Laurel Beacham made working solo a personal success story and is known for her nerve, instincts, and ability to do whatever necessary to return each priceless masterpiece safely intact. As the world’s leading art recovery expert, she’s thwarted more heists than the average law enforcement professional. Museums applaud her skills. Thieves admire the cunning way she operates.
Her last job landed her the head position over the London branch of Beacham Foundation, but bringing one case to a close only opened a bigger one. More importantly, the new case inextricably ties her to Jack Hawkes, a man smart enough to be her equal but who keeps her trust meter firmly in the red zone. Trying to stop a rumored heist of the century, the pair leap headlong into a plot that gets more dangerous and illusive by the minute. The clock counts down as the bodies and forgeries stack up.
Ritter Ames is the USA Today Bestselling author of the Organized Mysteries series and the Bodies of Art Mysteries series. When she's not writing or brainstorming new mysteries Ritter is usually trying to get her favorite yellow Lab to stay out of the pond, or keep her grouchy black cat from trying to give the dog away on Freecycle. Ritter would love to live on a boat and write from far flung locations around the globe, but the dog would constantly have to be fished from the water, and her husband and cat would just complain endlessly about the dog's smell, so staying on land seems to be the only good option to keep her sanity and not get sidetracked from writing.

This book opens with Laurel Beacham in Florida with Jack Hawkes. Despite what they have just gone through in the first book in this series, Laurel still doesn’t trust Jack and is only reluctantly working with him. He is keeping too many secrets from her while demanding she share everything she know. They are continuing to work together, however, in order to stop a major art heist, and Florida is their most promising lead. A kidnapping and a dead body prove that they are on the right track. Will they learn more about the plans in order to stop the heist? Or will they be stopped permanently?
There is a strong on-going story line in this series involving an upcoming art heist, so I definitely recommend you read these books in order. In fact, I wish I had read this one closer to the first. The author does do a good job of filling in the blanks on what has happened before, which helped me remember the events of the first book. The story starts strong and keeps going from twist to turn as the pages fly by, resolving enough to make this book feel like it has resolved while still leaving plenty for Laurel and Jack to face in the next book. The duo make for intriguing leads, and the characters we meet along the way hold our interest as well.
This is book two in the Bodies of Art Mysteries, and I enjoyed it as much as the first one. This one starts out with lots of excitement, and doesn't stop. Jack and Laurel are at it again trying to track down some missing art. Full of mystery and suspense, with a touch of romance, made this a fast read. I look forward to the next in the series!
I went straight from Book one into Book two and while book 2 seemed a touch not as exciting, it was still good. There's still problems with the relationships going on in the stories and a few changes have been made in the head office. An item not found in the first book has been found in this book, but is it real or counterfeit?
I really glad I happened on this series. The story is great and I'm really starting to like the characters even more than I did in the first book. I think this series is a WINNER! Kudos to Henery Press for taking on this series, as well!!
Huge thanks to Henery Press for approving my request and to Net Galley for providing me with a free e-galley in exchange for an honest review.
A fast fun book as good as the first one in the series. Both are set in the Art World. More information on MC's backgrounds. Laurel is now head of the London Office and Cassie is now her assistant. We learn more about Nico. Jack is still a mystery but all are working together following Simon's clues. Laurel and Jack fly to Mami to search for the safe box. Only to find new players in the game. There are many twists and turns that will keep you reading. Be sure to have plenty of time to read as you won't want to put the book down.
Disclosure: I a free copy from HENERY PRESS through Netgalley for an honest review. I would like to thank them for this opportunity to read and review the book. The opinions are my own.
I couldn’t wait to read more about Laurel and Jack! This latest book in the series doesn’t disappoint! Mystery, intrigue, romance and suspense all rolled into one fabulous book! The fast pace will keep you reading well into the night. This book is one you won’t want to put down! I can’t wait to read more in this series!
One of the things I love about a great book is that I have to keep reading and cannot put it down. Marked Masters by Ritter Ames is book 2 of this new series and it hit this mark for me. Seriously, my heart was racing and my brain kept wanting to jump ahead to read what was coming, even though I needed to read every word so that I could know what is going on. This book starts right smack dab in the middle of an “op” involving Laural Beacham and Jack Hawkes, only this time, they start off in the US. Marked Masters is just as fact- and travel-packed as book 1 and travels to London and Italy. These two keep getting into trouble and the other is there to help get them out. Yes, chaos ensues. They are on the trail of some of the same art thieves, along with some new “bad” guys but I won’t give any details as it would spoil the story for you. I am even more hooked into this series, if that is even possible, and will wait impatiently for book 3. There’s a bit of a set up for the next book, at the end, for what I believe to be series continuity, but not enough so that you feel as if you wasted your time reading it. It just made me anxious for the next book. I was given an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest opinion. Honestly? Pick up this series! I love it and am happy I found this new-to-me-author.

Ritter Ames has written series books (Organized for Murder AND Bodies of Art Mysteries)that are well-crafted with intriguing stories that keep the reader hooked from beginning to end. The characters are well develop that you never questions the characters motives or actions.
Ritter Ames sent me an advance copy of Marked Masters and I drove right in excited to find out what mysteries awaited Jack and Laurel. The book move along quickly keeping the reader engaged with the shoot outs, dead bodies, and missing art as well as the tug a war relationship between Jack and Laurel. I enjoyed finding out more about Laurel’s background and her love for art. The author made Laurel come alive on the page making the reader care for her personal and professional struggles.
The book fill-ins in the details of Laurels life before her father lost everything and I enjoyed getting to know Laurel better to the point she was more person than a character on a paper. Some characters were flushed out while other stood still in the same place they were left at the end of Counterfeit Conspiracies.
Over half way through the book I was left with more questions than answers making realize not everything could be resolved by the end of the book. Which made me happy because I didn’t want the adventure to end. As the readers follows a tried Laurel they began to feel for her and her lose never knowing her mother, who is Simon and what is Jacks connection to the endless government agencies.
Jack keeps way to many secrets from Laurel and you can feel her frustrations though the book. I also love the fact that Jack and Laurel are at each others throats which makes for some fun banter.
I enjoyed the chase scenes that were easy to imagine and in some ways this book reminds me of a modern day Remington Steele with the way Laurel (as Laura Holt) and Jack Hawkes (Remington Steele) play off each other though out the entire book.
I think the best part of this book is the question I started to develop…. Who is the Master Artist the person who created the art work or the Person who can forge the art work perfectly? If you love art, adventure and mystery this book is for you.
JACK AND LAUREL OUR MODERN DAY REMINGTON STELLE AND IT TAKES A THIEF DUO ARE BACK,
happy to say laurel and jack are back - and the book opens with laurel trying to steal (uh recover) a painting only to find out jack has beat her to it yet again--- next thing they are at the airport ready to take off off and jack goes missing- then they are in car chase- followed by a kidnapping- spend some time on a yacht- then meet over yet another dead body--- so a normal week for our heroes-- as they grab planes and jet all over europe trying to figure out who is making forgeries- who is planning the biggest art heist in history and what does moran want with laurel-- this book gave us a lot of laurels back story - let us know a little more about cassie and nico- ( is there a spark going on between them?) filled in a few blanks about our mystery hero jack- as well as leaving us more perplexed about who exactly he is--- does he work for a secret agency- is he actually out for himself-- these "friends" he keeps running into- are they friends or spies playing a part?- there seem to be more questions then answers- in this new series by ritter ames- so if you like your books to have strong independent - fast thinking - sassy - gals and like your heroes to be hunky take no prisoners = with lots of suspenseful global edge of your seat action- grab a glass of wine-- fasten your seat belt and enjoy the ride- you will be glad you did
I can't even begin to put into words how much I LOVED this book. I was up until 1am reading because I just had to finish it. The chase scenes are amazing. We learn much more about Laurel and Jack. This book is loaded with action, twists, turns and secrets. I love seeing how the story continues to develop. I found myself wanting to scream at the end, as it left me wanting more but my hubby was asleep and didn't want to wake him. I am sure you will enjoy this every bit as much as I have. Book 3 can't come soon enough. These books are like chocolate for me just can't get enough. I received and ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review of this book, which in no way influenced my opinion of this book.
Marked Masters is the second book in the Bodies of Art Mysteries series by Ritter Ames. As Jack and Laurel continue their quest from Counterfeit Conspiracies (book 1), they are also hired to stop what maybe the biggest art heist ever. From Laurel's near death experience in Miami, to Jack's arrest in Florence, this book keeps you on the edge of your seat.Trying to figure out who is part of the underground group spearheading the art heist and who might be the innocent victims, keeps you guessing throughout the book. I just love, love, love, this series. The descriptions of Florence, Italy are so vivid, they make me want to book a flight immediately. I wish I had a Cassie and a Nico for my own use and I think most females would enjoy Jack. I'm looking forward to book 3.
I have to say one thing for this series, if you want nonstop action, this is it. This sort of reminds me of Lara Croft and James Bond collide. I love Laurel and Jack and in this book they seem to be getting a little closer. I do have to say the non-trust between them gets a little tiring as poor Laurel never seeming to get any sleep did, but I guess that's what happens in that business. You don't know who you can trust and there are plenty of twists. Good side characters, love Nico, and this book is leading you into the next as the first did into this one, however I don't think that you would have any problem reading this as a stand alone. I will definitely continue on with this series.
Marked Masters reminded me of a modern day Remington Steele with the two leads playing off each other and just enough sexual tension with readers excited for book 3. I think the best part of this book is the question I started to develop…. Who is the Master Artist the person who created the art work or the Person who can forge the art work perfectly? If you love art, adventure and mystery this book is for you. If a book can change one persons mind or cause them to think the book is a perfect! ARC From Netgelley. Just finished reading..another great art mystery with tons of action and even a hint of a possible romance between Laurel and Jack...maybe please. They are on the hunt again for missing art and discover forgeries in a big scale operation. Pieces of Jacks past are revealed sort of and Laurel discovers things about her mother too. A must read so full of action domestic and international. Love Florence, Italy. Love this series
After reading, and sincerely enjoying, Counterfeit Conspiracies, I was eager to start Marked Masters. However, other commitments kept me from diving in right away. I found that a mixed blessing, mainly because it gave me time to really digest the first book, but also to know that I was going to need to set aside time to properly read this one. With the first book I got lucky; I had a nice chuck of uninterrupted time to really get into the book without any worrying about distractions. I didn't have the going into the second book right away. It took me a couple of tries, but I finally got a chance to really dive in and enjoy this book.
We start shortly after the conclusion of events in book 1. It quickly becomes apparent that there is an overall series mystery, in addition to the one that is the focus of the book. And though the book maintained it's retro-classic feel, I really enjoyed the updated feminist power of our heroine saving not only herself, but the hero as well. Who says we need a man to save us? Two thumbs up for Girl Power!
Although most cozies are written with a lighter tone, I did enjoy the more drama based feel for these books. Not that they weren't humorous; there were several spots that I couldn't help but giggle with evil glee at Laurel's shenanigans. It's just that the books had a more weighty feel, most probably aided by the international locations in the book. This was once again a 4 star read.
Netgalley and Henery Press provided me with this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
[ I received this book free from the publisher through NetGalley. I thank them for their generousity. In exchange, I was simply asked to write an honest review, and post it. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255 “Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising]
[Another note: I have read this book before (3/15) and I am a member of the author's street team. None of this has affected my response to this incarnation from a new publisher]
"What did I need to strip away to see the true measure of what seemed an insurmountable task? What did I need to dissect to see the truth?"
It's not that long from the end of the first book in this series timewise. Now Laurel Beachem is helping a friend right a wrong by stealing back a painting used to blackmail a politician's wife. That is, if she can find it....turns out Jack Hawkes is working the same job and got there first. No matter, it's back in the hands of the "good guys". It is just a sidebar.
Laurel and Jack are teamed up again, but who trusts who, or more like who should anyone trust. Even the forgeries are being forged, and that confuses the heck out of everyone. As much as Jack has a memory for faces, Laurel has a memory for brushstrokes, and together they figure our the mystery of the Marked Masters.
A fast fun read that makes you feel like you are riding on the back of a Vespa all around Florence. brava

Laurel Beachum is at it again! The first book in this series introduced an Art Historian with a degree from Cornell, and her family's problematic progenitors, and a little more on hiw her profligate father tarnished the family reputation. This book reflects her love for her work and for the art she restores back to their rightful owners.
We are introduced to how she became enamored with art, and why she feels so passionate about it. We see how she has made friends she's not sure of, enemies who want her dead, and fellow conspirators who care for her despite what the rumors might say.

Marked Masters by Ritter Ames is book #2 in her Bodies of Art series. I literally just finished book one and dove straight into this one because I needed to continue the story.
Laurel is such a complex woman but I like her and admire her knowledge and her sassy attitude. She is finally adjusting to working with a partner, even if she still doesn't trust him. Jack Hawkes is still a mystery to me. He is definitely an Alpha who is used to working alone and giving orders, not taking them from anyone. In this book, I did get a glimpse of more depth to him than in the previous book. I do understand Laurel's trust issue though because he is definitely closed off when it comes to his past and who or what he is working for to pursue the art conspiracies.
Another fast paced plot but the details of the paintings and of Florence did slow me down but only because I wanted to look up the places that Ms. Ames was describing throughout the story. The intrigue of forgeries and murder kept me guessing but I must wait until the next book for more clues. Please, Ms. Ames, write faster so that I continue the adventure with Laurel, Jack and Nico.
I received an ARC from Henery Press via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you, Henery Press, for your generosity.
The suspense kept me on the edge of my seat, having trouble catching my breath. I'm hooked on this series, fascinated with the high-society world of art-supporters & the seedy world of art forgeries. I could easily read another 3-4 more volumes of this series without losing interest. These characters pull you into their lives, and the action leaves you happily dazed.
Merged review:
I loved this book. I adore the main characters Laurel & handsome Jack, & also the supporting ones of Cassie & Nico. When I hit my reading stride, I literally could not stop. I fought sleep & awoke starving but preferring to read. I halted temporarily, anxious to restart. I kept having that hard to swallow, jittery feeling when there's a chase, even when there wasn't one. It was a roller coaster ride of fast-paced action. I love that feeling. I didn't want to stop reading! My problem with this book is that it ended before I wanted. I would have loved several hundred more pages. Now I'm anxiously awaiting #3 & hoping Ritter Ames writes quickly!
I truly enjoyed this second book in the Laurel Beacham Bodies of Art Mystery series. She once again has teamed up with Jack Hawks in not only a continuation of the first book, but now they are onto a whole new art counterfeiting ring. Sometimes the action is happening faster than this reader can keep up with, but the author does a fine job of making sure that her readers are feeling like they are actually present when the action is going down.
Ms Ames does a fine job of describing locals, art and characters to the point where you are able to picture it all in your mind's eye...but she never gets too wordy, thereby loosing the reader's attention. I am now anxiously awaiting the next installment in the series so that I can read more about Laurel and Jack's exploits and perhaps find sone of the answers to the mysteries brought out in the first two books.
I was provided this book by the Author/Publisher through Netgalley for my honest review. The above review is my own opinion.
Marked Masters is the second in the Bodies of Art series by Ritter Ames. The first book, Conterfeit Conspiracies, introduced Laurel Beacham mid- job, and did not expand on her back story overmuch. In this second book, the pacing is very slightly slower, and the mood a tiny bit darker.
The main theme of art recovery and protection has not changed, but the location is equal parts Miami and Florence, rather than London and France (as in the first book).
This was an entertaining read, and I am getting very attached to Laurel. The only peeve I had was that I still feel like I know very little about Laurel back story, and I have more questions after finishing the book.
I will definitely read the next in the series, if and when it is available, and I am hoping that some of the cryptic aspects of the first two books will be resolved.
Great Book! This is a great book; this is the second book in the Bodies of Art series by Ritter Ames. Larel Beacham is known as the world’s leading art recovery expert. She has thwarted more heists than the average law enforcement professional. Her last job was the head position over the London branch of Beacham Foundation which has now caused her an even bigger case. She has to work with Jack Hawkes in order to track down some missing art. If you are looking for a great mystery then you need to read this book. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series. A Review copy was provided to me in exchange for a fair and honest review. The free book held no determination on my personal review.
Laurel and Jack are back at it again, chasing leads and art thieves all around the world. Ritter Ames had me on the edge of my seat through the whole book. So much mystery and suspense I couldn't put it down. I wanted to read ahead, but I knew I needed to read each word carefully so I knew what was going on. Marked Masters is a definite must read!
I continue to love this series! Laurel and Jack's relationship is still interesting and developing! The action is non-stop. I'm looking forward to book 3.
I received this book from NetGalley and Henery Press in return for an honest review
“Boasting a great cast of characters, good conversations and the global background, this was a very enjoyable read and I look forward to the third book in this exciting series.” – Dru’s Book Musing
This was a fun mystery that proceeded at a breathless pace and left me eager to read the other books in the series. Laurel and Jack make a great team despite Jack's enigmatic personality and Laurel's frustration at not being able to get inside his head. I read this book first and though I understood everything, I would recommend reading the series in order so you don't miss any of the nuanced hints about what went on in book 1. I'm off to read the first book asap...
Well done! Marked Masters is the second in a series by Ritter Ames about theft and recovery in the art world. Although there are references to the first book Counterfeit Conspiracies, this mystery could stand alone. The author has done a remarkable job of giving just enough information about the previous book so that a new reader understands, but not so much as to be tedious to those who have read the previous book.
As I had hoped, old friends are back. Laurel is working with Jack, once again reluctantly, and Nico and Cassie again provide her with all she needs for her activities. I had not expected to see Tony B. back and was astonished to find another character from the first book appear in the second half of the book. And of course, we have new characters, some of whom promise to join us again in the next Laurel Beacham adventure (apparently scheduled for October 2016)
This book is set in Miami, Florida and Florence, Italy. While I have been to Miami, I certainly don’t know the city, but could imagine everything from the author’s descriptions. Florence is a city I have had the good fortune to visit on several occasions for weeks at a time. I was easily transported back to my stays there.
Once again various works of art play a primary part. Some are so famous that anyone would know them. Others were not so famous and so I was sent to the Internet again to see what else I could learn about them. The title comes from the artist’s mark a made to show who created the masterpiece. On a painting, one would say that is the signature, but sculptures and other items need to be “signed” with something like a hallmark. I had never really considered that before. I love that I am learning more about the art world while reading an enjoyable book.
The “toys” Nico provides are worthy of Q’s gifts to James Bond. I am amazed that she can carry her bag of tricks in her designer handbag. The previous book brought to mind videos like White Collar, Monument Men, True Lies, and The Italian Job. But now, with Laurel and Jack working together – and Laurel wearing her black cat suit at least once in each book, I am beginning to see them as Emma Peel and John Steed from The Avengers TV series from the 1960’s.
Unlike other cozy mysteries, where the protagonist puzzles through things, realizes who the antagonist is just as that person puts our heroine in danger and then, thankfully, someone comes to rescue her, Laurel is constantly aware of the peril she is in. She is hyper aware of her circumstances, where she is, who is around her, constantly looking for hazards so that she might evade them once again. And even with that awareness, there are times when she has to escape on her own – run away to fight another day.
I am reading on a kindle so unlike a physical book, I can’t tell immediately how much of the story has been read and what is left. This book is so fast paced with so many plot twists, that I often sadly thought we must be at (or at least near the end) when I looked down at the percentage read of the book and found to my delight I was nowhere close!
I received this book free from the publisher through NetGalley. I thank them for their generosity. In exchange, I was simply asked to write an honest review, and post it. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255 “Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising.
Marked Masters is the second book in a Bodies of Art Mystery series written by Ritter Ames. The storyline is well thought out and developed, the characters are relatable, and the plot is full of surprising twists and turns which makes this a gripping story. Ms. Ames has skillfully written a story of deception, intrigue, and humorous situations that suspense that kept me. Once again, she has intricately woven a tale with plenty of action and suspense that kept me engaged from the beginning of the book until the end and crafted in a way that kept me guessing. I am looking forward to reading the next installment in this series. I highly recommend this series.
Laurel Beachem has been promoted to head position over the London branch of Beacham Foundation. Laurel and Jack Hawkes are forced, once again, to work together and are globetrotting from Florida to London to Italy searching for missing art when they discover a large forgery operation and learn that even the forgeries are being forged. Jack has a memory for faces and Laurel has a memory for brushstrokes, and they work together figure out who is responsible for the forgeries. Some of Jack’s past is revealed, Laurel discovers things about her mother, and wonders if she can trust anyone. Laurel and Jack quickly find out this operation could prove to be deadly.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review from NetGalley.
Marked Masters is the second book in Ritter Ames' Bodies of Art Mystery Series. It begins soon after the completion of book 1, Counterfeit Conspiracies. The Beacham Foundations Laurel Beacham, now head of the London office, and the mysterious Jack Hawkes have travelled to Florida, first Orlando, then Miami, following leads to find Simon Babbage and the missing artifact. In addition, they are seeking clues in an attempt to thwart a major art heist that the underground is humming about but none of their sources have any real information for them.
In Miami, Tony B, known in the underground circles as someone you don't want to cross, but also someone who has kept his hands clean, has Laurel kidnapped only to show her beloved art works that were stolen years ago. Using all her wiles, and a few tools packed by Nico, her right-hand tech geek.
The trail takes them back across the Atlantic and again to Florence, where the connections are fast and the happenings are furious. Follow Laurel, Jack, Nico, and the rest of the Beacham Foundation crew as they struggle against forces they do not yet comprehend. Who is actually seeking to harm and torment Laurel, and what is the real part that Jack Hawkes plays in this puzzle?
Fast paced with unexpected twists, this is a perfect sequel to the first book in the series and link to the next edition. I do recommend this book and series.
More mystery-thriller fun with Laurel, Jack, Nico and the world of international art, big money, and designer fashions in an intricate plot carried over from book one, Counterfeit Conspiracies. This time the setting spills from Miami to London to tiny villages in lovely Italy, and it's quite exciting to see what's around the next turn. A few genuine, jaw-dropping surprises mix well with the continuing development of Laurel and Jack as the main characters as we learn more about their history and motives. There's even a little blurring of the lines of who is a good guy/gal and who isn't, and all is not what it seems. Plenty of room for more of the story to come and I maintain this series would make an excellent fast-paced movie. For those of you following along, we may have traded in the well-used Prada for a Fendi since book one, but the purse pockets still hold mysterious tools and equipment to assist the action and fun that ensues. Bravo to a sequel that is even more exciting than the first book. Keeping my seat belt fastened for the next in the series and hate having to wait for it. Write faster, please! (Notes to self: Go to Italy. Spend night on yacht. Seek handsome British sidekicks.)
Laura Beachem has a new mission...to retrieve a painting that is being used to blackmail a friend of hers. But imagine her surprise when after failing to find the painting, she discovers former colleague Jack Hawkes in the back seat of her car with the painting in hand. Turns out he was also asked to retrieve this piece of art, and just beat her to the punch. But Laurel also retrieved a little black book with other blackmailing schemes detailed in it and she and Jack need to get this in the hands of the proper agencies. But doing so seems to be a problem and they quickly find out the stakes are deadly. Or does this have anything to do with Laurel's previous escape from underworld figure Moran. This is the second book in this series and as with the first presents interesting characters and nonstop action. These books should be read in order in order to better appreciate the characters back stories. I look forward to the next book in this series. Disclosure: I received an advance copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
