She was, still is, and will never be anything but my everything.
Our love was all consuming, passionate, and forbidden. We took risks to be together, carrying on an affair for months before her psychotic drug lord husband found the truth behind the lies. She barely escaped with her life … and that of my son.
My club president told me that our love was no longer worth the risk, gave me a choice, and loyalty to the club being what it is, I walked away from her. I left behind the only thing I’ve ever wanted more than life itself and remained the dutiful soldier to a corrupt leader.
Six years and a promotion to club president later, it’s time the lies stopped. She IS worth the risk, I’ve NEVER gone a day without thinking about her OR my son, and I know underneath it all she DOES still love me. She just won’t admit it … yet.
Born and raised in Canterbury, New Zealand, Max now resides with her family in beautiful and sunny Queensland, Australia. Life with two young children can be hectic at times and, although she may not write as often as she would like, Max wouldn’t change a thing.
An avid lover of stories from a young age, she enjoys nothing more than to get lost in the pages while the characters dictate what direction she takes. Her favourite genre to write is new adult and the events in her stories may or may not be related to real life experiences (only she will ever know for sure).
In her down time, Max can be found at her local gym brainstorming through a session with the weights. If not, she’s probably out drooling over one of many classic cars on show that she wishes she owned.
ARC kindly provided in exchange for an honest review. What a ride! This book was a perfect mix of love, danger, badass bikers and dark drug lords! I enjoyed every minute of it. Elena is taking care of her sick father. She despises the man, she doesn't love him, but being close to him provides a reprieve from the dangerous man she is engaged to. Carlos Redmond is a cruel man and he is holding Elena's life in the palm of his hand. When Elena meets King, prospect to the Fallen Aces MC, her entire life is altered. Attraction is instant but being with King risks everything she tries to save, including her mother's life. King is not a man who finds it easy to be forward with a woman, but Elena makes him overcome his introvert tendencies. Their connection is raw and passionate but can bring them both to their deaths. When the Fallen Aces mix in Carlo's business, Elena will find herself in the middle of a crossfire that can burn her to ashes. Will she survive Carlos' sinister ways long enough to escape and help her mother as well? Read to find out. The book ends on a cliffhanger and I cannot wait to read what happens next. I loved the characters and the author also created a very believable and interesting villain. Carlos brought me shivers! King was utterly lovable and one of the best bikers I've ever read. Elena was strong and relatable and I cannot wait to see where the author will take her captivating story. The writing had great attention to detail and even though I felt it could have been a little shorter, I enjoyed the ride. Very excited for book two! Do not miss this if you are a fan of the genre.
Shut the front door! Holy crap.... this book was AMAZING! It was nothing like I expected it to be and had me glued to the pages from the first word. I love Max Henry and her words. She has a magical way in her writing where she chews you up and spits you out but in such a good way.
I am not a huge MC fan. I pick and choose here and there which ones I will read and I am sooooo glad I did not pass on this book. Wow, from the first chapter, first page, first line, first word... I was hooked. I couldn't put this book down and as I got to the end... I just knew... I did.
And bam! An ending that makes you want to toss your kindle across the room and beg the author for just a little more... a little taste of what is to come. This book was like a drug to me and I was gladly the addict. I loved everything about this book and I pray we get more crazy soon.
Max Henry gives her readers a delicious and crazy intense story that won't soon be forgotten. She is going to take you on the ride of your life. Grab a glass of wine... or the bottle because Unrequited is going to be a new favorite that won't let you go until love after the pages quit turning.
This book was a fast read. It was sexy, gritty, raw, intense, passionate, forbidden, and left me with one of the worst book hangovers I have had since.... well a while. This book was worth the read and totally worth that killer ending. King is gonna make you swoon and fall mighty hard.
Complete waste of time. Literally NOTHING that is detailed in the synopsis happened in this book. It describes everything that happens before the synopsis then ends on a cliffhanger. Which totally sucks. This book had potential but it was all over the place with characters behaving in ways that weren't consistent with who they are purported to be. Also far too much telling and not enough showing. No character development, nothing to make you like the characters, and very little plot development. I wanted to read the book that was described but there is nothing of that book to be found in this one. Just terrible overall.
Unrequited captured me with its gorgeous cover. I wasn’t familiar with the author; Max Henry and I obviously had not read anything she has previously written. So with no expectations or any preconceived notions, I dived into Unrequited and didn’t come up for a breath of air until the very last page. And then, I would like to say there was a sigh of relief – but it was more like a string of expletives because it ends on a cliff-hanger and dammit, if I do not need the rest of this story like I need my next breath.
MC books are favourites of mine, the promise that my moral compass will be tested and boundaries will be pushed to the extreme keeps me addicted. Every chapter of Unrequited is filled with heart racing suspense and the equality of drama distributed between both main characters, has solidified Max Henry as a gem in the MC book world.
In an unexpected meeting the pull between King and Elena is undeniable. But like oil and water their worlds are intertwined but very much separate. The question is simple can they be together? And how will they make it happen? As every hurdle is bigger than the last, this journey is gruesome, gut-wrenching and painful. With a cloud of hopelessness often seeping it’s way into this story, the obvious love shared between King and Elena will hold your heart in a vice, praying for light at the end of the tunnel.
Unrequited takes readers into the intricacies of the underground world, with threads of passion and chemistry woven through this story line. The love between Elena and King is brought to life with a well thought out and executed backdrop of the underground world. Filled with blood, bruises and brutality, Unrequited has successfully fulfilled my MC needs.
Unrequited, a story that had me hoping and wishing for the impossible. Characters without fear surround the heroine Elena, a victim of circumstance simply by being born into a family who lived in a country where the Cartels ruled. An agreement to better her life has her firmly in the grip of Carlos, a ruthless cartel boss. A deal she is dreading coming to fruition, delaying the inevitable by being given leave to tend to her dying father.
She meets King, a prospect for the Fallen Aces MC by chance and strikes up a friendship with him. King is not your average biker character, he is withdrawn and not at all confident around women. Elena brings him out of his shell and pushes him to take risks that have the potential to be fatal. The affair they begin goes over a long stretch of time since the opportunities to escape Carlos are slim.
King’s hands are tied by club loyalty which he accepted reluctantly with the knowledge that he was no match on his own to take on Carlos and his cartel. It was strange to read an MC book where the focus was on a prospect rather than a patched member, mainly because his power within the club was nonexistent. The antics they got away with were at times unbelievable, I was waiting for the wrath of hell to be unleashed on them, adding to the suspense of the story.
What lured me into the story was the forbidden love based on a caring friendship. Although the story is fraught with deception, their reasons are based on survival and doing it for all the right reasons. The hope they gave each other shed light into this dark story and I can’t wait to read on to see what the future holds for them.
What I struggled with: *Carlos’s indifference and not understanding what was driving his interest in Elena. There are details given but I got the feeling there’s more to it than we are privy too! *Some of the love scenes read a little ‘instructional’ rather than passionate, but I put that down to conveying his awkwardness around women *The risks they took…
What I loved: *King’s family *King and Elena’s friendship
Well What Do I Say About This Awesome Book, I Am New To Max's Work But I Shall Not Be Anymore, This Book Is Brilliant, Gritty, Violent But Full Of So Much Love And Vulnerability That It Sort Of Leaves You Breathless And A Little Lost For Words.
King Well My God I Just Loved This Man With All That He Was, Alas He Was A Stupid Son Of A Bitch, That Let Something Go That Should Have Been His Always, He Picked And He Shouldn't Have. I Loved Elena So Much She Was So Different From The Norm But Stronger Than Anyone Gives Her Credit For.
Max Henry Had A New Fan Within The First 5 Chapters And I Just Kept Loving It More And More. This Book Ends On A Cliffhanger But My God Is It Awesome, Unbreakable I Am Coming For You.
As I started reading, I realized something. This book starts sometime in the PAST. Because King isn't the MC President, which we know he is now. But more than that, we also know that King is NOT living out his HEA with the woman he loves at the end of the Butcher Boys series. So how many books do we have to read in THIS series to catch up to the present? And then how long until he DOES get his HEA, if he even does?? I'm only on page 3 and already worried sick over the next who knows how many books in the series!!
I can't remember the last time I read a book in this genre that was THIS intense, scary, intriguing, and heartbreakingly beautiful as this story is.
I mean WOW! And just imagine how ticked I was with the way the cliffy landed. But I was just as equally giddy about the fact that I had a "Free Lending Book" due at Kindle. So King & Elena's conclusion is about to be devoured by yours truly. ;)
Get this book people while it is still free. You will not regret this one. I am on to their conclusion
Rating higher than I would because I really liked the goodness of H. He is in seedy club but is close with his parents, no messed up past. Good guy. h, not so much. She did a 180 and flipped because H would save her from husband when she had just argued why she had to stay with him.
I really enjoyed this tale of twisted life, love, death and life.
This story has a bit of everything, being a motorcycle gang story it has death, arguments, fights, intrigue and woven between club life, a romance that shouldn't be. "King" is extremely mature for someone of his age, who has joined the club life, not out of any honor, or because he grew up in it, but because he wanted to. He comes from a good family who support him, and are close to him. Elena on the other hand, has had a reasonably hard life, but sees a way out by marrying an older man. Enter Carlos. Nasty, murderous, greedy Carlos. So, whats the tie up here? How do we get a romance?
This was a great story, with a cliffy ending, so make sure you have book two ready to go!
The title for Elena and King’s story is an interesting one because it’s not that they don’t return one another’s feelings of love; it’s just that their situation does not allow them to be together, leaving them longing for each other and dealing with their separation the only way they can, which is not healthy or safe, but they’re willing to risk it because they can’t deny that they want to be together regardless of the obstacles in their way.
I'm a bit torn on how I feel about Unrequited. The characters and their situations are interesting, but there were parts of the story line that dragged for me. I understand King's loyalty to the club, but with the type of person that he's portrayed to be, I don't know how he can't do something to help Elena get away from Carlos because if King doesn’t, he might never be with her again. King is in a no win situation, and I get him biding his time, but things are going to shit quickly for both King and Elena and a war seems inevitable despite the Fallen Aces’ desire to not go up against a ruthless drug lord.
Despite the slow go for me at times, Max Henry definitely created one hell of a villain in Carlos; he's definitely one sadistic fucker who doesn't care who he hurts or what he has to do to get what he wants, and boy does he put Elena through the ringer, and I'm sure there's more suffering for her to face. Carlos will have payback on his mind when he finds out what King's plans are for him and Elena, and no one is safe from Carlos’ wrath because he’s vindictive enough to kill anyone who gets in his way of getting what he wants, and while he may not love Elena nor want to be with her, he will never give up one of his possessions without bringing hell down on whoever tries to take it from him, which is exactly how he sees the situation with King and Elena.
Unrequited is not a tame biker romance, which I love because it’s not an easy life and decisions have to be made that might go against every principal someone has held. Put a drug lord in the mix with an affinity to double cross, lie, and take what he wants regardless of it not being his to take and no telling how dark and deadly the path will be for King and Elena. But one thing’s for sure, with the cliff hanger at the end, things are about to get more chaotic and more dangerous because King is ready to fight for what’s his, and Carlos won’t willingly back down, so one of them won’t like the ending and where that leaves Elena when everything is said and down is anyone’s guess.

3.5/4 Poison Apples (The Fairest of All Book Reviews)
There's a new Jax Teller in town! Well, not Jax, but close enough. In the first book of the Fallen Aces MC series we are introduced to King and the rest of the Aces.
King is a young man prospecting for the motorcycle club. He was brought up on a farm, worked as a carpenter's apprentice, but realized he wanted something different. After a run in with one of the members of the MC, King decided that was the different he was after.
On the way home from a run, King sees the beautiful Elena. It was a love at first sight situation for him and he decides to pursue her. Although he was just passing through town, King decides he wants to know more about Elena and heads back over to see if he can find her.
"I want that, the love eternal with a good woman who'll stand by my side no matter what." ~ King
Although a MC tough guy, King is a huge softie at heart, which I absolutely loved. Too bad he doesn't realize the girl of his dreams has already been promised to someone else. Elena was brought from Cuba to America to care for her sick father. The man that arranged this, did so with a promise that she will one day be his.
"I fell for a man who looked like a silver fox but was the big bad wolf." ~ Elena
And now she's trapped with him, while in love with King. From that sentence alone, you know nothing is going to go right for this doomed couple. Elena thought she met a decent man in her husband to be, however is now threatened with her life everyday. There is no way out for her that doesn't end with a bullet in the back of her head.
Their love is forbidden and Unrequited gives us all the gory details that come with a member of an MC getting involved with a drug lords wife. King has to chose when pressed, a choice he hopes he can live with. He wants Elena and changes in his club, two things that seem impossible at the moment.
"We're two wrongs that'll never make a right." ~ Elena
The blurb hints at what's to come I imagine, as the book is left on a mighty cliffhanger. It's well written and from dual points of view. I see that Max Henry was from New Zealand and now living in Australia, so there were a few words I looked up just to be sure. Can't wait for the next one!
"I'm being torn in different directions at a crossroads, trying to give a little piece of myself to each without falling apart completely. The stress fractures are starting to show."
Is love worth fighting a war over? King is a prospect for the Fallen Aces, having left the monotony of his life on the farm behind after a casual meeting with the MC. Deciding that his future is part of the club he pledges his loyalty and justice to them. King proves himself to be a trustworthy brother, having their back in all things until a woman turns his head.
Elena, tricked into leaving Cuba to come to America to care for her beastly father, is living her version of Hell. Engaged to the local kingpin, Carlos, she feels trapped by her situation. Struggling to survive as she is an illegal immigrant, she can't work or even leave. Faced with her mother's plight at home, her father dying and a ruthless man that offers her salvation if she agrees to become his plaything, Elena is in a dark place. Yet the awkwardly shy man on the back of a bike causes her heart to flutter. Exchanging a few words, stolen glances, leads to something more...
Elena and King start a love affair that will make them question everything, their loyalties to their family, club and each other. Choices have to be made but can they live with the consequences?
Unrequited is the first half of this story and it is a slow burn, a tentative romance between a prospect that is too loyal to his club to forgo the rules for his heart. A woman held hostage by her obligations to her mother and father, who have kept secrets hidden from her. Two star crossed lovers who had they met at another time and place their love would be flourish but instead it is buried deep below their duty. Filled with action, drama and a weaving web of mistrust Unrequited is another masterful tale that I could not put down. A cliffhanger ending that left me breathless I need to know the rest of their journey...King is becoming a force to be reckoned with. That man is downright sinful and his heart is so full of love and loyalty. I need more King!
A five star read.
~*~ Obsessed by Books copy given in exchange for an honest review ~*~
This is my first Max Henry book and will not be last, especially now...
King
"I like my own company-it doesn't complain, confuse me, or expect things I can't deliver."
He is not your typical MC boy; he is shy around the ladies, quietly hangs out in the background, and has manners. He is loyal to his club, he is always thinking and planning, he wants to make something of himself within the confines of his club. By chance he meets this girl and his life is about to get a little more complicated.
Elena
We're two wrongs that'll never make a right.
Stuck in a lose-lose situation. Engaged to the devil and living with her father under false promises. She is just trying to make the right decision, just trying to do what is best for her family. But her best comes with a pretty heavy price tag. And her runaway mouth does not do her any favors. She did not plan on running into King, she did not plan on saying yes to their impromptu meetings but she did and then she had to pay up.
My heart breaks. He's so perfect, and yet he'll never truly be mine.
This book is the start to a new series and as such, we meet a lot of characters. The Fallen Aces are not a bad club, they tend to fall on close to the lawful side of the line, until things get tough and they get mixed up with a drug lord while having a war with another club brewing. This book carried some intensity and tons of heat (very sexy stolen moments in time) but also a story of two people who are so right for each other yet cannot get past all the stuff in the way; death, destruction, blackmail, and twisted deals. Both of the main characters are enjoyable and multidimensional and the story flowed at a nice pace. I am hooked and cannot wait to see what happens next.
There's a hole where my happiness should be, a void created by the future I've cheated myself of.
I love Max Henry and this new series doesn’t fall short! The cover is absolutely beautiful. I love the orange – the cover alone draws you in ready to flip the pages and dig in. Be ready for a cliffy … and it’s a big one …
King and Elena – remember them? YUP this is their story. These two characters were thrown and I mean thrown together like a train running into a wall. You don’t need to read the events that go down in the from the previous series they appeared in so you are good. However I do recommend you head back and pick up The Butcher Boys when you get a chance.
The obstacles these two face are just more than you can even imagine. Im telling you anything that you can thing up .. its worse and more. Eleana was given to the Cartel in order to have a better life. Surrounded by the mayhem of crime rampant throughout her country this was the only way. Needing to care for her fathershe is given the path to go to him before being given to Carlos.
King is prospecting for the Fallen Aces MC. He has worked hard his entire life and nothing felt right until he found his brothers. Seeing Eleana, while passing through after a meeting that turned him into a wounded man, he knows this woman is the only one for him. One meeting leads to the next until the lies unfold and the truth cant be unheard. I wanted to go put a bullet in someone’s head in particular, look at both of them and drop the mic so they could continue on as I wanted them to.
This is where everything start to get “real” for King and Eleana. And again, the cliff hanger is a I cant believe this is happening moment .. you are going to bang on your Kindle for the next pages to turn and all you are going to see is neon yellow …. Unbreakable … its coming and you are going to have to wait … I need the cover as much as I need the story!
Thank you Max for the ARC! I love your stories and cant wait for the conclusion of King and Eleana’s. Review to post to Ramblings From Beneath The Sheets.
I have been in love with King since I first met him in Max's Butcher Boys series. I always knew that there was more to his story and I jumped on board to learn more about him. King came from great parents, worked as a carpenter apprentice but always felt as if something was missing. He has a run in with a member of the Fallen Aces and sees that joining the brotherhood is that something. While out on a run he's injured and stops to get first aid supplies while shopping he sets his eyes on the fiery Elena. Elena believing that she was coming from Cuba to go to college not once believed that she would in up in the situation that she's in. One look is all it takes for them to be hooked, a simple conversation so intense between the pair and sparks fly. There's action, intrigue, danger and passion once you open this book you won't be able to put it down. How good is loyalty if it interfering with your heart? That's the question you're left wondering and I know that I'm addicted to King and can't wait for more.
YES YES YES YES .... I have found a new MC read that is #fridiculously phenomenal!!
Jesus Christ on a cracker, this was seriously gritty and suspenseful and eye-popping stunning. I was glued to my kindle the entire time I read this. I didn't even want to take a break. I wasn't too sure from the blurb whether I would really be on board with King. I mean he didabandon his love and child for the club, so I wasn't too sure that he would be able to win me over. Clearly I was wrong. King is sexy and gritty and intense and this whole entire episode was just raw and incredibly passionate and holy frikk sexy!! This is a story of forbidden love so it's gonna get dirty and it's gonna get dark and it's gonna get nasty ... AND I CANNOT WAIT FOR MORE !!!! Because if what I have just read is a symbol of what is yet to come, then sign me up RIGHT NOW!

this is the first time I read something from this author. there's a cliffhanger. it was an OK read for me. the story is about elena and King.
they met when king was doing a run for his MC when everything went wrong and he got hurt. after that short meeting king went back to that small town 6 hours away from where he's from. wow if that is not dedication i don't know what is.
so they meet every week in the coffee shop. they learned stuff about each other like elena is caring for her sick father, she's from Cuba but she never said anything about her engagement to Carlo's the drug lord that King's MC was doing dirtu runs for
Elena and Carlo's got married, Elena and king got pregnant. King can't fake being away from Elena anymore so he decided to run after her.
I am definitely a Max fan and couldn't wait to read the first book in her new series.
King and Elena have this chemistry and connection that was beyond resisting, but it would bring about bad things for both. Elena finds him just as she is about to marry a despicable man. Problem is that King's MC is working for him. King isn't in a position to change that so he will leave her behind to live the nightmare. I really wanted to give the man a shake or two. My heart broke for Elena as she felt so very alone. I can't wait to read what happens next.
I was sooooo excited to come across this book. Bikers? Check. Unexpected pregnancy? Sure. Hero abandons the heroine, only to realize his mistake? Just the right amount of angst for me. Unfortunately, and thanks to the awesome blurb, I got about 30% more into this book than I actually should have.
I hate to say it but there just wasn't anything that felt right. While I can accept instant lust, the hero seemed to think about love far too early for it to be believable. Secondly, while I thought the heroine's belligerent father came off as cliché, he was nothing compared to the zero-dimensional main villain (calling him "one-dimensional" would be giving him too much credit). Also, the flimsy drama seemed like something written by someone who wanted to write a biker MC romance without bothering to do any of the research.
You get the point.
And finally, the grammar was bizarre. What's "nup"? I assume she meant to write "nope" but just didn't know how to spell it...? Who knows.
I am a HUGE Sons Of Anarchy fame so this book ticked ALL the right boxes for me. I fell head over heels for King, a quiet strong hero. Elena the love of Kings life, is a gutsy, brave sensual woman and suffers through some horrendous ordeals. The scene where Carlos, her evil, maniacal husband hacks up her dead mother's body to retrieve the drugs he smuggled in her corpse had me wanting to put a bullet in his head! The supporting characters are well developed and I would love to hear more of Maria and Sully's romance. This story is full of violence and danger, loaded with gun toting gangster bikers, drugs and death... Max Henry doesn't sugar coat it! This violent world is beautifully balanced by the intimate love affair between King and Elena... My heart pounds with anticipation and I cannot wait to find out what happens next!

Received an ARC in exchange for an honest review... This was my first book by Max Henry but I've clearly been hooked!? LOVED this book! Not your typical love story... with everything from MC bikers to Cuban drug lords and murder. A dark read, with a few scenes that were tough to read.. abuse, pain, loss... so much packed into this story. There is also a beautiful love story in there... King comes from a good place, educated and with a loving hard-working family. He and Elena clearly have an intense connection and he wants nothing more than to save her without destroying his place in his MC. Watching the two of them struggle through was torture and that cliffhanger ending!? Oh, I will SURELY be back for the rest of this story - can't wait!! Highly recommended!!
I have become a massive MC/mafia junkie, and I've just been devouring everything I can get my hands on and love it. So I should've been obsessed with this book! The synopsis of this book sounded so good! It sounded like we would have some insane action scenes between this man fighting for his woman, and I could not wait for it! But, instead, it just dragged on. It feels like we had so much build-up for this story. Still, when they could finally be together, it was like it was never even that big of a deal, even though her husband tortured her for years before she managed to get away. Honestly, my thoughts might be blurring with the second book here because I did read the second book as well, and I honestly can't remember what happened in which.
Fallen Ace’s is a club with some underlining issues, so when King finds the woman who he knows is the one; life just got a whole lot more complicated. Elena just wants to make a better life for herself and her Mama, but what she thought was a new beginning has her wondering why she left home. This is one hell of ride, but I wouldn’t expect anything less from Max.
They say if you love something let it go, and if it’s yours, it will come back. but what if that which you love Tries to come back, yet it can’t Because it’s trapped? What are you supposed to do then? You fight for it, that’s what. *King*
This book took me awhile to read. I read another book in the middle of this one because this one was one I could put down. There were so many pages of fluff, thoughts in the mind, descriptions, etc, I skipped a lot of pages just to find conversations and action. The story was good when you actually read about the characters. I will probably read the next book in the series but if it is anything like this one, it will be my last. The sex scenes were a little drawn out and boring so I even felt myself skimming those pages. The pages that I found that actually had "story" about the characters were good, there just wasn't enough of them.
