I'd like one book to exist where no one has sex with vampires, no one had weird eyes, no one has weird names, whether someone is pretty or ugly isn't mentioned within the first five words. That would be great thanks.

Still love it. It's awesome. Jaymin Eve and Leia Stone are a perfect team, giving us a fantastic journey to go on. I love that in this book, they give us something more than what other author gives us, which is Jaymin's signature and that is that she gives us not only a female who is unique and special but she also gives us a male that is special too. Ryder is all kinds of mystery and I love that he isn't just a guy who protect the female, or is a helper to the female, he is almost the book! I LOVE THAT! I hope that doesn't change...

The ash were pretty much physical perfection. That's of course if you ignored the fact that they were part bloodsucker.

This was awesome. I loved it. It reminded me a lot of Jaymin Eve's Supernatural Prison series, which I loved as well. Jaymin Eve is fast becoming one of my favorite authors. I know I'll be re-reading this one in the future, it'll probably be soon too.

Sure, I had boobs, but that only increased my power.

The characters was awesome. Charlie Bennet was a kickass woman with snarky, sassy comments. A loyalty that everyone should envy, (if you don't, then you are not right in the head) and strong. What I loved about her was that she was stubborn and she didn't had the need to prove herself, she didn't become one of those whiny, annoying and reckless heroines that many books have. I would definitely want Charlie as a bestfriend, to have her loyalty and love...would be amazing!

I found my eyes drawn again to Ryder. I was like a fucking bee with a flower, needing to suck out whatever sweetness I knew was inside.

Now the main hero. Man, I must say, I was in love with him before I even met him, simply because of his perfect name, Ryder. If you know me, then you know I have a thing for all things Ryder's. (Specially Ryder De Danann from The Fae Chronicles by Amelia Hutchins. No one beats him though. He's my #1 Ryder!) And when I met Ryder? BOM! I fell in love straight away. I mean, who wouldn't love a drop dead gorgeous, dangerous, lethal, AMAZING, sexy alpha male? I can go on and on about him, but then I'll never stop with this review.

"Ain't no one stealing our unicorn on our watch." I wanted to punch and hug him at the same time. Our unicorn. They were so arrogant. But they were my family now, and I kind of like that they claimed me as theirs.

The side characters were awesome! I loved Ryder's best friend Kyle and Charlie's best friend Jayden. Hell, I loved all side characters. The Sexy Six? AMAZING! Lucas? Awesome. Even Tessa (was that her name?) even though she annoyed me at some point. I mean, I get that she wants to be a vampire and be in Charlie's world, but to change yourself just so you can fit in? That's weak. I'm just sayin'.

I needed to process this shit and get over it, because if the rumors were true, I would soon be fighting for my life.

The story was great. I loved Charlie way of handling things, I loved Ryder's...well, everything. The Culling was awesome to read about, though very sad, but still awesome. This book was full of action, friendship, love, family, death.. everything. It was simply awesome. I loved this book and I cannot wait for next book! I seriously hope it will arrive fast. Like really fast, because I want more. More Ryder, more Charlie, more ass kicking, just more.

If you wanted to live, you had to earn that right.

I'm not sure what to think. On one hand I like the story because it was like a new adult combination of Divergent, Hunger Games, and Vampire Academy. On the other hand, I got a bit annoyed with the MC and at times even the writing. Maybe it was just the MC's inner monologue that annoyed me, either way it got to me. She always referred to her 2 friends as BFFs of bestie. Then she would always describe Ryder as sexy and a hottie. I don't know why but to me it just seemed juvenile. I lacked the connection to the MC; for some reasons she just irked me. She whines and complains but at least she flat out says that she was whiney and bitchy. She just seemed really needy, in my opinion.She tries to fight, shatters her ankle, and they look at her like she just knocked the guy on his ass and she's a miracle to the world. It doesn’t make any sense. There might be a sight case of Special Snowflake Syndrome in this book.

Pretty good start to a series.

Charlie finds out she's an ash - vamp/human hybrid. Surprise. And she's the only female one in existence. Double surprise. She gets to move into the Hive, the place where all the ashes and vamps live and work. How not fun. Bright side is the hot guy, Ryder.

The book seemed very NA, but luckily not YA. I think I would've enjoyed it more if Charlie was more grown up. I'll probably read book 2.

I really liked this story set in a dystopian society where there are vampires, and there are ash (babies from vampire males mating with human females). But all the ash are male, until Charlie becomes one. I love her romance with Ryder, and her BFF in the hive Jayden and his lover Oliver. Great story and characters. Looking forward to continuing with this series.

This was just the Vampire book I needed! I wouldn't say it's a solid five star read, but it definitely had it's perks and fun plot arcs. ASH ended on a cliffhanger, but it wasn't a too bad one, but nevertheless, it has me eager to know what's next in their thrilling adventure! Oh, and we have PLENTY of SEXY Alpha males that I'm DYING to sink my teeth into!

And that’s already too much of this crap.

So far, it’s been a horrible mashup made of The Hunger Games/Divergent,
the Chicagoland Vampires series and Twilight.
While I loved THG, I wouldn’t want to read plagiarizations or fanfiction about it.
And I definitely wouldn’t want to read those things about the other books (the originals were bad enough).

Right from the very first pages the clues are laid on so very delicately:
— oh, I’m always thirsty!
— oh, my skin is suddenly so luminous!
— oh, my hair lately is so shiny!
— oh, I can run a mile a minute!
I WONDER WHY IS THAT, UH!?

An then: the MC is intolerable.

He did a flamboyant hand gesture for added measure and I cracked a smile. I had impeccable gaydar, which was definitely not required with Jayden.

In other words, you like to make assumptions about other people’s sexual orientations based on looks. How very NIIIIICE of you.
NOT.

In this meager 22% there were already so many stereotypes and silly tropes I wanted to smash something.
— OF COURSE all vampires and vampire hybrids are gorgeous
— OF COURSE they are all male, so the MC won’t have competition and will be a special snowflake
— OF COURSE all the other females around are stupid/gullible/slutty/unpleasant and generally not-as-special as the MC

“Can I tell you something?” He was practically salivating.
Fear knotted my belly. I could only nod, my high ponytail bobbing up and down.
He paused. “There’s something about you. Your blood, your smell, it’s … irresistible.”

Oh, kill me with a spoon.
Seriously? SERIOUSLY!?

I’m outta here, people.
I don’t know why I thought this could be at least decent.

Yes, tons of fantastic fight scenes.

Yes. The romance was not necessarily a favorite part of this series.

The plot was believable, fast paced, & well thought out. It included some surprising twists.

Over all thoughts:
As i said prior no glaring editing or grammatical errors. The story's pacing was quick & the overall story arc was interesting to me. The interactions/attractions between Charlie & Ryan didn't come across as sexy (with the exception of a kiss scene) or natural to me. Charlie seemed unable to walk away from Ryan & this behavior was super annoying to me. I suspect the author will explain the immediate strong attraction in more detail as the series progresses. Charlie isn't the typical UF h. She's not a violent, leather wearing, ass kicking, gun totting bad ass. She's a typical university student who due to some violence (i will not get into) is familiar with some basic self-defense & basic gun knowledge. She has potential to become a badass, she taps into some of this during the story. As the series continues I believe her weapons & self-defense knowledge will grow. I also suspect her aversion is violence will subside. Tess was annoying to me & I'm hoping if her role in the series continues we get more history for her. Otherwise her character will continue to come across as immature & shallow.
I was thoroughly entertained & will be following this series. The book was exactly what I was in the mood for.

What I liked:

This story was well thought out. There was enough detail to make the world come to life without overwhelming you with unnecessary facts. The story flowed smoothly and the development of secondary characters was in one with the book size.

What I didn't like:

The main character seemed unable to think or act without warning man. And despite coming across as self sufficient and slightly bandaids in the first chapter, she becomes the typical damsel in distress. The book is riddled with scenes of her being rescued by her love interest. Couple this with her whining and tween level romance and it's disappointing. I spent most of the book hoping she'd shut up about him already or smack herself into adulthood. Or both. Anyway, it was over the top and when they had their first kiss I was actually disappointed because I still felt like she was a middle schooler with a crush. That's not romance, it's embarrassing in an adult woman.

This won't stop me from reading the next one however. I will just hope for some emotional maturity in the main character. The rest of the book, from writing to plot line, was very good. Good enough that I look forward to what else this author might write.

I think having groups of 4-6 hot male specimens surrounding the heroine at all times is what Jaymin Eve believes to be the key to a successful series -- a bit annoying, but the rest of the book made up for it (Supernatural Prison & Hive).

You're a black, gay boy... You're the underdog

That was a line in the book. No kidding. Couple that with the excessive stereotypical flamboyance and constant uttering of derogation words and this book failed. It was obvious the authors were white from their descriptions of the only black character in the book. The only reason I kept going is because I'm a sucker for supernatural things and I wanted to see how bad it would get. At first it was only a little annoying with all the typical YA stereotypes (hot girl with hotter blond best friend) but then it got too hard to ignore.

Every. Single. Male. was 'gorgeous' and 'beautiful'. Seriously, I almost want to run a search to see how much those words were used in the novel. The word ash being repeatedly used was also annoying. Even more annoying than the fact that the 'special' female protagonist was supposedly strong and yet all she did was be stubborn and get beat up by other guys. The writing was also tedious - I found myself skipping over often.

I hate to be this harsh, but the narrative just sounded like a white bratty 13 year old full of privilege and hero-worship. Which sucks, because I genuinely liked the concept.

This is the first vampire book I've read in a while. It seemed at one point they all started to feel too similar. I'm actually glad I have this one a shot. It pretty much reminded me of a vampire society version of Hunger Games, if that makes any sense. While I found the storyline and characters a bit cliché and predictable, I still think this series has potential. I wish this story (and characters) had more depth in this read, but perhaps that is to come in future books in this series. I do appreciate this being offered as a kindleunlimited. The authors' website mentioned that Book 2 was expected within 3-6 months - this isn’t a book release I will eagerly be anticipating, but I'm likely to check it out and see how this story plays out.

These characters are easily old enough to not be in a na novel yet there wasn't anything more than a few kisses. I either need steam or the characters to be in the right age range for ya.

That aside, the story had moments I did enjoy and overall a pretty decent read.

Ash is an interesting book to read but I had some issues with it. The concept of ASH might sound unique but it doesn’t bring anything new because overall it was a typical vampire novel and some aspects of this books is similar to other vampire YA books. Being an avid reader of vampire fiction, I always keep a watchout for good vampire books that promises kickass action and romance. The badass cover of ASH is the first thing that caught my eye and the synopsis has intrigued me enough to read it. Sadly, this book didn’t lived up to my expectations but I think it’s pretty ok read and some readers might love it but it was too cliched for me to love it.

Charlie Bennet lives in a world where supernatural creatures like Vampires and Ash exists. Ash are the offspring of human women and male vampires who looks enchantingly beautiful. All the female population adore the beauty of Ash male but Charlie just thinks they are freaks of nature and totally resents them. Charlie doesn’t want anything to do them but suddenly she observes some changes in her body that looks similar to ASH symptoms and it turns out that she is actually an ASH, the very creature she hates but there’s never been a female ASH before. Being an ASH changes everything in her life because now she has to leave her college, her best friend and also her mother. All the Ash must live in a place called HIVE and being the first female ASH doesn’t give her special privileges because like all the new ASH she needs to earn her place in the HIVE by surviving in the fight to death matches called Culling. Even though she hates the ASH, she can’t help getting attracted to a tall, dark and handsome ASH named Ryder, an Ash lead enforcer who takes special interest in her and helps training her for the culling. Her life gets even more crazier when her blood test reveals many secrets that questions her identity, her best friend wants to be a vampire, and it seems there’s a bounty placed on her head.

Charlie is a tough badass girl who’s got a lots of spunk, wit and sassiness in her. I really liked her character but sometimes she acted a bit immature like a silly teenager who’s got a crush which really irked me a lot. Ryder is your typical male bad boy like Dimitri who looks gorgeous, physically strong and a total alpha male. There isn’t a insta-love but there’s definitely a insta-attraction between Ryder and Charlie when they first met. The relationship between them is kinda hot and cold which is something to do with Ryder’s dark past. Lucas is another possible love interest who is also a vampire but we didn’t get to know much about him because he doesn’t play major role in this book and he only appears in few parts of the book. I really liked Jayden, Charlie’s roommate in HIVE and also best gay boyfriend. He is my favorite character who is very friendly and I really loved his sense of humor.

The plot may not be original but it was good enough with some twists that can be easily predicted if you’re used to vampire books. All the characters are likable but they aren’t great either. The story is moved in fast pace filled with action, suspense and light romance. The whole book was written in Charlie’s POV. The writing was somewhat ok and simple enough to understand. This book was set in a modern world so it’s got both contemporary and paranormal feel to it. Despite having so many issues with this book, I enjoyed reading it.

Overall, I think it’s a good start for a new series! I hope the sequel going to be much better and thrilling. Even though it was tagged as New-Adult, I think this book is also suitable for Young Adult Readers.

Do I recommend it? Yes, I would recommend it to the readers who love reading vampire fiction and paranormal romance.

THIS IS NOT YA!!

For some reason I thought this might be YA which put me off of it a bit. It's actually NA. Anyways the book is pretty good. Charlie is living life as a college student, vampire and ash - humans who turn into a hybrid of vampire and human who were born this way, have been known for a while in history. However there are rules and stipulations that allow them to interact with the human population.

Charlie hates vampire and ash due to some event that happened in her past. However she's started to notice changes in herself but she can't bring herself to believe she could be an ash because all ash are male.

Eventually though Charlie does in fact change into an ash and a whole host of a new life changes her. First she must survive the culling, an event where the vampires pit the ash against each other to the death for basically spots in the Hive. I guess, from what Charlie understands is that there are only a certain number of ash allowed to live since vampires mating with humans is technically illegal. But of course no one culls the vampires. Anyways Charlie even though she's the "unicorn" female ash will be required to participate. I felt that this was kind of a let down, firstly because she had so many of the males protecting her and making sure that she could fight the least. The build up of this was ok, but didn't really do anything for me in terms of story, except to show that ash are lower class citizens.

We don't have much interaction with vampires, we are told that ash are assigned to a house number based on their lineage, which is cool but stops there, we never meet the vampire in control of Charlie's house. The only vampire we really interact with is Lucas.

The whole story is good, but I do feel like Charlie can fall into that Mary Sue category sometimes. She continues to say she's not a damsel in distress, but continues having others rescue her, or helping her succeed. I don't fault her for that to a degree since she is in a new world, but she isn't exactly as badass as she thinks she is.

The story revolves around Charlie being the first ever female ash, and how her test results on her lineage and other aspects of how she is an ash are slowly uncovered. She's the coveted unicorn but also more, and then the book ends.

Like I said it isn't bad, but there's still more to learn. We don't really learn Hive society hierarchy because Charlie doesn't know herself.

Okay, so, I last dove into Ash back in 2017. Yikes. Then I ended up ghosting the shit out of this trilogy. Years later I finally convinced myself to dive back into this just so I can finish the series. This year. Maybe.

Now there's no surprise that I basically forgot everything that happened in the first book. Seriously, none whatsoever. It was bound to happen since it has been like - what - 4ish year? Eh, details.

In it, you will meet Charlie. She is the first female ash which is a very big deal. Yet, that's not what she really is. She is definitely a huge mystery and lots of people are paying big money to get ahold of her. Luckily, she has a little found ash family that is going to do everything in their power to save and protect her.

As of right now, I really enjoyed her and Ryder together. Even though I've only gotten small little specs of romance. I definitely want way more than that and I'm very hopeful that I will throughout the next two books. Since I never read them, I have no idea if that will actually happen or not.

I'm also not a fan of Tessa, her best friend, becoming a feeder but if the guy she is hanging out with truly cares for her then I can only hope for the best. Also, there's Jayden - who I absolutely love! I seriously want so much more for them all and I'm very excited to dive into the sequel.

In the end, I guess I'm diving into the next one head first. Bring it on!

This book was just ok.
It started off pretty good. I liked the concept of the Ash and I liked Charlie in the beginning but, it just seemed to go down hill after the culling. It became predictable and Charlie seemed to become less mature instead of more. And don't get me started on the obsession that was Ryder. I really thought that when it wasn't a typical insta love that this might be a gradual relationship. It turned out the be an insta obsession and we spent about 75% of the book reading about how she didn't think he wanted her and he had a wall built up and wouldn't let her get close and she was going to forget about him... only to obsess about how hot he was in the next paragraph. Not to mention that when they finally got their first kiss (76% into the book) it was after he had been gone all day paying his respects at his fiancée's grave. The same fiancée that he killed when he turned. Talk about classy.
*sigh* I don't know if I'll continue with this series or not.

I've tried, once again, to read a vampire book. And once again, it fell flat. Usually I would say that this is a case of "it's not you, it's me" but honestly, this book was terrible.

It follows a remarkably predictable path where the heroine is put in a position where she has to fight big burly men with the threat of death looming over her while being trained by a sexy amazing coach who has her ready to fight in just a little time. She falls in love with said trainer. Trainer wants to push her away but is amazed by her skills and loves her anyways.

Can we retire this plot line? I've read it way too many times and I'm over it.

A great paranormal escape! It has just the right blend of action, romance and intrigue. Yeah, yeah…. The plot isn’t terribly unique and different and the main character of Ash is the cliched “special one”, BUT the story is still written in a way that makes it feel fresh and doesn’t fall into the predictable. So, if one doesn’t mind taking a common trope and just enjoying the heck out of it, this one is exactly what the Dr. orders!

*Not sure if it is meant to be but Ash is in her early 20s, and the book reads very much like a YA/NA.*

I'm not sure how this book flew under my radar last year because it was right up my alley. A cute paranormal romance with a sinfully sexy and stoic hero, ass-kicking (after some training) heroine and a slew of wonderful characters who I'm dying to get to know more.

The plot
The Hive Trilogy takes place in a world where vampirism is known but not entirely accepted. There are two non-human breeds - vampires and ash, who are half-human, half-vampire. The vampires and ash, though far stronger than any human, only live at the indulgence of humans and are relegated to Hives scattered throughout the world. The communities are hierarchical, with the purest vampires at the top and the ash at the bottom. The Hives are becoming crowded however, and with ash numbers growing, the Hives host a culling wherein ash must fight to the death in order to earn a place in the Hive.

Charlie hates all ash, having been attacked by them recently, and by all rights she shouldn't have to go anywhere near the Hive. Except for the fact that she is showing the symptoms of an ash, making her a biological impossibility and anomaly as there are no female ash.

The characters
Charlie was a great heroine. She is a young college kid and so I expected her to be immature, annoying, illogical and full of temper tantrums and bad decisions. She had her moments where I couldn't help but roll my eyes but overall she was pretty mature and.. dare I say, smart. Plus her will to survive and protect those around her won me over fairly quickly.

Ryder is what every fan of the pnr genre wants in a hero. He's broody and protective and aloof and has no idea what he wants. He's not my favourite of all pnr heroes but he definitely makes the cut.

I loved Jayden for comic relief even in the face of probable death. And I loved all of the sexy six. Can't wait to get into the next one!

f you like YA dystopia, this is the trilogy for you. Ash are half human/half vampire beings. Ash are controlled by the human group and by the vampire group in order to promote peace in the world. Because Ash became so prolific, it is against the law for humans and vampires to “get together.’

It is difficult to find Ash until about 17 to 18 when the Ash characteristic appear. Because of the human/vampire treaty, Ash are confined to hives, a limited amount of buildings build underground and a limited amount of Ash. Therefore, Ash of age must compete for a small number of bed space and it is to the death.

Back to the main character, Charlie (Charlotte). She is an enigma because all Ash are male. Vampire and human pregnancies have always resulted in male Ash — until Charlie. Once she is tracked and tackled by Ash enforcers, Charlie is attracted to Ryder, an Ash enforcer.

Much of Book 1 involves very interesting world building with pre-Ash Charlie being racist against the Ash. Her relationship with her mother and friend disappears as new relationships with other Ash develop. One sees life as a human versus life in the Ash hive.

Of course, there is action as there are those who want to capture Charlie alive once they’re aware she is the only female Ash. One by one closely held secrets of the Ash are revealed. The growing discontent of Charlie will lead to Charlie wanting the world to change for the better.

I’ve read a few dystopian novels, but dystopia novels are not a favorite go-to. I did enjoy this one and wonder how will Charlie and Ryder beat the odds against the human and vampire pact.

This book was an ok read. Not too bad, but not too good either. So, 3 stars, nothing more, nothing less.

This is the first part of the urban fantasy series "Hive Trilogy". In this world, the humans, ash(hybrid vampires) and pure vampires live in the same world, but the ash and vampires are secluded in a place called 'Hive', so that the humans are protected.Charlie Bennet is a regular girl, who attends college, has a bff Tessa, and a sweet mother. Until she realizes that she is an Ash: a hybrid vampire. A very unique one on top of that, the only female ash amongst all male ones. Then begins the usual storyline, where everyone is after her blood(literally) and a knight in shining armor, Ryder, another ash, who has his own secrets, saves her.

This is a very quick, light and easy read.(I finished in a day).Also,this is a story we already know, albeit a slight change. Though she is supposed to a strong heroine, she is not shown doing much action here. (Maybe saved for later.) This is a NA novel with teenage romance. Nevertheless, Charlie provides a few laughs here and there in this one. In addition, there is a mild cliffhanger.

There are some books with immediately make you jump to the sequel. Unfortunately, it did not happen for me here. I will read the next book, but not anytime soon.
