the rest of this 80's series of books!
Tina and Luke are wonderful characters! I found myself smiling so much while reading!
Great job, Casey!
"You're something else, Tina." "Because I let you pass to second base?" "No...I like you." "You don't know me." "Let's fix that." "Okay."

CONTAINS SOME SPOILERS
I dont like novellas. To me there isn't enough depth or story line. The characters arent as deeply developed as in a regular novel. The same was true with this story. I enjoyed the story otherwise, but was left with wanting more.
Tina is fresh out of high school and headed to college. She becomes instant friends with the girl she shares her dorm room with. She allows Georgia to influence her decisions all the way down to her hair and her clothes. Georgia talks Tina into going to a concert on campus. That concert is where everything changed for Tina. What happened?
I have read other books by Casey Bond. She is a good writer. I will read more by her, but am not sure that I will recommend this book. There could have been so much more to this novella.
I was born in the mid 80's, but I grew up loving 80's nostalgia and watching several 80's teen movies on cable. At first I was hesitant to read this because I'm not a fan of first person POV and some of the anachronisms made me roll my eyes (The story takes place in 1980 and a girl mentions "looking like Madonna", who didn't become famous until a few years later.).
However, I was pleasantly surprised. About a few chapters in, I felt like I was watching one of those movies on cable again. The chemistry between the two leads is adorable and the ending (which I won't spoil) was straight out of a Hollywood movie. I also love how the song title ties in with the plot.
