Unchained is book #8,5 in Elisabeth Naughton's fantastic Eternal Guardians Series that combines ancient Greek mythology and the present day..
This novella focuses on Prometheus
Circe
There's action, romance, intrigue and two characters that are very engaging and likeable.
I would have liked a bit more about these two characters. I felt the story ended quickly before I had time to get to them better.
This was a nice addition to the series.

This poor guy!!! Escaping and living under the radar, after being tortured for thousands of years by that wicked old god, Zeus, Prometheus is now being tortured by dreams of a beautiful woman begging him to find her.
Circe
Another victim of Zeus...she's been held captive for a very long time and is determined to do anything to get her freedom back.
There's action, romance, intrigue and two characters that are very engaging and likeable.

Unchained

Series note: This novella is #8.5 and relies on the previous installments for backstory. As such, it cannot be read out of order.
As is to be expected from a novella, there is not much plot to speak of and much of the story revolves around Prometheus and Circe lusting after each other.
One of the problems with writing about immortal characters is the fact that death is never a real possibility. Moreover, the descriptions of pain and torture do little to heighten the tension and suspense and do not enhance either the plot or character development. In fact, excessive descriptions of pain and suffering only serve to desensitize the reader.
In terms of the ongoing story arc, there is some development as Prometheus finally takes sides in the Argonauts' battle against the gods, and decides to help in the search for the final water element to complete the Orb of Kronos. It will be interesting to see what happens.

Prometheus suffered so much in the past, had endured pain and extreme bites while being chained at Zeus' hands. Now, he stayed from afar and looked over his daughter and vowed never to get mixed up again with humans, because that's what had led him to torture in the first place. Until he heard a voice that seemed to talk to him, enchant him, entice him. The voice soon became an apparition, and then became real. A human. A witch.
Circe was still suffering under Zeus reign. He wanted her to find the water orb so he could complete the elements that would make him powerful. The only thing Circe could do to get it was to seduce the Titan who knew the orb's location.. And she had every intention to get close to him so she could get away from the Olympian ruler.
Once again, I found myself hating Zeus more after reading Unchained. I felt bad for Circe and Prometheus, after everything they had endured from this god. I love the story of the punished Titan breaking his resolve and the witch-human that had eclipsed his heart. Their story was full of conflicts and raging with sexual tension, leaving the reader gasping for breath, demanding to be unchained and enslaved by the Titan himself. If you had been reading the whole series from the beginning, you'll see the Naughton trademark in this novella - smoldering, heart-stopping, mind-blowing characters. Careful with the torrid scenes though, because this is not for the faint of heart.

I was provided a copy of Unchained for a blog tour in exchange for an honest review. This is one of those times I am kicking myself asking “Self, why haven’t you finished this series yet?” Haven read book one, Marked and LOVED it, I am not sure why I haven’t read the rest of the series up to this book. I have no excuse, other than there are just too many books and not enough me.
In Unchained there is enough backstory given that it reads OK as a standalone; however, I am such a freak and like to read everything in order to get all those details. Also, Titan and Argonaut are the two words that plagued me during the story. I read Marked about a year ago, and there have been so many books in-between, I just felt like I wanted and needed a refresher; other than the first book and a few movies, I’ve got nothing when it comes to Greek Mythology.
In Unchained, a titan, Prometheus, has been wandering his castle alone for 25 years after the Argonauts freed him from his daily torcher at the hands of Zeus. He starts hearing the voice of a woman and thinks he is going mad.
Circe, a witch and a prisoner of Zeus, is pleading with Prometheus for help via visions and dreams to rescue her; yet not all is as it seems. Is she leading Prometheus into a trap, or does she truly have feeling for him? Prometheus has isolated himself for so long and she has finally awakened a part of him he long thought dead, (not that part, jezz). Will Prometheus risk chains again for a woman who could potentially be an enemy?
Overall, the story was entertaining and loaded with passion, danger, betrayal and action. It also left me with a huge need to go back and finish the series....Sara

Eh, it was okay.
Unchained was a boring novella for me. I wanted to like it but maybe the whole eternal guardians series just isn't for me. In this, you will meet Prometheus and Circe. It was okay but not my favorite. The romance was there and I was glad that they were happy and all BUT I was mostly glad that it was over with.

Because I’m unfamiliar with Elisabeth Naughton’s Eternal Guardian series, I feel like I missed the build-up and world setting of Unchained. Unchained is a short novella that actually occurs in two different settings, but because of the other worldly powers that Prometheus and Circe have as a Titan and sorceress, the way that the hero and heroine connect makes sense.
Even though I have very little knowledge of Naughton’s series, I’m very familiar with Greek Mythology, so Prometheus and Circe are not new characters, and the fact that Zeus is both characters’ enemy is easy to believe with Zeus being the god of all gods and his determination to control everyone, everywhere, and while Circe’s objective when it comes to wielding magical spells on Prometheus is a bit underhanded, in the end, Zeus’ ‘chains that bind these two characters serve as a way to potentially beat Zeus at his own game.
I’m a big fan of modern-day interpretations of mythological characters and events, and I enjoyed Unchained’s spin on two well-known other worldly beings, but I do feel like there was too much plot line to handle for a story of its size, which made it difficult to truly understand the characters’ feelings for one another and the full reason for Zeus’ punishments and what having the four elements will allow him to do.

Quick & Dirty: Greek mythological love story of two lost souls who bond over their shared experiences.

The Review:
Unchained is a novella set in the Eternal Guardians series that features Prometheus and Circe. Their love story is a little more different from the typical love story. They do have a love at first sight love since they aren’t even in the same “realm” as the other Circe often appears like a ghost to Prometheus but this story is more about how their similar situations bond them together.
As a novella, Unchained is a short story and the events unfold fast. There isn’t much filler. Unfortunately for me I haven’t read anything in this series yet, but I really want too. I love Greek Mythology and I really love to see what authors do with these fascinating stories. I was a little lost in the beginning about the setting but when I pieced it together I really want to read more. I imagine this wouldn’t be an issue with someone familiar to the series and since this is book 8.5 the author shouldn’t really be forced into explaining the setting over and over again.
Prometheus has been unchained for a little while now. He really hasn’t done much since his freedom but watch his daughter and see her for the fine woman she now is. It isn’t until he starts seeing a ghost woman that he really begins to feel the stirrings of emotion. He isn’t even sure if she is real or not at first because she is very cryptic with her messages but he won’t stop until he saves the beautiful woman from whatever it is that she needs saved from.
Circe never expected to actually feel a connection with Prometheus. He was just another means to an end with Zeus. She just needed to get something from him that Zeus wanted but after she felt the spark she knew she could never do it. There was something about Prometheus and the situation that he was in that speaks to Circe. It isn’t until she is in her own private torment that she finally makes a decision on how to fulfil her life.
At the beginning of the story, Prometheus doesn’t seem very motivated but when Circe tasks him with finding her that he is finally tempted to do something. He is just trying to get used to having a life after being chained up for all those years. Circe on the other hand is a strong willed woman. She knows what she wants even if she is forced to stay locked inside a mountain for two thousand years because it holds the power she craves. But after all those years and after feeling that spark with Prometheus she finally decides there is more to life than power. Circe realizes that she isn’t exactly the best person and should sacrifice herself so that Prometheus doesn’t find himself in the same situation he was in for years.
I didn’t really feel the spark for Prometheus or Circe but that may have been because I was still trying to grasp the whole realm thing and how they weren’t really together. I imagine someone who knows the story more may actually feel the connection where I missed it. Otherwise, I still really enjoyed the feel of the story. As a standalone, it works but I think it would be better if you knew the full context of the world a bit better. The cast of characters isn’t really very large so you don’t have to know much background which is explained. I look forward to checking out the rest of this series.

Her cell door clanged open. She closed her eyes and held absolutely still, knowing there was no use in fighting. Remembering when she’d struggled yesterday and the blinding pain that had followed.
Before she had time to conjure a protection spell, he snarled and lunged. His big body slammed into hers, knocking her head against the hard stones. Pain ricocheted across the back of her skull. Even though she told herself not to, she tensed and cried out. His fangs sank deep into her throat, ripping through her flesh.
She somehow forced herself to relax so he wouldn’t tear her to pieces. As the shade feasted on her blood, tears streamed down her cheeks. Tears of horror. Tears of agony. Tears of blinding, bitter madness.
This was her fate. To be punished day after day after miserably long day.
Just, she remembered as her vision darkened, as Prometheus had been punished so long ago.

Oh my, Elisabeth Naughton once again transported me to the realm of the gods and I didn't want to leave. The manner in which she takes the classical characters of myth and creates new tales for them never ceases to amaze me. Prometheus has been released from his torture at the hands of Zeus, but now he finds himself drawn to the mysterious Keia. Unfortunately, she is a prisoner and only by helping free Keia from his old nemesis will Prometheus finally find himself a part of the world that he has previously only observed.

Prometheus has been roaming the halls of his castle for the past 25 years. After making many costly mistakes, and angering the powerful god Zeus, Prometheus chose solitude. However, when he starts hearing voices, he wonders if he hasn’t been alone too long. The female voice keeps saying she’s waiting for him. He then glimpses a form, and female laughter; the redheaded woman his imagination had conjured is real, well almost. The woman promises to help him have his revenge against Zeus, if he helps her. She tells him her name is Keia, but it is in reality Circe…
UNCHAINED is the latest in the long-running Eternal Guardians series, and this novella works perfectly well as a standalone. Ms. Naughton successfully combines ancient Greek mythology and the 21st century; I really enjoyed the mix, particularly in the dialogues, dude! The author has created an intricate worldbuilding, which remains crystal clear even if one isn’t familiar with the other books in the series or even Greek mythology. UNCHAINED, in spite of being rather short, presents a complete story, surprisingly fully developed characters, with enough room for growth, especially in Circe’s case, and quite a bit of action, as well as detailed backstories on Circe, Prometheus, and Zeus. I think one of the main reasons why this novella works so well is that it’s full of movement and colour. Ms. Naughton’s descriptions are so crisp and vivid, that few words are needed to convey what is happening, thus no time is wasted. The characters are totally unique and positively fascinating: the Sirens are something else, but nothing compared to the delectably evil Zeus; he’s truly evil but absolutely mesmerising. UNCHAINED is a captivating and magical story, where a lovely romance blooms and we are – facetiously – told in what consists a Greek god!

Wow! Finally Prometheus’ story. The Titan has had me intrigued ever since I read Natasa and Titus' book "Bound". Wary but lonely he prowls his abode and is haunted by a red-haired temptress who rules his dreams. And now he can finally hold her in his arms but with the knowledge that their time together is fleeting.
Circe was not always a good witch but being imprisoned by Zeus has given her ample time to re-evaluate her life. But in order to escape she must once more turn to her dark side and con Prometheus into rescuing her. But Zeus' plans are much more sinister than she know and she realizes to late that she has led Prometheus straight into Zeus' clutches once again.

Such a great book!
Once again Elizabeth Naughton transports us into the realm of Argonauts with this spine tingling addition! Prometheus and the rest of the gang help to release Keia from the clutches of Zeus. While it IS a part of a series I love, you don’t necessarily have to read them in order. However, that being said, I do highly recommend it because they’re all fantastic reads!

O início e até um pouco mais que a primeira metade da novella tem uma carga sexual tão grande e exagerada que tira um bocado o encanto a ler um pequeno episódio passado num mundo paranormal de que gosto tanto. Mas pronto, Prometheus está livre de Zeus, o próprio Zeus teve um pouco do seu remédio e tudo está bem.

Unchained is about Prometheus and Circe. When a titan and the most powerful witch cross paths you can expect some explosive fireworks. I was captivated by this story from the first page and didn’t want their story to end. Their chemistry was electric and they are quite the match. The twists and turns and secrets threaten to tear them apart. Will they survive the secrets are revealed? I loved that Prometheus got his story. I’ve read the other books in this series and the storyline never gets old for me; it’s still just as captivating as the first book. This book is a standalone and the author explains the back story very well. I recommend reading this book as well as the other books in the Eternal Guardians series.

l grew up reading Greek's Myths. This is about Prometheus and Circe; two myths combined into one. It's a bit slow to get going. There doesn't seem to be that much romance or sex. I had such high expectations!

Interesting story, now maybe they will get somewhere finding that last element. Glad Circe was able to realize that she didn't want to use anyone anymore and would rather help them. Prometheus now has incentive to involve himself in finding the element.

For thousands of years, Prometheus’s only certainty was his daily torture at Zeus’s hand. Now, unchained by the Eternal Guardians, he spends his days in solitude, trying to forget the past. He’s vowed no allegiance in the war between mortal and immortal, but when a beautiful maiden seeks him out and begs for his help, he’s once again powerless to say no. Soon, Prometheus is drawn into the very conflict he swore to avoid, and, to save the maiden’s life, he must choose sides. But she has a secret of her own, and if Prometheus doesn’t discover what she’s hiding in time, the world won’t simply find itself embroiled in a battle between good and evil, it will fall in total domination to Prometheus’s greatest enemy.
My Review:
I've always enjoyed this series from the start. I've also increasingly grown to really dislike Zeus for what he's done. Its not fair everything he's caused and put the cast of characters through.
Prometheus continues to be pushed and pulled between choosing sides which he hates doing and being a pasty to both the woman he finds himself drawn to and the god that has made his life a living hell.
I really felt for Prometheus and what he was going through.
Keia seduces him to save her life and also is the first to stake claim to a male who is so masculine that it actually makes their interactions a bit comical for me because I tend to get used to the men that are like him doing the chasing in romance novels.
This also makes for some pretty hot sex scenes between him and Keia because she tends to take the reigns and quite often lets her call the shots.
It was interesting to see how Keia changes her stance from using Prometheus to falling for him instead.
I liked the mutual rescue and survival tactic up until the heart break of reality brought Prometheus to a new realization that things weren't all as they seemed.
Way emotional.
Of course Naughton found a way to provide the best kind of ending a fan could hope for. I'm not telling what it is because its heart melt worthy.
