Kyoko's first job is a commercial!!!! (If you don't count Bo that is) :D

That is going to open a lot of doors for her.

I also can't believe how she manages to be Ren's manager! He is very good at everything involving acting but his appetite is something that takes a professional to deal with! O.O

Edit:

Erika is crazy! She was willing to break Kanae's bones! -.-

Maria's lunch box is disgusting! Are those real?! 😭 (How did I just learn about these emoji's on Goodreads!?!?)

Poor Kyoko. She really wants to go to school. :(

Ren protecting Kyoko and apologizing for her is hilarious. I feel bad for both of them though.

Poor Kyoko desperately wanted her mother's approval and affection! 😭

Ren's reaction to Kyoko scolding him is HILARIOUS! 🤣

And this volume takes the series to an even better level! Love love love this volume!!! One of my favorites! It has some of the sweetest scenes and panels! WE get a really good look at Ren in this one. His life, his thoughts toward Kyoko, etc. He has fond memories of her as a child but still hates that she wants revenge but an acting scene and discussion might change some of that. Kyoko has to step up and act as his manager for a few days. And the levels to which she goes in amazing! Next time I get sick, I want her to come care for me! She is improving by leaps and bounds in acting and the president has a nice surprise for her as well. I really do like the president. Even if he is a bit odd and flamboyant in his behavior, dress and entrances.

This was such an enjoyable and wholesome volume. The beginning was so cute and emphasized the beginning of Kyoko and Moko’s friendship! I love their friendship so much it’s so adorable especially since they both don’t really have experience with female friendships like this.

I was a bit offended with how everyone was underestimating Kyoko’s ability to be a substitute manager. For someone who’s never managed anyone before, I think she did pretty great. Hoping Mr. Yashiro recovers soon but I LOVED seeing Kyoko as Ren’s manager. We got a lot of interactions and moments between them in this volume. It was hilarious how hard Ren was trying to deny that he caught a cold. Kyoko really did her best and she’s such a sweet person in general.

It seems as if Kyoko and Ren keep trying to convince themselves that the other hates them when it’s clearly not true. Ren randomly remembering child Kyoko was pretty funny and Kyoko needs to realize that he’s Corn already. Anyways, I really enjoyed this volume and Ren’s “gentlemanly smile” kills me everytime.

This was an amazing read. I think the manga is the best version of the story, but I want to give the anime and tv series based on the manga a chance as well. I am in love with this manga. It is one of my all-time favourites. Also, I love the characters besides Shou. In this volume, I really loved that there was more about Ren's feelings towards Kyoko. Also, Kyoko is my favourite character in this manga. I love how she keeps improving and showing people that she is able to act. Also, I love that she is willing to take challenges. It shows that she will never give up. I thought this volume was the best yet because she became Ren's manager for a few days, and she ends up taking care of him. I love her, and I wish I was in the manga so she could be my best friend. The ending was fantastic. Can't wait to read Volume 7 and I hope it keeps getting better. Overall, an incredible read.

The start of this volume - with Erika being a sore loser about the commercial and trying to get her minions to take Moko out of being competition at any cost - was honestly amazing. I mean yes, she wanted them to break bones... but they just failed at it SO miserably that it was a joy to "watch".

Kyouko getting the chance to be around Ren more, by "taking over" as his manager temporarily due to Yukihiko being sick was amazing too. I mean... I'm a bit concerned that they would let a "newbie" with "no managerial experience" be the manager of the "number one" star in Japan but uhh.... this IS a manga and it's meant to be over the top so I'll let that slide. Plus, it was amazing seeing how well they got along together (...compared to normal) with Kyouko doing her best to help him recover from an illness (which he doesn't have. clearly. because he has never gotten sick.) and really going above and beyond... as she always does ;D

I really loved their reaction when he thought that she had dressed him in his pyjamas for the night. They were both so adorably embarrassed and it was great <3

2021: Squee!! I adore Kyoko and Ren. The cold, Kyoko being a sub, acting... just love! XD

2009: It's the start, or continuation (however you want to view it) of Kyoko's and Ren's relationship. It's about here that I go from adoring this series to being full blown addicted!

I'm annoyed with myself because I got mixed up over how many volumes the anime covered...I was thinking I'd be moving to new content after this one, but I'd just grabbed six volumes as a reasonable amount to carry home from the library. I need to get to volume 12 to catch up with the anime, so I'm only halfway through now. Definitely too daunting to try to plow through in the near future, so it'll take a while to find out more about what's happening with Kyoko and Ren.

This volume should've been one of my favorites, with Kyoko taking over as Ren's temporary manager while his manager is ill. It's clearer in the manga that she was just a dummy manager, meant to follow Ren around and trigger his Gentleman Instincts so he'd eat proper meals while making sure she was eating. I don't love that; Kyoko is very capable and it felt as though she was doing more as his manager in the anime.

The good bits, with her studying at his apartment and taking care of him while he was feverish, seemed oddly fast-paced and glossed over here. Plus, I didn't love the translation choice with him just calling her "Kyoko" instead of "Kyoko-chan" (Kyoko dear in the anime localization). Yeah, I know that in Japanese, only using a first name is a big deal, but it doesn't really come across. And if it was Kyoko-chan in the original, then why not include the honorific here? I guess they're using "Mr." throughout, so it wouldn't entirely fit, but the translation choices seem odd in this series. They kept in that whole bit with Ren's script that made absolutely no sense in English, and yet? Here, a crucial emotional moment, they just handwave and say whatever?

Also, the angles with the "Do you really hate me that much?" and Ren's surprise at Kyoko's silence weren't all that effective.

And the ice bag!! What was that absolutely ridiculous ice bag contraption??

Nakamura makes the strangest choices in this manga sometimes. She even rambles about it in her sidebar notes, but why did her editor not tell her to change that? It looked truly absurd.

I like this volume for its in-depth look at Ren's dedication to and love of acting, and his increasing gentleness towards Kyoko as he sees more and more of her true self behind her Sho Revenge Agenda. And I like how many layers his personality has; he's the only character who's as vibrant and multifaceted as Kyoko, at least so far.

On to the next volume! Eventually...

Today's post is on Skip Beat!, vol 6 by Yoshiki Nakamura. It is the six in her long running series and you need to have read the five volumes to understand what is going on. It is 190 pages long and is published by Shojo Beat. The cover has Kyoko and Ren on it with flowers and ribbons on it. There is no foul language, no sex, and no violence in this book. The intended reader is someone who likes shojo manga, strong heroines, and funny revenge stories. The story is told from third person close of Kyoko the main character. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

From the back of the book- Ren's manager Yashiro comes down with a nasty cold in the middle of an important shoot, and dares Kyoko to take over his job! Of course Kyoko accepts, but shes in way over her head with a pack of new responsibilities and the scorn of everyone who thinks she's doing a bad job. But the more time Ren spend with Kyoko the more he sees her kind and gentle side. Will all her hassles be worth his change of heart?

Review- We have two stories in this volume with Kyoko and Kanae doing the shoot for their commercial and Kanae's enemy trying to hurt the girls to stop them from getting the shoot done. But Kyoko foils all those plans by just being herself. Then we get Ren and Kyoko for the rest of the volume. Ren does not want a temp manager but he needs one because he does not take care of himself and needs to be watched. Over the course of the volume Ren begins to see that Kyoko has not really changed, she is still the same person at her heart that he met so many years ago. Kyoko is getting more and more focused on herself and her wants for the future instead of hating Sho all the time. I am glad to see Kyoko being to focus on herself and what she needs and I look forward to continuing with her on her journey.

I give this volume a Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.

This volume marked for a big and influential change in Mogami's heart. She's begun to do things for herself for the very first time, to the point where even her revenge on Sho Fuwa is no longer her primary concern but rather it's become a sort of handicap, holding her back from the intended path of progression. We are able to see her tenderness once again as she takes up the role of "substitute manager" for Ren Tsuruga while his manager is out sick. As she takes up this role (more so of a perfect caretaker instead, but it's fine since that was the true intent of the department who employed her), she does so perfectly, enough to earn her a 100% mark from Ren Tsuruga (which he quickly deducts 10 from after she clarifies that her tenderness and loving care did not extend beyond her fierce determination to do 110% at the job she felt she was hired to do). Though it may or may not appear so to Mogami and Ren Tsuruga themselves, they've both already begun to develop an awkward but meaningful bond, different from the one they shared as children (which Mogami is not yet aware of that this is indeed her precious Kuon/Corn).
Also... When Ren calls her "Kyoko dear" in the anime to accommodate for the feel of him calling her "Kyoko-chan" in Japanese... I never noticed before how deeply that hits and how it feels just about the same-- as much as possible with the language differences. I'm going to try to remember that sort of translation and save it for the future.

So I just wanted to start by saying that I really did like this volume, but then again I had my problems with it. I kind of found it unlikely that Kyoko would be made substitute manager as part of the Love Me section’s work. I also found it a bit too convenient that she was Ren’s substitute manager. But I still liked this volume, because although it was convenient, it was also really amusing and fun.
Ren and Kyoko’s relationship got developed into something more friendly, Kyoko got the chance to start high school, and of course right at the beginning we saw the aftermath of the commercial audition. Overall a a good development to the series was made in this volume, especially with Ren and Kyoko.

It is SO satisfying to see Kyoko and Moko (Kanae) finally have their proper debut into showbiz, even if it is just a small commercial for soda. And I love that they put the brat in her place.

Plus we get to have Ren and Kyoko hanging out, even though it is against their will lmao. They're hilarious together! But I also quite enjoy seeing the softer and more serious moments in this series too. It shows that these characters are more than just silly and ridiculous, they're complex and interesting as well.

As usual, I'm thrilled to see what'll happen next, especially because of that cliffhanger!

A good ending for Erika, hope she will act with Moko soon. Kyouko and Moko becoming officially best friends!
Then finally! Ren is here! But he is sick 😂 which is better because Kyouko can take care of him! Also finally he is wondering if Kyouko really acts because of revenge.

I liked this volume more than the latest ones. Ren is handsome and now, I'm certain he knew Kioko in the past. She is very determined. Her mother required too much to Kioko, as a child, to be worth of her. It seems that Kioko has a natural craft for recitation. Ren can't help to believe it is only for revenge vs Sho.
